This was so helpful PAN, thanks so much. The marketplace is confusing, but your straightforward method gives me clarity. The big takeaway was the difference between waxes and ceramic coating. I get that, but I still don't quite understand what you mean by "Warm Glow". I know the warm glow on antique furniture with paste was vs sprayed newer furniture. In addition, I am not sure where waxes play into this. I know that one should not wax over a ceramic coating, but it seems like I watched on another channel where the car was waxed first, then coated with ceramic. My biggest concern is a coating that will handle the frequent use of a car cover for my daily driver that will not be garaged. During the day, it must sit in the sun if parked in the rear, but in the front, there are shade trees with all of its sap, pollen, and bird droppings. Moreover, I finally realized that a truly "waterproof" car cover is dangerous because while it protects from rainfall, it won't protect from dew, or rising moisture from cement, blacktop, or gravel driveways and streets. The covers can trap moisture under the cover. Can any ceramic coating counteract this problem? On weekends, it probably won't be under cover, as I am driving it more, so UV ray protection becomes important for the body, along with an insulated windshield pad to protect the dashboard. I finally ordered a "water resistant" cover that breathes, to allow moisture to escape. I understand It is also important to remove the cover in hot weather if the sun comes out following a rainstorm. I have seen the "blushing effect" resulting from the sun baking the chemicals in the cover's underside to the paint from a guy's RUclips channel. He faulted the car cover company, but a user pointed out that he failed to remove it after rain storms. All that to say, I need a formula that is easy to apply, slick enough to withstand car covers that may shift with the wind, and protects against the sun, and any moisture that might seep through the surface of the cover while I am at work as I don't commute by car. I think a video on coatings and car covers would be useful.
Hey Pan! Just bought some GTechniq CSL and EXO top coat for my full size F350 pickup. Put a coat of Optimum Gloss Coat on 3 years ago when I bought the truck and have used various products to help maintain it. What I enjoy about your channel is your thoroughness, attention to detail and honesty. I have no illusions about driving into a brick wall and a paint coating saving the body of my truck. Always enjoy your videos, keep them coming! At this time, the number of car care products is absolutely staggering and hard for the non pro to keep up.. so you really help out with that.

I’m a complete novis when it comes to modern methods. Of course I used the bucket and sponge method until I was about 50 years old. Then I started taking my cars to the car washes. I haven’t washed a car since then. I’m retired now and 80 years old, and the new methods excite and amaze me. When I saw this video, I jumped over to the web site for the top rated ceramic coating and bought a kit. My car is relatively new (an all electric Ioniq 5), but in April I had it ceramic coated with a spray product from Walmart. It has a life expectancy of about six months. This is July 29th. Can I use the more protective coating now or should I wait until October? I’m getting ready for my first foam car wash. The temps here have been too high recently and I have direct sun on most of my property. That has delayed my foray into the world of DIY car washing. I have very much enjoyed your videos. Thank you for being so informative .
Awesome! And to give you an even better understanding of the process, you should watch my ceramic coating application tutorial. It’s the most popular ceramic coating application tutorial on RUclips with over 4.1 million views. Here: ruclips.net/video/byKcYsEyWGk/видео.html
Thanks Pan for another very informative video! My biggest takeaway is that there are coating options out there that I could feel confident in applying to my own vehicles. One additional question though. If you’re a person that takes care of their vehicles and regularly maintains the ceramic coating how do you know when it’s time for reapplication? With routine maintenance you’re always going to have good water beading/sheeting performance, right? Just curious. Thank you again for all the dedication you put into your channel! 😎

Hi Pan - Thanks for the “master class” in ceramic coatings. Most of the information had been covered in your previous videos, but this was a great review / refresher. Keep up the great work!
I have never heard of Xzilon so I have no advice for you. Perhaps reach out to the person who installed it and ask them how you should care for it. Normally, a good detailer explains the maintenance of the product he applies to his customers. Communication is important.
At age 76 and with a factory fresh GM finish, I'm going to go with the Pro Application followed by personal maintenance and the silica spray sealing. Thank you so much for the informative video.

@@PanTheOrganizer I'm not certain how I discovered your channel. I've had this video marked for a while and just got around to watching it. I'm certai it came up as a recent item in a search for "ceramic coatings."
One of my friends brought me Avalon King to apply on his car for him. I did a full iron removal and clay bar process, followed by a one step light polish and IPA wipe on his car before the application. Avalon King is extremely easy to apply and has some scratch filling properties. However, I find that it loses its water sheeting and water beading ability earlier than Gtechniq. I think they may have sacrificed durability for ease of use.
@@MikeSmith-fq5dv Iron flakes off from vehicles and deposits itself in the paint (and other surfaces) of your car, iron also rusts when exposed to water which causes your car to look horrible and orange. The “bleeding” purple you see from iron removal products is the product reacting with iron, it makes it really easy to get rid of those iron deposits. Clay bar is the next step up in terms of surface contaminant removal, tar and other surface contaminants might not be removed from the chemical spray, so after cleaning the car extensively we apply a clay bar and rub it over the surface, surface contaminants get stuck inside the clay bar and are pulled off of the surface. It’s important we then polish to remove any scratches or swirls that were applied in the process, before then applying the coating. Tl:dr; Surface contaminants have to be removed before applying ceramic coating, otherwise you lock these contaminants into your paintwork and the coating won’t provide the desired aesthetic effect since you’ll see all the surface damage and contaminants beneath the coating. Iron removal and clay bar gets rid of these contaminant.
Great, informative video, Pan. I was particularly glad to hear your professional opinion about graphene coatings versus ceramic coatings. The main point I gathered from what you said is that there isn't yet a long enough track record for the graphene coatings whereas there is a well-established track record for ceramic coatings which have been perfected over the years and made easier to apply. Let's say I have a 3 to 5 year ceramic coating applied to a brand new car. At the end of the life of the ceramic coating, do you go through the same steps - wash, clay bar, paint correction, and then new ceramic coating? Is it hard to get off the remnants of the old ceramic coating in order to prepare the car for a new ceramic coating?
Exactly. When you get to the end of your coating’s life cycle, you would fully remove it through washing, decontamination, machine polishing, IPA and then apply the new coating.

AvalonKing didn’t have a topper at the time, but they since released one and I reviewed it in this video: ruclips.net/video/li-H4JUQHf4/видео.html Thanks for the kind words !! 👍🏻
Great detailed info. Thanks. If you need to top these up every three months, then why not just use a spray coating every three months instead? Like a tw hybrid solutions ceramic coating?
I got the 303 graphene coating and applied it to my car after a thorough wash and clay...it literally took me like 25 minutes to do. Very easy and it's holding up very well. I don't see the need to use ceramic coatings anymore. I think they are better off used on leather seats and interiors now.
If you're talking about the detail sprays, you should be doing that after every wash regardless of what coating your using. Outside of that they are far superior to any spray on coating in every way. In durability, hydrophobicity, look, and they also have self healing properties. That last part is in response to things like paint swirls.
Just ordered the Adam’s graphene ceramic coating spray and graphene detail spray to touch it up. Dmitrys Garage tested it and it enhanced gloss and lasted over 100 basic washes
I had my car pro coated and it took the stupid dealer one wash to put swirls in it. Now that I've been seeing your videos for more than a year I can say that you have given me the confidence to do it on my own moving forward. Key to paint correction is to practice on old cars lol
Thanks Jose! I like to empower my viewers with the knowledge and confidence they need to tackle detailing their own cars. It’s so fun to do things yourself!
Thanks for this informative vid, Pan! The detailing industry has come such a long way. I remember when Carnuba was THE thing! Quick question: Is ceramtic coating safe on PPF? I have PPF installed on my hood and rear bumper and was wondering if this would be safe to use on top of it. Cheers!
Go for carpro skin, it is designed for ppf and vinyl. I think gyeon have a similar one as well. I went for carpro skin on my ppf 6 months back and so far so good.
@@georgebugarin1078 it does, but skin is developed so it can be removed without polishing as self-healing PPF shouldn't be polished. Maybe cquartz will give better protection, but it will be hard to remove if you want to remove before reapplying several years down the line.

This is great, watched the whole video. Question - I heard there's a difference between ceramic coatings that come in glass vs. plastic bottles. Is this true? I recently applied 2 coats of Turtle Wax ceramic spray. Is this not a real ceramic coating? Thanks!
"Real" ceramic coatings are the ones in glass bottles. They are the ones that last for many years, but they also cost more, and take more time to apply and are harder to apply. Ceramic spray (also known as silica spray sealants) typically last 6 to 12 months, so not as long as their glass bottle counterparts, but also the sprays cost much less, and are easier/faster to apply. That doesn't mean the sprays aren't good. They are great, but for their target audience. But they're not as durable as their glass bottle versions. So you have to see what your budget and experience level is, to make the right choice.
What a paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaantastic video, I love avalone king, been using them for over a year now. My next video has avalone king use in it on a dully. You are the best in explaining everything in the videos you do. Keep up the great work you do us!!
Awesome video as always, Pan. I'm a huge fan! Could you talk about the disadvantages and any downsides of putting on a ceramic coating? I imagine fixing scratches is a lot harder because you need special compounds and techniques. Cheers! 🍻
Thanks! I appreciate your support. :) There aren't many disadvantages of ceramic coatings really, other than you have to be more careful about water spotting, hence why most of them you can get the appropriate top coat to put on top, or use a highly sheeting coating like the AvalonKing, which sheds water quickly. Other than that, I mean you truly get the best possible protection: - best gloss - best slickness - best UV protection - best durability (years vs a few months for regular waxes and sealants) - best chemical resistance (industrial fallout, road salt, bird droppings, tree sap, brake dust, etc) - best hydrophobic properties (water beading and sheeting) - self cleaning properties (car is a lot easier to wash during maintenance washes) You absolutely have to watch a super popular video I made about the differences between waxes, sealants and ceramic coatings here: ruclips.net/video/Yxz3zSVIm-g/видео.html

I have a question. I live in Winnipeg and winter is coming I also don't have time to do all the prep work before adding a ceramic coating. Would it be okay to do the coding without all the prep work? Of course I'll wash the car but past that would it be damaging to my paint work to seal contaminants in since they would be there anyways?
If you have any existing protection like a wax or sealant, you ABSOLUTELY have to do all the prep work including polishing the surface in order to ensure 100% removal of that old protection before you apply a ceramic coating. Those need to bond directly to a virgin clear coat. Ceramic coatings are no joke. They last for years. But you need to soend time for the initial application. If you don’t want to take the time, then stick to using traditional waxes or sealants. No real prep work needed for those, but you only get a few months durability. There are always tradeoffs in life.
Hey thank you so much for replying!! I have a 2018 sorento. It's never been waxed before. Other than washing it at the car wash and spraying the turtle Wax spray let's say I assume washes off with every wash? Would I have to count that as a coding to be removed?

I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. A new car is never new until it's properly detailed. - at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example. - vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc - vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements - at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches - at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery. It's crucial to remove any previous protection before you apply a ceramic coating, as coatings need to bond directly to a virgin clear coat. If you only plan on applying a regular carnauba wax or paint sealant though, you could decide to skip machine polishing, as those protectants can be applied over existing protection and it's not as crucial to prep the paint as well. Shout out to my man Pan for having such a positive, sharing, caring presentation. Man, I smile after your vids and jump onto looking on Amazon or other with visions of slick, beautiful cars and cleaning them up. What are your feelings on graphene vs ceramic vs a mix of both?
All graphene coatings are actually a base of ceramic coating with reduced graphene oxide infused in them. So regardless if you pick a graphene or ceramic coating, they are near identical in performance. What matters most is picking a coating from a reputable brand.

Great video Pan!! It's great to clear up some of the confussion over ceramic coatings. They are awesome products, it's a shame some companies and installers, gave them a bit of a "snake oil" reputation due to false claims. About scratches: Gtechniq actually states in it's FAQs that although the coatings on their own are very hard, 9H for Crystal Serum Light shown here, when applied to a panel the coating only adds 3 to 2H to the original clearcoat hardness. Still, I think ceramic coatings do prevent scratches, not in the way most people think (i.e. taking a key, knife, rock to the panel), but in an indirect way as the car is easier to clean and dry meaning less rubbing/touching is required inducing less scratches. Also, I hoped you touched on the top coats, as I find people confused about why should they apply (and more importantly, buy an extra product) that adds hydrophobic properties and slickness...when the ceramic coating is already supposed to do that. Cheers!

Not recommended, as the PPF will have a hard time sticking to the surface. Always PPF first, and then the coating on top. Plus you won’t get the benefits of the coating if you apply PPF on top of the coating…
Hi Art! It depends if the specific ceramic coating you are using can be also applied on glass or not. There are even glass specific coatings that exist. I highly recommend that you watch a video I made about glass sealants here: ruclips.net/video/IEIlHZ2D4ig/видео.html
AvalonKing says you don’t need one. Out of good practice though, I still recommend that you apply a silica spray sealant once every 2-3 months to maximize the properties and durability of the coating. Watch my full AvalonKing review/tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/Rgli6VNLsK4/видео.html
Hey Pan! I have a 25 year old pampered vehicle that has grown used to the P21 S line of paste carnauba, cleansers, wheel cleaners and anything else that is associated with them. I winter the car after fuel additives, tire maintenance and lifting on GoJax casters, covered until spring. I usually put about 1000 miles on it annually (spring/summer/fall- still out w/this warm weather) In anywhere from 10 to 15 outings (rides, car shows, etc.) After watching this ceramic show, I'm seriously considering switching out the P21 lineup and going for it. My quandary though, is sort of, if it's not broken, don't fix it. It always looks great because of the muscle I put on it... trigger fingers and all! I'm also a creature of habit. As perfect as it is though, I've only won one car show, which was a local event. It has never won a Concours which is my ultimate goal. So ... wondering ..... continue w/wax, or make the conversion? Will it make the difference?? ....hmmmmm.

Then over the last 12 months I have watched nearly everyone of your videos, and purchased many products based on your recommendation, including this Armor Shield which with the discount only cost me £40 as I’m in the UK. Your style of creating content is easy to follow which is why I trust your recommendations. I do have one question when using the Armor Sheild, can this be applied to Xpel PPF? Thx Adi
You wouldn't apply a wax on top of the ceramic coating. You would be masking the coating's superior properties and the coating will end up rejecting the wax anyways. Ceramic coatings are a much better form of paint protection, and last for years compared to a few months for regular carnauba waxes. For maintenance of a ceramic coating, once every 2-3 months, you simply use a ceramic spray to ensure proper performance and optimal durability. I have a tutorial on the simple method of doing a maintenance wash on a ceramic coated car here: ruclips.net/video/IqIW78FmRYU/видео.html

Thanks! This video gives me the confident to try and apply ceramic coating.

You would know when you arrive at the end of the coating’s durability claim. Even with toppers, you will see a noticeable change in hydrophobics.

I have never heard of Xzilon so I have no advice for you. Perhaps reach out to the person who installed it and ask them how you should care for it. Normally, a good detailer explains the maintenance of the product he applies to his customers. Communication is important.

Whats iron removal and clay bar process exactly?
As far as I know, you have to polish before reapply, but hopefully Pan can give us a better answer.
Exactly. When you get to the end of your coating’s life cycle, you would fully remove it through washing, decontamination, machine polishing, IPA and then apply the new coating.

@@davidcastellanos2492 You are good to go with that...no need for an expensive ceramic coating.

@@PanTheOrganizer Thank you!

There aren't many disadvantages of ceramic coatings really, other than you have to be more careful about water spotting, hence why most of them you can get the appropriate top coat to put on top, or use a highly sheeting coating like the AvalonKing, which sheds water quickly. Other than that, I mean you truly get the best possible protection:
- best gloss
- best slickness
- best UV protection
- best durability (years vs a few months for regular waxes and sealants)
- best chemical resistance (industrial fallout, road salt, bird droppings, tree sap, brake dust, etc)
- best hydrophobic properties (water beading and sheeting)
- self cleaning properties (car is a lot easier to wash during maintenance washes)

Since you subbed, let me officially welcome you to the Pan The Organizer family! How did you discover my channel by the way?
Awesome info. Just bought a brand new Tacoma, live in Hawaii (sun, rain and some salt air) and will not be garaged so was needing to be educated on much needed ceramic coat. Totally found it here. Everything you need to know to make an informed decision. Not sure I'm going to pull the trigger on the DYI (pretty nervous 1st new vehicle in 25 yrs!!!) but I might after I watch some of your instructional videos. Thanks for sharing with we DIY peeps

A new car is never new until it's properly detailed.
- at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example.
- vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc
- vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements
- at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches
- at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery.
I explain all of this in this popular video: ruclips.net/video/QgoyrC-5CMc/видео.html
So you can better visualize the new car prep process, here are the steps I perform on a brand new car from two of my customers:

Have been considering trying the serum light as it has long durability. Longer is usually easier to upsell
Thanks for the kind words and positive feedback Damien! It motivates me to continue producing great content for you all. I really try to make detailing easy to understand for everyone, beginners and pros alike. What's your favourite video on my channel so far ?
Shout out to my man Pan for having such a positive, sharing, caring presentation. Man, I smile after your vids and jump onto looking on Amazon or other with visions of slick, beautiful cars and cleaning them up.
What are your feelings on graphene vs ceramic vs a mix of both?
All graphene coatings are actually a base of ceramic coating with reduced graphene oxide infused in them. So regardless if you pick a graphene or ceramic coating, they are near identical in performance. What matters most is picking a coating from a reputable brand.
Master class indeed.. thank you

Good video my friend greatest car detailing. What is the better ceramic coating right now?
All my top picks are in my popular annual car detailing products awards here: ruclips.net/video/LkD22UGujmw/видео.html
Cheers!
Thanks Mati
Applying the ceramic coatings, was very informative

Hello from Montreal!! I really love your videos and you do an amazing job on all the details and info for the the products. Gros merci encore une fois!!
Merci Philippe! Comment as-tu découvert ma chaîne?
@@PanTheOrganizer Salut, j'ai découvert ta chaine en faisant des recherches pour commencer a faire du " Detailing " pour mon Optima 2013 qui en avait vraiment besoin...lol.
Thx Pan, well done, I'm new to the channel & glad to see a fellow local, French Canadian, Greek be so informative, detailed & entertaining.
My question(s), I want to ceramic coat a brand new vehicle, I presume I can skip most of the prep work? Please advise.
2. I also want to PPF, my lower panels, should I do the ceramic, pre PPF, please advise
Merci in advance.
Thanks Paul! Welcome to my channel.
1. You still need to go through proper paint prep steps. Here’s what I do to a brand new car freshly delivered from the dealership: ruclips.net/video/tjJPcdCUaK8/видео.html
2. You would have the PPF applied first, and then apply the ceramic coating on top.

@@PanTheOrganizer Thanks! I've just had my car professionally ceramic coated using 'Beads HDultra' so did a quick YT search on ceramic upkeep info to compare it to the advice i was given by the company that did the work. Just really to keep myself fully informed as much as possible. Yours was some of the best info I found. Much appreciated.

Is it possible? If I want to apply graphene ceramic coating first and after that PPF will be installed, i want to do that.
So is it possible or not?
Not recommended, as the PPF will have a hard time sticking to the surface. Always PPF first, and then the coating on top.
Plus you won’t get the benefits of the coating if you apply PPF on top of the coating…
Great video, extremely informative thank you very much. Can ceramic be used on your windshield?
Hi Art! It depends if the specific ceramic coating you are using can be also applied on glass or not. There are even glass specific coatings that exist.
I highly recommend that you watch a video I made about glass sealants here: ruclips.net/video/IEIlHZ2D4ig/видео.html

Do you need a topper for the Avalon king coating? If so what do use?
AvalonKing says you don’t need one. Out of good practice though, I still recommend that you apply a silica spray sealant once every 2-3 months to maximize the properties and durability of the coating.

@@PanTheOrganizer thank you Sir!
Will it make the difference?? ....hmmmmm.
Love the content, just bought a 2022 saleen and I feel like I’d still screw it up myself even with you making it look and sound easy lol

Great video Pan. Thanks for all the info. My worry when it comes to ceramic coatings is removal. How difficult is it to remove? What steps are required? Does it remove completely? Thanks.
That question gets asked often so I plan on releasing a special video on that topic in January. Stay tuned!
Hey Pan... Excellent video. Just needed a confidence boost to start offering this service for my business. -Joe
Thanks Joseph!
Thanks for the video. I didn't know how to maintain my ceramic coating. I had my 1992 Nissan P/U repainted and used a ceramic coating after the clearcoat cured to preserve the new paint and it looks showroom new.

Used CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 a year ago and it has held up very well. I use CARPRO Reload Spray after washing. The shine is as good today as when i coated it a year ago.
Another great video, Pan, I am picking up a new 2023 Corvette, I bought all the carpro products you recommended in your video on carpro. I also bought some Ammo products, one question: which ceramic coating would you use being a beginner as me? would you use the carpro ceramic in this video?

Can you still wax your car with with the ceramic coating on your vehicle, or is this defeating the purpose? Thanks for in depth vid. Top notch!!!
