CHALLENGE RULES:
1. Once blue characters are available, only blue characters may act. All other characters must use the defend command.
2. If blue characters are not available, all other characters may only use weak attacks OR use blue elements. The only exception is Sprigg, who may use the transform command to become a blue monster if no blue characters are available.
3. If Sprigg is available and no other blue characters are available, Sprigg may kill enemies to acquire them. She must run from the battle at its conclusion to avoid gaining additional stats.
4. Non-blue characters may not change out of their starting equipment with the exception of Sprigg, and only if no blue characters are available.
5. The grand slam must be completed with only blue monsters.
Side challenge: Use as few non-blue elements as possible.

1: Fun Fact - Not sure if it is helpful for the types of challenges, but the reason we don't pick up any other characters in the speedrun till denying kid after Karsh, Solt, and Peppor is because when only Serge is in the party, all enemies have half hp. So for example, Mama Komodo is listed at 150 on the wiki, but 76 in our notes!
2: I think it was mentioned in another comment, but you can actually use things like cureplus offensively on bosses/enemies (undead) like Deadhead!
3: Another Fun Fact - you can technically skip getting the ice gun before mt. Pyre and just walk through the lava and heal before the bosses. If you do this, the game actually adds a dragoon fight at the entrance of the Fort that not only Is a star fight to make up for the one missed, but also drops you FrogPrince to make sure you still have it!

A channel I didn't know that does challenge runs of old JRPGs? Hell yeah algorithm, now we're talking.
Single color Chrono Cross is definitely not something I'd have thought of, and it was interesting to see.
That extended Karen joke in the middle of the vid is the most attention Irenes will ever get from people who played this game.
My thoughts before watching: on paper, this seems a lot easier than the yellow only challenge. Leena is one of the very best characters in the entire game based upon her availability, and you get FrogPrince really early to allow her (and other blues) to utilize big damage if you can get a blue field. You get Cure, CurePlus, and the extremely broken CureAll later in the game. The only real rough patch seems the Garai + Miguel arc, since you are probably using Lagoonate (which is decent) and Irenes (who is actually pretty good), and maybe a solo fight with Lagoonate vs Radius. Once you get Marcy and Fargo (and Vigora), it seems like the game breaks wide open.
These are actually my favorite type of comments. I love seeing people’s predictions.
NO IMHO on a first run Leena is pure CRAP due to a LACK of Gold TO fill out her elemental grind since her physical hit damage SUCKS Irenes is pure CRAP for the same reason her physical hit damage is crap and is the only blue user as Lynx UNTIL Fargo/Marcy join.
@@tantacles Just finished my watch, I have never seen Leena get so stat screwed, I would have benched her as well! Everything else seemed to go as expected, but I completely forgot about how much of a pain Highwayman can be. Great job taking Garai out with a solo Irenes though, I did not think that would be possible.
Highwayman is only a pain because if its WORST attack doesn't HIT a Black Innate user it can kill Irene's with it instantly but even She is pure crap since her physical hit damage is worthless.
@@veghesther3204 Using Turn Blue on Highwayman (and Garai/Miguel) is actually a really good way to survive big hits, since it negates the damage bonus that they get from using same color techs and makes their physical attacks blue. Tanta's Irenes actually ended up with decent strength, but yeah, she usually is pretty weak.

@@chaosamber7719 Well good news, he said towards the end that he's doing runs for each colour, so just keep an eye out for him to start streaming that run to have a rough idea when it's gonna be.

I love all the chrono cross videos so much. One of my favorite games. And the challenge runs bring out so many things I never thought of or knew!!
I think it would be fun to do the statistically worst characters in the game as a run. Or maybe even a run where you have a set roster and if a person dies you can't use them, like a nuzlocke kind of? that might be too easy lol.

VERY excited to see how the remaining color runs go. Selfishly, I am hoping that at least one of Pip's color forms will be worth using in one of these (maybe the white run?), just because that's one of my favorite hidden mechanics in the game.
Red is next and you will probably get your wish.
Pip is still crap while Red can still self heal Tablets are so PURE CRAP I won't attempt the PS4 remaster using Red users WITHOUT the in game cheats using so that NO attack the enemies do will EVER do any damage in fact the only moves that can hit you WITH that God mode cheat are are no damage attacks like Nimble etc.
That and pretty much the only red user PRE Fort Dragonia that you have that isn't pure CRAP is sadly KID only POST fort dragonia all the Red users suck and they aren't really ANY Red users BEFORE Orcha joins the party as Lynx and even he's PURE CRAP.
Does the fail counter max out if you buy a boat? Can you accidently buy a boat? Is it a fail if you're gifted a boat?

Interesting to see Miguel be difficult enough you have to resort to Doppelganger with Sprigg. Might have to try it out in the future to see if its possible with just Karen.
Only correction I'd make in terms of the script is the Moonglasses from Harle. It's possible to get as a drop, but its super rare. I don't blame you for not farming for it since you were streaming this though.
Can't wait for the rest of the challenges.
Sprigg is still pure CRAP though the drop rate isn't worth it and ONLY Kid/Mel can steal it I still stole ALL 6 armors off of the Dragon bosses never fight the FIRST Cronopolis BOSS without the White Plate equipped normally only Serge and the Black Plate against FATE also equipped on Serge only.

And yet not once did I find who asked.
Even at star lv 99 Sprigg is still pure CRAP.

The mermaid lady in termina trades crafting materials toy could have traded a few tablets to get what you need for the iron equipment before viper manor which may help alot in other color runs

Simple idea(?): rank these in difficulty at the end as you do them. Like a tier list (maybe that's getting old) but it would be really nice/cool to see how each run stacks up against each other. Some of us AREN'T here for the suffering, sometimes we're here for the science of it all!

Now, the element I'm most excited to see is Red because good Red characters are quite sparse and the late-game Tablet spam would be fun to watch, lol.
Green bring an interesting challenge early on since you don't actually get a Green character early on at all. If I remember correctly, the earliest one would be Glenn.
Black would be fun to see until you get Nostrum, but it seems like it can have a really challenging boss fight, but shouldn't be too challenging since you have plenty of Black character to use. throughout the game.
White would be like a Serge-only run at first until you get Doc and then it get interesting after you turn Lynx.
Tablets are pretty much USELESS in boss fights as soon as you have Kid first join the party but PRE Fort Dragonia Kid is the only Red user that isn't pure crap and really Orcha is really the ONLY red user you'll like have POST Fort Dragonia with Lynx in the party and even he SUCKS.
Nostroms are NOT really buyable until AFTER Fargo first joins the party.
Yes Glenn is the first Green Innate user and Pre Fort Dragonia Pretty much Kid and the useless Greco are your ONLY red users.
I never finished this game. I should pick it up again.
I was able to beat chrono cross with serge/lynx only.
There were three challenges that were difficult with this.
1. Instant deaths from ice like attacks. They were usually consistent in freezing you. Getting around usually just adjust party members positions in group
2. Dark serge and 3. Fate we’re just hard!
I’m currently doing a run with a non-serge/lynx character as the only fighter/healer. Minus the start. I used Kid first. Then when she got sick (interesting part is the equipment will stay with kid when she is sick). Then solo Glenn (equipment drops once lynx is you).
Currently now I and debating to attempt sprigg or harle.
The choices this game gives you! I remember being so lost my first playthrough trying to get into Viper Manor, ended up going Nikki route because it's the only one I could figure out how to do 😂 the game seems like it reaaally wants you to recruit Kid so how could I not? Also, how could I not save her?
Garai is always so tough! I would use Karen there.
Can't wait til the only Black units. ❤ I don't remember if there are any White units but if so, that will be interesting as well.

Besides that's IMPOSSIBLE until you have access to the BURNING HOUSE scenario where Red Brooches are the ONLY ones that null the Confusion effect that 1 of the Gaia's Navel enemies cause.
So you pretty much need Black Hole to off those confusion enemies instantly especially when Dario IS already killed and you fight like 3 to 4 of those at once though on a blue run you can steal Earth brooches/Yellow Charms off of those.

Did you ever explained what happened to Clownfish's elements at 23::00? I've watched the run a few times already but can't find it
So sorry! I think I touched on it but didn't explicitly explain. I'm pretty sure lumpy sea blob's attack where it tosses goo at you causes the antiblue or seal all status. Those are the only two statuses that would disable all blue elements.
Oh yeah you do mention Seal All in the green dragon battle, I didn't realized it was related to the "goo moment" hehe

Orlha is my favorite blue, was a little sad not to see her.
Fun fact - if memory serves me correctly you can in fact use blue healing elements to hurt undead enemies like DeadHead, they're the only ones that can actually target enemies(Green and White can only target allies).
I've also read that using attack elements on Miguel causes his AI to get far more aggressive and break his pattern, though I've never actually tested it myself.
You can but I didn't bother to buy/get Cure PLUSES to even have Leena/Nikki use on it.
I'm not sure, but Red 13 is immortal if you do him right. He's also very huggable.

When you are only with Karen (Irenes), it wouldn't be a nice ideia to spawn some Nimble in order to avoid some physical attacks? I know this is not sure, but it would be a RNG strategy whatsoever :)
I would say blue should be able to use the plates as a unique perk of the element, it would be like saying white cant use revive because its the only color with access to that effect.

Well I won't fight the "DISC 2 bosses" without it ie the first Cronopolis boss BOTH of its White innate moves even AT star lv 99 could still KILL you instantly with it 500+ damage to even Serge on a 1st run and his max HP is LESS then that so I still equipped the White plate then to Serge and the BLACK Plate to hit against the Fate boss.
Idea for a challenge can u beat super mario rpg without using special moves or the triple moves
Plus the secret boss and rematches

All the BLUE innate Medicine does is remove Frozen/Turn blue status so its worthless it doesn't even RESTORE HP AT all.a

Glenn is really the ONLY one worth using Razzly the only OTHER PRE Fort dragonia green user is pure crap and POST fort Dragonia Radius/Karsh as green users IMHO are still both crap.

Not really since theirs no way to do SOLO runs unless the others start the battles DEAD but in this one any DEAD party members may automatically start the next fights with 1 HP left.

Easily but while Leena and Nikki are the first ones Leena on a 1st run is still IMHO Pure crap Pierre sucks even at star lv 99 and Irenes' before Fargo joins is your only blue innate user and even she's pure CRAP.
Cure all's BEFORE Miguel are a MUST and its nearly impossible to use ANY against him and I ONLY had the ANOTHER World El Nido Triangle Side Steppas DROP them but that's POST Miguel only.
Why didn't you use Turn Blue on party members to allow them to be usable for those times you didn't have an innately Blue party member to work with, such as Starfish? 🤔
By just nerfing them with only weak attacks and blue elements, I’m proving the same point - a blue character could beat the challenge.
Mad props to Irenes in this run, finally channeling the obnoxious perseverance of Karens in a positive way. 🫡
