    "Particle system are dead", uses a particle system to make the hair. Of course i'm joking. This new feature for Blender is sick, i'm already thinking about transformation effects that were a bit tricky to do before. I can't wait for the release of 2.92. You gave me so much hype for geometry nodes

      I was expecting him to make the hairs using geometry nodes on the mushroom as well. Ha ha... But actually this shows that there's the right tool for the right job.

      Particles will be nodes soon enough. Maybe by Blender 3, or shortly thereafter.

      @@DECODEDVFX Particles will stay for a long long long time, not even houdini done away with them because they are incredibly versatile, can be way more performant than geometry nodes, or vops.

    Fuuuuu, in Blender 3.1 everything is different!
    There is no Attribute Vector Math or Attribute Randomize...
    Point Distribute is now called "Distribute points on faces".
    My head is smoking!!

      Lots of AI. GPT for scripts and stories, image generation from that text, near perfect deep fakes for quick fixes to videos, removing objects from those videos, turning the entire thing into a 3d model, and port to vr

      it'll be a lot better once all the attributes are added to a drop down menu. Having to know all the possible attributes of an object is a bit prohibitive to experimentation.

    You can also use the vertx weight by distance and use that vertex group to change the scale, with that you can also use custom curves for the dropoff

    If your shrooms are stick to the geometry closely like a turtle shell; you might have forgotten to move origin point of shroom like me :)

    Looks very interesting, and good job figuring that out!
    I found it very hard to follow. Because: (1) I have Tinnitus, and (2) your voice and music is so similar, that I mostly heared only random noise. Softer music would easily solve this. Besides, we're here to listen to you, not the music :-p

    Hey, i just wanna say that I love this tutorial and as such, I've come back to find it again. It took me bloody agest to find the video because of how it's titled. you could maybe add something like "blender geometry nodes" to the title? I'm putting this in a playlist so I never lose it again.

      I could've used geo nodes for the hairs instead of particles, but the tutorial was getting long and I didn't want to confuse people by explaining a second geo node set up.

    Cool I hope they will add a delay node. It is essential for making it more dynamic. Search C4d delay effector more on this concept.

      @@DECODEDVFX If I may chime in regarding "loud", there are some frequencies in the music which are overlapping with frequencies in your voice. Just EQ the music down (guesstimates, I'd need to see the curve of your recording) in the 360-370 range and the 2000-2100 range. Or ping me, then I'll explain in detail. Great video, btw.

      @@ErikMKeller I think you're right. The audio of the last track was at the same levels as the other BG music, but it interferes more with the commentary. I think it's probably the frequency like you said.

    Awesome tutorial - thanks a lot. I followed your steps, but my empty is affecting the other side of where it intersects (or gets close) to the mesh. Still works well though. Will you do more tutorials on geometry nodes?

    If the Attribute Randomize doesn't work for you - remember to spell scale with a lower case s and not capital! Just spent 10 mins scratching my head wondering why wasn't it working!

      Yeah, attributers in Blender are always case-sensitive.

      @@fakecubed I guess it’s the same reason I love mograph but refuse to work with cinema 4d, the workflow difference between Maya and c4d are way too huge for me to bother learning it, and while I love looking at and enjoying mograph art, I really don’t enjoy making it because c4d

    that was amazing but looks like things are become more and more complex in this field... so many nodes, so many parameters, so many things you need to remember... it is like writing a code in a virtual way... After hours of trying I managed to do it following one by one the steps you did... the next day I couldn't remember even how to start lol...

    hi, great tutorial, could you help me modify this so the 'mushrooms' only appear kind on the points where the empty sphere directly goes through instead of everywhere?

    Clean and easy tutorial! One of the best IMO.
    How would I go about using this for lets say instancing dust particles (in a volume) for example? Or perhaps as an emitter?

      There's a "points to volume" modifier in geo nodes, so you can distribute points in 3d space and swap out each one for a small mesh representing dust.

    Hey decoded, thank you for the video!! I came across a problem actually.. When you change the attribute to vector at 5:49, I can't do it for some reason.. could you help me understand why could that be the case?

      Had the same issue; it ended up being that I had selected Attribute MATH instead of Attribute VECTOR MATH which resolved it.

    If you are watching vid in 2023, Point Instance isn't there anymore. (4:00 of tutorial) You can replace it with Instance on Points, and connect Object Info node to it.

    was following the tutorial, and ended up with the control by the empty being the complete opposite to how it should be. The closer it is to the object the smaller are the particles and when I add the color ramp the particles lose the connection to the empty. Did somebody have the same problem?

      Same here. What I realized was that the particles did not lose a
      connection to the empty. It was mainly affected by the distance.
      I fiddled with 3 things. (1) attribute randomize: tinker with min and max
      then change the (2) distance of the attribute math node
      before the color ramp. (3) Lastly, change object info setting to
      relative instead of original. Hope this helps. It did for me.

    What if I don't want any mushrooms to spawn on the eyeballs?
    What if I never want mushrooms to intersect/overlap even when they are growing/shrinking in relation to the Empty location?
