    I agree. I haven't ever made more money until I started running my own detail business. Jobs were ALWAYS horrible pay!!!!! Now I make more money than I ever have done with a job. I average out SOOOOO MUCH MORE MONEY per hour in my detail business than even the best job I ever had, which was a great job, however it still doesn't compare to my business. The beauty of being a Capitalist. Business mindset.

    You have a good logic. I also usually charge a set price based on the average amount of time it has taken me to do that type of vehicle in the past. From there I look at the vehicle and adjust price/time required to complete the job. Then like I said I over estimate a bit on the price/time that way when I get done earlier and it costs them less they feel like they got a good deal. What I have learned is that if a person is not willing to give u the money and time with their vehicle in order to do the job right then they either don't want a "detail" they just want a clean up which is not the same at all and most customers don't understand that. If someone really values your skills and wants the job done right then they won't have a problem letting u keep their vehicle for as long as it takes(within reason). If someone doesn't like the price or time that I quote them I politely suggest that they go to a detail (shop) with multiple people working on each vehicle and pay double what I charge. Have a nice day! Lol

I want to come into this industry with the right equipment, techniques, and knowledge. I love it when I see a super clean car, so it’s going to be satisfying to see a dirty car transform into a clean one that is practically eye candy. I’m thankful for the internet because I do not know anyone who details cars for a living. I was wondering if you could sent me a list of all the products I need to get started. I’m going to check out your channel for any tutorials that might be of use. Thanks a lot, much love from Chicago 💛😄

    Very good information and I love the part where you say don’t let them bully you on your price but you also have to think about the wear and tear on your vehicle as well not just your tools. Also, you have to worry about taxes at the end of year to a lot of people forget about that you have taxes to pay on every dollar you make it’s just the way it is, so in all honesty yes, you have to charge a higher rate for the taxes and the wear and tear on your vehicle. You have to understand you have to put tires brakes oil changes maintenance on your vehicle gas in your tank to get back-and-forth to these peoples houses all that Has to be factored in not just your tools With me, I would do a wash and wax for $120 flat rate. If you want your interior done it’s an extra 80 bucks. so in total I believe that is 200. I believe if I have my math, correct I honestly think that is a honest price after you factor in tools wear and tear on your vehicle gas for your vehicle product prices are going up at an all-time high. Everything is going up the wax I used to buy honestly used to cost me 11 bucks now it cost me 15 and some change prices are at an all time high there’s nothing we can do and honestly down here in Florida where I’m at you will sweat your ass off it’s just the nature of the business never short change yourself, and just like this young man has said never let them bully you into lowering your price you know what you are. worth know your work for example my wife works for a transport company. She works in the office I went and talk to one of her bosses. Her boss had told me that she has a Detailing company that comes in and does all her vehicles for $80 a vehicle that’s everything wash wax clean the interior vacuum, she also mentioned that they also do her truck wash wax vacuum, clean the interior for $100. The company also owns a couple of transport buses. She didn’t tell me what they charge to do those but she says it’s pretty expensive. I looked at my wife and I looked at her and I said well they have me beat on the price because I definitely can’t charge you 80 bucks to do a whole vehicle interior and out I’m not working for free. She asked me do you carry your own water tank I said no I’d have to use your power and your water. She said well they use their own water and I believe they use their own power and that’s when I told her if I had that stuff, I would charge you way more than $200 that’s why I only want to charge you 200 for each vehicle but anyway I decided to move on because she was actually trying to beat me down from $80 what her other Detailing company does not worth it know your worth I am definitely not doing a whole car or a van for 80 bucks. It’s not enough money.

    Speaking of underpricing, I was legit just putting myself down or i had a genuine customer, but I spent 4hrs on a Mitsubishi ASX. This was my third car since branching into cleaning or detailing and originally I made a friends only FB post saying "I'll do cars for $40". When I asked this customer (parents of my friends) what I said or if there was a quote, they said $40 but they said it was way too cheap for the work done and I said okay... does ...$80 sound fair? Bloke pulled out aome cash and said "youll get this and thatll be the end of it" I saw a red and yellow thinking ah yeah $70 thats fair. Finished talking, went inside and saw there was $90 instead, so I'm genuinely happy with that. 90 for a touch up clean on a Mitsubishi ASX, especially as a new aspiring detailer was a great start.
    I reckon charging a flat rate of $120 for CX9/4BYS is fair, 150 is soiled and muddy or half a biscuit factory in the back seats

    • @wilsonautodetailing
      @wilsonautodetailing  7 лет назад +6

      Absolutely! That's certainly a viable option, I would just be careful in that giving flat rates can be difficult because not all cars are equal in condition, so you may charge 20 dollars for a 30 minute job one place, and a 2 hour job another place, so I would make sure that there is a stipulation in that flat rates can increase with excessive dirt... great question!

      Wilson Auto Detailing I've got to say your prices shocked me. I live in upstate New York and pretty much charge double what you do. I do this on the weekends and I pretty much have a job both days every weekend but I want other ways to reach out to people because I can do it at night was wondering if you could help me Facebook has been very helpful

    • @wilsonautodetailing
      @wilsonautodetailing  7 лет назад +3

      hahahaha understood! My prices are based on a clean car, in other words, those prices are a "bottm dollar price" or a "starting price" so that is simply a base line, add anywhere from about 50 to 100 dollars to those prices, and that is going to be the standard detail pricing job, but yes it is going to vary based on where you live and what your world looks like. And yes facebook is a great resource, what exactly are you needing help with?

  • @alexbryan9716
    @alexbryan9716 7 лет назад

    I usually over estimate based on the amount of time I know I can complete the job in....then if it takes less time to complete I adjust the price.

    Hey Luke! When you offer an exterior wash, do you use a spray wax or liquid? I’m starting my business out and trying to figure out what to offer here in NY 😊

    • @dbrau10
      @dbrau10 4 года назад

      I do a "maintenance wash" which is just a thorough exterior wash including door jams and wheel wells, tire dressing (and sometimes a very quick vacuum and windows depending on the client). My "maintenance detail" is all the above plus a sealant application and a little more attention to the interior. Hopefully this helps!

    So hourly rate can be a little off.. Because of getting supplies together, mixing, set up, break down, washing things excetera excetera.

    I have a price worksheet. And then vehicle sizes effect percentages. Coupes 80% sedans and small crossovers 100% trucks 120% and large suvs 140%. The percentage is put it for each individual 'result produced' idk if that makes sense

    I would think,after doing 6 to 12 cars,your own,do some relatives cars and different types of vehicles,sedans,coupes,mini vans,and pick ups,you'd get an idea how long it took and the other costs,so you could actually quote jobs.

      make a google spread sheet with the date you bought it, how many/what types of cars you detailed, and the date that you ran out, then you can see how long it lasted, and how many cars you detailed with it, and what kind of cars they were

      You need to put into factor that all vehicles are different some people might have kids, pets, go to the beach possibly, be using it for camping or work excetera and the car can take three times as long as a car that's only used for basic things like going down the street or just putting around town.
