I absolutely adore your videos. Just this week, RUclips recommended one of your videos based on my previous video views. After one video, I started binge watching your videos. You are the absolute epitome of a true southern lady. As a southern woman myself, I am finding that the gracious southern ladies of my mother's and grandmother's generations are disappearing, which is a true tragedy. It is refreshing to watch your videos. You've brought me laughter, knowledge, and tears in just a few short days. I just wanted to let you know that I truly enjoy and look forward to your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your recipes, sewing videos, stories, and wisdom. God bless you and Mr. Bucky.

Lovely comment! I'd never known a Southern Gentlewoman until meeting my future mother-in-law. She has taught me so much and I tried to pass it all to my own daughter. On one special birthday one of her daughter's gave her a lovely embroidered t-shirt that said 'G.R.I.T.S.---Girls Raised In The South' and I've always loved it when she'd wear it so proudly.

One of my fondest memories as a 14yr old was blackberry picking all day coming home tired and scratched from head to toe. My aunt washed and cleaned the blackberries and made blackberry dumplings that was 48 years ago I can still smell and taste them like it was yesterday..

Blackberry dumplings are my dads favorite, we would have them all summer long and throughout the year using frozen blackberries. Sometimes we added blueberries and raspberries but usually just blackberries. Only thing is, we found the dumplings so filling that we would just have them for dinner, not even wait for dessert.

This video touched me so deeply I'm teary eyed. I found you in my recommended videos. My grandmother was a 50's housewife. Unfortunately she passed in 1972 (four years before I was born). In a way I kinda felt like I was getting a sample of what my grandmother would have been preparing. And it touched me so.
As I was going to comment on this you started to speak on your allergies. My daughter is severely allergic to peanuts. So I'm all too familiar with anaphylaxis, EpiPens and ambulance rides to the ER.
I am so touched how relatable this video was. May God bless you ❤️

Your cooking is so much like hers, and it's so comforting to have your videos to watch when I wonder about something and can't call her to ask. Thanks for posting, I enjoy watching them. I found you about a week ago, and I probably watch 10-12 of your videos a day. You and Mr. Bucky are so much fun to watch. Thanks again!

you know I was one of those people that always poo pooed people saying they were allergic to this or that. So I did a little research and found out our food is not made the way it was 40 plus years ago, there are so many chemical and other things sprayed and injected into food today. It is a miracle half of us aren't dead. Love your videos, Phyllis.

Thank you so much for sharing your allergy story with us. People need to talk about things that effect us in our lives because it can be a great learning experience to others one day. It is also a comfort to those who suffer with similar things. I have depression along with "fears" that keep me trapped sometimes and I recently shared this to some people. Low and behold, by telling this problem, I was able to relate to a niece who has phobias similar to me. See what I mean? Thank you for blessing our lives through your cooking and your stories!

@@PhyllisStokes Have you tried Cherry since your reaction? My brother cannot methylate properly. As well as I. My mother my grandmother my aunt and three out of six of my cousins we all carry MTHFR SNP gene mutations. I have to say this incognito. Please keep away from the pincushion they offer every year. Rhymes with shoe pot. Starts with an f second word starts with an s.
We too have had severe allergies our immune systems attacking us all kinds of problems. When these things happen, we're not taking our methyls. We can't methylate properly. We can't remove the toxins from our cells. My brother for instance anything that had a preservative in it. Crossing his poor lips from his lips his tongue his mouth his insides the same problem.
Very proud I'm the one that got my family diagnosed. I've been studying the human body since the issues I've witnessed when I was 10. Big long story. When I was 17 I met a naturopathic doctor. Every Saturday I met with him. He gifted me his library. And he's the one that helped me figure out my family. My cousin with epilepsy, my grandmother with early onset dementia, my aunt all of us my mother me my cousins. My brother. Very essential to us, beef liver. It's the proper folate and B12. You can also take l-methylfolate, if you have issues with making glutathione you can also take l-glutathione the vegan B12 source is not worth anything. We have done substantial testing blood test and blood serum test. Two different things. The only way we can get B12 to actually stay within our stores is from beef liver. It's really lovely today they have it freeze dried ground up and in pill form for you.
All of us can also react to nitrates, preservitves chemicals. As well as synthetics of any kind. And I'm talking from something as simple as folic acid that is in everything pre-made and pre-processed. Extremely bad for us. My brother is not one to constantly take care of himself. So when these reactions stir back up in him. I'm buying his protocols and telling him get on it. As a matter of fact, having problems with methylation goes hand in hand with nutrient deficiency. And it can build up problems within us. For those of us that have these over reactions a lot of the times are thymus gland has been overworked by their pin cushions they have given to us over our lifetime. Certain ingredients inside of these things can cause a reaction. I cannot stress how important it is to keep your methyl pathways clear and working properly.
Hands down I'm pointing at the hot dogs. You can get an MTHFR test, normally through your insurance it's only about $50. If you have to pay out of pocket it's around $300. It is a very very very important test for anyone that has reactions. Synthetic hormones synthetic vitamins. And I say synthetic meaning they make the chemical compound of that very vitamin. A lot of times such as folic acid. Your body has to change it into two different chemicals. The first chemical it changes into is chemical within the cyanide family this chemical is trapped in your cell you can't get it out because you cannot methylate properly. Immediately whenever I notice people having reactions I know immediately to tell them please go get an MTHFR test.
It's a whole new world when you start clearing your methylpathways, allergies start falling away from you. Raw milk if you have a histamine issue is essential to you. The buttermilk that you show that is so good. The enriched flower that you show. Things like this are not good for us. I cannot stress how much your world will change when you start adding in raw milk raw cheeses and making your own raw yogurt. What this does for histamine reaction is absolutely a miracle and a half. All of us growing up, goats milk raw always. I didn't grow up drinking cow's milk although we had cream from the cow. And made butter from the milk. As well as, yogurt. Medicinally though, goat's milk all the way. I would break out in hives head to toe. I've been in your shoes. What was I allergic to what wasn't I allergic to? I also found, my grandmother and myself and our hypermobility EDS ehlers-danlos syndrome. Intertwined within the RCC x Gene. We genetically do not carry the DNA to host a specific bacteria that breaks down oxalates. Calcium is a double-edged sword for us. And our liver also produces I believe it's an enzyme our liver doesn't do that in your liver can actually produce everything your body needs but that is for a fight or flight moment in your life. It is not to be considered as substantial for your body and every need. It was quite shocking because I had a couple of theories and the naturopathic doctor. Dr Francis Klein. Incredible man. He was 72 when I met him. I spoke of how the ketogenic diet helped my cousin and my grandmother. Epilepsy and early onset dementia. He was the one to find the clue of our methylation problem. And he is also the one that has set me on my path of herbalism. I work with people with methylation issues for one. So many people that are ill with many different issues can't methylate properly. I have a protocol for cirrhosis of the liver and hepatitis, it is not end of stage disease. It does not take methotrexate a cancer medication that can damage good cells and bad cells. It is a barbaric method for anyone to get over having high bilirubin. These people's livers do not function properly. That's why they are in the state that they are. Whether it's self-induced or a virus. Our medical system separated in the early 90s proclaiming specializing in medicine. I knew in 92 when they were bragging about this their sons and daughters going into special medicine. This was another downfall to humanity's health. The doctor that was giving me a tetanus shot which I proclaimed I shouldn't be getting. Was bragging about his son, and I said well this is one way to bring harm and keep heart attacks and vascular issues climbing. He laughed at me and I said don't laugh. When you separate everything in the body. Everything starts with what you put into the body what you put on to the body or what you inject. By specializing in medicine you're going to take away all of these clues that work together. The body must work together. Specializing medicine is a crockery. He laughed at me and said well you can change medicine when you get older. I looked at him and I said are you kidding me the system will never change. Humanity has to put their foot down and speak up for it. It does nothing more than perpetuate more disease and illness. Which I found the link for. How does one mutate DNA? Simple via RNA. By infiltrating the lymphocyte B cells with viruses. And the scary part. Biologically the medical system knows what they're doing. How else did they come up with the new mRNA technology. You can see the genetic changes within people within 2 to 4 years. You mutate DNA via RNA, by doing so you bring up recessive genes. You also make a lot of allergies and a lot of genetic syndromes. Of course it perpetuates more illness more allergies. An infant that doesn't have a gut microbiome yet. Their immune system is not even functioning until they're three.
I work with many people that have metabolic disease. People literally don't realize that insulin is a terrible thing. Not only does insulin shrink the brain. It also puts the body and perpetual stress. When you have glucose running through your body. Insulin within the blood is a trigger that you could be injured and not heal properly. It can cause many different issues and people. Over working the pancreas causing dysfunction of the gallbladder.
You can reverse illness. You have to get everything to function as it needs to function. For instance if I'm trying to lower someone's bilirubin. I know the function of their pancreas and gallbladder are not working properly they are not producing the proper enzymes to even start breaking down the nutrition so the bacteria can help deliver the nutrition to the cell. Our gut bacteria is responsible for more than just breaking down a nutrient it also the communication hub between all cells. It helps us assimilate neurotransmitters and hormones to function properly.
The number one hormone in a human's body the king and queen the master the mother hormone that dictates all other hormone production, our number one sexual steroidal hormone. And I repeat steroidal hormone. It's called pregnenolone. This is an exceptionally low hormone within so many that have reactions histamine reactions. Cholesterol raw egg yolk, your gut bacteria doesn't have to break that down it can be used immediately to assimilate pregnenolone. Prednisone pregnenolone. Our medical system deems to synthesize anything and everything. As a matter of fact my great-grandfather I found out when I was 27, my grandmother and aunt finally confess. He was called a witch doctor. He was not of the sort he was a natural pathic doctor. But Rockefeller coming into money and pharmaceuticals synthesizing anything and everything. The medical group demonized them through the church and considered them using witchcraft. I'm not joking. What's precious is my grandmother said to me, you are more like your great-grandfather's daughter than I ever could be. I can't tell you how comforting that was. Especially the history of our family that we kept hidden. Such as hiding my grandfather's true work. Calling him a traveling salesman. Makes me chuckle and feel sad all at the same time.

@@PhyllisStokes To get nutrition into the cell I have to help the person with ox bile. I also have to help reseed their gut microbiome. I must get essential fats and vitamins and minerals to flush their cells properly. Their methyls need help. I will give them a double-edged sword. L-methylfolate l-glutathione and beef liver. Along with pre and probiotics. If they are heavy I have to trigger their body into using their own fat. Here's where vegans think that they are so healthy from their vegan diet, they were able to trigger their body to use their fat properly. Yet they keep on with the diet. And literally years down the road they will have eaten through their blood serum stores. The only nutrition that is bioavailable is from animals. They are essential to your hormonal health. They are essential to your brain especially cholesterol. Which is used by everything in your body. 63% of your blood cell is made up of cholesterol. Your brain is over 60% cholesterol your skin and tissues your connective tissue. If heavy I will put them on a different style of diet and explain to them you cannot keep on with this. Once you hit that plateau of weight loss you must add back in your essential fats and animal nutrition is pertinent.
So many people I work with autoimmune conditions. Neurological issues. Metabolic issues. Literally 97% of these people can't methylate properly. Allergic reactions a huge number one sign.
Please please get tested. There is only one flour I would suggest anyone purchase. It comes out of Italy. But I say this and this is fact. My father-in-law partonventor of a specific Roundup and that is a huge story. A seed genetically only knows one thing to uptake nutrition. It doesn't matter if you drive them out grind them up make them into a bread pasta whatever you like. That nutrition that you are in taking that nutrition now will be updated by what you are eating. Genetically it only knows to uptake nutrition. You cannot change the genetic profile or the intelligence of a seed by grinding it up drying it out and making what you will with it. Nuts and seeds, as well as grains, these are only made to uptake nutrition to grow another plant. The vegan diet that they push you don't have for stomachs. And even organics are sprayed with glyphosate the chemical compound when it breaks down the byproduct of it is considered a salt. A xenoestrogen, it mimics our estrogen as well as it mimics glycine. Please see the work of Dr Stephanie seneff. Prepare to have your mind blown. my father-in-law with the only one I knew to speak of this and she is the only one alive that I know is speaking the same things my father-in-law spoke to me but he is no longer with us..
Please get an MTHFR test. Please know that there are certain things you may want to remove out of your diet and things you want to add. And they will help you so so much especially with your allergic reactions. I hope my comment posts few and far in between do especially since what has happened for these past 2 years. I cannot express, when getting something forcefully put into the body for immunity this causes a Cascade of problems within our system. Overworking the thymus gland, destroying our ability to make T cells and B cells properly. The dysfunction of our body and the absorption such as, tryptophan is the lightest brightest amino acid out there. It helps us take an available sunlight to make melanin melatonin and D3. The sun has been so demonized. And so many can be triggered into cancer. The dysfunction of cancers the dysfunction of a cell not doing its proper thing. We have cancer inside of us always. The genetic changes that they have manipulated. For instance. Judith Baker and that's Judith with a y. I'm using talk text. In high school she was able to reproduce cancer in 7 to 9 days. How did she do so? By injecting viruses into rats and bombarding them with x-rays. This is why many people that fly in our airline stewarts and stewardesses have a huge problem with soft tissue cancers. Flying around you're flying around a lot of radiation. when you start injecting things you actually start the dysfunction of the cell the overworking of the immune system. Little things that are inside of these things a lot of people don't realize. Bovine blood serum hog chicken proteins other animal viral proteins. These normally would never bypass your eye your nose your mouth or your blood brain barrier. The way we intake things is how our immune system is triggered. You don't trigger immunity by having something enter into the bloodstream. Although, back whenever women would get cow pox or tuberculosis from a cow. They would not get sick and die. They would get sick and be fine. They have been doing no more than spreading disease. Did you know that the Spanish flu was never originating in spain. Conveniently it was the only place that was left open for military to project information out. Everywhere else was shut down. Funny thing. 6 million military men ready to go fight World war 1. All tapped. This came out of fort Riley Kansas. Please see the work of Eleanor I McBean. Publication 1957 you can find it on search engine brave and read it. She saw the patterns and witnessed what was happening. They hide this from everyone. They also hid the information about what Judith figured out.
Bone broth so essential. Yet if overcooked, 1 hour, it can start producing its own msg. Which can be detrimental to those that cannot methylate properly. Bone should be roasted off, you can make your mix and cook that off onions and all the good stuff you want to flavor your broth. Then add in the bones and cook for no more than one hour. Roasting them helps break them down. To get the good stuff out. Turkey has more tryptophan than chicken most think. This is incorrect. Chicken has more tryptophan than turkey. It's the holiday lighting around Thanksgiving that triggers you to be tired. Old Chinese medicine black chicken soup so it essential it is one of the highest amounts of tryptophan found in any bird. There is a bantam variety and the silky chicken. These originate from China and India. They are one of the most essential birds to make a meat bird out of. Because of tryptophan we can take in the available sunlight to make melanin melatonin and D3. D3 is like gasoline to every single cell. When we are low on D3 our cells are slow and sluggish and things can slip by and here is where the dysfunction of the body starts to trip and fall over its own feet so to speak. The demonization of the sun stay out of the sun protect yourself say out of the sun. One protects their skin by slowly getting a tan. Building up melanin. The sun is essential for the process of our cells functioning properly. It helps us produce melanin and melatonin. Without melatonin triggering, your body makes its neurotransmitters and hormones when you sleep. This is why melatonin is so essential to that process. Without tryptophan, and you cannot buy a vegan source of this and get the same thing you can from bone & animal protein and fat. As a matter of fact. I know when a vegan has finally eaten through their blood serum stores. That is when they lose the ability to actually produce any melanin. These people turn a solo yellow grayish greenish color. People of color that were once rich with dark deep chocolate melanin will turn coffee with cream. A dangerous state for anyone to be in. your body can use these vegan sources and go oh yeah okay. But then they don't work anymore. It's because they're not essential to our cells. I cannot express how vital the sun is as well as pure real good tryptophan from bird meat. Bird bone. If a vegan were able to get the proper amounts of tryptophan out of avocados and seeds. Then they would not lose their ability to produce melanin. Many of the popular ones on RUclips Instagram and tick tock are using self-tanning creams. Pushing it as, having fair skin no freckles not a blemish. No not at all. It's the triggering of burning the skin that is bad. If one does not burn the skin. You are flying gold. Getting little amounts 10 minutes here 10 minutes there 10 minutes here 10 minutes there. Glasses off. It is very essential that the sunlight hits your eyes as well as your skin. There's a lot of validity to humans being a light being. Did you know that our genes can actually be triggered and manipulated by light? And that's going down a really deep rabbit hole. I think I've given you a lot of information to chew on. Again I send you many blessings. And lots of cheer. My grandmother used to make a recipe like this. We would eat it over vanilla bean ice cream. Churned. If we wanted it we had to churn it. That's another use we use cow milk for. But I'll tell you it has been a long time since I have used sugar or flour. The inability to break down oxalates. My whole diet has completely and utterly changed. And I am for the better. Ketogenic diet is not for me I actually eat a carnivore diet. Handed this in 2004 before it was ever popular. Makes me laugh. I swear they use even diet to try to divide us today. But I will fight for bioavailable nutrient dense animal nutrition hands down over any vegan nutrition any day. Godspeed God bless. May blessings always be at your feet and always be given by your hands.
Good luck God bless and Godspeed.

I agree, you should do a whole video on how you handle your allergies and your emergency plan of action. I actually cried when you were telling about calling 911 and not being able to speak, but they knew your # and sent you an ambulance. It such a wonderful thing that they were aware to do the right thing fast. I don't think people in a larger city would have that sort of thing happen. My young receptionist died during an asthma attack, she lived alone with a very young son. It's a lot more common than we know that people can't speak and need help getting help, people of every age need a plan. I think it would be a BIG help if you could do a teaching video on how to handle that. Have a Great Holiday! Those cherries looked delicious. : )

I worked a good part of my adult life so I know exactly what your mother went through with no time to teach anyone how to cook. I would pick the children up at daycare and school rush home, fix supper, get the children a bath, spend maybe 30 minutes getting them ready for bed, cleaning the supper dishes, planning what we would wear the next day, washing a load of clothes, taking the clothes out of the dryer from the day before, folding them and putting them away and then maybe have time to myself from about 9:30 pm until 10:30 pm which was my bedtime since I had to get up in the morning at 6:00.
Your mother deserves a lot of praise for earning an income and keeping up a home with children.
I did not start teaching my daughter how to cook until she was 16 years old but by this time she was much more interested in her friends and boys than learning how to cook. Women who work when they have young children have a very hard life and deserve all the help and praise they can get. Thumbs up to your mom.

One grandmother made blackberry dumplings and we ate it with ice cream. My grandmothers are gone now, but these are sweet memories!! The other grandmother made corned beef with sauteed onions and potatoes. I added garlic...delicious!! It was a family favorite of my children. I always used Libby's brand. You are cute as a button. You remind me so much of my lovely grandma. She has departed, but both of you are true southern ladies. It's so nice to see that. I am 40, and I am appalled by the things that go on around my age range and by the younger generation. You bring home the southern goodness I am used to. Bless you and your family. And of course your fur babies, too. :)

Thank you for this video. It reminded me of my grandma as she made vinegar dumplings. She made them for me once in a moment of nostalgia and I am glad she did...her mother made them for her. The recipe was basically sugar, vinegar, water, and red food coloring. Then she made drop dumplings like yours only using lard. I think these may have been a poor man's take on the ones you made. I know the addition of the red food coloring made it seem like a tart cherry sauce even though there were no cherries and she said it did to her also. I miss her and I am glad you lived through that horrifying event and that we are not without you...I just found you and Mr. Bucky. I can't wait to watch all your videos. God Bless you all your endeavors.

Cherry dumplings really ARE incredibly good. I've been making them for years and I typically use the frozen tart cherries. When I serve them up for family or friends, I also pour some heavy cream on top of each bowl of dumplings to add some extra richness. Another version that is really good is a mixture of Raspberries, Blueberries & Blackberries. When on sale, I buy the pre-packaged, frozen Private Selection brand Mixed Berries at Kroger. Those make really good dumplings, too. Thanks for sharing your video, Phyllis. I enjoy watching all of your recipes. Lots of comfort food!

Ms. Phyllis, you have changed my life with your watermelon video you posted! I told so many people about it and nobody else had heard of it, except a friend of my mothers who is Mexican. However, they all said they are going to try it. I used the tajin seasoning on it...and everything else...and I LOVE it! I just put some on my BLT sandwich and wooow! It's now a staple in my house. Thank you so much for sharing that with us. And I love cherry pie...going to have to try the s recipe out as well. 👍🏼

Wow. I'm glad you are ok! Thank god for the epipen and Benadryl! My sister has peanut allergy since she is young and Exzema that is worse than mine but due to food elimination she found a way to reduce it and she doesn't eat cake and anything with peanuts, shrimp and other things. WrinkleinTime42 When my sister was young the teacher removed her from the class to eat lunch. It's completely different now and instead of making kids eat on their own the school has to know what allergy the kid has. The classroom will have a sign on the class door about what food isn't allowed. All parents can't bring Nutella or nut based spreads and snacks, even granola bar with nuts.

    Phyllis,
I wholeheartedly understand your allergy to pepper. My husband has the same thing but he can't eat black pepper and I can't shake the Old Bay Seasoning either because of his problems. I'm allergic to shellfish and much more, so I carry benadryl with me everywhere because cross contamination happens. The only shots I've ever gotten have been epinephrine and it works right then. I love your recipes and all of the 1950 ones, thanks. Ann

Ms. Phyllis, you have probably already done this but for others with life-threatening allergies to seasoning ingredients like you there are great resources on the internet for DIY seasoning blends. You could find your Old Bay (or whatever) and just eliminate the problematic ingredient. Just today I looked up a Cavenders Greek Seasoning to eliminate the cinnamon and nutmeg because hubby hates those and voila...a custom 'safe' seasoning. Mr. Bucky's dessert looked delicious and I know he appreciated it so much because he is such a kind gentleman. Edit: would you consider doing an update on if you are working at selling your home and still moving to Mtn. Rest?

I just made this and it was good. I only used 1/2 C of sugar and it was plenty and a tiny pinch of salt. Also the dumplings that I just spooned up and dropped in fell apart, but some of them I softly rolled into some what of a ball shape on the spoon, they all stayed together. Next time I will add a little cornstarch slurry to thicken it a little more, for my taste. But all in all, dern good!

    • @PhyllisStokes
      @PhyllisStokes  7 лет назад +56

The fan goes directly outside which takes all the cooking fumes out of my kitchen, it's a very powerful fan which is why I almost never have it on while making videos. Why is it crooked - I installed it myself when updating the kitchen and there is a great big stud there which made the fan go in a little crooked. You must admit it is a little unique, right? There is a metal tube that goes from the fan to the outside.

Oh those look so good. I bet most any fruit that is a little tart would make good dumplings.....I remember my Granny made apple dumplings when I was a little girl and they were sooooo good. I should see if I can duplicate those.....she made a flat dumpling and sort of cupped it up and put the apples in the cupped up dough and the apples were seasoned with butter, cinnamon and brown sugar.....oh the memories....Thank you!!! I hope you are blessed to have found all that you are allergic to. My brother was bitten over 200 times by hornets and almost didn't make it to the hospital in time. His wife is a Physician's Assistant with her own practice and she was with him.....she called an ambulance to meet her and she started toward the hospital with my brother.....they were about 15 miles from the hospital and she didn't think she could get him there in time. ....his blood pressure dropped really low and he couldn't breathe....but you know how it goes. Be careful and REMEMBER to use that pen if you need to!!!! :)

Funny you should say about your Mother making the dough for at least two different recipes. When an unexpected visitor came to My Nanny and Granddad's home, my Nanny made three different recipes. She started with the flour and fat - "the Other Butter" ( margarine with 10 percent butter) and water, For jam tarts; then she added some more baking powder and perhaps a few currants. For scones; then she added an egg and a little milk for a few 'Kill-me-quicks' (little cakes, she called 'Buns - well she was born in Yorkshire, England). :) :D
