Great advice, even for a guy like me who sometimes forget the basics of obtaining customers when times are slow, your right little meet and greet of the people near me is a good thing nothing wrong with some real hustle on a daily basis. Sometimes hearing from others is a good thing helps to keep us focus. Keep up the videos like this!
Luke......I'm a lot older than you but I have to say, that was some very good advice. I started in 1982 when there was no internet. Using business cards and flyers to start is a must. You have to be aggressive and learn how to talk to people you don't know. Pick a neighborhood where you won't find old Chevys on blocks in the driveway with spider webs underneath. Go after new cars in an upscale area if possible. Most don't need a good cleaning. Easy money.
Thinking of starting my own detailing gig on the side. Very informative man! Your spot on with the living through the internet and what not. Love the passion you have dude! Keep it up man. 👍👍
Some helpful tips. Pass out business cards, post cards. use some sample images before and after pix for your website/facebook, post them and tag your friends to share... I have friend who lives in California and his business went from 5 to 40% more business.... good vid luke.
Very knowledgeable and great advice for running your business..I've run my own business for almost 40 years..not detailing but most businesses have the same basic formula... something else you could teach young detailers if you haven't touched on it is not just the price of your products for profit margin but also time spent...finding balance between quality work and moving vehicles out..when to say when....it's ok to be a artist but most artists die poor...great videos..maybe you could do a video on the difference between working with metal as opposed to fiberglass..alot of Vette people out there that would like that...
Luke!... dude thank you! You are the man! You're highly underrated IMO, but you're definitely helping me with my business that I've started which is mobile, but currently I am looking for a property to open up my own shop. However is there a way I can PM you? I've got some other questions I'd like to ask personally if not I totally understand an just search for more info no biggie, anyways god bless my friend.
good tips. not doing advertising right now, especially going door to door or crap on people's cars Which I hate myself. Just doing word of mouth for something I like doing, and just a side thing to my/a real job in the medical field. it's relaxing/rewarding and people are pretty happy. I did do Business cards...Cheap stuff...and people-friends/co-workers, really like them.
Awesome video thanks. Do you have a video showing how to do a complete car wash. What steps and methods and products you use etc... Do you use a power washer? thanks
Mark H I would also like to see that video. Maybe also include if I were going to paint correct, polish and wax that same vehicle do I need to strip off the old wax and the basic steps in between on how and what products to use. If it takes a whole other video then thats cool I dont want to hijack Mark H request.
Yes Henry, I fully agree. Also, Do you clay, then finish polish/buff, then wax? or just finish polish with buffer? And do you have a vid on cutting and buffing for paint correction? Thanks.
Check out my video that is about optimum no rinse wash and wax, I show a lot of how I wash cars in that video, And products that I use, I don't carry a pressure washer unless I know that I will absolutely need one but that is extremely extremely rare!
I want to create some flyer so I can pass around my neighborhood and local stores. What would be some easy details that I can offer because I don't have all the tools yet for full details, but I do have some stuff.
If you’re just starting - how would you have a logo already? What if you don’t know what your company name will be yet? I’m wondering about this suggestion or from the very start should you obtain a license for your business?
Good tips, I have had all of my success from social media including "The Neighborhood" app. I am currently not using a business card / flyer and I think that is big mistake of mine. Questions For Mr. Wilson - Do leave business cards in the cars when you finish detail as well?
This is Jamaican Young RUclips I start my business but watching your Channel everything what you're saying right now is true it's so hard I feel like giving up I have no customers can you help me get some😩😩🙄
Hey Luke, I've had my detailing business for a little more than a year, I started part time just making side money, and at the beginning of this summer it got to the point I was making enough money to quit my full time job. This summer business was great, I made great, but now the summer is ending, and business is slowing down, I went from having about 10 cars a week, to maybe 1 or 2 a week now. Are there any tips that you can give that would help with consistency? I have a healthy Facebook page, business cards and flyers at multiple of our local stores and businesses. Just having a hard time getting people here.
Hey man! Ebbs and flows are totally natural, what I mean is it is totally normal to have that happen at certain times in your business stick through the changes and the seasons, my best advice for you is to capitalize on social media, and make sure you are posting regularly, in the local context of where you live
Well basically the shot gun approach u put so much shot out or bond to hit something no I'm not making fun of that approach it does work every dame business class I attended teaches u that approach
Go talk to the HOA..and talk to them FIRST! Before you go to the HOA/neighborhood, make yourself professional. You must have a quality vehicle that you're driving and it should have your best detailing work on it, have a professional uniform on, be cleaned up and present your services as PROFESSIONAL. It's all in how you present your services. Always play to the egos of the HOAs. More than likely, the very first words out of the representatives mouth will be no soliciting, this is when you talk about the beautiful homes in the neighborhood and the nice cars in the driveways, that you've noticed as you pulled in. Your services will put that shining 🌟 on their HOA. As family and friends visit member homes in the neighborhood, they'll see the beautiful vehicles...you present your services as a highlight to the HOA. You'd be surprised how presentation can make or break you
I disagree with the door to door method especially nowadays with the internet and social media. People probably look at you like youre living in the pre internet age.
Everyone is online he said followed by, you need business cards lol, then he says go to vista print, the shittiest quality card print that will damage your brand come on man ffs
I suggest they go to a designer and get them done properly and then get them printed properly, I pay £200 for 500 cards and £100 for design because I take my brand seriously, cheap doesn’t mean good!
I’d hate to make it a race think but In my experience knocking on doors has a lot of the neighbors suspicious of me. You’re white bro those type of risks are easier for you.

Thanks Michael!! I appreciate that encouragement! And yes to everything you said!

For a beginner Auto detailing entrepreneur, how much would I change for full detailing services per automobile..?
Almost a 5 yr old video, but still solid advice 👍

Hey, Luke.. just wondering.
At what stage in your business did you file for LLC? Have you filed for an LLC in your state?
Braden Nielsen that is a very good question, i was wondering that myself.
Hey Luke,

What is the biggest weakness in any mobile detailing?
Shaheer Ahmad travel time!
How much does a website cost??? Must be pretty high
Between 500 to 1k
Luke, in many ways, you are more helpful than Mike Phillips.
Why do you have a bunk bed

I was out knocking on doors the other day and this snobby old guy got mad and called the neighborhood security on us. That was annoying
