It will somehow, be LOST by the store in question. This happens far more often than is reported. On my last trip to wally world, I was followed from stem to stern in that store by their LP, who I worked with and TRAINED for 5 years. I told her I hope she had on her walking shoes, as I took her around that store at least 5 times, filling up 2 carts of merchandise. I left those carts at the registers for the store management to put away. When I retired from that same store, the manager left STRICT instructions for me to be followed whenever I shopped there. I went over HIS head and had him transferred, since wally DOESN'T FIRE BAD MANAGERS, PERIOD. They are transferred to become someone else's headache. I wish the lady luck, but I'm betting that ZERO will happen to anyone at the store level.....

Walmart tried to accuse me of shoplifting too. I went in with my 8 year old son and bought a cart full of items including a truck for him. On the way out a man asked me for my receipt which I handed to him. He looked it over and told me that the truck was not on the list and asked me to out it back. I had just paid 39.99 for that truck and I WAS NOT going to out it back. I told him absolutely not. He continued to ask me to put it back and I refused then told him to get a manager. The manager came over and showed him it was on the receipt. I'm a nurse and I know not to treat others poorly, but I wanted to yell at him and tell him exactly what I thought of him.

Now I'm not saying that she did, or didn't...but I have personally observed store staff detain a woman that attempted to walk out of a store with a television using the same receipt from an earlier television purchase. Some people believe it is a better use of their time to spend their day trying to come up with ways to screw others over rather than using their time to better themselves.

So depends on state laws. I was an undercover loss prevention officer for 12 years including Walmart about 14 years ago. In Missouri, managers cannot arrest. In STL county and city, loss prevention officers must be licensed thru STL Police following 16 hours and a test. Then given all the powers of police with the use of handcuffs.
That being said, in Missouri, once merchandise is put into a bag, purse, etc. Its theft by concealment. However, because the courts want to give the benefit of the doubt, the alleged shoplifters must walk past cash registers making no attempt to pay, AND they must exit the store or vestibule. Only then will criminals be prosecuted for theft, for the simple reason, not everyone uses shopping carts or baskets and a CUSTOMER might pull out of the bag the merchandise and pay for it.
This manager needs to be fired.

I WAS ACCUSED OF STEALING INSIDE THE DAMN STORE (in my case)!!!! I had a shopping cart full of groceries. I turned around after looking at a laptop and their were these COPS ALREADY!!! I was shocked, frustrated and upset that when they told me if I was gonna buy the groceries. I was like the heck not!!! I was so upset I didn't feel like shopping Any more. Even told them to look at the cameras, after no evidence, I was STILL given a trespass. Walmart REALLY NEEDS TO CHANGE and just REALLY look into their employees and train them better!

I was wondering how many hours to work in a retail store like Wal-mart and Staples. In Staples, they falsely accused me of shoplifting and now I am totally banned from ever going into the store. They told me they have me on video but, I told them to show it to me. They say they could not show it to me but I have the right to see it. The whole staff should be banned and fired from Staples. They should be banned from ever working at any retail stores in Canada. That was about 5 years ago. I wanted this overturned for me. I believe they have something to hide or they do not like me because I am a handicapped person.

This is happening to me in Philadelphia. It's happening recently when I went into Aldi's and Five Below. I'm being followed but it's aggressive. I'll be 60 yrs old next week. It's exremely demoralizing and stressful. It's hard to shop when security is following you aile by aile. I had a talk with 2 managers at Aldi's after I checked out. Long talk and Introduced myself and said I'm part of the community, former board member of the local CDC, listed a bunch of things and people. They apologized, and said their security is a different company. Manager was new and said he was hired to change the culture. I'm spanish and middle eastern and they were black, so were sensitive to what I was discussing. I said this was happening regularly. And that I'm not stealing and your security if they are watching me are not watching someone who may be stealing. I own my house for 25 years in a highly gentrified and expensive area and 2 block radius of Aldi's. The paradox is that I've been involved heavily in my community over many years including 10 years on the supermarket committee to bring Aldi's to t he neighborhood. I had $98 worth of groceries and 10 days prior, I'd spent $128 worth of groceries. Makes no sense what would I be stealing. To just flag someone because they read every item, they take their time, I don't even know what the triggers are. In Five Below, I believe an undercover young man came and rudely said excuse me while I was in the cell phone department on the 2nd floor and then stood literally inches from me to the point it felt weird and toxic, so I put back what i was looking at and moved to the next aile. He then came to next aile with me and then disappeared. I watched him and actually thought he was acting peculiar. I then went back to my initial aile and suddenly a very stern woman came and stood at attention in the corner of the aile I was in. I realized it was to watch me. I have a new cell phone at home that I'm looking to buy accessories for and just wanted to price check. They didn't have my brand, Motorolla cases, so i was looking at other accessories. I wanted to look at other things but was so uncomfortable and grabbed impulse buys that i need to return but dreading now. I had a $17 lunch I was holding and my verizon router because I was in Center City Phila and been doing other errands. I want to get a lawyer. I'm obviously confused with someone and on a national list. I'm also becoming nervous when I go to any retail store and I have dogs and cats and need to shop. It's not happening everywhere. I need t get a lawyer.

Seeing this in 2021 but had an incident at a wal mart when walking with a person we were stopped by a pair of officers who spoke to us and then followed us to the check out. We had walked past the assistant manager as i talked to the person who had picked up an item left in the wrong place . I told her to put it back where she found it and was explaining that small items like it were often stolen as we walked past the manager. As we walked past the electronics area this happened on Christmas eve we were stopped. It was very upsetting I got on line and complained they called were very apologetic that manager is no longer at wal mart. But yes it is something I still think about every time I go there or any place to shop.

I've been wrongfully accused for theft one time and its embarrassing. I can feel exactly all over again what that woman endured. Or any person who was wrongfully accused.
When the manager cleared things up I gave him some hell for it. He expressed his shame for what happened. The employee that claimed I stole cigarettes and I don't even smoke or do drugs kept pushing the manager to take action. The employee had no evidence, and I had two cops ready to detain me. But the good thing was that the cops demanded more evidence. They arrived but they saw no reason to arrest me because of how vague the situation was. While I never sued, the cops did charge the employee for false accusations and even for wasting a 911 call. That was enough for me to be honest. He got what he deserved, and the manager fired him. But it was still humiliating. I was a regular customer there because they sold the only type of product I prefer there. It was a kick in the face, and I just stopped shopping there. The manager sent a letter to apologize and said although he is saddened I won't be shopping there again he respects my decisions. I forgot the name of the store because it was long ago and the store chain doesn't exist anymore.

The police have no authority to ban you anywhere. They can ask/make you to leave, but if you return in the future, you aren’t in violation of anything. A permanent ban must be issued be a judge.

I used to work loss prevention at sears, we had so many rules on stopping a shop lifter. Even if I saw someone steal but couldn't 100% see where the product was concealed I had to let them go. We had to watch someone with out the product grab the product and see exactly where it went. And then watch them leave. If not we could be fired and charged with unlawful detainment. Seems like Walmart just does what they want.

Or maybe, they asked to see her receipt to verify her purchases prior to her exiting the store, which as a private business is their right, and she possibly denied them access to the receipt resulting in WalMart management calling police and having her trespassed from WalMart. Clearly there is more to this than the David and Goliath story that the "News" is trying to portray as her receipt shows the purchases were made at 08:29 while the officer's bodycam shows her being detained as she exits the store at 12:36 on the same day. Now I'm not saying that she did, or didn't...but I have personally observed store staff detain a woman that attempted to walk out of a store with a television using the same receipt from an earlier television purchase.

A company has every right to ban someone from their stores as it is classed as private property, and is sometimes the only way to deal with serial shoplifters who may work in gangs with other people. Sometimes they know what is going on, but the clever shoplifters know how to skirt the law, and that sometimes the officers don't want to fill in tedious paperwork.. Two sides to every story, and why should the company respond to these hacks. Who made a respectable company answerable to third rate hacks in the fourth estate.

Sounds to me it’s this manager that is the problem. How do you admit you never observed someone stealing anything but accuse them of stealing.
