They did my boy Yoshi dirty in this game... _Ahaha, he has tentacles, let's make a funni ecchi anime moment with him and Leo for some reason instead of giving him some actual storytelling!_ Most of these characters endings were so half-arsed...
As someone who got into the series specifically because of Yoshi, I feel your pain. Seeing his "story" in this game aggravated me so much that I don't know if I'm even gonna keep tabs on Tekken anymore (especially since I agree that there were few or no good character endings).
Speaking of music, I think that Brimstone and Fire deserves a mention. It doesn't have much in terms of varying composition but it has a story driven atmosphere to it. It does what Namco fails to do through story telling, convey the tragical fate of the Mishimas. 1st Round may be meta for Sorrow while the 2nd is for Rage.
comparing lucky chloe to bryan is so fucking good. honestly i would be 100 percent more ok with the character if she wore being a sociopath on her sleeve
I think being upfront about being a jerk would be good, but I think it may be more gooderer if all of her opening quotes were the cutesy idol stuff and you don't see the mask drop until she wins and shows absolutely no respect for her opponents...Maybe her gameover countdown animation would be her starting off cutesy, like some mascot trying to encourage the player not to give up on her brand but, as the clock gets closer to zero, she becomes increasingly pissed-off until she completely stiffens up and gives some obscene gesture her paws will allow.
I think another reason for why tekken 7's music isn't as good as the previous games is that the developers chose alot of electronic music for the stages. This makes the music kind of blend together. In the previous games each stage had a distinct soundtrack where if you had to hear the music you would know exactly which stage the song is from. Tekken 7 has some top music but the large majority aren't unique enough to be memorable.
@@DaAxiomatic But music can still be hype for audiences, if not even more so if you add proper melodies and chord progressions, which is what Tekken 7's OST seemingly lacks, save for a few tracks. Most of the songs in this game are just incoherent dubstep wubbing...
I don't think Nina should care about Steve TBH. What's more important is her and Anna's rivalry. What I want to happen in T8 is for Anna to confront Nina about their rivalry. Anna stepped away from it TWICE (T4 and T7S1) and the second hiatus ended because Nina killed her fiance, someone she was happy with. I want Anna and Nina to fight, and regardless of whether or not Anna wins, I want her to cut Nina out of her life. Say what you want about Anna, but having been the one who stopped their bullshit twice, she's the more emotionally mature of the two. And her telling Nina it's over will show some major character development for both sisters.
@@OffBeatBijoux And/or Nina becomes a bit obsessed with Anna because she doesn't know how to connect with her healthily. Either way, character development innit.
I wouldn't say she's the more emotionally mature of the two considering half of the series has her join whatever organization is opposing Nina for that reason alone. What i can give her is that she is actually capable of feeling legitimate happiness outside of her line of work.
Even today, I still don't like Lucky Chloe as a story character, especially the fact that Eddy's story got poorly handled to be interactable with this brat. I wonder what drugs these Tekken story writers got for making up that side story interlude.
Tekken 7 is the most fun I've had actually playing the game, especially online. But the lack of offline modes, clearly budget cut models and customizations and the lackluster to insulting stories for side characters are all deal breakers to me. Which means the gameplay is so good, that despite none of the surrounding elements working, I still enjoy the game. (It also helps that someone commissioned a 3D artist to mod a couple of King outfits I had designed 4 years ago as fanart, which was a pleasant surprise. I recently went back into playing the game to test them out. Modding definitely helps with the enjoyment of the game)

Someone hath agreed with me that noble Yoshimitsu wert treated poorly in this game. While the scars will never go away, the pain is at least dulled by knowing I'm not alone in this opinion. Thank you, Gizou, you're an angel of mercy in these trying times. That said, very interesting points you made for T7's music and Lucky Chloe (can't believe I'm saying that). I don't know any of the T7 tracks, but you make a compelling case for why it's doing what it's doing...However, I wish they would have done what they did with all of the earlier games, where the arcade tracks are designed to be louder to stand out and the console tracks were redone to serve as better music...but I guess they didn't want to do that, since they were already cutting back on the graphics. And I despised the idea of Lucky because I thought she was just a dumb joke they slipped in as a symptom of them no longer taking the series seriously and her ridiculing Eddy or wasting his time was just self-deprecating humor they did out of laziness. Knowing that she's actually faking it with her idol persona and speaks much differently when nobody's watching and that she's an insanely insensitive thug actually give her some more interesting character...I still think she pales in comparison to when the series was better-written and agree that the "inverted Japanese trope" schtick probably doesn't have a long shelf-life, but you've helped me to see that Chloe is a better concept than I originally assumed she was. Again, angel of mercy. Trying times. Yadda, yadda.
According to Keiichi Okabe, the home system soundtracks were more to do with hardware incompatibility (particularly T3). The sequenced music options are pre-recorded, for home console. But in the arcade, the music dynamically mixes up into Round 2/3 variants for almost all stages because of the freedom of the SPU sequencer.
@@GizouGitai Oh dip. I always thought that the console releases having "arcade tracks" available meant they just decided to remix music for home, not that the releases were inferior. Interesting stuff and I'm now curious what listening to fights the way Arcade intended would be like...
The music defense was interesting, since the argument for arcade sound/volume do indeed make sense as to why the constant dubstep abuse occurs. You have to fight for interest, and now I wonder how T8 will work with its music. Since it’s been rumored and probably more likely that Tekken 8 won’t have its arcade release as the series has traditionally had.
My prediction will be that they're simultanious at the very least, since the marketing for Tekken 8 is strongly west-oriented, and we don't have an arcade culture.
Holy crap i love your videos man, they're some of the best analysis work I've seen on RUclips, and it's absolutely baffling you're not way more recognized. I'm a relatively new Tekken fan, only ever playing 7 due to being born in the early 2000's and not really getting into fighting games until around a few years ago, but the early Tekken games, despite not really interesting me mechanically (more of a 2D fighter guy), have some of the coolest and most interesting visual styles and stories of any fighting game from their time. It's a crying shame seeing how far those same characters have fallen in many respects, but at the same time I like a lot of the newer stuff as well, in no small part because of your videos making an effort to show the good in these newer games along with the bad. For example, the reason I'm commenting on this video in particular is how much I love (most of) Tekken 7's music and a few of its newcomer characters. For music, I pretty much agree with your taste on the good and the bad, but I would have to throw in my personal favorite, Mishima Dojo Round 1. Not a musically literate person by any means, but I'll do my best to justify it lmao. I love how it starts, with the quick drum hits at the beginning transitioning straight into the intense melody, and I really like how it slowly evolves over time and has distinct different sections that give me the mental image of a even sided fight that keeps trading back and forth between who's coming out ahead, with the chorus in the middle having both return to even footing. It's got a bit of that wubby messiness of the worse tracks, but I don't personally find it overpowering and even like it despite it being a little cluttered at times. Overall, probably not the objective best song on the OST, but definitely a good one in my opinion. As for the character side of things, I'm mostly referring to loving Lucky Chloe and Josie in particular. The rest are fine if pretty bland, but it's mostly those two that stood out to me. Chloe is just a really funny character idea to me, despite not being necessarily super original. The idea of an idol that has to act cutesy and innocent for the sake of her career, but is a Brian-level psychopath behind closed doors is really appealing to me, and I wish they leaned into it more in her gameplay and the larger story rather than almost exclusively taking it out on poor Eddie. Josie is mostly just my bias of being part Filipino and appreciating the rep, but I also like her character design and basic idea a lot. Her story mode kinda sucks ass, but hey that's pretty par for the course for Tekken 7 lmao. Also it's really lame she just speaks English rather than Tagalog, but at the very least I've heard it's somewhat based on the regional accent.
Namco has already done a better Filipina fighting game character back then with Soul Calibur II's Talim in my opinion. She's represented during the time period where the Philippines was yet to be (or only starting to be) influenced by Western colonial powers, which I think is native representation at its purest form (tho I wouldn't be surprised if there are some inaccuracies). She's got bladed tonfas which is pretty cool (Talim means "sharp edge" or "blade"), and she's got the pure and innocent demeanor that resembles Jun Kazama quite a bit. Josie, while I don't really hate her, is just kinda okay imo. I was pretty hyped when she was first introduced in 2015 cause "holy shit my country's represented in Tekken". Her fighting style is nice, her design is okay, but then the fact that she just sobs and cries when she wins is just kinda cringe, perhaps even back then, along with her name being a girly version of a national hero's name. Like, you've got Jose Rizal who is basically a novelist who had balls to critisise Spanish colonialism (and is also a Europe-travelling polyglot and a flirty harem lord, no seriously, the dude dated many girls), and then you've got this girl named "jOSIE rIZAL". It's not really offensive or anything, I just find how they ripped off Rizal's name like that a little bit corny or something.
