- I compare my Demon 170 to my 2016 charger hellcat and give you my thoughts on which car is faster and which is the better car to own. My record-breaking hellcat packed 1025hp with some relatively light mods, while the Demon 170 throws down 1025hp directly from the factory, making it the quickest production car in the world on a prepped surface. Which car would you rather own?

I also became a subscriber when you had the Charger Hellcat, not a fan of the Mustang unless it was a Dark Horse or the GTD. The 170 is, like you stated, really for the track and not always great on the road, so I go with the Hellcat or even a Super Stock. Happy 4th RacerX!
Hellcat are pretty crazy. I can attest to the versatility. Mine makes 941whp and has 50k miles and been modded since 10k miles. 100's of WOT hits and still going strong. And if something in the bottom end does pop, the short blocks are cheap-ish these days.
Awesome. It's literally always been the best design for many decades.
It was so good Chrysler went to jet engine design because they knew they were maxed out in piston technology.

Mine put down 921whp on a mustang dyno and I just turned over 63k miles on my hellcat. I’m hoping to get another solid year out of it.
I like the 2018 demon over the 170...especially esthetic wise I'm not a fan of that half wide body look...I understand that they did that for aerodynamic reasons though.

Your old Charger was hard to beat! An AMAZING beast! While the Demon 170 is technically better, there was a certain charm with XCESIV. I'm excited to see what you can do with your Demon 170! Great video, Racer X! By the way, that portable compressor looks awesome!

I would never modify that 170 because Iike you said, the price of the engines should you need another one. I would just drive it. I probably wouldn’t even have put an exhaust on it knowing me. I don’t even race so who am I kidding. 😂

Horrible idea. They don’t handle boost well and should probably sell it and get your self a motor that handles boost well like a coyote.

You must be thinking about the 392 Hemi which yes putting boost on will blow the engine up unless you build the engine. I get you like mustangs and the coyote engine but not everyone wants one. I’ll take a R/T over a coyote anyday

One thing I noticed Mr X.. You look calm and collected running the cat. Look like a madman in the 170. Think that says it all as far as the comparison of the two. 😄 🤣
For me i would go with the Hellcat and mod it. I prefer consistency and reliability over ridiculous power

Demon 170! Congratulations! You are now part of the MoPar research and development team! Your assignment: follow their instructions and go over the top! Team up with the oil geek. Analyze your oil every 500 miles. Look for wear. Have him do a show! When wear patterns look better, then increase your oil change intervals. Let the oil tell you when to change. Analyze after a trip to the track. (Does this car need a dry sump system?) Let us know! ENJOY the process! Good luck!

Ps- i still like the Demon170 the best. Not just for its super collectability but also there is soo much untapped potential in the D170 that is undiscovered yet, more so than any of the other factory vehicles out there past or present. Time will tell.

I got into your channel last year by watching your scat pack/hellcat content. I prefer the hellcat over the twin turbo stang you had and the 170 but ill watch regardless unless you get an ev 😂

The BGE block is near maxed out on the c170.

Thank you Racer X much success to you sir. You are an awesome racer. I have a ? I have a 2019 Hellcat red eye Widebody I just recently bought rear OEM Detroit Tire 18 wheels. They have been balanced with my other purchase of MT ET Street R 305/45/18 tires. I obviously don’t have much experience as you. The tire shop were I got them mounted them on and put too much air. So I bought a ARB Deflator kit. What is the lowest PSI I can put on those tire because my car was shaking a lot at 80mph. the lower I go on those Tire the shaking goes away or feels less I mean. I’m just leaving those tires on only for the summer
I noticed dude isn't out beating the hell out of that 170 every weekend anymore.. He got smart and now he's leaving it parked in his garage like everyone else who bought them is doing..
Great video! Demon 170 forsure! There are way more hellcats out in the wild. The demon 170 is so rare and so few compared to a hellcat.
Nothing wrong with a hellcat. The demon 170 is the best to me. You sir are apart of Mopar history with that 170. There is probably a thousand hellcats to your one Demon 170. Its such a cool car.
The price tag alone makes the hellcat better than the 170

It's plenty fast for me. I just changed the Water pump a few weeks ago & the Driveshaft about 2 months ago but She's got 117k Police miles 8600 engine hours 4500 idle hours so I guess it's given Pretty good Service & still is a Hoot to drive✌🏼😎☯️
Still wish the Charger came in a manual transmission from the factory. That would be the ultimate fun, practical daily driver while still being able to put my kid in the back seat.

I think he must have bumped his head when he decided to get rid of his Charger,seems like he was a lot happier.No one takes them to the track anymore to slow.I think you should have pullied up and e85'ed you OLE Hellcat and made a channel out of sniping 170's. That is what I try to do with my stock shortblock Redeye at 3940 lbs it has been best 9.17 @ 151,it went 9.91 @138 with locked pcm.

I believe the engine is pretty much maxed out performance wise. To answer your question, I would love to have a 170, but if Direct Connection ever gets their 💩 together (unlikely) I could build something incredible for the price tag of a 170.
Closest thing would be just adding a Whipple 3.0 to a Hellcat.
I believe IHI makes a 3.5L blower.
X can you sey there difference between hellcat engine over years 15 to 2023 like in hardware

A few years back, I'd have said i wanted the Demon and the Demon was the best that Dodge has ever done absent the Viper, but after watching these videos and sime videos from other content creators, I'd pass up a Demon for a Hellcat or Hellcat Redeye without even thinking about it.
I prefer the Charger. It has nothing to do with the fact that I have a Charger Scatpack. Lol! However, I really do not care for the half widebody thing on the 170. To me it looks dumb. I honestly like the narrow bodies much better. Great videos!

I would take the Demon 170 for sticker over the Hellcat everyday anybody can get a Hellcat. You have to win the lottery to get a Demon or the 170. You got passed over on the 2018 it's the luck of the draw to get an allocation. Then being able to buy it for sticker is a minor miracle in itself for the Demon 170.
Has anyone aside from dodge actually ran a 1.66s 0-60 or the 9.4 quarter?

@@ctreacts1537hellcat doesn’t take 9 quarts of oil it takes 7 at least the hellcat and hellcat red eye do. Not sure about the 170. Brakes ? I’ve owned 2 hellcats never had an issues with the brakes

You can always keep building on what you’ve bought.
Dodge should have done the D170 for 2024 model year. Instead of 3300 they should have made 1000 or less, should have handbuilt those engines, instead of rushing them all out in 23 when dodge knew there were still problems. Then they would have had something cool to promote 24-25 instead of the hornet 😄 🤣
Sounds like I hear a bit of regret in your voice. That’s why I still have my 2015 Hellcat and 2019 Redeye. I wanted a D170 but I’m glad I didn’t get one.

You spent less on the hell cat. You can go higher in mph in the hell cat. U could add weight to the vehicles to get better traction .To improve traction.
A 1000 horses is a 1000 horses and if the Hellcat was more consistent, then what was the point?
The Hellcat was better in two ways. It was really consistent, and also in the aspect of cost. You can build an insane Hellcat for the cost of a 170. Especially if you find a used Hellcat. Also, it seems like the 170 is suffering massively shocks wise. I don't think better springs and adjustable Viking shocks will void the warranty?

I would say if you're all around using your car on the street more than the track, the Hellcat would come out on top. I would worry too much about hitting some wet pavement with that 170.

The 170 Imo looks good but is becoming a major flop for dodge. They're severely over priced due to markups, along with numerous engine failures, and now the prices a dropping drastically leaving bd taste in owner's mouths.
