Great review of the Katana. I really like how you had all the other Rome bindings to compare to. Thanks for the great insight on the Katana.
Many Thanks! We had a time on that binding.
@@thegoodridesnow did you cant the Katana at all? When do you need to cant the high back? Is it when you have a wide stance width? I'm at 21 to 21.5 inch stance width.
Not much. Just a little. I was really playing mostly with the adjustable angles of the ankle strap. I would just step in and match it to your stance/leg angle to start. For me that felt great. If that doesnt work for you play around with it till it feels good. You can do it with any stance width.
Great review! Been looking at these to pair with my 2022 K2 Instrument and new Vans Infuse boots. Thanks!
Many thanks and hope you like them like I did.
yo man, how did your board, boots, bindings work together? I have just bought that exact setup for next year. what size of everything you using?
Hey, thanks for really good content!
What would you go for a Rome Stalefish (2023) Katanas or Burton Genesis?
Cheers Jake
Thanks for the good words. I would go Katanas. They have more shock absorption, much more adjustability and even adjustable response/support.
Great video! How would compare them with the malavita and would they be a great pairing with the mercury board?
Thanks. Very different bindings. The Katana is more damp, has similar shock absorption, a softer high back and more response. Especially when you adjust the ankle strap up higher on the ankle. Yeah they would be better for the Mercury as it likes a more responsive binding. The Malavita is more a mountain freestyle to park binding that is excellent for buttering and easier to turn more playful twins.
Great content! If I buy these in L/XL size, do you think I will have a problem with the binding scratching the side of my boot. I have size 13 boots (US MEN) or 47 (EU). Or can the bindings be adjusted so widely that I will not have a problem?
Thank you
Thanks! It depends on the boot. What make, model and year boot do you have.
Hey I own the bataleon Atom and I really like the pivot mount of the rome bindings. Since they share the same chassis is it possible to attach the pivot to the bataleon binding? That would be awesome:)
I think so but never tested Bataleon so not 100% sure. I would hit up Rome as they might know.
Awesome reviews man, looking for something to pair with my Burton Custom Flying V, is the 2023 Katana worth the upcharge vs the Vice or even DOD or 390 Boss if I spend less time in the park? Dealing with east coast conditions so how damp they are comes into play.
Many thanks! I think both the Vice and Katana's are great bindings. I like the Katana better but it is hard to beat the Vice for the price. With the CFV you could go DOD or 390 too but I think the Vice and Katana would be the better call with the adjustable ankle strap angles.
@@thegoodridesnow awesome, does the asymwrap feel much different when riding, or just when looking for that lateral flex
Doesn't feel that much different. you just feel a little when leaning into the asym side.
Great review as ever dude 🙂🙂
I’ve not had lots of experience with kit. My only pair of bindings are some 2019 burton Cartels. How would these compare? Worth the upgrade?
Thanks! These are great bindings and a bump up in terms of dampness, response and adjustability. Cartels are great bindings too so if you are happy with what you have then maybe just keep them. Hit me up here if you want to get more in depth and know if it's worth while. thegoodride.com/snowboard-binding-and-boot-advice/
@@thegoodridesnow thank you so much for the reply! I’ve taken full advantage of your very kind service and dropped you an email!
Thx bro. What do think about this on my rome stale mod. Are they matching?
I think it could for sure work. Its a very adaptable binding. Maybe move down the ankle strap angle so you have a little less response and more freedom of movement. Or just play around with it till you find what you like. Cheers!
are you going to do a review of Bataleons bindings and compare them to the rome line up
No. Sorry. Will try to do that for next season.
Do you like the katana or atlas for a 159 orca? Directional riding only.
Both are excellent bindings for the Orca and have a lot of overlap with that responsive base plate and mellower high back. If you want more response with the adjustable ankle strap angles and shock absorption go Katana. If you want a little better reliability and better stance width adjustability go Atlas.
Falcor vs Strata vs Katana for 2023 Lib Travis Rice Pro?
Falcor would be the best fit since that is what Travis Rides and it turns the board the best. Katana's could do a great job as well. So could the Strata but like the other two better.
got a pair of black-labels for 350 bucks. from the ride they should be simmilar right?
They are pretty similar. I think you just have a little more stiff/dynamic flexing highback. It's a great deal if you got a 2022 or later model.
Do you prefer these over the atlas? I bought some black label 22 today to try with a 23 super Doa.
I like the Atlas for reliability, full size discs adjustability and the straps better. I like the super cush shock absorbent EVA Foam footbed on the Rome's and the adjustable ankle strap angle to make the binding more or less responsive depending on the board you are riding. I could have a beautiful life with either binding. Both are favorites on the site and I often recommend both when people email for advice.
@@thegoodridesnow I own atlas too and have been my go to over the last few seasons, just picked up a pair of 22 black label large which seem to fit my 11 slx boot very well.
I found the medium atlas fit well but had a lil more toe than heel.(probably nit picking as it’s only like a 5mm difference)The large had my boot swimming in it.
Thanks for your take.
How would you compare it to the flux XF?
The XF is one responsive binding. That probably wins with response. Straps are exceptional with the XF as well. Shock absorption is almost non existent with the XF and it is hard on your joints. The Katana doesn't have straps on the same level. The response can be adjusted to get close to the XF but it has more adjustability and it has exceptional dampness and shock absorption. So they are massively different bindings.
@@thegoodridesnow thanks! I've had a chance to ride XFs and I agree that everything about them is great except for no absorption, it's almost as you could perfectly tell the structure of surface you ride them on. Add a stiff deck to it and boots with lack of cushion and you have a setup you have enough after 2hrs.
No prob! Yeah I've begged Flux for 10+ years to add some shock absorption but they just aren't into it.
