- Here's a practical example of using geometry nodes to create an establishing shot in Blender and Davinci Resolve. It's easy once you get the hang of it, so I explain what I did to create this quick and dirty shot here.
There is a much better explanation on my Pateon here:

"I'm not an artist, I'm an artisan." I liked that a lot. I'm finding I am definitely NOT an artist.
It took a long time for me to figure that one out. I’m definitely more of a craftsman than and “artist.” Lol!
@@KevBinge IMO you are an artist as well, I love your creativity.
"I'm not an artist, I'm an artisan."......Quite the opposite for me. Somebody's gotta build all this shit. Not everything can be photo scanned. Honestly, I love that there is a creative venue in existence for every interest and strength. It allows for amazing collaborations when warranted as well as singular accomplishment when innovation shows us new and better ways to do something. I love what you do, Kev. Never stop you amazing, sarcastic, artistic devil, you.
Thanks Erik!! I’m an artist with photography but a trade person in 3D now haha. Maybe I’ll use it for art at some point when it gets less busy. Then I’ll be an artist lol!
i feel there is 33.333 % more humor involved, WHICH I LOVE. You are amazing Kev!
Hahahahaha! I’ll take 33.333%. Thanks Nerijus!!
I've learned great things from you. There will be always people who criticizes no matter what. I'm an older person so I learned to filtrate out that noise so in doesn't interfere with my frequency. Keep the good work. You rock.
Thanks Luz! I largely do too but it makes for funny content. Sometimes hitting back is cathartic too 😀. Lately, it’s energy I’d rather focus elsewhere, save for a bit of trolling back in video form haha! You rock too! 🤟🤟
God damn i love the new stuff you've been putting out! Your videos are so clean man they're great. Keep up the great work👊🙌
Thank you! I’m doing what I can 😀
One technique I like to use with grunge is go into vertex paint mode and use "dirty vertex colors" and then use the "vertex color" node multiplied with a musgrave to seperate the textues. This is pretty much the equivalent of using ambient occlusion to drive grunge, except it works in eevee.
That’s awesome! I’m going to play with that in EEVEE. Thanks for the tip!
Instant liked for the concept!,secondary for shining the light upon geometry nodes ,literally, thankyou kev
Thanks Dmitry!!
thanks Kev, another fun and insightful tutorial! I definitely need to get playing around with geometry nodes.
Thanks Will. They are fun and I’ll be doing some more deep dives. Their access to geometry is a bit more than I’d thought at first, which is cool.
Great tips and tricks in this one! Awesome!!
Thanks Julian!!
I'm learning more and more about Blender each day.
Very cool!
Looking amazing 🔥
Thanks Ashish!
"Yea I saw they are all facing down too... thts just stupid" and "Cuz im a G-genius" 😂Great tut, kept me tuned in as im just getting into Geo nodes 😂
Lol! I’d forgotten what I’d said in his one haha! Thanks for reminding me 😁
nice video, thx for sharing! i really need to check out this geo nodes in detail.
Geonodes are fun!!
Excellent thanks!
You’re welcome 😀
Thanks for the tutorial kev.. Geometry nodes are awesome.. 😊😊
Thanks!! They are pretty cool!
Nicely done son! Am I picking up some High Boi vibes? Whatever, love it, you actually are a genius.
Thank you! I just borrow from actual geniuses haha! Have a great day!
Another great one, Kev and some Davinci Resolve thrown in, too :-)
Thanks David. I love Resolve. It’s really fun! I hope all is well with you.
Nice video as always
Thanks!!
Great Job. Thanks..
Thank you!!
Very cool. Looking forward to diving into geometry nodes and making a complete mess.
Awesome!! It’s soooo easy to make a complete mess in there lol!!
u r awesome, this tutorial is an inspiration
Thank you!!
Your content is so crisp and clean.
Thank you! I wish I had time to really push it but I’d never get one video out lol.
@@KevBinge Same though I never get one out anyway. We're still talking videos, right?
Pro tip at 3:25, if you don’t wanna change all 3 numbers separately, click in the top box and drag down across the other two. Then when you type it changes all 3 :)
Thanks! I don’t know why I didn’t do that here...
@@KevBinge no worries, I was just leaving it for anyone who might not know. It’s super handy
Your sense of humour is cherry on cake😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥
Thanks Kavilp!!
:O) well done, great tutorials!!!
Thanks Gary!
Great tutorial
Thanks Christopher!
You are awesome man
Thank you!!
I really liked the energy this guy exude
Thanks!!
I love the Spinal Tap reference at 1:03
Thanks lol! One of the best comedies ever!
You turned that *gully* into a *skully*
Haha! Yeah I did!!
This is so epic
Thanks Darkshadow 😀
Indeed the journey is quite long, seems easy at first, learning basic stuff, kinda gets to some result, slightly proud we've been able to understand all the technicality and spur something out of that wretched mind, but now, and for the rest of eternity, will always be about improving, and that improving curve can go relatively high quickly but then slows down on the Y and takes way more X to it :! Nevertheless, thanks to many like you, and to unyielding resolve and constant determination, some of us manage to rose from the dirt and shine bright toward the sun like a majestic flowers =]
Have a good day !
That’s so true sobreaver! The x is the long tail. The y is he exciting parts. There is way more x. When z comes in it gets really exciting as there are tangents 😀
A 2m Stonehenge! Is that a Spinal Tap reference!!! Cool video by the way
You got it! Awesome! Thanks 😀
What's not to like here. Nothing. #terminator #3dskulls #blender
I dig every pixel of that video.
Thank you!! Always great to hear from you 😀
your render looks like its from the earliest terminator movie ,also it gives me a feel taht it was rendered in like 6 months
I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or a slight?
@@KevBinge take it like a complement coz i like retro renders
Awesome!! I’ll take it! Retro rocks!! Thanks 😀
@@KevBinge welcome , also i don't wanna say this but your channel is a bit underrated , you deserve more attention keep working hard
peace
Thanks! I’d love it to grow for sure and make this more of a full time thing. We’ll see haha!!
I'm trying to do a cavern in in ue with the bottom of the landscape, but the brush only sculpt on the top
Well, Geometry Nodes need to learn how to work because they are new to me xD
Btw. Nice Video Kev ;D
Thanks Dominik. They are very, very new to Blender in this form. There have been addons like Sverchok and Animation Nodes for a while but not built directly in like these are officially 😀. We are all learning now.
@@KevBinge You're right ;D
Total Blender noob, so most/all of this went over my head, but subscribed for the sass! Ooh... Look! Another shiny Blender video!
Thanks!! In time, less goes over your head. When it clicks, it’s awesome!
haha love this
Thanks JasVFX!
hey kevin, I am stucked at a point where after adding point interance node, the gully landscape become full of giant skulls.
Add in an attribute randomize before the instance and type in scale. You can also scale down the original skull and apply the scale too.
@@KevBinge oh..thankyou, let me try. If not worked you gonna help me again😂
🤣
I love terminator. Especially T2
Me too. It’s in my top 10.
Dont worry kev binge,... just turned on notifications so now every time you upload RUclips will spam me....
Very cool! Lots of SPAM! Lol!!
@@KevBinge lots of learning as well !!
Is it possible to learn this power?
Its a meme, hope twas funny, still, enjoyed the video!
It’s a good one, I’m laughing! Thanks!
Not from a Mayan.
While watching this... I turned into the "Mind Blown" gif....
Thanks lol!
like this one
Thanks!
0:32 Sometimes they are made with Arnold's😂😂😂
Arnold’s rock 🤟🤟😀😀
WHen i instance my object the scale is so big and dimensions are distorted even the original object scale is small. And so it ruins the plane I wish to instance, how do I overcome this?
One trick is to make sure that you apply the scale on the objects. You can also add a point scale too.
Faster way to do this is to just use hair particles and set the hairs as render as object and then just pick the skull. Play with rotation and bada boom your done. Still cool to see a nobe base system tho
Pretty much what I did in the gummy candy video 😀. The new node system is really cool and adds WAY more power to Blender, even if a bit more complex lol. Thanks!!
@@KevBinge yeah your control over the scene is much more accurate this way. I need to practice with nodes still. Also loving your channel your workflow is fucking sick
Wow very 💗💗❤💗💗
Thanks Aleem!
Does anyone know how to interpret these geometry Nodes to the current system in 3.0?
Erindale does. I’m staying away from tutorials on Geometry Nodes for a while now until they decide what they really want to do.
This tutorial goes to "11"...
When I want a scene to look Metal, I put in a tiny, hidden Eddie somewhere in the scene before I run to the hills...
You got the Stonehenge reference lol! Awesome!! Yes, I should put Eddie in there too. He’s a real “Trooper.” But only during the Wasted Years. Lol
is there a geometry node to stop the skulls overlapping?
Maybe the newer bounding box.
Any advice to do this in blender 3.o
Yes, ditch the attributes and just use the instance nodes. That’s what they changed. “Fields” instead of attributes for lots of things.
If Blender can focus on procedural "ease of use" and User Experience (UX) then Houdini better watch out! 😃
Yeah, it’s the nomenclature that drives artists crazy. That said, Houdini is built procedurally, and way, way ahead of Blender. The direction Blender is taking away from the 3DS Max paradigm and toward Houdini is very exciting and I love it. They do have quite a way to go but it’s encouraging regardless.
@@KevBinge Houdini is way head with Pixar's Universal Scene Description (USD) too! I believe USD is the future!
It is. Karma runs in LOPS and it can host Hydra delegates pretty well. I don’t love having a separate context for that stuff but it’s not difficult once you dive in.
why the final result looks so blurry
YT compression.
The only was to beat machines... *water*
Haha! Fry their electronics!
7:40 So, you'll be back? :D
Just commenting for engagement so one day you'll be Mr Superbeast. =)
I’ll Be Back! Hahahaha! Thanks Keira!
Can you make a tutorial on Marvel's Wanda power effect in blender
Once I finish watching that show, maybe 😀. Thanks!
@@KevBinge go watch it..its nice
For better experience do not watch its all episodes continuously instead watch maybe alternate day
Thanks! I’ll take your advice 😀
r/titlegore haha jk ;) great tutorial!
Haha! Thanks Noah!
You should do an updated version. It's severely outdated since pretty much all the nodes you use have different names now and for someone new, it will be almost impossible to recreate your tutorial. Just a friendly advise.
I know lol. I was so burned on this when they just changed.... everything overnight.
So:
Artist - ....Artist.
Artisan - Skilled Worker.
Am I correct?
Artesian - An Artist under positive pressure.
Good one.
This is a really cool tutorial but unfortunately geometry nodes have changed so much that I can't follow along.
I know… it’s so annoying to make any Blender content now.
@@KevBinge I can only imagine. The pace of change in Blender in just the last few years has been dizzying.
I care, I really do :)
🤟🤟 Thanks!
Cause I’m geeeenious
*human skulls, rather than terminator skulls
this guy should hire mr beast for making alot of video like this lol
I wish I were as entertaining as that guy.
Starbucks is horrible coffee if you live anywhere but the USA. For some reason Americans think it's wonderful coffee. Europeans, Australians and New Zealanders laugh at Starbucks. There's better coffee in every little cafe.
I prefer LaColombe run through a bur grinder dripped through a Chemex. It’s some of the best. They are great roasters who source the blends worldwide. 😀
Haha I used to edit for MrBeast 😂
Awesome!! He seems like a cool guy.
I am the 4,200 view on a video that has 420 likes
Awww yeah! 🤟
@@KevBinge my life is now complete
Haha Applesaus3... that’s a pretty low bar haha! You’re closer to enlightenment than me 😀
Using geometry nodes for scattering is getting really really old now.
So make a video teaching some amazing new stuff you’ve figured out.
@@KevBinge I can give you an idea, if you can't do it yourself:
"How to make a LOD system for model:
Create new object with one vertex.
Add object nodes, one for each lod level and one for camera. Using vector math, use camera relative position to create a mask from a distance and greater then. Set it up in a chain for each lod level with needed distance. Then separate points by masks in a chain too.
Each separated geometry goes into point instance with lod object as input.
Join them all.
Expose object attributes to be able to use them without modifying graph.
Pro-fricking-fit."
Tested, so if doesn't work, you messed something up. Can be used for each vertex, if modified a little. Frick, you can even build in billboards for lowest lod level. Analyze normals for smart scattering, use texture sample node for pattern. Create camera culling for optimization. Add simplify-mode for speeding up a viewport.
I've done all of this, but ErindaleXYZ even created a nodepack for sale with all of this and more.
Even with a small number of nodes we have, we can do heaps of things already.
YET ALMOST NO ONE ON RUclips SEEMS TO BE INTERESTED IN THOSE.
What, math too hard or something?
I see where you are coming from and won’t take this a a personal attack, being that you don’t know me or have any idea where I’m at in the 3D world. That’s said, I know Erin and he’s amazing. It would behoove you to do some research first before commenting with something that sounds like arrogance. I’ll forgive you that.
If I were to do a video on that I’d lose half my audience in one go. Arrogance about math will ensure you go nowhere fast. Modesty and patience will reverse that. Your diatribe, while slightly admirable for your ambition, is lacking in the fundamental understanding of audiences intrinsic to one’s channel. You’re too close to the core. Step back a bit. Most people in this space are coming to this from almost no knowledge of procedural workflow, let alone the intricacies of matrices, transforms, or even math higher than Algebra 1. Knowing who you are talking to is the first step in forging new relationships and proving that you are a person others would want to work with. That’s 90% of everything in his field beyond the bedroom dreamer.
Why? Comedians do comedy because they’re comedians. You’re good at blender. So… why share awesome knowledge pertaining to that which you are good at by saturating it with that which you are not. Good luck with you.
That’s a matter of opinion, I get positive comments on the comedy all the time lol. It does skew to an older demographic. I see you mean well with this comment though. Thanks for the kind words regarding the Blender stuff and good luck to you as well!
