Thanks for taking off the housing of the valve to show the little metal contact moving. Lovely to understand. Another reviewer mistakenly thinks you'd have to hold the button down to keep it releasing when it is obviously a one touch completed action.
Thanks for explaining why I couldn’t customize settings! Either mine is faulty or I’ve just been too heavy handed. The manual is REALLY inadequate, so I’m not sure whether I was doing things wrong or just not being patient enough, as you say. Will try again!
Just got the Ultra 8qt. Living in the AZ mountains I love the altitude adjustment....It did make a difference. I tested the difference on the egg setting by cooking a few eggs at the default setting and then my altitude of 4500 feet. Over cooked on default and perfect when set to our altitude. Tip quick release ASAP or they will overcook.
Mike, I agree with your "touchy" knob assessment on the IP Ultra. I went back to my IP Duo for that reason and use the Ultra as a humidifier. I fill the Ultra with water, add a squirt of white vinegar to control calcium precipitation, set it on slow cook high for 20 hours, leave the lid off, and let it raise the relative humidity in the house. It is quiet, easy to clean, and works well for that purpose. My Duo is a better pressure cooker. Now, if Instant Pot would fix the problems with my Instant Pot GEM, I would put them back on my Christmas card list.
I use the Ultra as my second cooker, for when I need to pressure cook a side dish or appetizer. The knob is annoying, but it's still usable when I need to run two Pots at once.
Would you characterize the knob as feeling and moving solidly when u turn it or does it have a cheapy quality to it? Just wondering since the knob is used for pretty much each setting....and if a "looseness-wiggle" is in it's future. This review was really helpful, btw!
I have just bought a ultra 6qt, it looks like inner stainless steel pot of ultra 6qt is smaller than Duo 6qt. Is there a difference in size of the pot?
I think Instant Pot sells bases and lids products separately on their own website's "Shop" tab. If interchangeable, that would be a savings on upgrade. Need the answer to your question!

This was really helpful!
Thank god a review that isn’t done by a Karen. Thanks so much for this
Great review! Thank you.
Hi Mike! Thanks for the review, I just purchase the 3Qt version and I wondering what's the benefits of the Ultra settings or option
I don't know - I never use it. I use Pressure Cook, Sauté, and (occasionally) Slow Cook.

It has a good "knob feel" - doesn't feel cheap. Just jumpy.
Nice vid. Thanks👍
Me gustaría algún vídeo en español😀
Thanks

There is no difference in size - the inner pots are the same.
@@MikeVrobel Their markings on the inside are different though not their actual physical size/properties.
can you use the same lid form the new one for the older one?
