Actually half true, if we look at Kazuya's character stories and his overall respect with Jun. Revived in Twkken 4 and learning that when he came back Jun was dead, nothing holds Kazuya back from giving in to his darker desires more, because the people he knew he respected were dead and he thought the world at that point is not worth loving, just worth conquering.
they do soften/humanize kazuya in tekken 8 but in a good way. we get him hesitating against killing jin and he goes for the knock out instead of the kill. Showing that he doesn't want to kill his own son. in his ending he has a golden framed picture of jun on his desk showing that jun wasn't some one time fling. he doubles down on this by saying he admires her strengh, we even get kazuya's goofy side with his collection of sneakers. before tekken 8 i thought kazuya would kill just about anyone for any reason but now i think he only really wanted to kill his father.. With tekken 7 It gives that feud closure (even though heihachi is alive, that man will never die) now i think jun is most likely going to save kazuya in the next game.

it's weird to see lee choalan as anything other then the laid back, flamboyant pretty boy that spew's "excellent" every chance he gets. changing characters to this extent should be a crime.
This iteration of Lee obviously follows his tekken 2 and 3 character version. It's still in his early years, and it was before he ditched the rivalry, started violent systems, became friends with his adopted brother Lars, and joined his war against the Mishima Zaibatsu and G Corp. God, I love his arc. 😂
I think tekken could do really well as a movie or television series, so long as someone like you who takes the characters and themes seriously has a hand in it's creation.

Here's hoping one day they finally adapt parts of this for the games and give some much needed depth to Kazuya.
I used to watch this movie back when I was a bit younger, though I only watched the English dub since that was the one available on YT, wish I've seen the original Japanese version. I actually think this movie was pretty decent, and a lot of people seem to criticise it a bit too harshly, and I do get that the movie could've been better from a critical standpoint. But the themes and message presented in the games were there. I like how they've essentialy combined Tekken 1 and 2's narrative, expanding upon Kazuya and Jun's relationship more than just a one night stand, albeit it was non-canon. But it does provide some insight on what might have happened between them that led to Kazuya's internal conflict in Tekken 2. The movie also gives the cast a little more character beyond just FMV's, and lore from manuals. Not to mention it also gives Heihachi some actual reason why he's in pursuit of power rather than just leave him as the token power hungry villain. Certainly better than Blood Vengeance and, yea we don't talk about that... Once again, you've done a great job with anaysis (:

I showed this to my girl when we first met. She loves it. We've watched it once a year for like 7 years now. I thought it was a great way to adopt the story into a single film. The only game in the series I think would work as a movie without modification is Tekken 4.

Whether it's a bad movie, a TV series, or a game, we all have a "guilty pleasure" of sorts. One of mine is the Is this film right here. I remember staying up until around 5AM to record it on my VCR back when the "Encore Action Channel" showed Anime late at night and later getting people into the Tekken game franchise itself by showing it to people, not realizing the retcons and major changes Harada would later make within its lore a decade or so later... (It also arguably marked the first appearance of "Kazumi" despite her image only appearing in a locket.)
Just found out about you yesterday thanks to a link from 4thSnake. Absolutely phenomenal stuff, man. But, I will say, its funny that your stuff on Tekken makes me realize that the entire story is just “How Daddy Issues Ruined Everything.”
So you're going back to the tekken chasm. It's a welcome surprise. When it comes to this movie, it seems like it wanted to take storytelling cues from the street fighter 2 movie, but kept applying said cues with elements from the tekken games that weren't quite compatible. Case in point: it wants the emitonal center piece of the film to be the bond between two childhood friends whose connection with each other has wavered over the years thanks to their growing differences. Yet where as the street fighter movie used Ryu and Ken who were established to be good friends within the game, the tekken movie uses two charcters who were strangers to each other up until adulthood, with one of them being a ruthless business man. This meant that the filmmakers either had to dull Kazuya edges in order to make his feelings for Jun seem genuine, or have Jun insist on being content with taking on Kazuya's vengeful actions upon herself if it means easing his heart. Depending on which one you believed they did this either lead to a change of heart for Kazuya that was telegraphed rather than foreshadowed, or suggest that Kazuya's volatile actions aren't much of a problem so long as someone believes in him.
I felt the *DUB* wanted to jump on the SF Anime movie success. But thematically at least, they're both too different. It's a really strange choice they made, to give Kazuya a redemptive story. Furthermore, to crystalise Heihachi with a philosophy rather than a will that acts for the philosophy of the narrative he's in. It strays too far. This tells me NAMCO had little to do with the writing. Whilst Tekken might be the only movie Ryota Yamaguchi penned himself, his script writing projects prior likely influenced him. Especially, Visions of Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop (script) and Sailor Moon Supers. Bebop less so, but there's a running theme of mysterious, aloof/coldhearted anti-hero characters having redemption archs. In Escaflowne and Supers, this was fetishised. In Bebop it was given hubris. It's my own opinion, but I think it's not Street Fighter that influenced the differences, but Fujoshi.
@@GizouGitai I definitely think the movies are thematically unlike each other in practically every regard( in the case of the street fighter two movie, I'm not even quite sure what the themes were. I believe it was about duality of martial arts and how it can be used for self improvement, domination of others through force). I guess it would accurate to say that this movie seems to tkae structural cues from the SF2 movie. Such as having plot devided between the strained relationship of out two protagonist, and law enforcement operative looking to stop the criminal activity of the antagonist. I don't think giving Kazuya a more redeemable depictions is too strange of an idea. It's just doing that while also trying to be faithful to who he was in the games are two goals that don't exactly aligne with each other.
I just got into Tekken and it's been fun so far, still more to learn and do from the franchise. I recently just watched this movie as well, and I liked it a lot.
As a guy who had just started off right from tekken 3 skipping tekken 1 and 2, I think you can imagine the confusion i must have felt while watching this movie. It wasnt until tekken 5 that all the air was cleared in terms of the storyline.
I always await your videos especially your Tekken videos there awesome keep up the good work. Quick question though are you going to do a Tekken 7 analysis that's the one I'm really anticipating?

Quick question since I'm gonna have to to wait a little while how did you feel about Tekken 7 at least from a story point of view you don't have to go into detail of course, I would like to see that when you do your analysis but just a little teaser would be good if that's alright with you?
@@antwoinerankin7193 I intend to fight in its corner, like I did for Tekken 6. It's not right to just rip into something, ignoring what it's trying to express. But let's say there's a reason I chose to look at Tekken's Anime first, before going to 7. That comparison isn't going to be favourable.
I only saw this movie once as a kid and focused more on how Yoshi was just a background character than the story itself, so I never noticed what it was saying, let alone that it was good and had interesting ideas that would never be explored in the games (like Kazuya NOT being a douchebag, Heihachi caring about Kazuya enough he'd kill himself if he died at the cliff and Jun actually doing something on-screen). Are we all sure the themes and messages Gizou keeps finding in unpopular Tekken stories are legit or is he just very good at making things up?
The animation was poor, but this movie had a simply beautiful music score - wish I could find it.... particularly the part where Heihachi says “My Tekken will create the destruction of the devil, and the renewal of the gods” That scene literally gives goosebumps every time, and I think the English voice actor for Heihachi really outshines the rest of the cast... Very talented voice actor.
This movie was my first introduction to tekken story when I was a child. So I was very surprised years after when I learnt Kazuya was the bad guy and Jin was his son 😅 i though they were brother or something. The live action movie confused me even more
My knowledge of Mortal Kombat's lore begins with Jax making one-liners about his own police brutality, and ends with him using Time Travel to make Wakanda to end Police Brutality. Is that anywhere close?
I've considered Soul Calibur, but I'm too unfamiliar with that story right now. Tekken feels like an outlier in quality to me. Or maybe you're talking about videogame anime. The SF anime were good.
This is the best form of Tekken media outside the games, although I haven't seen the netflix series Im not too interested in it. This Movie is also the reason I got into the Offspring, Stabbing Westward, and Corrosion of Comformity.
one thing I do respect is this is based on pre devil gene retcon lore of the early tekken games 1-3.....all the other stuff after ran with that but the story was better when it was simply a tale of revenge to the point somebody on death's door was willing to sell his soul to get even it was simply a story of one hateful act begets another and another until there is nothing left but a desire to destroy the other at all costs and lose whatever humanity you have in the process...it also didn't whitewash heihachi he was a bastard one that ppl love but a bastard nonetheless not some misunderstood overall good man.
Gizou Myguy, you have tapped into the dankest of all possible media, early anime movie adaptations. Do be wary as to not be consumed by this power... but I see your love of hating Anna keeps you tethered, so maybe I'm worried about nothing.
The introduction of invisible dinosaurs being something you delivered deadpan and I took as utterly unsurprising says something about what consuming Tekken has done to all of us, dunno what, but something
BV can't canonically happen, and the movie's a bit daft other than that sick ass fight scene at the end. But I've been heavily considering doing Bloodline since T8 has reference to it. Last time I did an anime on the channel though, the copyrightbot ate my fucking organs.
An example (ruclips.net/video/paHho2r39Do/видео.htmlsi=G9pcaKEPrZyAlyEe timestamp - 4:34 ) is this youtuber "Cosmonaut Variety Hour" tried to review a superhero movie but couldn't upload it bc of copyright, so he edited the clips like adding a dancing anime girl and a text XD
Since Heihachi's philosophy stems from genetic determinism, his viewpoint is semi-valid. And humanity is a warring species like our closest relatives. The invalidity is that there's a larger potential than just that, which is what Jun and Kazuya's Locket represent. It's basically MGS1.
Tekken The Motion Picture is a mix of Tekken 1 and Tekken 2. It's not connected to either of the games, and it's its own universe. There are characters from both games but the story is based on Tekken 1.
I like how you called the music "Ass Rock". It's not that bad. But I always assumed they changed the music like they did with Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie because they wanted to make the anime feel tough and not listen to soft Japanese music. At least that what I think.
A lot of characters are out of character and the movie paints Kazuya as a anti hero which is fine idea but the execution is bad since it simply does so by changing characters around him. I disagree. The film was pretty loosely based on tekken
Funfact that has nothing to do with Tekken itself: this was one of the earliest examples of a fully digitally drawn and colored anime!
I noticed some of that actually.
The movie itself is definitely digitally composited. There's a lot of digital visual effects (ripple effects, and the strobing white frames I censored in some scenes follows precise 1,2,1,2 patterns). You could convince me the character colouring was also digital, but I don't know.
But the backgrounds are clearly beautifully hand painted, and I believe that the linework looks too hand-penned -- the only parts that look digital are the line-shading on some characters.

That line about Kazuya on bringing one shirt spun me😂😂😂
Huh, better animation at times than expected. The Mishima Clan sure does have some bitchin eyebrows. And I didn't expect the vore.
Regardless what anyone thought about Tekken The Motion Picture, one thing remains certain. Its better than the godawful Tekken Blood Vengeance.
The Heihachi vs Kazuya vs Jin fight scene was the only good part of that movie.
Totally agree with you on that.
No
I just got into Tekken and it's been fun so far, still more to learn and do from the franchise.
20:55 so Heihachi was senator Armstrong before nanomachines, son?
I always await your videos especially your Tekken videos there awesome keep up the good work. Quick question though are you going to do a Tekken 7 analysis that's the one I'm really anticipating?
Yes.
But channel's on hiatus, IRL sucks right now.
@@GizouGitai that's quite alright my friend and I hope life isn't giving you to much trouble, the fact that you go out of your way to make these videos is already a blessing thank you.

@@blakenapier3125 Good luck, buddy.
@@GizouGitai Who are you replying to?
@@mudsaisa5861 Don't even remember anymore.
The animation was poor, but this movie had a simply beautiful music score - wish I could find it.... particularly the part where Heihachi says “My Tekken will create the destruction of the devil, and the renewal of the gods”
That scene literally gives goosebumps every time, and I think the English voice actor for Heihachi really outshines the rest of the cast... Very talented voice actor.
good analysis
This movie was my first introduction to tekken story when I was a child. So I was very surprised years after when I learnt Kazuya was the bad guy and Jin was his son 😅 i though they were brother or something. The live action movie confused me even more
And the new Tekken anime is a unintended sequel to this which is awesome
Great video as always! This got me thinking, have you ever considered doing an analysis on the Mortal Kombat lore?
My knowledge of Mortal Kombat's lore begins with Jax making one-liners about his own police brutality, and ends with him using Time Travel to make Wakanda to end Police Brutality.
Is that anywhere close?
I’ve watched this video a few times now it’s so damn good you’re really good at this Man would you ever consider doing more fighting games like this?
I've considered Soul Calibur, but I'm too unfamiliar with that story right now. Tekken feels like an outlier in quality to me.
Or maybe you're talking about videogame anime. The SF anime were good.
This was fire 🔥
My theory in Tekken 8: Jun returns and learns Jin and Kazuya are at war with each other. Jun will try to save them.
I'm proud that Kazuya's a hero. I hope he and Jin will get along together.
That's cute.
But, no.
@@daniel_ding48 No? No what?
In another world where things went right and Kazuya Jun and Jin live happily together as a family
Well one is certain:
It's much better than Bloodline, Blood Vengeance and live action movies combined.
Ah,yes. The legendary respecter of women, kazuya
I still have my VHS of this movie
I tried hunting it down for years. Couldn't watch it until I had a computer.
Great video mate 👍 new sub
Impressive video. Tekken 7 next?
Maybe this movie is gonna end up reflect Jin or Lars arc in Tekken 8 and beyond.
rip bruce

Ouch that hurts but it's also true.
...tekken the motion picture was actually pretty good???
after watching the video: holy shit its true
Funny that this video pops up,since I actually know the guy who voiced Kazuya in the English dub.
Oh yeah? Is he cool?
@@GizouGitai Yeah he's a pretty cool guy. He's my buddy's dad and I've known him for years.
@@lootrat1337 Rad. Ask him what it was like to dub anime in the '90s, that shit seems wild.
@@GizouGitai I feel like I have asked him about it,but can't quite remember. I'll ask next time I see him.
it really was
This is the best form of Tekken media outside the games, although I haven't seen the netflix series Im not too interested in it. This Movie is also the reason I got into the Offspring, Stabbing Westward, and Corrosion of Comformity.
Kazuya beats up baek without a second thought because Japan hates Korea 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I like lee chaobla in the games more because he actually starts his own company to be a big fuck you to zaibatsu and gcorp
....Sooooo when's the tekken 7 review?
I'm excited to see all of the ways you tear that game apart story wise.
I almost had the script done before I had an epiphany. Either way, you're waiting a while. My IRL sucks right now, but I'm trying.
@@GizouGitai oof, sorry to hear that. Hope things work out well for you.
@@pedroportela6476 Thanks, dude.
one thing I do respect is this is based on pre devil gene retcon lore of the early tekken games 1-3.....all the other stuff after ran with that but the story was better when it was simply a tale of revenge to the point somebody on death's door was willing to sell his soul to get even it was simply a story of one hateful act begets another and another until there is nothing left but a desire to destroy the other at all costs and lose whatever humanity you have in the process...it also didn't whitewash heihachi he was a bastard one that ppl love but a bastard nonetheless not some misunderstood overall good man.
Kazuya Only Good Ending
Wouldn't it be a twist if the upcoming Netflix Tekken show is a sequel to this instead of an adaptation of Tekken 3?
New Tekken anime in Netflix was pretty ok..i hope IT might get a second season..
Gizou Myguy, you have tapped into the dankest of all possible media, early anime movie adaptations.
Do be wary as to not be consumed by this power... but I see your love of hating Anna keeps you tethered, so maybe I'm worried about nothing.
Jesus christ, that shirt rip by Kazuya was like 3 frames that's too fast for a tekken button.
Safe on block too
The introduction of invisible dinosaurs being something you delivered deadpan and I took as utterly unsurprising says something about what consuming Tekken has done to all of us, dunno what, but something
Yo but the Street Fighter Alpha movies though
will you review blood vengeance and bloodline ?
BV can't canonically happen, and the movie's a bit daft other than that sick ass fight scene at the end.
But I've been heavily considering doing Bloodline since T8 has reference to it. Last time I did an anime on the channel though, the copyrightbot ate my fucking organs.
@@GizouGitai oh….
@@GizouGitai maybe heavily edit Bloodline? Like flip it, and oversaturate it? XD
An example (ruclips.net/video/paHho2r39Do/видео.htmlsi=G9pcaKEPrZyAlyEe timestamp - 4:34 ) is this youtuber "Cosmonaut Variety Hour" tried to review a superhero movie but couldn't upload it bc of copyright, so he edited the clips like adding a dancing anime girl and a text XD
call infinite azure a soulless track again i dare you
When's Tekken revolution
Right after Tekken Mobile
Honestly I grew up with the tekken movie alongside the street fighter 2v series
24:05 what's the plan with the half-bling validity?
Since Heihachi's philosophy stems from genetic determinism, his viewpoint is semi-valid. And humanity is a warring species like our closest relatives.
The invalidity is that there's a larger potential than just that, which is what Jun and Kazuya's Locket represent.
It's basically MGS1.
@@GizouGitai why is it sami-valid?
@@erdood3235
There are limitations placed on us that are inherent to our genome.
The history and genetic disposition of mankind is battle.
Music at 9:50 timestamp?
Character Select T2
The main problem is that Heihachi isn't supposed to be running the tournament its Kazuya esp since all the characters are from Tekken 2.
Everyone loves Sonic's openings.
Wtf Akio ohtsuka played jack
Boning BOTH Williams sisters is "tasteless"?
Yes
such a shit planet when there is no way to right any wrongs, you just have to take it and move on i guess
A lot of characters are out of character and the movie paints Kazuya as a anti hero which is fine idea but the execution is bad since it simply does so by changing characters around him. I disagree. The film was pretty loosely based on tekken
I *do* mention that in the first 5 minutes.
Jun was such an annoying character, she really got on my nerves
13:20
She's American though.

The thought was how a Japanese writer, writing for a Japanese audience, would feel it would come off to show charred human remains in suburban ruin.
