3. Other party members may not wear equipment
4. No red essence
5. If Geno is unable to be in the party, the party members may take all actions. Fights with multiple configurations are fought twice, once with and once without Geno (Valentina fight)
6. On level, other characters must take the bonus that provides them with the fewest number of defensive stat points. If these are equal, the bonus with the lowest attack must be taken.
7. No lazy shell
8. No super suit
9. No glitches/hacks
10. No Geno Whirl (This attack can do 9999 damage to any regular enemy and a particular boss. See Exor section of the video for details.)

That bomb glitch is an actual glitch. Basically that boss is scripted to summon a monster once it dies, but because the self destruct is set as an attack, not death, it acts as if it's still alive.

There were a few fights where Geno got his ash kicked, which would make most people leaf the quest behind. But Geno branched out by learning some new techniques, hitched up his trunks, and said "oak-y dokey".
All these wood puns had me stumped.

Dude Ican't beleive we get to relive mario getting murdered by an actual doll, live, in 4K. Truly the most Memorable pieces of mario media of all time.
For bowser and peach runs, IF you want them earlier, you can use the randomizer program to ONLY switch what characters are where and choose Bowser or Peach. Keep in mind I love these runs no matter what.
I’m gonna stick to vanilla for these runs, but for bowser and peach I’ll be doing both runs at the same time. 🤓🤓

Geno is my favorite RPG character of all time. Alien that inhabits a dope doll? YES. Geno Boost is nasty.

Shredder gets rid of Geno Boost, it doesn't have any effect other than removing bonus multipliers, including from your armor by the way, which does not come back during the fight. There is also no visual or numerical indicator anywhere telling you this stuff, and the very strong bosses in the game have Shredder.
That’s why geno is amazing! He can just recast it!
@@tantacles It is more useful than the armor in the shredder fights, that's for sure. (A lot of people have no idea what shredder does, among many other things the original game does not explain well.)

Yeah the Work Pants are kinda cracked, I get them for everybody (including Peach which is a funny mental image) and don't upgrade them until like Nimbus Land because their strength boost makes big damage numbers that makes the unga bunga part of my brain happy. Funnily enough they're Bowser's best armor until the Heal Shell found in his very castle.
Culex solo runs should be pretty easy if you can stock up on Rock Candy. Those slot machine treasure boxes in Land's End give out one if you match two stars and one other symbol (three of a kind just gets you a flower). Chucking a bunch of those at 200 damage each (300 with an Energizer/Geno Boost) takes out the crystals in a jiffy and puts a big hurt on Culex too.
So I think you’ll be surprised that while I did use the rock candies I collected passively, they were NOT a big part of the strategy.

Props for hard-moding the Exor fight, I know it's super tempting to use perfect timing Geno Whirl for the quick kill. I wonder if the remake is going to leave that weakness mistake in for historical reasons or if they're going to patch it out?

@@tantacles It'd be groovy if ultimately there was a lore reason (e.g. an extra line of dialogue uttered by the sword after the attack) added into the remake to justify _intentionally_ adding a 9999 Geno Whirl against it rather than simply remembering to set the invulnerability bit this time, but we'll see what happens.

1:47 Geno enters the game with high damage but poor defenses, especially with no protection against Sleep. Bowyer locks buttons based on what your party does. Under the rules of the Single Character Challenge (SCC), according to Amazing_Ampharos, "If you use either two physical attacks or one physical attack and one magic attack, Bowyer will lock Y. Otherwise, he will lock X. Note that 'magic attack' does not include HP Rain. Mallow mostly doesn't need to think about this, but Mario and Geno, if ignorant of this, will likely perish as they discover that the X button is perpetually locked. Be sure to use these tactics to unlock X when you need to use a Mushroom… He will use his physical attack or the sleep move when Y is locked, and he'll use Lightning Orb, Bolt (1/6), or his physical when X is locked. He won't attack immediately after locking X."
Geno Beam makes the early portion of Geno's Single Character Challenge (SCC) easier than otherwise. Simply use Geno Beam on Bowyer (or almost any early boss before Geno Blast is available) and victory is yours.
3:10 While Mario, Mallow, and Toadstool/Peach's base stats are aligned with one another's (Peach even joins with a weapon and armor), Geno and Bowser's base stats match Mario and Mallow's augmented stats (with weapons and armor) when they join. Unfortunately, this means that Geno's equipment is inferior to theirs, and Bowser's is even worse. (I hope Nintendo and Square Enix fix this issue in the new game.)
The Work Pants is not only a superior armor for Geno and (especially) Bowser but also for Mario and Mallow until Marrymore. If you are willing to press your luck, you can even combind the Work Pants and Zoom Shoes (from Booster Tower) on Geno and farm Kerokerocola from the elusive Shy Rangers (found in Pipe Vault in battles involving Piranha Plant) with Yoshi Cookies! (There is only a 25% success rate, so be patient.)

It takes very little fighting before Croco to reach level 7 with Geno; if you have trouble at level 6, just let yourself level up."
5:51 Booster Tower is great for leveling up at this point. If you need to level grind, pick on the Rob-ombs. According to
Amazing_Ampharos: "You will probably want to be at level 9 when you leave this place. Being well on your way to level 10 does not hurt, but then again, falling short of level 9 is not the greatest tragedy."
18:26 Geno's base 30 speed ensures that his turn is always before those of Czar Dragon (20) and the Helios (0), so you will always have to take all four hits from the Helios. The Safety Ring (which protects against Fear and Flame Wall) is the safer option between accessories, while the Jinx Belt is more aggressive and could save you precious Max Mushrooms (which I hope you farmed from Sackets on Star Hill using Yoshi Cookies).
20:04 The Jinx Belt will not only allow you to overwhelm Pink and Green before they can use their magic but also better withstand the hits from the three physical Rangers Red, Yellow, and Black. Make sure you have plenty of Max Mushrooms for the battle as a whole, as Breaker Beam will really hurt!
25:04 Unlike with other monsters, Carni-Kiss used by Neosquid is blockable.
It's nice they put in a more casual mode, but I really wish they would have added a hard mode as well.

If you ask me, using any kind of equipment on your characters before obtaining the character you want to solo with is fine, because all it's doing in my eyes is allowing you to start the run faster.

The Fire Dragon fight makes no sense. Why would Geno being faster NOT let him attack before the balls?
So basically, he’s faster than both the dragon and the balls. So the turn order is this:
1. Geno attack
2. dragon attacks and summons balls
3. Balls attack
Mario was slower than the dragon but faster than the balls, so the order there was:
1. Dragon attack and summon
2. Mario attack
3. Balls attack
Little bit of swag advice. For things like the cake candles and birdo shell, since the damage doesn't matter, you can save a bit of time by not using action commands.

Answering whether you can beat Super Mario RPG with only Geno is a piece of cake. But I assume you mean besides before you have Geno and the Cake boss, which may make it possible. The Cake makes any non-Peach single character challenge a no go if you have to face it solo. Peach is the only exception because you can't get her until after that fight.

I was thinking about doing a new playthrough but I've beaten the game with all the characters and then some, so I was wondering how to make it fresh... I remembered reading that the Japanese version was so hard that they balanced the game for the Western release.

Well I could tell you about the secrets of the game but I don’t think you’ll use one of those and the other is not for speed runners

The most broken item there is called “red essence “ you can find 2 in forest maze and least 3 turns providing invincibility to the character you use it on, the secret that speed runners don’t do is the casino way, where after comeback at booster tower and go up till find a clown 🤡 who is juggling he will offer u to play do it enough times (win consecutive) and the items (are disgusting candies the description tells) will get better (from disgusting to a lil bit better) once you do the best last one you get a casino card keep it and pay attention to the directions for perform the jumps do it correctly and you’ll find a hidden yellow block for stand jump on it and reach the new exit alike you gonna unlock the casino (isn’t the big deal but is there)
