      @@pierrevdd6923 this was definitely outside of nesting season - they get viciously aggressive otherwise. We have a lot of seagulls around here

    I believe you can turn off the collision sensors in the settings while in normal flight mode, could potentially conserve your battery life for a longer loiter period.

    Awesome flight! Man, I love my Air 2s and really don’t “need” a 3s, but I love long distance flying so much. Just SO tempting. If I hadn’t already pulled the trigger on the Avata 2 earlier this year, I’d be all over this.

      You should try a real long range fpv quad like the helion 10. You can fly for up to an hour with a 16000mah battery and fly around 23km away

      @@dronewilder5234 you’ll be looking at around 2.2kg without go pro. My Moz7 (7.5”) weighs 1.8kg with a 8000mah li ion battery and GoPro and achieves 25 min flight times.

      I have flown 6km away on my first Air 2S about 2 years ago. Damn beast. I barely made it back an dmy heart was pumping harder than the first time I had sex LOL.

    That H in a circle for home was the best new feature I ever got in an update. It really helps my assistant, too, as it's usually her job to return my drone.

    Hi from Alan Birmingham man just to say your footage on the distance of your drone, he’s amazing, as it put me peace of mind even so as i purchased the same drone in the combo less than a week ago what the drone is capable of doing as all the reviews up to now I’ve been amazing about it.       Same here - getting a boat there is a bit of a mission (I know there are tours etc). For the air3s it was a mere 5-10min flight. Risky though if it’s windy - easy to get caught out as range will then drop.

    May I ask you what settings do you use for the remote to achieve that distance? I actually tried something similar with my brand new Air 3S as soon as I got it but I kept loosing signal after just 2km. Similar test, from the beach flying over the sea, RC signal just drops after 2000mts or so😢

    Congratulations! My Air 3S' top speed is 54 km/h in normal and 97km/h in sport mode. Is it because of CE regulations that your 3S is significantly slower? Based on experience of my Neo, you do need to fly as fast as the drone allows to save battery if longer range is priority. But I don't have enough milage with the 3S to say for sure. So thank you for testing this.

      @@cheungarrie123 no we intentionally reduced the sport mode top speed to 54kmh to maintain that speed for efficiency. Alternatively could have just turned collision sensors off and flown in normal mode.

    Whether it's technically allowed or not, you weren't risking anything there, nobody to be injured, the biggest risk would be littering, but considering the amount of sewage the water companies are pumping untreated into the rivers and sea's every day, I think the risk is minimal ;)

      Thanks - I’m a massive fan of people using common sense first and foremost and that’s what I wanted to bring across here. Rules are getting tighter and tighter and inevitably people may try to bend the rules - I’d then rather people don’t completely endanger public or property if they choose they have to (even though it’s still wrong)

      We all have a responsibility to not do things which are going to harm our hobby (and, for some, their livelihoods) going forward. The rules are already over the top, IMHO, let's not make things worse for ourselves!

      You do have line of sight if you think about it, like if a chopper or plane or anything was flying ridiculously low with a human on board you would be able to see and hear it at that range, you’d have as good a chance at getting out of the way if it was right next to you, maybe moreover because you would see it coming from farther away.

    Brave testing with this fairly expensive drone ;) for the wobbling, you can also put obstacle avoidance mode to bypass and it will stop wobbling around. Hope for a fix in an upcoming fw update.

    This must have been done in FCC mode! I once landed my Air 3 with critically low battery level after taking panos 6.5kms away of a big buddha statue. Forced landing happened above me at 500m, but luckily could manoeuvre while in descent! Had 5% left and the charging hub wouldn't even want to start charging it. Had to charge it in the drone.

    Is there any information about DJI fixing this problem with the obst sensors?
    I have my old Mavic Air here and no matter how dirty it is, it always works perfectly (I clean the sensors once every 2 months or so)

    Ohh... you can see the current flowing away from you along the pillars that support those metal monstrosities. I guess that explains the wind flowing away from the coast. This test was very exciting too!

    Did you put controller in FCC mode as UK is CE mode that is only 100mw output power. Lovely flight.

    I have done similar tests over the years, not to see how far a drone can go but to see signal range for break ups etc. I have owned all the Air series and found the Air 3s the best so far.

    Great location for the test! Were you in FCC or CE mode? Being in the UK, I'd guess CE, but with that range, it must be FCC? I am in the US but have a hack so my Air 2S is in FCC everywhere I travel. The Air 2S has a significantly shorter range in CE.

      @@peterinpensacola yeah it’s an amazing location for it - people normally take boats to it to fly drones and capture footage. The first 5km out flight was done with CE mode - signal started to falter around 4.5km onwards at lower altitudes. The long distance 10km flight was done in FCC mode

    Is it bugs causing the dramas 🎭 with the vision sensors? I’m in Aus and we do have an excessive amount of bugs so it might be a “me problem”, but one day I had a drone go nuts and I happened to hit the button to look down and it was getting swarmed by bees. I had to go to sports mode to lose them (and then ride 🚲 like crazy out of there) I wonder if the sensors are so good now that they are picking up tiny bugs 🤔

      @@tt00 I think it’s more due to flying over water - maybe reflections, lack of visual reference points etch. The drone exhibits this behaviour most when over water. I’d be mighty impressed if the sensors can now pick up bugs! Seagulls - yes!!

    Amazing video thanks very much. That video on its own has shown people those forts which is something that most of us will never be able to see. Thanks for that. These rules about LOS, i get it but it would be much better if it was an advisory rather than law because its so subjective. For instance weather, eyesight, light conditions. Also, my pal (who is extremely experienced and a much better pilot than I) did a flight over a cliff-edge to film caves up in the north of Scotland. Using the LOS law would have put him in a dangerous position. Anyway, I'm rambling on now. Great video and great advert for the Air3s.

Obviously as a RUclipsr I can’t advocate rule breaking without stirring up an angry mob but technology is advancing so quick, rules should really be adapted a bit. I’m so glad some people see the visuals as the main take away from this though. I also loved seeing these historical structures up close

      Interesting. I think it’s simply due to the moving texture of water upsetting the position sensors. Best way to get around it is to turn vision/collision sensors off or switch into sport mode

    Awesome long distance video! Wonder if you can program it with one battery with waypoints to record when it reaches the spot then send it out with a fresh battery to do the recording would it do it and return? I love that you can do that but Im questionable in that distance

      @@luisrodriguez3009 pretty sure you can do this yes. Waypoints and actions such as start filming or take photos can be programmed and that path reflown if you saved the flight path

      @@prashanthkn6843unless you want to go all out with dlog m and colour grade, I’d use the following. Use ND filter to bring your shutter speed to 1/60-1/100 while iso is on auto and just about drops to 100 in the brightest parts of the shot you want to expose properly. Then frame your shot and use exposure lock to fix the exposure settings. This will give you a fixed exposure which looks more professional but also lets the drone capture HDR footage.

    Question? How were you legally able to do this considering VLOS? I personally have the Mini 4 Pro and wish I could go out to places like this, or wish I could go up to some somewhat far areas I'm curious about such as a cafe that disappeared on a beach or something that looks interesting in the distance. (I assume you requested a flight plan though.)

      @@PlutoPlays1 this wasn’t technically legal - hence why the pilot stayed anonymous. However we deemed that due to there being no nearby airports and no properties or public in the designated area, risk was extremely minimal. Essentially it was naughty but not entirely irresponsible. BVLS flights I believe are very hard to get permission for and would require a special license.

Happy though that precautions were taken though, and that it was looked into instead of just a guy launching it and following absolutely nothing, also absolutely amazing video!       9.5km out and 9.5km back so 19km in total. Taking battery to 0 would have probably made it go 22km total

    Now I understand why leaving collision sensors switched on consumes so much battery power. Before watching this video clip I thought those sensors consumed power simply due to the computing those sensors require. Now I understand that the sensors cause oscillations of the airframe that drain a lot of battery power. No FCC or CAA where I live so I can apply the wisdom found in this clip every time I fly my drones 6 miles out.

    Flawless. Your video is confident.
    The cost of loss in water is high.
    The drone is expensive.
    You put your own risk on other people sitting in the warmth of the computer and you succeeded.
    Great video. excellently presented by commentary and inputs.
    I have been flying since 2017 with DJI drones from the Phantom 2 V+, Phantom 3S and Mavic 1 pro and from 2018 to today the Mavic 2 Zoom.
    The longest route from me and back to landing was 6km overland along the road...
    That was the maximum.
    You flew 9.5km and above the water...!
    Beautiful, thumbs up.
    I have looked and am writing from the Czech Republic .

      I don’t think it’s too deep but very impressive that they’ve survived 80 years in the water. Quite a few windows are even still intact

      @@andre1987eph I think the range is pretty similar but not sure - battery life is about the same but then it comes down to which drone is more efficient at flying distance. The air3 and air3s do have dual cameras and the 70mm is a very nice camera to have. Big issue at the moment which I’ve also noticed with the air3s is moire effect and flickering in bright areas. It also has a fairly large amount of chromatic aberration compared to the Mavic3 drones. So I’d say for features it’s the air3 and air3s but for camera quality at 24mm the Mavic 3 still wins

    My friend can do it around 10.2KM out and 10.2KM back.
    Also, you should show the windage ball so we can see the wind direction when u fly.

      @@calvin14888yeah I’d think even 11km would theoretically be possible but things can happen. I had my Mavic 3 suddenly shave off 10% of battery in a second once - if that happens out at sea at long range you’re screwed lol. Good idea about the wind ball

      @@ironian24 im sure better range is possible - my pilot landed at 12% and 7% was used filming so probably 11-12km flights (24km round trip) are possible.

    i would have thought that just turning off the downward sensors would have cured that “bucking” problem. It was interesting to see those fortifications and it appeared that there were more further out

      Yes turning of the sensors would have had the same effect I think. The bucking problem did also occur at quite high altitudes - 50+ meters.

      @@TheDeadlyraptor it was extremely good visibility (you can actually see the other set of forts in the background in a few clips) but wind was there - very minor but in the wrong direction

      Oh im nowhere near on DJI‘s radar to be gifted drone so I have to buy them all with my own money. Means I can give completely honest opinions though

    We should discuss that issue with the drone pulling up every few seconds when in Normal Mode. Thats a big problem if it happens all the time everywhere...I need to test my 3S and see if it exhibits that behavior.

      @@davidarmenphoto I think it’s more common when flying over water- just seems to be playing havoc with the obstacle or downward sensors. You can get around it by switching off obstacle detection or switching into sport mode like I did. The funny thing is you’d never know it’s happening unless you see the drone in third person view.

      @@dronewilder5234 Okay if it’s just over water that’s acceptable! Because that does happen with my Air 3 if I am trying to fly fast when very close to the ground (>10ft). So I assume the reflectivity of the water confuses the drone into thinking it is much closer to the water than it actually is.
      And yes, the gimbals are insanely good!! 0.0037 degrees of precision is no joke!

      @@riparianlife97701 yes- tbh even the air3 before this had a very slightly longer flight time (on paper). It’s more the concept of exploring turning up at a place to reach a hard to get to remote location and generating some videos even in sub optimal conditions (wind direction etc).

      @@Smigster it was CE mode for the 5km test and FCC for 10km. The signal was starting to take a hit at 5km in CE mode at lower altitudes and we had to maintain low altitude in order to avoid risk of being hit by higher winds on the homeward leg of the journey

    My experience for long range testing is not to fly in sports mode cause you might get too fast and using more energy per KM than in normal mode. Instead, disable the sensors in the app and fly in normal mode. Not shooting video also helps saving some juice, but when you do such things you want to take a video, of course.

      @@tomseen5740 yes for that reason we limited the speed in sports mode down to 54kmh. Another way of course would have been to just disable obstacle detection in normal mode but we wanted to be able to switch into normal mode with obstacle detection on

    Hi I have a question for you. I have the mavic mini and I fly it with propeller protection (because I am new pilot) but everytime I try to fly it with propeller protection it really shakes and I am scared about make it fall from sky. What can I do?

      Take off the propeller protection, get DJI Care refresh and stop worrying! Prop protectors will actually invalidate your DJI warranty too, so don't use them!

      The prop guards shouldn’t make it shake. Have you checked that the props aren’t damaged? A little bit of movement of the drone - especially with a bit of wind is absolutely normal however

      @@dronewilder5234 I've seen reports in Facebook forums (so... caveat emptor) that some prop guards can cause poor flight characteristics. I've also seen replies from DJI support saying they will invalidate warranty and shouldn't be used...

      @@dronewilder5234 No they are not damaged and I realized when I use propeller protection the wind can easily blow away my drone I do not know what to do though (my second reason of using propeller protection is the crows are attacking my poor drone :(

    VLOS for an Air is like 300m, and that's being really generous. Nice that you acknowledged that you were doing something clearly illegal, but safe. It should be legal, the laws are dumb.

      @@NilsTillander thats true - the thing is when rules get too confined people are more likely to break them and then as the saying goes - in for a penny, in for a pound. Better would be to get reasonably attainable BVLOS regulations and licences into the system and encourage people to fly BVLOS responsibly. I can guarantee 99% of drone flyers break some of the rules at some point as it stands.

      @@dronewilder5234 Oh, I'm absolutely sure they do. I do as well, as much as I try not to. A3 regulations in Norway are just making flying anything Enterprise near impossible. The Swiss are, to my knowledge, the only one with actually useable legal language for A3...
      BVLOS waivers and "with agreement of the land owner and of everyone on site" waivers should be made easier to get, with a more transparent process.

    У нас в одну сторону air3 обычный старый - в одну сторону ровно на 20км запустили - он назад смог вернуться только 5км- его потом подобрали на авто, поэтому 9.5км это не предел - возьмите ровно 15км и назад! Приятного полета! Mini4pro тоже так же прыгает в полете как лягушка - выходит это датчики зрения такой эффект дают.

    I have always believed that line of sight makes sense but in reality seldom works out. In hot climates heat waves can cause distortions at random times as well as glare. I try to follow the spirit of the law

    Nice, but no match for my modified parrot disco drone .....over 60 mile range..over 2 hour flight time and still have live hd video feed to my controller using a 4G sim card mod....
