Damn, I'm in the process of installing a thermostat and decided to check out a video prior just because. I never knew about that little vent hole. I've played with it with my finger but never knew it should be facing up.
Hello Scott! That component helps to get the air pockets out of the engine or as we call it burp air out. Also, this helps small amount of coolant to get by and always to have circulation through the cooling system and help or prevent static flow. Take well care Scott!
@elchanojose4633 thanks for the info. I finished installing my new thermostat shortly after my last post. I went to check the positioning of the vent hole on my old thermostat. By luck I positioned it at the 11 o'clock position. Bit I'm good now. No leaks.
My car does give proper cool air in summers and proper heat in winter. Coolant level is good. Is that thermo stat could be a reason then please let me know ?????
Hello! The thermostat job is to control the engine temperature by acting as a door to stop or allow coolant to flow through the engine as it heats up and cools down. This component reacts to temperature change that the coolant sits at. When the engine starts building heat then the coolant absorbs that heat and when the thermostat senses a high temperature on the coolant, than the thermostat open allowing the coolant flow towards the radiator and cooler coolant to come in into the engine to cool it down. Hope this was helpful. Take well care!
Hello! The metal does not have to be open, it would be good and helpful to sit at the highest point when installation. Also, keep in mind that the thermostat be installed in the right way for it to operate properly. Take well care!
I usually drill a hole on the lil pin, did it on a dodge car and work perfect. Now i did it on a pontiac vibe and the car buble alot so i install the factory thermostat...

Hello! Some thermostats are not made the same. Some are made different but still work. The only advantage of that little silver valve is to allow air trapped to move by when the thermostat is close. This helps the engine to burp air out and fill the space with coolant. Take well care!
Hello! The thermostats might not all be the same or might not have this pins. If the pin is not there, dont worry about that because the job of the thermostat is still going to be done. The pin is just a way to help let air trapped on the engine to be burped out even if the thermostat is closed. Don’t worry, air is not going to be trapped if the pin isn’t there and will get out. Take well care!
Hello Miguel! A thermostat is not that hard to replace. Some cars require more labor than other but 2 or 3 days is too much time for this kind of job. The reason on why your car is taking too long for a thermostat replacement, is probably because the shop has other cars that are being worked on and your car is sitting there until a spot is available. Take well care Miguel!
@gta4162 Yeah, that's true for me and you, but the original comment obviously doesn't know much about cars so it'll take them longer + i was talking about cars in general not just about this one because some would need a lot more work just to change a thermostat
It’s super easy. If you have the funds to pay the shop and you don’t feel like fooling with, then take it to the shop. But if you want to save money, do it yourself. I do a lot of maintenance myself. I’ve learned a lot by watching many RUclips videos.
Hello! Not all thermostats are made like the one we showed on our video, some are made without the bypass valve that we talked about. If your thermostat doesn’t have it, don’t worry about that it is going to work fine. Take well care!
Hello! Not all thermostats are made the same. Some vehicles have been equipped with thermostats that don’t have the small hole or valve. If your thermostat is just full face metal with no hole, it’s ok and is going to work fine but just install it on the right orientation. Take well care!
Hello! There is nothing wrong about drilling it out. Makes sense on having a small hole to let small amount of liquid to go by. I don’t know about making it go faster but everything can be posible. Take well care!

I just have a fluid leak from the thermostat, if the metal is on top, will the fluid not leak out?
could this cause overheating?
if installed with jiggle pin facing downward?
I think so I'm waiting on mine I bought one from AutoZone didn't have that lil jiggle...I got one from Amazon and it has it
it was the cause of my overheating along with the coolant temp sensor. replaced no problems now!

If you install the thermostat correctly the jiggle pin will be correct also, simple really
if I don't have this hole on the thermostat can I drill it like this? or can I lubricate the gasket with something?
Thank you for very important info. Can i make small hole to it same size?

the jiggle pin faces upwards so the air can escape
What happens if it's not? Does it cause the fluid to boil out of rad when trying to bleed

It does matter. The side with the coil spring always faces into the motor. If you install it backwards it will overheat
Probably not but I’d install it with the jiggly point facing upwards at 12:00
