If you don't want to do the star, glitch. Farm the skullbones near the shop in the sunken ship. You can easily get to lvl 30 in a couple hours killing this large group of respawning enemies. The exp plus accessory you can buy with frog coins can ease this process. Or speed shoes if you're tired of mallow not going first.
If the game is designed with intent that when you game over you keep any exp when you go back to your last save, and that it doesn't consider the starman used because you didn't progress beyond that room to the next flag to disable it, that star "glitch" would be an exploit and not an actual glitch (you don't create an entirely new mechanic, you simply abuse existing mechanics to create an outcome not intended by the developers). If you used the starman to get out of bounds and voided out so that the star reloaded, kept your EXP and reloaded the room's enemies, THEN we could consder it a glitch, because you used the item to create a new mechanic (in this theoretical example going out of bounds in order to void out and then reload the room with enemies and the items refreshed).
A great example of this is Hessing in Ocarina of time versus damage boosting to clear a gap. Hessing (Hyper Extended superslide) uses the bomb recoil with a certain position on the controller and blocking the hit with the shield at the exact right frame and abusing the uncapped speed you get from going backwards to create a new mechanic that accelerates link to a ridiculous degree as long as you hold that position on the controller. Damage boosting over a Gap however is using intended mechanics without creating a new one (taking damage from bombs will always push link back, hence damage boosting, and doing it near the edge of certain gaps makes him jump slightly longer than intended, but didn't create a new movement mechanic since you would still jump like you would if you held the control stick in the direction over the edge provided link had enough speed beforehand)
I call the starman exp thing an exploit, not a glitch.
I think in the remake instead of bosses having infinite FP, give them an FP-boosting item or two that they use when out of FP (which increase max and fully refill FP). Which would discourage stalling not only by making it more tedious, but by also rewarding the player with any items left unused at the end of the battle.
I like what i have seen of the remake. i hope the keep in the mimicry that Mario does, i loved it in this game. What will we see hidden in the princess bedroom 😊

Punchinello is a Bomb. He's got a fuse on his head, and he fights with bob-ombs, like how Mack fights with knife pogostick shyguys.

This just gave me a thought...he doesn't say he's part of Smithy's Gang, but what if Punchinello was? What if the Gang was the "They" he was referring to in "They call me a hothead, I'll show them[..]?" He's got the arsenal to fit in with the Gang. There wouldn't be a Machine Made of him if he was ostracized...It's all coming together...
Until I find out he likely has the wish on Star Hill to become famous, though that could be anyone, really. Nah, keeping that headcanon. Punchinello was ostracized from Smithy's Gang, and no one talks about it, directly, at least.
Great job on this. Was fun. Mallow had more game overs than Mario but for a good number of those I wonder if one could even count them against him?

Without either level grinding or cheesing the Troopa Pin + two Rock Candies tactic, Mallow's best accessory comes down to either the Rare Scarf or the Safety Ring. In addition to using Petal Blast once a teammate is defeated, Axem Pink also counters Special Attacks with Sleep, so hit her with the Sticky Gloves if she is your first target. Avoid using Special Attacks on Axem Black (who counters Special Attacks with the very powerful Spritz Bomb) before weakening him first, using Shocker as a kill shot.

Therefore, you could theoretically fight him and not have to use any items. Otherwise, Shocker works against the other two summons, including Jinx Clone. (The real Jinx is impervious to electricity.)

29:10 Since Mallow has too weak a physical attack to use the Jinx Belt (which is rather hard for him to obtain even at Level 20 with endgame equipment), sticking to the Safety Ring is your only option to block Tank Head's Magnum. Ignore the Shypers to allow them to exhaust their limited FP and just bash Smithy.
If you wish to challenge Culex, then bring plenty of Yoshi-Ade and Royal Syrup (use Yoshi Cookies on Stumpet or Forkies) and use Star Rain on the whole group. Shocker also exploits Earth Crystal's weakness to electricity.

I think the Star glitch is just that, but I don't mind it at all in this case. Grinding would not make interesting content, and I feel that you preserve the spirit of the run.
...how do you think it's a glitch????? All of the game's mechanics are working exactly as intended, nothing abnormal is happening, there is literally no reason to think it's a glitch.

@jamiesnow8190 I think it's entirely possible that they did, and even if they didn't that would just make this an exploit, not a glitch.
@@philiphunt-bull5817 I feel it is safe to assume that if the stars were intended to be used multiple times, they wouldn't make you do something convoluted and secret to use them. You would be able to use the stars repeatedly, without having to die and load again.
I'll give you that it's more of an exploit. Though I will posit that the mismatched save states between the overworld having an unused invincibility star and the saved xp gain makes it an argument in semantics.
@@jamiesnow8190 well the exp thing was an intended feature, just not the stars, thery wanted to make it so where you can retry everything with all your items but having gained the exp if you die to say the buff ants in that one area for example, now this indirectly applied to stars but i dont think they fully non intended it and more so didn't think anyone would do it

For Geno, you start at the Bowyer fight. Geno won’t be able to withstand 2 lightning attacks without a defense boosting item. So use 1 of those right at the start. That way he can use healing items once the item button is unlocked again. Have Mario and Mallow get KOed before facing Bowyer so they start with 1HP.
Bowser is as early as Booster Tower. Again, defense boosting items will help.
And for Peach, it’s after Marrymore.
I think you'll be excited to see how that all went down. Edited video should be out Tuesday or Wednesday (I hope)!

14:50 , absolutely a glitch, an oversight from the devs.
Personally don't love it, but it'd be cool if you only used it when stuck versus a difficult boss.
I dunno, the fact that 1/2 the stars in the game also have a Save right next to them suggests it was intentional to some degree.
At the same time, perhaps it always was a bug, but they found it during testing and left it in since it was helpful.
Though I think the remake will be an interesting point, if they decide to "keep in it" or not.
I don't really think it's a glitch where the items are reset after dying, just an oversight by the developers, so I don't really think it was a bad thing to exploit an oversight.
This also isn't game breaking. Like it's not glitching you out to never receive damage or like hit damage cap every hit. This is just a time save. You could gring the beginning area where you get mallows frog coing back to max if you wanted. Boring content and grind but possible.
You simply break the grind of time with this. Totally fair
Booster Hill tip: You can go back to Booster Hill as soon as you arrive in Marrymore. Toad will try to talk you out of it. He'll say there's almost nothing but barrels. But almost nothing is something. And that something is the flowers you missed. You can keep doing it and Toad will let you know when the flowers are all gone.

I personally don’t object to the starman exp grinding. After all, the only thing it changes is that you don’t need to spend as much time on an easy but time consuming task. The challenge is just as possible, but you don’t have to go through as much tedium

I don't think it's a glitch, and even if it is, frankly you could have easily ground out those levels the normal way. This method just saves you some time on an already long run.

I know I am late to the party, but the star leveling is not a glitch. It is explicitly called out in the instruction booklet on Page 13 that it works that way.

During the boss battle against the giant piranha plant, that was before tantacles setted the donation thing so it was a free psycopath
During smithy first attempt
Against a random enemy during the grinding for the second attempt of the smithy fight, because someone donated it right as the first fight ended (iirc)

Eh, using the star(s) to get your XP up is acceptable. We know you can grind in regular battles to get the XP you need, but using the star(s) + game overs saves you and your audience a lot of time.

Nah I wouldn't say reloading the star is cheating, its just a fast way to grind you could do it the long way or the quicker way, maybe if you magic swap... yeah that prob be consider cheating but good job on the video love them!

I don't really see a reason to not allow this "exploit". All it does is save him time on grinding. Which should be expected for this kinda challenge.
Banning it just extends the time spent playing for no good reason and increases the chance of something random killing him.
(Yet, ironically, if he dies while grinding "normally", it would lead to the same result of him having more exp and everything else reset.)
