Man that Xiayou part really had me shook, it's sad to think that a lot of those lessons were learned The anime character part was hilarious though, I really enjoyed your dive into the series.
That's pretty much all I wanted making this channel. Nobody gives enough credence to these games, and I didn't want to die one day without telling everyone why Tekken's the good shit.
18:04 Although these endings aren't strictly canon, they are usually still partially confirmed. In Tekken 1, King canonically achieves 3rd place, which grants him enough funds to keep the orphanage running. Eddy gets to fund the operation on his Master by making an arrangement with Jin after T5 (which is why he works for him in T6). Yoshimitsu does end up saving the impoverished in Tekken 1, not because he won, but because he stole the money from Ganryu. Likewise, his heist in Tekken 4 is also canon which led to him rescuing Bryan. A problem with the way Tekken's story is written is that a lot of the characters' story hinge around winning the tournament or settling a deadly feud, neither of which can be canon. Maybe they can do what they did with Tekken 7 for Tekken 8, where the majority of fights take place outside of the tournament context. This would allow more stories to be canon, otherwise most characters feel like total failures as their ultimate goals can never be achieved when the mishimas hold a monopoly over who gets to win, or they rely on killing a roster staple. Most characters are tied to the ongoing global warfare in some shape or form. It really can't be too difficult to give them something to do in the greater story of Tekken, that doesn't boil down to a sequence of them punching boulders or something.
With the King and Julia interaction, it makes sense they knew each other since they were both orphans and so its likely they lived in the same orphanage King 1 ran, then Michelle adopted Julia. This pops up again when Julia becomes Jaycee in Tag 2 when she pairs up with Armor King against King and Marduk.
After watching your Tekken 5 analysis video a year ago, I've been itching for Xiaoyu to connect to Jin again on an emotional level
Warms my heart seeing her special intro with him in Tekken 8, I'd like to think that was because of *you* man. Whether it is or isn't can't deny the insight you've given to this game in particular, fingers crossed Tekken 8 can deliver
The more you think about xiaoyu's ending; the less it makes sense for her to go back that far down the timeline. The reason jin is the way he is now is because of tekken 3. This means all xiaoyu had to do is go back about two years, and either bring Jun to the present to talk some sene into her son, or take them both to the present and have past jin train in the present with his mom and then go back to his proper time period. Either this was an intentional decision by the writers to further highlight xiaoyu's disconnect from the rest of the universe, or they genuinely had a lapse in logic like xiaoyu.
It's clearly intentional. We should take a step back and ask why she'd need to time travel if she had the Mishima Zaibatsu by winning the tournament. Kaz, Hei and Jinpachi would be out of the picture. Jin's problems are solved, other than Devil Gene. Take another step back, and instead of winning a business conglomorate in a tournament, she could've *talked to him.*
@@GizouGitai While I can see why jinpachi would be out of the picture if she won the tournament, heihachi and kazuya wouldn't necessarily stop being threats just because she owns their company. Also given how jin was in this game, I doubt a friendly conversation between her and jin would do much. It's why I said bringing his mom into this family conflict would probably be the best use of a time machine.
Steve, extremelly handsome Oxford graduate boxing world champion and also pretty friendly bloke Also Steve: "The mishima zaibatsu will never make another monster like me"
I personally like Asuka Kazama. I do wish she could have a better relationship with her cousin, Jin, even take her role seriously. What I like the most about Asuka is her fighting skills, designs, and her Beauty🥰
Your channel deserves way more recognition, I found this super interesting and your opinions on Anna interesting to hear too, personally I love her but I completely understood your views, great work mate
I think you should've covered how movement plays the biggest role in Tekken 5, than it did in any other Tekken game. T5 is the most footsies Tekken game to date. Also, Asuka best girl.
I might be in the minority but I prefer Anna over Nina. At least Anna has a personality that many people find her interesting. Even her moves, the way she fights and her voice is very well done and fits her character. Nina’s moves seem very outdated and bland to me. Her story never seems to impress me except in tekken 4 with Steve.
Which is the video that talks about the potential of Asuka in a main character role? It's interesting. She also was the main character of a weird manga set in the Tekken 6 events. (Also, if there's no video about Tekken 6, at least I would love to hear your opinion about the design and narratives of the newcomers of that game and DR)

21:07 , that's some funny editing, heh heh. Oh, coolio, someone else who's never really taken to the Williams Sisters. Granted, when I first saw them as a kid, I didn't care for them because I was a kid too young to care for sex appeal and barely understood the Tekken story to boot. While that's lingered with me to this day, I think the other reason they never jumped out to me was Nina not having much of a personality and Anna being petty...Though, I have to disagree on Anna not being attractive, heh heh. For some reason, I always thought the reason King and Julia knew each other is that they both use wrestling moves, even if King uses far more of them than Julia...I prefer your idea that both of them being good people is their link, though, since it plays up on the fact that there are dozens of these tournaments all the same people go to, so they've all likely recognized a few faces over the years and the more good-hearted characters are likely to at least have a conversation or two. I've also always loved how well King's story has been done and that it's actually impacted other characters...A shame that you seem to be painfully right about Yoshimitsu, though. Never thought much of it at the time, but Bryan really did absorb his entire narrative for a while (T6 had him break away from revenge to control the power of his sword, but he was right back at Bryan in TTT2). I don't think T7 was really kind to anyone outside of the main plot, but it seems the pristine track record of King's storyline was so strong that he still came off as interesting when T7 dropped his potential down 70% whereas Yoshi had been divorced from his original concept for so long that subtracting a further 70% resulted in what can only be described as "pain."
Hearing you say it would mess up her character and how she's been portrayed if they brought Jun back to life.. Well.... guess who's coming back in tekken 8? Heh heh heh.... oh I hate what they've done to this franchise...
@@GizouGitai nah though I'm interested in seeing WHY she's being brought back, I have zero faith in the game truly making it payoff with the way the writing has been going lately.
@@Takejiro24 The ending makes me hopeful for the future... I feel like we was getting too carried away with all these devil and angel powers. Like they were always there, it moved away from like Kazuya vs Heihachi and Kazuya vs. Jin to some VERY over the top stuff. I liked the final battle when Jin and Kazuya JUST threw hands, with no power. Jin's arc is somewhat enjoyable. I think with Reina seeming to wanna be like Heihachi, if they have the balls to make her the main antagonist going forward, Kazuya might move back into the "anti-hero" role. With Jun... I mean... her coming back HAS pretty much rendered Asuka useless story wise imo... there's no real connection or anything between Jin and Asuka as Jin still looks to his mother and has more of a relationship with his UNCLES (one foster and the other half) then he does with his cousin. Jun herself is mostly shown in flashbacks and in dreams. I feel like they brought her back in this game to set her up for the next game... kinda strange but whatever I guess.. All in all, I hope this gets us back to some more grounded stuff. Like tekken 1,2, and 4. It feels like it will even though we still have one devil running around but I'm not holding out hope.
I always thought that tragedy was so close to comedy because bothering require a thorough understanding of of societal values. Also almost every character inherently feels like they come right out of an anime.
