I miss you and Mr. Bucky. Loved your voice. She is my kind of teacher. She wanted to reach guys that maybe had not cooked but gives ways to save money.
I'm addicted too! Love the recipes and Phillis. She became sick suddenly and had to get part of her liver removed. Her story is in her videos. Rest In Peace Phillis, I feel like I was a friend even though we never met in person.
I’ve been using that same recipe for Meatloaf for many, many years and I think it’s the best. I’m 90 years old now , had two husbands, five children and they all liked it.
Mrs. Phyllis you are missed by so many of us as your followers..You have filled my table with many delicious meals and i will continue with all my saved videos of your recipes..
I just discovered her recently and have now just discovered that she passed. Bless her soul for the sweetness and enjoyment she brought to us. My thoughts and prayers go to her family.☮️
When mom was sick in bed for a year when I was seven I learned how to make meatloaf. The oven would turn off by itself when ready so there was no danger for me. Then dad would take it out when he would get home. I would make it daily if needed or allowed and made it in many many different forms and shapes only a child would think of also decorated and stuffed with all sorts of edibles. I also made a walnut pie not knowing the difference between the two walnuts and pecans...and having to crack the walnuts myself. Even made the crust from scratch. It was very good but too hard to make for a seven year old so I never made it again...
The meatloaf with gravy is actually from the early sixties, my mother made it quite a bit served with mashed potato when I was young. Very good to see it being made again.
Mrs. Phyllis you represent an era in time that is closely becoming extinct. You are a true God fearing Lady and it is a pleasure to have discovered your channel. Hugs to you and Mr. Bucky from Memphis TN

I've been watching your videos for a long time. I'm mostly a silent viewer. You are one of my favorites. You are like family and I wish you and Mr. Bucky were real-time friends. Thank you for all your videos. I watch them all. :) hugs
Yep I recall using that recipe on the Lipton onion soup packets, we loved it and also the cold meatloaf sandwiches on white bread with mayo and slice of home grown tomato 😊
When I was a little girl, my mom would make that gravy all the time. She was born in 1925 and her mom made it. For us it was called, poor man's gravy. A friend called it burned gravy. Now everybody calls it rue. Whatever name, it is great gravy!!
Thank you Phyllis for another video, my mom always made this recipe, except instead of Lipton soup mix, she would dice up an onion, and if we didn't have bread crumbs, she would use cracker crumbs, this is how I make my meatloaf.
💖💖 I am glad growing up in the 70's I watched my Mom and relatives cook till when It was my time to start(11yrs old) I knew how to do it and so far I still cook from scratch. Feeding boys required a lot of cooking real meals. I cook meatloaf the same way. For a Turkey , marinate in the soup mix too and cook, that's all. Mmm mmm good...😂😂😂 so many ways to make
When I was married to my ex husband in 1971 this how I made meatloaf, my gravy I used beef bullion (1 cube) with the butter and flour and water, oh so yummy. my second husband refuses to eat anything with onions in it, so I put onion powder and he has not caught on in 30 years, haha
You've done well since he hasn't caught on yet. Mr. Bucky's the same way about cooked asparagus and yet he'll eat them blanched with a ranch dressing dip.
Phyllis Stokes This is one receipe I must make tomorrow!! It looks yummy,my hubby going to love it..hes been asking for meatloaf for 2weeks.I Love your videos I made your lime jello and it was a hit with the family!! Thank you Phyllis.
Miss phyllis, here in my country we do not have the onion soup mix... too bad... what can I do? i thought maybe one or two beef boullon squares and fresh onions, chopped, and a little dried oregano. Can you think of anything else? Thank you❤️❤️❤️
When I make that white sauce for gravy, I toast the flour, without any grease, or butter. When it is toasted I add butter and cream and a beef boullom square. It comes out beautiful and the golden flour gives the sauce a great flavor.
Being with you in your kitchen is like being with a sister or a childhood friend. It gives me great comfort. Your voice and cadence are very soothing and peaceful. When I first got married 34 years ago 7/31/81, I was a young 20 year old, one of my co-workers gave me this recipe. It was delicious. I think I'm going to make my next meatloaf like this for old times sake. My cooking skills have developed over the past 34 years. But some recipes are fun to revisit. Ms. Phyllis I love watching your videos. You and Mr. Bucky are the salt of the Earth. God bless you.
Miss Phyllis don't let anyone tell you what kitchen tools you should or should not use. Favorite tools are so important in order to make your meals with love. This meatloaf recipe is a winner and very easy to whip together.
Miss Phyllis, we miss you a lot. I loved your videos and the cooking u grew up with. Thank you for all that you have shown us and not just cooking. God Bless and miss you to pieces. P.s., Stephen is doing great with the channel. Love and thoughts.
I've been making meatloaf this way all my adult life, and my mom made it this way, with the exception of that we used day old sliced bread torn into small pieces and Worcestershire sauce is added as well, and we always put tomato paste mixed with ketchup on top the last 20 minutes of cooking & we used 1 pkg onion soup mix for each pound of ground beef. my family and friends love this meatloaf & makes excellent next day meatloaf sandwiches! 😁
I found you by accident, i have been binge watching your videos all day. I really appreciate you and Mr. Bucky, watched how you met video, I thank you for being honest in your faith and a wiz in the kitchen. God bless you and your family.
I’ve been dealing with severe stress and anxiety these past few weeks and tonight it came to a head and I needed something to comfort me so I could get some rest. I thought of Phyllis and her videos I used to watch and hadn’t watched in a while for some reason. These videos are always so calming and I feel like I’m in the kitchen with an aunt or a grandmother. Thank you Phyllis for always making me feel calm and at ease when I watch your videos.
I've been wanting to find a good meatloaf recipe. This actually looks similar to what my grandma has made. So thanks for doing this. Much Love from Tennessee. ❤
I have made this meatloaf and its so good! My grandma showed me how when I was a kid in the 70's, I think she put grated onion in her meatloaf when we didn't have the soup mix. I also use this for meatballs and bake them in the oven, then freeze them so we have them for Swedish meatballs or stroganoff or pasta.
Yummy. I'm so glad Phyllis recorded these videos. I love the video where her green spatula breaks then she puts it on display over te clock on the wall. Hard to give up an old friend.
Phyllis, I have been watching you for a couple of months - I am in my 50's and I am so intrigued with the way you are so systematic with your cooking. Very traditional. It is fascinating to see such regular cooking. That is not an insult but quite the opposite. I cook with spirit and feeling and no recipes. yes, I cook from my gut. I am always intrigued with how women are so conventional with their meals. It is sometimes good for me to see how everyone does it. I love your countenance and your southern demeanor. I am a regular Old Italian girl from New York. Who watched her Grandmother From Naples Italy Cooked like a mastermind. Who would put any chef to shame. I am very grateful for your videos. You are very enjoyable to watch and listen too.....It is very refreshing to see such dedication to your craft.. Thank You Many Blessings and many Happy Meals.
If you want a darker color add some, Kitchen Bouquet for browning. I like this recipe a lot because it's very versatile you can change it up to what you like. I also like mixing all the ingredients together then adding it to the meat, I use milk instead of water and as far as the bread crumbs sometimes I'll use Italian or Stove Top Stuffing herb mix. With the stuffing mix you have to let it set into the liquid to soften before adding it.
My mom taught me this recipe in 1973 last recipe before she died..At 45 yrs old😇😇😇😇😇 TY Miss Phyllis. Memories.. sometimes good sometimes painful. I like thin king of them fondly and you look a lot like my mom in your younger pictures, and you are beautiful now. Praying for your recovery.
I found an ad for it dated 1979. My mom always used A-1 Sauce instead of ketchup and made large meatballs and them smashed them into oblong patties and it was Salisbury Steaks- she baked them in a 9X13 baking dish for about 40 minutes. She made dark brown beef and mushroom gravy to go with them. Also one of my favorite copycat recipes for Wendy's-style chili adds the soup mix to the ground beef before it is browned for the chili--it really does make all the difference!
Oh Phyllis, I do so love your videos! I am a 30 year old girl that loves to cook, and I just adore listening to your stories. I also love your cooking videos- especially the ones where you prepare meals from the 50's and other time periods! You are the only channel I have found so far on RUclips that actually has videos on how to make a "typical" family meal from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. I am just fascinated and I can't get enough! How fun it would be to get to spend a day in the kitchen with you. I actually made meatloaf 2 weeks ago.. haven't had it since my grandmother made it for me as a kid.. and now I wish I would have waited because I think your recipe would have made it turn out better! ❤️
My Aunt Antoinette used to make the best meatloaf that was delicious not, or cold in sandwiches. Unfortunately, I was not interested in collecting recipes when I was in my 20s. I will try this, especially the gravy.
I love watching you and your husband. You have down to earth recipes. I always make meatloaf, baked on a rack to drain off the extra fat. I am going to try the Lipton onion soup package. Thanks for all the work you do in sharing your recipes and life. Hubby and I are also retired. We love watching.
Dear Miss Phyllis, This looks like a really good meatloaf. I will try it after I go shopping. I know how you feel about your spatula. I, too, have dear favorites in my kitchen that have worn well from the work they have performed. Kind of reminds me of poem about friends: Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold. May God continue to bless you and Mr. Bucky.
Thank you so much ms.phyllis im 26 years old and never really knew how to cook that well my mother is a lvn and works night shift so she is very tired when she comes home but thanks to your channel i can make her yummy dinners and desserts! i appreciate you taking time to show these recipes ❤❤
I love watching your videos...I wake up every day and watch a couple of your videos and watch a devotion everyday..you two are the cutest couple ever!!!
I cooked this same recipe from the soup mix for my then husband in 71-72 when he came back from Viet Nam. It was delicious. I just used the drippings from the meatloaf to brown the flour, maybe added a little oil, for the gravy. Thanks for reminding me.
Ms. Phyllis, I have been making this meatloaf since early 70's, I also make large meatball's instead of this meatloaf with the gravy and serve over rice or cream potatoes. My husband and son's have always love this meal. Thanks for your videos, I enjoy them with you and Mr. Bucky. We are from North Georgia.
I definitely remember that recipe on the back of the Onion Soup mix box! I was a teenager in the middle 70's and learned to cook by following many a recipe from the back of boxes and jars. Thanks for sharing a video of yours!
This is the recipe my Mom used, and the one I still use. I know my Mom was making it this way in the mid 60's. I kind of use this as a base and then throw in the whatever i need to get out of the refrigerator. Sometimes grated carrots or zucchini, fine diced green peppers or additional onion, and sometimes instead of using the ketchup I use a BBQ sauce. It is one of my husbands favorite dinners and I love the meatloaf sandwiches the next day(s). Love your channel! Lipton Onion Soup Mix is pretty much a staple in my Mom's pantry. She also uses it in her Pot Roast! She sprinkles it over the meat and taters and carrots, adds some water and/or wine and boy howdy is it tasty!!
So happy that I came across your channel. I remember many of the old recipes you make. I have my mother's old cookbooks with notations in her handwriting that I treasure. Your voice, as others have mentioned, is very soothing. Keep the videos coming, please!
Meatloaf, green beans and baked potato is my favorite meal. Then meatloaf and cheese sandwiches with the leftovers. My husband also doesn't like onions, but I make with anyway since most meals are made with dislikes in mind. Thank you Phyllis for all you share with us!
I have followed this recipe for years...adapted it....added finely chopped celery, no ketchup, and a can of Cream of Mushroom soup instead of water. On top chopped stewed tomatoes. For individual servings use muffin tins and freeze . Wrap each after freezing in freezer paper and bag in a Ziploc freezer bag.......take out what you need to cook. This Lipton onion soup recipe is the best even if you do make your own personal changes.. Thank you Phyllis.
Since watching your channel I have been incorporating your recipes into my dinner routine. My family is enjoying all the new dishes. For this I thank you. 💕🐶💕
I really enjoy your videos, recipes, and anecdotes. I have learned so many tips, tricks, and hints. My cooking has improved. I've gained so much more confidence in cooking. Please keep making videos. You cooking matches what my mother and grandmother had done for years. I can't wait to try gravy.
Love your recipes Ms. Phyllis! You're a wonderful cook and after watching your videos for so many months now; I feel like I'm part of the family. Bless you both and give hubby a hug from me,please?! 😘
This brings back memories, your sister probably like millions of others, got this from an Ann Landers recipe published back then, always good. Thanks Phyllis-Dave
Phyllis, love each and every one of your videos. I love your calmness as I am a nervous Nell, and you calm me down, thanks!!! I am a faithful subscriber and will continue to be.
I found your channel a week or so ago and knew I loved to hear you talk. I looked at your website and was so happy to see where you lived. I live in NC. My son lives in your state. I am very hungry now. That looks so good.
I used to make my meatloaves with the onion soup, but years ago, my husband found a meatloaf recipe using quick oats and milk...that's been our go-to recipe ever since. Love watching you cook!!
I've always used that recipe. It's delicious. I typically by the "Beefy Onion" Package and always have a box in the pantry. Sometimes I mix ketchup and BBQ sauce together and pour it over top the last 30 minutes. It makes a wonderful glazed meatloaf. Sandwiches the next day are Devine!
Phyllis, I have just found your channel & what a channel it is ! I love it, as a matter of fact I have not gotten a thing done this total weekend ! I have used this same recipe for years but your video brings it back to life. I also, am a Christian and love you even more!
Miss Phyllis, I adore meatloaf! I don't think I've ever tasted any variety that I didn't like but this Lipton meatloaf is my favorite!! (I add a little celery to every meatloaf I make for a little extra moisture!). Love you!!
Thank you so much for doing this recipe. My mother used to make this recipe when I was a kid, but we started making another kind of meatloaf many years ago and we lost this one. So now because of you I was able to make the same meatloaf for my son that I had as a child. He loved it by the way.
My Mom always made meatloaf this way when I was growing up. After I married I tried many other ways of making meatloaf, but I have to say Moms is the best. My favorite thing is meatloaf sandwiches the next day.
I can remember growing up my Mom and Grandma cooking that..I have not had it since they passed away..I should try to make it. Thank you Phyllis for reminding me :)
I used to make this meatloaf and the one on the back of the Quaker Oats box back in the early 70's for my husband. You have brought back memories. I also made my brown gravy to go with it. Going to make it tomorrow for Sunday dinner. Thank you.
This is exactly the way I cook my meatloaf. It's on the back of the Lipton onion soup mix. It's a delicious meatloaf. Thanks for showing it to all of us!
That's the recipe my mother always made and I loved it. She only made milk gravy and that was just for when she made mashed potatoes. We normally just put ketchup on her meatloaf. I made it once for hubby and it was a no-go with him. He can tell anytime I make anything with Lipton onion soup mix and never likes whatever it is. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. I'm for sure going to give that gravy a try and will make up the meatloaf and take to the folks sometime for a fun remembrance with them.
About a year ago, I wanted to find a recipe for, Pea Salad. Everyone had huge quantities of peas, lots of ingredients, ect. I ran into your channel, and you did a pea salad for 2. And the ingredients were simple too. Now, like the other day, threw a pea salad for 2 just, 123! One more thing on this, my son n his girlfriend were coming over a few months ago. I was going to throw simple lunch together. They never heard of pea salad so I made a big bowl. They both ate 2 helpings! You sure have some good ideas n recipes! Thank you!
I love that you like to get all ingredients out of bowls..some people waist so much by not scraping out. I use ground turkey since dont eat beef but use similar ingredients except I use vegies to make it more moist.
I'm going to try this recipe it looks good. I was watching an old video of Mr. Buckey being expelled from school and he mentioned Columbia and that's my old hometown. I love watching your videos. You and your husband are so sweet and funny.
This was one of the first recipes I made when I was in my first college apartment! It's easy and delicious! Phyllis I love watching your videos, thank you for sharing with us!
My husband grandmother told me to potato and onion instead of egg and bred crumbs. She would peel the potatoes and onions and put hamburger all through a meat grinder . I just put them in a food processor and add this to my meat .taste great. You can also do the same thing and make sliders instead of meatloaf
It will always bring me joy watching your videos. You have made an impact in my life as many others I’m sure. I’ve learnt so much from you. You were an angel on earth, too. ❤️
Using husbands I pad Mrs. Phyllis; I just made your Salisbury steak meal and he absolutely loved it and I will make it again and again. Delicious! Thank you so much!
You are a special lady and I love to watch you fix y’alls meals!! I make 3 different meatloafs for my husband and myself and this is my favorite one:) I also make meatballs with this recipe. After browning in skillet, I transfer to a deep baking dish, add a mixture of cream of celery soup and golden mushroom soup with enough water to make a gravy consistency and bake at 350 for around an hour xo
I use the mix w/garlic..mustard..egg and Worcestershire sauce and top w/tomato sauce and parm cheese...always a winner...God Bless the onion soup mix...it also makes a great tomato gravy on a roast!!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. I love that you cook real food for real people! I also am enjoying how most of your recipes are perfect for two! I have recently had to start learning to cook for just my daughter and I and your recipes are perfect. We both love watching and making your recipes and it has become such a fun Mommy-daughter time!
RIP ✝️ Mrs. Phyllis. You are a beautiful soul. I so enjoy watching your videos. 😋😊
That is one of my favorite meals. My Mom made that recipe when I was growing up in the 70's. Love it!!!
R.I.P. to a true southern lady.
Dear Miss Phyllis,
This looks like a really good meatloaf. I will try it after I go shopping.
I know how you feel about your spatula. I, too, have dear favorites in my kitchen that have worn well from the work they have performed.
Kind of reminds me of poem about friends:
Make new friends, but keep the old.
I have been using this since the early 80's, it is simply the best recipe there is for meatloaf
One reason I love your videos, you are so well spoken, with perfect grammar. I really appreciate that.
Yes she does.
Simple meatloaf. Looks good. Miss you so much Mrs Stokes.
Love you!!
I love watching you cook. Ive learned different ways to do things, and my food has turned out so much better.
I agree! The coleslaw in the blender trick has changed my life! Genius.
Love her soft voice & thorough explanations.
try the "gotta have something sweet cake," it's delicious
Phyllis, thank you for this recipe and video. It's in the oven now! Oh, and following up on one of your comments... everything's better with butter!
Phyllis , i am from windsor ont canada , i love all your food , You are a national treasure
I love when Grandma’s cook !!!
Thank you.
love watching u and the 30-70's cooking
This is exactly the way I cook my meatloaf. It's on the back of the Lipton onion soup mix. It's a delicious meatloaf. Thanks for showing it to all of us!
Ms. Phyllis was a wonderful woman and a great cook too!!!
What a sweet lady.😊😊
I'm going to try this recipe it looks good. I was watching an old video of Mr. Buckey being expelled from school and he mentioned Columbia and that's my old hometown. I love watching your videos. You and your husband are so sweet and funny.
Enjoyed your Meatloaf Recipe, and Love the Colorful Teapot! Thank you, Phyllis!
Nancy Morrow thankyou
It will always bring me joy watching your videos. You have made an impact in my life as many others I’m sure. I’ve learnt so much from you. You were an angel on earth, too. ❤️
Using husbands I pad Mrs. Phyllis;
I just made your Salisbury steak meal and he absolutely loved it and I will make it again and again. Delicious! Thank you so much!
5 have been using this recipe for years and my family loves it. Joline from Maine
I have used this recipe several times and I always top it with ketchup. We all love it.
I keep coming back to this recipe because it is so simple and delicious! We're fixing this on Sunday!
Thank you Mrs Phyllis!
Thanks again! Meatloaf for dinner tomorrow!!
Oh, just wanted to add I love the way you not only explain what to do but also why you are doing it You make it easy to follow. Thank you posting. :-)
