everybody in the frame in front of him too, not just her. there's a few other boards you can see during that bit, and every one of them is doing it. I admit, I do it too once i get to a certain part of the line. it's easier to maneuver around sometimes, and I prefer it for when i actually sit onto the lift. but for covering larger distances, definitely skate/push from the heel side.
Love that, at 1:10, as you're explaining how skating by pushing from the toe edge of the board is a common mistake, the girl right in front of you is doing just that xD
@@alejandromut Unless you're riding with a really big angle on your front foot, pushing from the toe edge puts way more strain on your knee and hips, because you have to rotate your body considerably more to be able to push.
Good practical tips - especially standing up to put your board on. You always see beginners struggle with these simple things that experienced boarders take for granted, but I'm afraid to say anything because I don't want to feel like I'm being "that guy".
I love the microphone work on this video! It's so cool to see you effortlessly ride and explain at the same time. Somehow after all this time of snowboarding I forgot you can just scrape the snow out of the bindings with the ratchet, so that was my favorite tip. Also, sweet goggles!
I've been riding 125/year since the mid 80's, skiing way before that. This year I taught ski/ride for a ski school(1st time) and watched vids for affirmations and ways to explain points to raw beginners etc. Yours worked best for me. I make commercial rafting vids in the summer, I know the time and energy it takes so I tell all my students to "look up Tommy Bennett tonight" as a payback and my next goggles will be yours. Thanks.
Such an awesome video. The tiny tips are soo important and can be the difference between loving the sport or stopping at the early stages. Great resource especially for self taught people
The thing with shoulders is definitely true. When I learned to snowboard, my instructor taught me to point were I want to go as a start and it actually helped to lead my body in that direction
The facing uphill to strap in tip is dope! It's so simple makes so much sense I can't believe I never thought of it. I've been going back and forth this season with Step On's and Supermatic's and facing downhill even while dug in, I still struggle to balance with these types of bindings. I can't wait to try the uphill tip with them tomorrow!
Doesn’t work as well with step ons in my opinion, because you need that extra heel click, and facing down the hill allows you to get that extra pressure to pop in. Just my experience.
@@romaniasvic213 Night and day difference! I’ve done three trips and over 30 runs and this tip is the best. No more trying to balance myself with my arms waving everywhere looking like a newborn baby deer. I get off the lift, skate past everyone, stop on my toe side and face uphill, drop into my Supermatics, and I’m off. All takes less than 5 seconds
Thanks Tommie! I'm very nervous about snowboarding for the first time this weekend and your videos are educational as well as more chill so it helps ease my anxiety a little.
@@AssMcBlast Yeah I fell a lot too. I'm still uncomfortable on my heel side but I am able to stay on it enough to link a few turns in! I'm super sore haha
Riding with chest shoulders aligned and using those to guide direction of path are game changers, Also keeping most of the weight on the front foot. It’s going to be harder to turn with weight toward the back foot. That’s something I’m working on. Thanks Tommy you’re awesome and thanks for all your content, you’re really helping all us to become better riders.
I plan on going snowboarding in CO for the first time at the end of February. I found this video to be very informative and now I feel more confident about snowboarding thanks to Tommy's tips and tricks.
Wow this is the earliest I’ve ever commented on Tommie’s videos. I’ve been boarding for 2 years now and it’s always great learning some new from your videos. I also regularly go to Copper so it’s cool to recognize all the locations you film at there
Your tip about strapping on standing is OUTSTANDING (pun intended).. at the end of a full day of boarding, what sapped my energy the most was sitting down strapping my boots into the harness and then getting back up.. Because everytime I fell, I always just try to fall on my back.. so that push back up... the more times I did it during the day, the harder it became.. If I can get off the lift and then strap up standing up, then that one less push up!! Your tip made perfect sense. I am gonna try it next time I go! Thanks heaps.
Great video Tommie. Liked the chair lift tips! We are going off to France for a few late season days soon and since Covid we have only been boarding at the indoor slope and using the button lift. It’s easy to forget things after 3 years, so thanks for the timely reminders. Lots of great info in there and love your coaching style - you have a great gift there and we are lucky you share your knowledge with us. Great stuff! Top job Tommie!👍
Thank you for this awesome video! I think I picked up at least 3 new tips on getting off the lift and strapping in while standing in spite of watching many videos on the subject.
Thanks for these vids Tommie, they've helped me out so much. Just finished a week in Val Thorens and have improved beyond recognition! Still a way to go, but I'm getting more confident and got into a good rhythm with the turns, remembering to squash the bug on the steeper bits. Brought my daughter along too and she loves it, so I'm a very proud dad too! Keep up the good work 👍
I went snowboarding for the first time in April. These tips would’ve been so helpful had I known. Also, as an islander, I quickly realized that just bcuz I surf, doesn’t mean I can snowboard lmao. It’s so different 😂 I fell 100x before I got the hang of it ”carving”
I saw on another video, forgot who. But they said it is best to rest it on the back of your bindings, so your snowboard edge doesn’t cut your laces or boot.
Tip 3 would have saved me. I caught my toe side edge getting onto the lift once. My foot was dragging me under the lift and it took the operator entirely too long to notice. I was about a full second or two from either seriously damaging my leg or falling under the lift

I may forget my birthday and me and my wife's anniversary date, but this tip is staying with me. The other big problem I have is with speed. What can I do to start slower than I do now? 😂I’m 47 rode as a teenager/early 20s but gave up while I was raising my kid, started riding again 5 years ago. The gear is so much better but very different, 1st time I rode after all those years. I fell 5 times skating to the lift then got my board caught getting on. I got sucked underneath it, actually hit me so hard my helmet cracked. I’m pretty sure that’s the most terrified and embarrassed my baby brother has ever been. I was so embarrassed but nobody laughed and when I went to buy a new helmet the shop gave me a free 1/2 hour refresher lesson for free it ended up not so bad. I can laugh about it now and I just did, thanks.
Tips for beginners....what about NOT leaving the safety bar up on the lifts ? This seems to be a very weird American thing that no one from Europe can understand.
The fact that that lady was skating with her foot in front of her board as Tommie talks about how bad that is is hilarious 😂

As goofy I like to be at the most right on the chair lift.

Tips for beginners....what about NOT leaving the safety bar up on the lifts ?
This seems to be a very weird American thing that no one from Europe can understand.
