"I'm an idiot, and I spent like one day with this and I figured it out" is my motto.
I've spent 5 days on this and still can't understand attributes.
"Particle system are dead", uses a particle system to make the hair. Of course i'm joking. This new feature for Blender is sick, i'm already thinking about transformation effects that were a bit tricky to do before. I can't wait for the release of 2.92. You gave me so much hype for geometry nodes
I haven't even scratched the surface with geo nodes yet. So much potential!
@@DECODEDVFX Time to test you then! Make a particle portal using this.
I was expecting him to make the hairs using geometry nodes on the mushroom as well. Ha ha... But actually this shows that there's the right tool for the right job.
Particles will be nodes soon enough. Maybe by Blender 3, or shortly thereafter.
@@DECODEDVFX Particles will stay for a long long long time, not even houdini done away with them because they are incredibly versatile, can be way more performant than geometry nodes, or vops.
Fuuuuu, in Blender 3.1 everything is different!
There is no Attribute Vector Math or Attribute Randomize...
Point Distribute is now called "Distribute points on faces".
My head is smoking!!
_The story of how Blender became Houdini_
I was thinking the same thing, blender is going procedural.
Wake me up when Blender becomes ZBrush.
Still a looong way to go thou.
Blender becoming embergen when
My guess is that you have never used Houdini
"I'm an idiot and I spent like one day with it and figured it all out"
Aah, who amongst us has a youtube channel and makes wonderful renders?
procedural is the future, maybe mixed with some AI.
Now that would be amazing, something like “basic text to nodes” through AI will change everything
@@myndwork yess
Lots of AI. GPT for scripts and stories, image generation from that text, near perfect deep fakes for quick fixes to videos, removing objects from those videos, turning the entire thing into a 3d model, and port to vr
@@abrasmage One day, you will only need to press one button and AI will create whatever it is you were thinking of

“To show you the power of geometry nodes, I sawed this Suzanne in half!”
Great tutorial like always! There is so much potential with geometry nodes, I'm excited to mess around with it!
it'll be a lot better once all the attributes are added to a drop down menu. Having to know all the possible attributes of an object is a bit prohibitive to experimentation.
brb gonna sell this as an NFT.
Get it? Because, you know... Non *fungi* -ble token
Oh good lord, do it.
Trust me, I'm an idiot and I did it, so you can too.
My new favourite motivational line.
Ah, but what if this is one of those things that *only* idiots can do? The rest of us will be stuck!
You can also use the vertx weight by distance and use that vertex group to change the scale, with that you can also use custom curves for the dropoff
Awesome video excited to play around!
thanks Derek. I've hardly scratched the surface with geometry nodes yet.
If your shrooms are stick to the geometry closely like a turtle shell; you might have forgotten to move origin point of shroom like me :)
Man thanks a lot for this, the way you show and tell it is excellent!
exactly the kind of tuts yt drops randomly on me, makes me go brrrr on Blender for a couple weeks, remember I have deadlines and drop it until next tut :P
thanks, gonna try this now!
07:14 - 7:21 You got this line stuck in my head. Great song...i mean tutorial. Keep up the good work.
totally :)
I can't wait to go home put my kids to sleep and go to pc and do this!
Looks very interesting, and good job figuring that out!
I found it very hard to follow. Because: (1) I have Tinnitus, and (2) your voice and music is so similar, that I mostly heared only random noise. Softer music would easily solve this. Besides, we're here to listen to you, not the music :-p
Looking forward to more tutorials! You're amazing!
The different settings on the fuzz lighting was really interesting and nice information I didn't even think of needing, but definitely will.
Hey, i just wanna say that I love this tutorial and as such, I've come back to find it again. It took me bloody agest to find the video because of how it's titled. you could maybe add something like "blender geometry nodes" to the title? I'm putting this in a playlist so I never lose it again.
Oh, this could be neat, especially for scene where make flowers spring to life in like a field maybe?
Amazing, please do more 👌
Thank you, this was a fun project to do on Sunday.
Ahh this is amazing! Finally a good tutorial on geometry nodes! (Any suggestions for other tutorials for this of yours or other content creators?)
Thanks. CBaileyFilm, Miro Horvath, and Sketches For Humanity all have good geo node tutorials.
Thanks for showing this very helpful tutorial and happy blending with blender.
hey this is a really well done tutorial. I haven't dabbled with nodes much because they look pretty intimidating, but this video does a great job explaining and breaking things down
"Particle Systems are DEAD"
"we're just gonna add a particle system"
Nice clickbait
I could've used geo nodes for the hairs instead of particles, but the tutorial was getting long and I didn't want to confuse people by explaining a second geo node set up.
@@DECODEDVFX So you would have manually modelled hairs and instanced them on a huge amount of points?
Hey, thanks for the video! I'm just wondering, is it possible to do it with a realistic growing? Not just scaling, but an actual growing animation on particles?
Cool I hope they will add a delay node. It is essential for making it more dynamic. Search C4d delay effector more on this concept.
Great vid but your music is a bit too loud over ya lovely voice mate!
Noted!
second that. especially in 2nd half - it should be at least 1/2 volume
@@DECODEDVFX If I may chime in regarding "loud", there are some frequencies in the music which are overlapping with frequencies in your voice. Just EQ the music down (guesstimates, I'd need to see the curve of your recording) in the 360-370 range and the 2000-2100 range. Or ping me, then I'll explain in detail. Great video, btw.
@@ErikMKeller I think you're right. The audio of the last track was at the same levels as the other BG music, but it interferes more with the commentary. I think it's probably the frequency like you said.
One day all videos will come with 2 volume controls. One for dialogue and one for background music. I'd always have the latter on zero!
Can we get an updated tutorial with Blender 3.0? I think most of these nodes are going to be obsolete before long.
Amazing job. Your voice over is really well done and the lesson was clear and easy to understand. Didn’t know working with nodes could be so easy to learn. Thank you!!!
You're very welcome!
Thank you , amazing tutorial and well explained!
this tutorial is awesome... from the content to the music, its just awesome
Love it! Great tutorial, thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Thanks for watching!
Nice, clear introduction to geometry nodes, thank you. Maybe lower the background music a little next time though, it's distracting.
Thank you so much for this video! Everything es perfectly explained! Much love!
7:26 perfect rap flow
Great tutorial! I know it's a bit old by now, but I'd appreciate it if music could be quieter in future ones.
Stylish, accessible and weel-explained tutorial, thank you !
I just found the music a bit distracting though...
Thanks.
Awesome tutorial - thanks a lot. I followed your steps, but my empty is affecting the other side of where it intersects (or gets close) to the mesh. Still works well though. Will you do more tutorials on geometry nodes?
Wonderful tutorial!!!
thanks
Wowww I liked how you explained why you were doing what you were doing so we can understand the underlying concepts behind the features
Normally people just tell the instructions without giving any reasoning and I get left having questions unanswered, so thank you
Riiiight. That's why this is so good. Well spotted.
Your videos are all bangers bringing straight fire !
Wow simplier than I thought. blender is amazing.
This is cool to do crass growing effects for animation,(Like a timelapse effect for example)
If the Attribute Randomize doesn't work for you - remember to spell scale with a lower case s and not capital! Just spent 10 mins scratching my head wondering why wasn't it working!
Yeah, attributers in Blender are always case-sensitive.
thanks for sharing the knowledge. I request a tutorial exclusively for attribute nodes. and a humble suggestion to reduce the Background score, your voice is really nice to hear.
I don't normally comment on blender tuts. However, I'm not sure how many people will appreciate the primal excellence of this. You are approaching Alex Alvarez depth. Beautiful. Thank you.
Wow, thanks!
Alex is a solid guy. Super cool in person and a great teacher. That’s quite a compliment.
I'm never even gonna use blender but I still find these types of videos fascinating to watch.
Why aren't you going to use blender?
@@fakecubed I guess it’s the same reason I love mograph but refuse to work with cinema 4d, the workflow difference between Maya and c4d are way too huge for me to bother learning it, and while I love looking at and enjoying mograph art, I really don’t enjoy making it because c4d
Great tutorial!
It magically done! Great tip!!!
Why do I feel like my life has improved so much?
Thanks!
Super informative! Thank you ^v^
It can be more comfortable with quieter music
NOW that I have picked myself up off the floor ................. I'll now give this a shot ..............
that was amazing but looks like things are become more and more complex in this field... so many nodes, so many parameters, so many things you need to remember... it is like writing a code in a virtual way... After hours of trying I managed to do it following one by one the steps you did... the next day I couldn't remember even how to start lol...
And now I want to start playing with geometry nodes :)
One of the best tutorials, nodes are so exciting!
Wow. I love this!!!
Bro wee need more tutorials about geometry nodes
It is math class all over again, I still don't understand simplest things
Brilliant!
Thank you! Can you turn on the addon to show keyboard shortcuts your pressing?
hi, great tutorial, could you help me modify this so the 'mushrooms' only appear kind on the points where the empty sphere directly goes through instead of everywhere?
Clean and easy tutorial! One of the best IMO.
How would I go about using this for lets say instancing dust particles (in a volume) for example? Or perhaps as an emitter?
There's a "points to volume" modifier in geo nodes, so you can distribute points in 3d space and swap out each one for a small mesh representing dust.
@@DECODEDVFX Ah, that's what that does. I thought it was to create points specifically for volumes. Like a volumetric instance per point. I'll try what you said tonight 👍 Thanks
Amazing! 💯
Awesome ,Thanks ..
Hey decoded, thank you for the video!! I came across a problem actually.. When you change the attribute to vector at 5:49, I can't do it for some reason.. could you help me understand why could that be the case?
Had the same issue; it ended up being that I had selected Attribute MATH instead of Attribute VECTOR MATH which resolved it.
@@sloth6480 ooooooo thx
Coming from Houdini I had no idea blender could do stuff like this. I know what I'm doing in the next 3 months. Looks super fun and exciting!
All the possibilities... *mouth drool*
This is just the beginning of the "everything nodes" project too. Lots more coming in the near future.
Love all this. Subscribed 😍
Thank you!
Awesome
amazing
Amazing
Thanks Sir
Great! thanks
I am still so scared of getting into geometry nodes but it is soo cool!!!
Interesting. The last time I did do some modding, was with Unreal Tournament 2004 ... all of those Class Tools are so nice and easy to use. wow
Insane!
If you are watching vid in 2023, Point Instance isn't there anymore. (4:00 of tutorial) You can replace it with Instance on Points, and connect Object Info node to it.
Excellent Work :o)
Fascinating
Instant subscribe within 30 seconds into the video!. Epic!
спасибо огромное. очень полезное видео. отдуши бртауха
Wow Nice one :D
This is so nice
Can you make a tutorial how to make the scene real using octane render please
Is it possible adding physich / force field to scatter objects in geometry node like in particle system ?
- Particle systems are dead
- Uses particle system to generate hair on the mushrooms
Nice video btw, geometry nodes look amazing
Thanks 😅
this was awesome!
Thank you!
I would love it sometime in the future blender would have mograph capabilities as good as or better than cinema 4d r20
very cool
You're awesome man.
was following the tutorial, and ended up with the control by the empty being the complete opposite to how it should be. The closer it is to the object the smaller are the particles and when I add the color ramp the particles lose the connection to the empty. Did somebody have the same problem?
Same here. What I realized was that the particles did not lose a
connection to the empty. It was mainly affected by the distance.
I fiddled with 3 things. (1) attribute randomize: tinker with min and max
then change the (2) distance of the attribute math node
before the color ramp. (3) Lastly, change object info setting to
relative instead of original. Hope this helps. It did for me.
thanks a lot! you have a new suscriber
Thanks for subscribing!
Does blender already have a text representation for nodes? As a programmer and user of VCS, I'd like to have that as an option.
If you can open blender up and do anything other than look confused or overwhelmed, then you're not an idiot lol. I didn't know you could do particles with nodes. I'm probably gonna be using particles more now.
which nodes should we use in 3.1 verson
What if I don't want any mushrooms to spawn on the eyeballs?
What if I never want mushrooms to intersect/overlap even when they are growing/shrinking in relation to the Empty location?
