- The return of Robert Downey Jr and the Russo brothers to the MCU is just the public face of much bigger chances happening at Marvel. Behind the scenes, they've been quietly firing people at all levels of production. Are they finally learning from their mistakes, or about to make all new ones?

It’s a fun movie with heart. And the people who made it cared about what they were doing. Gender, Race has f all to do with anything. Make something your audience actually wants to watch. And they did.

The problem for me is that they've now switched from Marvel Character draw, to Actor Draw. They will write Doom around RDJ and his character, not the other way round.

This doesn’t change the decline of marvel. This movie is two years out IF there are no delays. This is like when your grandpa had a moment of clarity right before he died.

Delays or otherwise, Kevin hasn't learned a thing from D&W. Imagine using actors as a draw instead of characters and building an overarching story for each phase. May as well rehire Scarlett Johansson as Jean Grey and disregard her Black Willow character that everyone liked.
2 years seems way too short for two huge movies. They don’t have a connected universe. We see characters once and never again, nobody interacts with one another. Everything is a solo project there’s no universe connection

I know it is a "nit-picky" detail, but Disney, the company that prides itself on costumes for characters, sent RDJ out on stage in a suit that looked like a weary mom made from Dollar Store items an hour before the kid had to appear in a play.
The plastic mask was jarring. It all helped to feel very last minute mad scramble to get him there, looking as much like doom as possible instead of looking like Tony stark.

To be fair, they did the same when they did Josh Brolin's presentation as Thanos on SD-CC 2014, despite the fact that the actor had already played the CGI character during the production of the first GotG a months earlier. They just gave him a plastic toy Infinity Gauntlet, when they could've made one looking similar to the one in the movies (they had already showed it as early as in the first Thor).

I think there's more than just money. Not long ago he was shilling some "Eat The Bugs" type of food product. There is certain organization that is pushing Eat The Bugs for the general population. Maybe they have bit of influence on him since he has so much influence to the general population.
@@jessecortez9449 There could be all kinds of things going on. I definitely do not have any great inside knowledge, just what I see and read. But I do think that people are overthinking things. Sometimes it is simple. The overflowing money river that was old Hollywood is over and I am sure that many people realize it. Getting $10+ million gigs every year just isn't going to happen like it used to. At least not in the next 5-10 years. From what I can tell he likes parts in supers movies and he is also not getting any younger. If they offered him a big check to play another character, it is a win win win for him no matter how the movie turns out.

There is no saving the MCU. Disney can put anybody they want into it. The problem is the writing team. You can argue that nobody in Hollywood understands decency anymore and that's true. But the real problem is that none of these writers or producers understands duty and the self-sacrifice that comes with it. Without that, you simply cannot tell a superhero story with any resonance.

Not to mention getting a price of modern Disney movies (over 80mil!?) just for casting RDJ is going to break the budgets like never before.

Heres the thing, even with bringing RDJ back into the mix, who are the Avengers? Dr Strange, Spiderman, and what else, Ms Marvel, Captain Marvel...? She Hulk? Female Black Panther? Iron Heart? Captain African American? We don't care about most of these new characters. It seems way too late to get a group of characters together that people actually like to put them in the next 2 Avengers films

My theory:
In an alternate universe, Victor Von Doom creates a machine that switches minds between him and Stark. The conflict would center around how Victor is frustrated with how Tony only uses his wealth and tech for himself and with this mind swap Victor (now in tony's body) would now have the goal of doing what Tony couldn't but in a more Infamous way (see what I did there?😏). He masters both the mystic arts and technology to his advantage to achieve the "New Mask, same task" story.
But that's just my theory.

I've always like the idea of Sean Connery coming back into James Bond as another character. He would have made a superb M instead of Judy Dench, although she was excellent. He could have also been a superb villain during that era. However, Pierce Brosnan and the rest of the cast and production was already splendid without him. It would have just added to the awesomeness, unlike the Avengers where RDJ and the Russo brothers are 3 weak legs trying to pick up a very broken and heavy table.
Supposedly, Barbara Broccoli considered offering Connery a role in _Skyfall,_ to mark the series’ 50th anniversary, before realizing he would upstage Daniel Craig.
Yea they thought about having him play the old groundskeeper in Skyfall which I absolutely would have loved and completely lost my mind over having grown up with Connery being my intro to Bond.
I haven't heard of any mass layoffs at their studios, nor major firings of their execs in DEI, so I doubt there will be any course correction.

This just makes it more apparent how desperate they are. If they were in a position of strength they wouldn’t be paying the directors and this actor that much along with all those perks
While I have hope that perhaps they're trying a course-correction with the Russo bros and attempting RDJ.........I think my least favorite possibility is an alternate Stark being Doom. They're such different characters...and this means we will never get a good Doom. If he's "not tony stark" and just a new character like Chris Captain Human America Torch Evans, that's a little better but still super bizarre for viewers and requires too high a level of suspension of disbelief...and in that case, RDJ is a bad fit for that character, even though he's an amazing actor. It'd be like hiring Christopher Lee to play Samwise instead of Saruman. It's really unfortunate; Doom is such a great, complex villain and there's almost no chance for them to give us a proper version of him...maybe the movie will be ok, but Doom will be sub-par almost no matter what with no build-up or development ahead.
I'm assuming RDJ has a clause of some sort that "All Dr. Doom merch is of his likeness for the next 10-15 years and he gets a percentage of the sales of all Dr. Doom products"
Yep lol. But who buys Doom merch WITHOUT him wearing his helmet? lol it’s intrinsically part of his character. It’s like buying Darth Vader figurines but without the mask.
Honestly it's too little too late for me. I've completely lost interest in Marvel at this point. Being insulted, belittled and vilified by the writers and showrunners and even actors for 8 years has turned by excitement into disdain. I wouldn't be interested in watching the Deadpool and Wolverine movie even if you paid for my cinema ticket and snacks and drinks at the venue. A complete reset is the only way Disney salvages this franchise in my eyes, but even then I'm not even sure I'd want to watch a reboot if Disney doesn't fire the assholes at the top who greenlit nosediving as many of their priceless IPs as possible.

Deadpool and Wolverine is a good movie. I mean there is a scene where Deadpool himself says the multiverse has been nothing but miss after miss and another one where he says marvel gets desperate and creates huge bags of cash for their ex actors to come back when they aren’t doing so well.

And even if Deadpool and Wolverine is a decent movie, putting a cherry on top of a garbage heap doesn't turn it into a cake. The MCU has more holes than a Swiss cheese and now has to resort to the same kind of character cameos as Star Wars to drum up any kind of interest. And if the actors are the main draw of the franchise, then there's no reason why I should watch the MCU over any other project that the actors have taken part in.
My favourite part of the RDJr reveal video is when the russos say he has to be the best actor in the world and someone in thr crowd shouted " Ben Affleck ?? " 😂

No to Downey as Dr Doom. Has anyone told him he will be expected to wear the mask throughout? That was the problem with Kang being shown unmasked. One screwup and the character is out, instead of just putting someone else behind the same mask.

Anyone else seen the Ghibli film the Wind Rises? It's about a designer's life, his peak, and proccessing what it means to go from a pillar to the foundation of the next generation (to him, but you get it).
Whenever they do this, I wonder if they think about that. About whether the phase they're at is the rise, the level off, and the settling as you become a benchmark TO BE SURPASSED by whomever follows. Just a thought, but some insight would be nice. . .

I want Victor, not evil Tony. If he is Victor, im more on board with that but id still want a different actor in the role. If you gotta pay a guy 100 million, its not worth it. We still havent got a really great Victor von doom in movie form yet.

I don't get why so many people think the RDJ announcement was an apology or admission of guilt from Disney for recent trash. The only thing they'd built up was Kang and they needed something big to fill the void in the story left by him. To me, this just feels like a desperate attempt to build hype without Disney having to do any actual good writing or work. I hope it ends up being good, but I just don't get any understanding or admission of their failures from this reveal.
“New Mask, Same Task” means he’s playing a new character, and going to deliver a great performance
Tony Stark was obsessed with overseeing world peace. His efforts led to Ultron. Similarly, Dr. Doom wants to control the world to bring about a Utopia. Different mask, but in each character's mind, it's the same task. The fact that many people struggle with this concept is already a poor sign of things to come.
Am I the only one that thought the movie was mid AT BEST? The story was just awful and the movie was only saved by the chemistry between Hugh and Ryan. If this is the best they can offer, then that's just sad.
Honestly I don't get the Deadpool hype at all, besides a few cool scenes that total maybe 10 minutes run time, the movies have been pretty mediocre at best

It's a brilliant thing to use to keep it in the fandom conscious. People will be speculating until the movie comes out, talking about it until it comes out. It brings the next few movies deeply into the social consciousness.
There was a what if story where Doom did a mind switch on Stark . Basically they swapped bodies. I'm curious if it is this story they are going with.
We need to wait and see how Marvel does with the other movies and projects before we can say it's gone for the better, if anything I say it's a step in the right direction

@@markhill3858 In 1999, there's not a single superhero movie in the top 10 biggest hits of the year. 2000 had the first X-Men in the top 10, but then 2001 also didn't have any. As you go through the years, you'll find one superhero in the top 10 as part of a varied mix of genres, including Pixar movies, the Lord of the Rings and Mission Impossible, the Bourne movies... Listen, I'm sure Mark is a very nice guy who wrote all kinds of stuff, but 25 years is just off base.
I guess Mark forgot about the Musical craze that was dominating box offices back in the 2000s? Sure, Toby Maguire's Spiderman was great and Kickass was decent, but I don't recall X-men trilogy being anything noteworthy outside of the first one? Seems like an honest and innocent hot take on Mark's part, IMO.
