Until I found your vid, all I could find on the Web were recipes that looked like apples gift-wrapped in dough. Your recipe took me back my great-grandmother’s kitchen when I was a little girl. Your recipe was SO much like what I remember...thank you so much.
Sure do miss getting cozy and watching a video like this when Miss Phyllis was still with us. But feel so blessed we still can visit with spirit just like this now! Grateful!
It's been a rough couple of weeks and really missing my mom. One summer she set out on a quest to make the most perfect apple pie. We were more than happy to be her ginny pig testers for the many pies she baked, each one more delicious than the previous! She absolutely nailed it! Once she saw a recipe in the local paper for these exact apple dumplings and she made them. We were so use to her scrumptious apple pies our immature palettes weren't ready for a apple dumpling so sadly to say these were not a hit. Mom's been gone for 5 years now but I still miss her very much and strangely I started thinking about her apple dumplings. I googled "boiled apple dumplings" and behold Phyllis's video was in the suggestions. I use to watch your mom's video's all the time and it was like a visit from a much needed friend. What a incredible blessing!
I miss this woman like she was related to me. She really calmed me down 4 years ago. She sounds like my mom! God rest her soul. And Mr.Bucky and their puppies as they pass on too.
I was making apple butter in my crockpot and was thinking of you, Phyllis, as I peeled the apples. I think of you every day. You are and always will be a big part of my life. I fall asleep at night listening to your videos. I know that you and Mr Bucky are at peace, I just miss you. You voice is such a comfort. I lost my in-laws, Daddy, Mama, and my daughters daddy, then Mr Bucky and you. I know we will all be together again some day. Love ya.
When I was a little girl my grandma would make these just like this. Never the ones covering a whole Apple, just like this. I searched and searched and found this recipe and I’m so grateful to have a little taste of home (North Carolina). I love Phyllis’ recipes and I’m so grateful she left this beautiful legacy behind so we can all feel the warmth and comfort of home. What a treasure she was and is ❤️
Dear Phyllis. I first listened to your prune dumplings, then it went to your cherry dumplings and then to my amazement it went to COUNTRY APPLE DUMPLINGS!!!!!!! I watched them all in that order and said what the heck, at least I can ALLMOST make Grams! BUT then the blessing happened when the last one was REAL Apple Dumplings, God BLESS YOU! I HAVE to say. I am 70, and have been searching for my Gram Lunn's recipe for REAL apple dumplins! EVERY other recipe is like...WRONG! hehehe ...they wrap em, they put noodles in the pot and call it 'dumplings'. (They are NOT!) I CANNOT thank you enough for your treasured recipe. AND I remember the vanilla sauce and wasn't sure how I was going to make it in a made up recipe in my head. But YOU are an angel and so was my Gramma Lunn. My heart is so happy. Love, Janet
I’m seeing videos I haven’t seen before, this looks very tasty, she always made simple, delicious treats and meals. She was always so kind to answer any questions I had, it’s gonna be hard not to ask now. I know she’s gone, but her videos, she will never be gone, she will continue to show her beautiful personality, share sweet stories, and teach those of us how to cook delicious food. I forgot ur name (her son) know that she is proud of u, she’d be happy that u continue to show her videos. I thank u
Phyllis, I just love all your videos, the good ole days! Did Mr. Buckey know what a good cook you were when you got together?? Your story is so wonderful! Thanks so much, I feel like I know you!
You may already know this, but if you put a wooden spoon across the top of the pot, it will not boil over. I have found this so helpful when I got busy cooking and sidetracked by one of my kids.
Hi Love that apple peeler I always enjoyed this wonderful women Her voice was calming & I’m so happy to watch her again 😊❤️😊 Such a pleasure Thank you Brenda
I love apples n dumplings... you make them like my moma and granny did... they are the best! LOL My moma always put in lemon juice too... Thank you Ms Phyllis Stokes so much for this recipe and every video you've made!
I always said having the right tools for the job is so important....I love my cherry pitter. And chopper etc. but like you I’m a gadget person..have not seen that informercial would love one of them...... thank you for sharing......
Phillis , I watched the video on the RV. It was fabulous . I think I've watched most of your videos. I believe you can do anything you want to. Oh, I know what you mean about prayer. Sometimes I'm a shamed to ask God for the simplest things. But, you know he must not think they are silly. It is just amusing ,for instance w hen I get in my car for a trip, I say, "Lord please watch over me and give me a safe trip , and save me a space in the handy cap parking section". I have two knees and two hips replacements. It's hard to walk very far. I might have to circle the lot a time or two, but, it is always there. I live alone, and he's watched over me for 82 years.
Finally somebody thats actually making dumplings all the other ones i found are not dumplings there like little pies or something not how my grandma from Oklahoma made them at all so thanks!
Its 3:48am & believe it or not..Im gonna make this...lol I was wanting something sweet..but also filling & I think this will hit the spot.. then off to a good sleep... Thanks for sharing !!!
I'm with you on the hulls. I use an apple peeler/corer/slicer because I've got a Granny Smith tree and usually process up to 60 apple pie fillings. It's great by the time the crust is made, the apples are thawed (I put the flour, butter and spices in with the apples when I freezer bag the pies).
These are one of my favorite things!! I LOVE the Dumplings and Juice (couldn't care too much for the apples) I do like my Dumplings kinda larger and HEAVY/Doughy but I bet I could make em with this recipe! My mouth was watering through the screen!
I have one of these StarFrit apple peelers I got at WalMart. I LOVE it. I also found I could sharpen the blades on the ring of a bottom of a stoneware coffee cup.
Mrs. Phyllis, thank you so much for this recipe. I just made it for my family and it is a huge hit! I was concerned cause I had to quadruple the recipe but it turned out fantastic! Thank you, again. I really love all of your videos and you are in my continued prayers. I've asked my other prayer partners to pray for you also. May God bless you and keep you, sweet lady!
I am going to try this my husbands mother use to make this when he was a child she never gave up this recipe so for 48 years I have tried to duplicate this I showed him the end of your videoand he said it looked like what he remembered so we are both excited to try your recipe I will let you know if it is what I have searched for for so long Thankyou
I absolutely love your recipes. I've been watching a few and have saved nearly all of them to my recipes playlist. Good old fashioned baking! You also seem very sweet, like a very down to earth sort of lady. Good luck with all you do.
all that I can say right now is… Yum! I don't even have to taste it to know it's delicious! I can't wait to make this for my family. Thank you so much for sharing I love the things you make. Great channel.
Ms Phyllis, after watching this video with the apple peeler, I was in a thrift store and there was a brand new apple peeler still in the box, just like yours, I was thrilled, went home and made your apple dumplings, love this apple peeler and the apple dumplings were great.
😂I can almost smell those apples! Those look so good! Thanks for the demo and showing us the apple peeler. I need one of those. It does a beautiful job. Love your show too. Your energy amazes me with all the different projects you take on. I saw the camper you re-did and you did an awesome job. I look forward to seeing all your videos but it might take a few months, you have so many and I just began watching you. Bless you and Mr. Buckey!
I am going to try this recipe for sure. That is SOO AWESOME THAT YOIR GRANDPARENTS HAD AN APPLE ORCHARD!! I have never had a dessert like this one. I am looking forward to trying it. It's like the dumplings in Chicken and Dumplings but SWEET and Not Savory. YUM!!! I cannot wait to try this one. 😊😋
I couldn't find this particular peeler but found one a LOT like it on Amazon -- with a bonus apple slicer/corer. I love it...! I even like the apple slicer/corner thing (though sometimes I have to cut a bit more out of the inside of the slices).
A drizzle of Carnation evaporated milk on top sounds good too. I must try this! Thank you for another jewel video. Merry Christmas Phyllis, Mr. Bucky, and your furbabies.
Oh my goodness, Miss Phyllis , looks absolutely delicious ! I love apple dumplins ! Im going to try and make these stove top apple dumplins ! ! ! Yummy ! 😍🤗❤
HAHAHAHA!!!! When I was married, my ex and my daughter had a joke that they should get me at least one "useless kitchen gadget" for Christmas every year. Your apple peeler reminds me of the Rotato they got me one year. I didn't ever try apples on it, but it was a wonderful for peeling kiwi because it has such a thin peel and you don't want to lose any of the fruit.
Until I found your vid, all I could find on the Web were recipes that looked like apples gift-wrapped in dough. Your recipe took me back my great-grandmother’s kitchen when I was a little girl. Your recipe was SO much like what I remember...thank you so much.

You were such a great teacher.
Phyllis, I just love all your videos, the good ole days! Did Mr. Buckey know what a good cook you were when you got together??
Your story is so wonderful! Thanks so much, I feel like I know you!
I made this and Hubby was very happy it was as close as I could get to his Moms, so after 48 years I had a success so thank you so much.
You may already know this, but if you put a wooden spoon across the top of the pot, it will not boil over. I have found this so helpful when I got busy cooking and sidetracked by one of my kids.
Others have told me about this trick to keep the pots from boiling over, I use it all the time now. Thanks.

Need to try this recipe. Family loved the Cherry Dumplings I made from your recipe recently. Yum.
I always thought apple peelers were a joke, but that apple peeler is totally fascinating. Incredible!
Where did u get the peeler
I'm with you on the hulls. I use an apple peeler/corer/slicer because I've got a Granny Smith tree and usually process up to 60 apple pie fillings. It's great by the time the crust is made, the apples are thawed (I put the flour, butter and spices in with the apples when I freezer bag the pies).
I just tried these. They are delicious just like all of your recipes I've tried.
That looks delicious. It kind of reminds me of cobbler. I will have to try this recipe.
These are one of my favorite things!! I LOVE the Dumplings and Juice (couldn't care too much for the apples) I do like my Dumplings kinda larger and HEAVY/Doughy but I bet I could make em with this recipe! My mouth was watering through the screen!
