another tip for falling: If you use your hands or you think you have to use them, make a fist. While your hand is in a fist, your wrist is way more stabile
This has pros and cons - you shouldn't land on the knuckles of the fist (imagine punching the snow) and you have to remember to do it! I think you should just wear wristguards (like Ed recommends at 14:15) and try to land on those (wristguards are pretty useful). (edit: Or tuck in completely to make a ball, like Ed recommends himself).
I finally got off a lift successfully for the first time yesterday because these 2 guys just told me to act like I was strapped in instead of thinking about it too much and that really helped me
I've been skateboarding for 16 years now but tomorrow I'm going snowboarding for the first time. Stoked to get out there and this vid's a good heads up for what to expect
Lol, I'm a retired Marine, will be 53 in March and I'm hitting Park City, UT this weekend to snow board for the first time. I've been athletic all my life, so I can't wait....
I’m 67, and in my second year of boarding. It’s a ton of fun. I use wrist guards and padded pants and a small pillow, still. I’m starting to do more black diamond runs, and having fun. Go for it!!!
I faceplanted like 10 times yesterday my first time ever snowboarding. I probably wasn’t even going fast but it feels like I’m going really fast and when I try to slow down I either do a full 180 or just fall on my face. Ty for the vid.
Great job. As a duck footed guy I have had a hard time skiing and inline skating. Skiboarding always gave me the freedom to stand any way I want. Mastering Traversing is a friend as a beginner.
Took group lessons at the ski resort but this video was much more helpful and instructor is much more patient than the person I had. And yes, my wrists hurt so I def wish I watched this video first. TY!
DUDE THANK YOU!!! I literally grabbed a snowboard for the first time and watched your video, even tho I ate snow a couple times this video helped me a lot! Never touching skis again 😂
I learned the hard way in my early 20's, my "buddy" said he show me, so he took off and rode for the day with his buddies. I didn't care at the time I was determined to learn and I painfully figured it almost (I nailed it the 2nd time riding). For anyone in this predicament, I'd recommend wearing some type of padded shorts with specifically a tailbone pad, and knee pads, elbow pads. Compare that to the cost of lessons, lessons may be worth it because once you learn, you don't need all that padding.
I started last year on age of 40 , and i learn with instructor , but depending on the person because i m that guy who learns very quickly. It’s a beautiful sport😊
Thanks for this video! Haven’t boarded since pre-kids and heading back to the slopes next week. This has been super helpful refresher on what to so…I don’t want to be chairlift roadkill 💀
It worked as advertised, and the boot supports are safe and don't lock a child in too firmly, but gives more balance. The plastic of the board makes it a bit slow, which is fine for a beginner board. Others noted it broke quickly, but seems to be sturdy so far.
13:24 I think those are US symbols, if you’re skiing/snowboarding in Europe the runs are color-coded from easiest to hardest as follows: white (bunny slope), green, blue (beginner), red (intermediate), black (advanced/expert), along with orange in some countries (equivalent of 3x black diamond in the US)
Im 9 and all my friends do hockey and snowboarding and skiing and I feel left behind so I decided TODAY like 30 seconds ago that ima be the best snowboarding guy ever! (And I don’t have a snowboard so I’m taping my boots to a sled😂)
Bombed a hill my second day of snowboarding and I applied too much "gas pedal" and my toe edge caught in the snow and I scorpioned hard and bruised some ribs. Wish I saw this video before starting lmfao I'll be out there to try again hopefully in a few weeks.
When I first started getting off the lift, I learned to stand up straight (not locking knees) and look forward and I stopped falling off the lift. I taught my daughter the same thing recently during her first days learning, and she stopped falling off the lift as well. #prouddadmoment
Wrist guards, neoprene knee pads, butt pads, helmet. They dont restrict movement and they make sense. At a minimum a helmet and butt pads are the easiest protective gear to wear.
when i do the push test i usually catch with my arms... does that mean i ride with my arms? no but seriously this is really helpful coming from a skiier!
So i understand how to slow down with the edges when you are facing sideways to the hill but when you are parallel how do you slow down? Lift the front up? Or do you need to turn sideways and use the edges
Correct, when going straight down the mountain, to slow down you basically have to turn, which will be switching back and forth between toe side and heel side turns.
My uncle lives in the snow, so my little cousins go snowboarding, right but they know what gear to put on. I don’t. So my uncle is actually going to get me the stuff in my mom is gonna pay for all of it. Isn’t that so good?
I thought that I was hot stuff, and I started way too fast I didn’t watch his video before so I sadly broke my wrist when it heals up I’m going to try again
0:30 Nope, I’m too ugly and short for women to be attracted to me. I’m trying to learn snowboarding to keep my mind away from the fact that I will never get a girlfriend.
@@ShredSchool1 Haha yeah I figured 😂 I'm going snowboarding for my first time ever in a few days and I am overly confident that I will be a great rider straight from the get go for some reason. But the more videos I watch the smaller that confidence shrinks. Wish me luck 🤞🏽
@@ShredSchool1Decent but worse than I thought. I am on day 2 right now and did my first blue without falling so I'm pretty confident I can learn a lot more in the next 4 days :)

I was hoping to learn something, but this is absolutely impossible to watch with the annoying loud looping soundtrack and audio not correctly synced with the video. Needs a re-edit and re-upload.
I used to be good at snowboarding but then I got PTSD and now I suck because I get too scared. Even though I already know how to do this stuff and more, I might just start over and relearn everything.

@@ShredSchool1 hey do you know where I can find a 2015/16 Salomon spark snowboard?? Been really set on that one in particular, love the design 💓

Changed my stance to Goofy this season and revisiting this video helped refresh some basics. Thanks, Ed!
Awesome!
wish i did this yersterday before me and my buddies who are completely new to snowboarding went on the advance corse. it was a crazy time lmao
Still impressed how this guy went from selling a marketing agency course to selling a snowboarding course. Talk about time freedom 😂

very informative. thank you
First tip to snowboarding is don't fall for fashion or trends and force yourself to fit in 👌👍

Solid stuff as usual 👌🏻

i’m at camelback there’s so much ice
Are leashes still mandatory while snowboarding?
How much does knowing how to skateboard help as the foot positioning is different and i have never skied or snowboarded
It helps a lot

"The most common injury is wrist fracture in young females". Can confirm, first day going down a longer green slope. Ready to try again though!
thanks ed', toe side heal side', heal is the brakes', cool', like surfing', the heal on the tail side stops you', so easy ' geting me stoked up' peace

perfect 👌

0:30 Nope, I’m too ugly and short for women to be attracted to me.

Yes it is. 36 and 38 are perfectly acceptable but starting at 37 is just weird.
How small of a board do you recommend someone could start off with if you're around 125lbs?
Something I’ve heard and go by is the board should be around as tall as your chin to your nose
@@erikmiller9356 I’ve heard that too. But i think the new thing is to go by weight. The board only “sees” your weight, not your height.
