Great interview Fuzzy, really enjoyed watching this and hearing the insight and inside comments. Having done interviews on the convention circuit, I know some folk can be a pain to interview, especially when they can't/won't disclose certain things, but that doesn't seem the case here. Looks like you guys had a ball. Hopefully you get more interviews which the Marvel guys in future. It'd be great if that relationship nets you an exclusive too ❤
I haven't done a study on this or anything, but I imagine a lot of the time when someone interviews a game developer/producer about their game, the interviewer (and their audience) doesn't really know the product that well, so they ask fairly basic questions, and the interviewee responds with a well-rehearsed answer. And most of the time that's fine, because the people on that channel are learning about the product for the first time via that interview. I have the luxury of having a channel that's dedicated to just one game, and I can assume that most of my subscribers know the basics and so I can just dive into the details, because, well, that's what I like to do :-). The result is more of a "geeky conversation" than an "interview" and that suits me just fine!
I think it would be interesting if you interviewed some marvel writers, seeing what they do to form a run and how that might translate to building a campaign.
I love this interview, thank you so much for conducting this. It's so exciting to hear them talk about the ideas they have for books for years to come. It's nice to know how much love and support they're giving this game and plan to keep giving.
Great interview Fuzzy! This is an unusual request but could you try and interview B. Dave Walters? He wrote portions of the X-Men book (and the Excalibur supplement on the website), so I'd like to hear from him about the game and his contributions. And of course if you can, try and interview the fine folks at the Glass Cannon Network. That video would be a slam dunk!
I don't think that's an unusal request at all! He is actually on my list, as are all the people who worked on the books (Elisa Teague for example), though I confess that the combination of imposter syndrome and being star-struck leaves me feeling a bit paralyzed by the idea lol. CJ was not only wonderful to talk to, but I've been interacting with him for months, so there was a comfort level there, which I'm sure contributed to the overall result. If anyone out there has any experience reaching out to authors for interviews (or being approached as an author), I would love to hear your perspective and/or advice! (LittleFuzzyOnTheDetails@gmail.com)
This was such a cool interview! Would love to see more in the future. Personally, I think an interview with Matt Forbeck would be great, but I'd love to also see an interview with his son. I'd love to know his process when it comes to building characters, how long it takes per character, and how he decides which version of the character he wants to emulate
That was a great interview. Be proud if that is your first one. Great questions asked without it feeling forced or awkward. Thank you for asking about Omega Red and Morph. I would love some more coverage on the 2099 and Age of Apocalypse universes. I want a sheet for Holocaust.
In regards to 'Deadpool Role-Plays the Marvel Universe', that has to be applauded, is the price point. I'm not sure what it retails at around the world but here in the UK, it's cheap as chips, and it doesn't lack at all in quality. I think if sales do well, this is definitely the way to go. Awesome one shot that is just a joy to read, even if you don't get to play it straight away, you should pick it up.
Fantastic episode. I really enjoyed the “Fuzzy” pun. Very clever. Very good point on emphasizing the Multiverse part of this game as so many longtime Marvel fans can question or argue about why characters might act differently in the game vs the comics. And as we all know, every comic writer takes a different spin on the characters anyway. This perception of what established Marvel heroes should act like could be an issue at the gaming table but now can be easily explained away with the world “Multiverse.” There is no wrong way to role play. Brilliant way to game the way you like in an established universe.
Fuzzy & CJ the interview was so good i had to watch it twice love all the information we got about the future of the game. When i was a kid and Saturday Morning Cartoons the 2 Marvel Cartoons i remember watching was the Hulk & Spiderman & His Amazing friends the X MEN was on it twicw.a X MEN favorite ever sense . I got the X MEN book and will be reading it for awhile. Can't wait for Spiderman book to see who in the book and what new rules and powers are coming . Spiderman is the one Hero in the comics that i like most of his foes and if you ask people to come up with their own Sinister Six how many different teams people would come up with.
i have a feeling this wont be your last interview so i have my thoughts but also questions and suggestions in case you invite creators again in future: with errata and henchman and rank progression in website and expansions, here's hoping a future 2nd editions so its easier for people to run if they grab the corebook the first time in my opinion. on reddit someone asked for future expansion and i wanna share it here again that i think are worth to mention: -a DM guide book would be great -Marvel new york version is also something would enhance world building and for people to know where baxxton building is or where fantastic 4 house quarter are (or even hero patrol, i know spiderman is queen and daredevil is hell kitchen, but maybe i dont really know where captain america protect) -with deadpool having a short adventure and with cheap price, i think they can do more and actually utilize duo mode (1 DM 1 Player) where we follow adventure on spiderman or daredevil or jessica jones, or maybe even the punisher. those all are great concept idea for duo mode attempt if they want to so far they only did hydra one shot and its free to download and try, hoping there's more one shot to release in future
Great feedback! I love the idea of a Narrator's Guide - lots of new players coming to the game lately, and any support for Narrators will go along way! I'd love anything Punisher related, whether it is duo mode, solo mode, or a full 6 chapter hardcover adventure ;-) Another Enter-Hydra style one shot would be a great idea. Given EH is for Ranks 3-4, I'd love one for Ranks 1-2!
@@FuzzyOnTheDetails "a lot of new players recently" They released the video guide just around the release of Deadpool and wolverine movie (which by then many people watched the official trailer from marvel official channel which will boosts any video upload into home page) it's great marketing strategy and should have been used that way to promote MMRPG
Former journalist here. Over all, a good interview. Interesting positive questions highlighting the products. My only critique would be you had the project lead on and didn't ask any questions about the negative aspects of the game that could be corrected. For example, why don't we have digital copies of all the maps yet? Why isn't the errata consolidated? How did the core rule book get published with so many errors? Of course, these don't have to be phrased as I've put them, there are positive spins. But these questions would be answered. If they don't acknowledge the things that need improvement, how do we know they are working on the problems.
Thanks so much for the feedback! It's excellent food for thought. In retrospect, I perhaps should have positioned this as a "conversation" with CJ rather than an "interview". I'll give some thought to how I label similar videos in the future. Here's my thinking... I am super-lucky to have an existing line of communication with CJ, so if I have a concern or recognize a problem, I don't have to wait for an interview to communicate it. Most people wouldn't make that assumption of an interviewer, and might therefore think that by not getting someone on the record, or not asking a hard-hitting question, I'm lax in delivering criticism. If anything, it is the opposite - I hold on to the some of praise for the face to face, but hit him with the problems ASAP :-). (not that I have to do that often). Anyway, like I said, great food for thought! I'll think about how I refer to future "interviews" of this nature, and also think about how I can better collect/pass on/respond to concerns like the ones you mentioned. Thanks again!

One question has been bugging me. If Jean is in the X-Men book and it's so comperhensive of their history does that mean there's rules for the Phoenix Force too? I will scream if that's true because when I rewatch the X-Men animated series I love to rewatch both the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix episodes.
Well, get ready to scream! 🙂 There is a section which covers some history and also has rules about how to rank a character up when they become host to the Phoenix Force... And how someone with the Phoenix Force becomes Dark Phoenix.
I am interested to see or hear, is there is a logical way to deconstruct a character profile down ranks, especially to rank 1? Say you want to use one of the character profiles in the CRB or X-men expansion, but you would like to start them from their youth and build them the way you want to into their maturity.
Yup, that's pretty straight forward and relatively easy to do. In most cases, you just substract 4 powers, 5 ability scored and 1 trait for each Rank you want to decrease. You'd have to start with any abilities that would exceed your new, lower rank +3 (since that's always the max), and take out any powers that exceed your rank limitation as well. You'd also have to make sure you don't remove any powers that are a pre-requisite for powers that you retain. And finally, you'd have to pay some attention to your thematic bonus (if any) and make sure you account for that one way or the other. Sometimes its just as easy to start them off at Rank 1, though, and make sure you select powes/traits/abilities that work towards the final build. Either way, it is fun to do :-).
@FuzzyOnTheDetails Onslaught is definitely a rank X type character. I'd start with Professor X as a base, add four ranks of Sturdy, add the trait unusual size gigantic, and then spend the rest of the powers to get Magneto's abilities in there. That would end up around rank 9, I think. That's a rough draft, though.
