Still watching Miss Phyllis videos. Every night it is like spending time with a dear friend.
I learned to make brownies in 4H when I was 8. Started making cakes and cookies at 7 and been making pies since I was 9. Our home ec class couldn't teach me anything my mother hadn't alreafy. We didn't have an electric mixer everything was mixed, beaten and whipped by hand. So happy I have my kitchenaid now.

Trudy D. I knew the brownie recipe would be delicious, but I just wanted mainly to hear her soothing voice and see that beautiful twinkle in her eyes. The taste test by Mr. Bucky was a bonus. ❤️

Miss Phyllis, I made your brownies today. Oh my goodness! You were right. They are way better than any box brownies. The butter and chocolate make all the difference in the world! I know you and Mr. Bucky are watching from heaven. I wish I could have met y'all in person! May you rest in peace!

So, tonight...while we're in quarantine here in Niagara Canada, I'm going to make these for my husband and son.🙏🤗❤

My mom passed when I was a teenager, then I lived with my grandmother until I got married. I remember her having a cookbook that had a brown cover, about a 5x7 size, and I used to make the brownie recipe from it. This reminds me of that recipe so much, but I as of yet have not been able to find that exact cookbook or recipe. I thought it was Fannie Farmer but wasn't, also bought a few other cookbooks, but I'm still searching!!! Thanks so much for sharing this! I'm definitely going to have to try this since it is so close to what I remember!!!❤

The exact same recipe I use, Phyllis. I short cut the recipe by doing the whole process all in one bowl, ( pan ). The pan that I melt the dark and bitter-sweet chocolate and butter in. I then add the sugar ( after the butter/chocolate has cooled a little ), incorporate the sugar, then I add the eggs and fully incorporate them, then the vanilla ( I also add about an eight of a teaspoon of almond flavoring ), then the flour/salt and mix, then the nuts. I cook my in a 9x13 pan, lined in aluminum foil and butter it, then I cook for 30-35 minutes and use a toothpick to check consistency. Let cool and turn out onto a cutting board, remove the foil and then cut. Delicious and chewy too! Thanks for taking us down memory lane with you. I remember making these in home-economics and boy were they good!

Brownies was my first baking experience to enter in the fair when I was a little kid. I had to use a double boiler to melt the chocolate. The tops were glossy and raised a bit above the chewy centers. No need for frosting on top. I won first prize at the fair.
