Great video, super informative! I appreciate you really digging into these new rules, this is immensely helpful to me as a narrator! And thank you for also bringing up your criticisms and pointing out places where you feel there might have a been a better solution. There's always room for improvement, and no rule set is ever perfect... this is why home brew rules exist.
@@nyarlothatep glad to hear you got something out of the video! I appreciate the feedback. And yeah, bringing up constructive criticism is healthy even if you think the book is a home run (as I do). In almost every superhero property, there is a cloning character. Like dupli-kate in invincible. The fact multiple mans powers are handwaved as a narrative power is slightly disappointing. I would have enjoyed a cloning power set to play with.
What if… take: extra limps for the attacks Check illusion power set for the construct (put note that it’s a clone not limb) I think that might be part of the equation but I would love to hear what you got!
Thanks, Fuzzy, for getting this powers video out! I wasnt sure if youd pick my suggestion from thw prior video; much appreciated. Cant wait to get this book myself.
To me narrative powers are hand waving complex things that really feel like they should be tags or traits. My example is Green Lanterns ability to understand languages, it’s just something that makes sense to the concept but doesn’t really advantage the character
I'm glad they added a healing power. I played a lot of City of Heroes years ago and had a radiation powered support character that can fire energy bolts at enemies while also creating a healing aura for myself and any other heroes nearby. Wanted to re-create this character for MMRPG.

The discussion about Sign Language sparks thoughts of (forgive the cross genre referencing) is the language Twi'lek and how spoken language can be saying one thing (your universal translator is translating) while the Twi'leks head tails could be saying something completely different. For this to take a power seems overboard when a tag feels more appropriate.

I think the best implementation of translate powers are to make better versions of animal communicatine and technopathy. With that you could have those powers without the animal type restrictions. For poison powers i might upgrade miles morales venom blast.
The Punisher is a tough one. I've seen some people put him at Rank 2 (since that's where Daredevil sit). He should PROBABLY sit at Rank 3... but part of me sees him at Rank 4. It could be because the Wolverine/Punisher/Ghost Rider teamup in the Graphic Novel "Hearts of Darkness" was one of my favorite storied in high school... or it could just be that as an Italian-Americian I have a soft spot for Mr. Castiglione and for his under-represented brethren (where are Guido "Strong Guy" Carosella and Santo "Rockslide" Vaccarro?)

Fuzz man are there any apps for this game you can have on your phone? My group is going to play in person but we like to use apps in place of character sheets. Mainly looking for a character generator/sheet to use.
Demiplane's website is reactive, and works well on my iPhone. It is designed so you can see your ability scores and damage by default, but can change your view to see the rest of your sheet (Powers/Actions; Traits/Tags; Biography; Journal) You can "click to roll" just like you can using demiplane on your computer, you can track Health and Focus damage, write journal entries, etc. You can rank up and create characters, and I just checked, even the Getting Schooled rules work pretty flawlessly when using my iPhone. The only issue I've seen is that you can't click on initiative to roll your initiative... but I just click on your Vigilance which is always the same number. So not a biggie.
I could see where translation powers could be relevant for: verbal and nonverbal communication with otherworldly NPCs who have had little to no contact with earthly beings (think more along the lines of how animals communicate through body movement, visual cues, chemical signals like pheromones, touch, etc.); and utilizing different mediums of interactions for puzzles and/or riddles (taking how animals communicate as an example) as otherworldly civilizations may not communicate by written or even spoken language so it would stand to reason any puzzles or riddles found would need an appropriate ability set to crack. Just imagine your character lands on another world with a goal in mind but absolutely no knowledge of that world or its inhabitants. How will you survive? How will you know who or what to communicate with? And if you do find some ‘thing’, will you be able to communicate effectively to reach your destination? You may find yourself in a life or death situation very quickly and to no fault other than your own ignorance. If anything, I think this power set gives narrators more freedom to take the proverbial training wheels off from translating everything to players outright. We so often take communication for granted, so let’s see how players react when they can’t by conventional means. You either bring a translator or suffer the consequences of miscommunication or misunderstanding 😂
