Hey bro, I'm planning to buy DJI Air 3s since there are not many restrictions on using them in the Philippines, unlike in other countries. What FPS do you use when recording a video using your drone? 30 or 60 FPS?

I could see the drone just a few meters on the wrong side of the tide which was rushing in and I could not get to it if the battery completely died. I finally safely landed my drone with 11% battery remaining. The other pilot had the same problem where his drone parked itself out over the sea and refused to budge when he tried to bring it home manually. He thought he'd lost it at first and walked off the beach, but he went back out again and found it hovering in the air. Only a few days before this all happened, there was a firmware update for the drones. A few weeks ago I tried to replicate this problem of the drone refusing to cancel "RTH" and give control back to me. Either through User Stupidity, or something else, when I pressed the "RTH" pause button, the drone would refuse to move other than up or down. I'd say that this is a scary consequence of the firmware update in September.
why did you not switch over to Sport mode to overcome the wind ? , if you find yourself stuck again fighting the wind to get home, drop height and fly back to yourself in a zig-zag pattern as you move forwards , sailboats do the same thing when having to sail into a wind and no motor , it is called tacking into the wind , look it up for more info

Very useful comparison thanks. I presume all the still comparisons are taken from D-Log M graded video? As mainly a still photographer, any opinions on DNG comparisons with the Mini 4 Pro and Air 2S?
I have the Mini 4 and the Air 3, I almost got dragged into the tech upgrade to the Air 3 S but this review has to date has cause me to hold back. The Air 3 and the S as you correctly state have limitation on their operational use, I love the Air 3, the speed to get to a shoot is mad, that said the noise is really loud at full chat. If you don’t do much low light work the Air 3 prices have plummeted since the air 3S has released, like you said the prices have fallen rapidly (that Air 3 camera is comparative with the 4pro) but you get that added 70mm telephoto lease which is very useful. There is also that wind to consider with the mini range.
That's a very nice comparison. Don't know about the drone legals in UK, but the smaller C0 drone often could fly where the bigger ones were not allowed to. And of course if you're doing this on hiking trips / vacation etc. less noise is very important. What annoyes me though is that almost all RUclipsr don't seem to have a clue about how Codecs work, claiming a little lower max bitrate in a new gen cam / drone has to lead to lower video quality, not knowing that even 50mbits were a ridiculous high bitrate for e.g. 4k/30 If - and that's the important matter - the compressor part of the codec does a good job. Unfortunately most suck, in fact they're so bad they need ridiculous high bitrates to cover their weakness (and that's not a matter of H.254 etc.). So It's quite believable when DJI claims they could improve compressor quality with same or even lower bitrate in a new generation device.
Great review Ian, I’ve currently got the Air2 and now time to upgrade, been looking at the Air3s since it came out, but also like the mini 4pro. My main use of the drone is when I’m hiking in the Scottish highlands. My main concern is always wind resistance. Any thoughts on which one to get, I’ve saved up enough for either. Thanks Frank
Definitely an Air3 either standard or S or better yet, a refurb Mavic 3 or a Classic. A mini will fly in 25mph winds but filming might be affected by any gusts. The bigger drones are more stable and can provide smooth footage in higher winds. Mini series only advantage is reduced restrictions in built up areas.
Not upscaled, apparently it is an HDR sensor similar to air 2. 50/4 mp color filter with a 50mp sensor. This way the 4 pixels behind each color can be exposed differently to get HDR in every frame.
Thank you for talk with the true. It's so necesary listen a seriusly point of view between so many DJI brand youtubers, traying to sell us their drones.
Nice video there buddy, like your friend Alex I also film a lot of construction type videos for various clients, I have the mini 4 pro and mavic 3 pro, the 2 of them cover all my needs and the 3 lens option on the mavic means I can get some very cool close shots where no one is the wiser.
the N on the banner wasnt to tell you the 3S was in night mode lol , might have been a slip of the tongue, but for new owners it is the position indicator for the 3 way switch for flight modes .
Apologies on the incorrect labelling. It’s being cut out so thanks for pointing out. But it’s still worth looking at Neat comparisons. The Night mode has been removed from the Air3s so it’s likely there is extra in camera noise reduction when it’s dark
Air 3s will be my drone for 3 years! As a hobbiest, I sell my drone every 3 years. I hope this investment for this drone will suffice my excitement. By the way, thank you for emphasizing that we should buy gadgets for a long term use and you are correct also that drone devalue fast compared to other gadgets.. I put this in mind already and I am ready whether this Air 3s of mine be sold after 3 years for about 50%-70% off. I know the consequences already. Thank you. Best regards, from Philippines.
In my experience so far the Air 3S is much quieter than the Mini. They might be similar dB but the Air 3S is a lower pitch which makes it disappear in the air so fast. I love it so far
I really want the Air 3S but the Mini 4 Pro won While it's slightly worse in video quality, it can fly without registration which is less of a trouble when travel. If I really want to get into a trouble of registration, I would get something much more better than the Air3S
Great video man! I mostly use my mini 3 pro for Instagram. Still trying to decide if I'd prefer to wait for the mini 5 pro to keep shooting the true vertical or grab a 3s and get that 2.7k crop on the 70 mm for the compression. Would love if they come out with a dual lens on the mini 5 pro, but seems unlikely since they'd need to find a way to keep it under 250g and not compete with the air line.
Absolutely correct. The shills are all about. I have the 4 mini , the air 3 and the Mavic 4 pro. The bigger ones are for special jobs. Photography jobs the mini 4 fills the odd shot that helps. The video is far superior on the Mavic. I don’t want to just upgrade. It’s too closely. My lens last for many years.
I purchased a 3s this week and been out twice with it so far guessed b straight away! I def think the 3s is the next level up it’s amazing but elephant In the room stricter regulations over the 4. I have both will use the 3s where I can
4:50 - "I like to focus on what I'm doing..." meanwhile antennas are positioned in the worst way. Yes - I know it doesn't matter too much, I just found that funny :) Anyway, really enjoyed the video, as always - I'll keep enjoying my Mini 4 Pro, pass on this one I think. Thanks Ian!
Have to admit that I'm drooling over the Air 3s, except for one minor detail. I have more leeway, as a hobbyist, about where I can fly my Mini 4 drone. The incredible Air 3s would sit on a shelf gathering dust while my Mini 4 would be able to go almost anywhere within the constrictions of its usage. I really like the way that you grade your episodes especially the first few seconds of this episode. Would it be possible for you to tell me what you do in Resolve to achieve this, and if you use Log or a standard colour profile in the cameras that you film with?
I’m exactly the same. I can see that I would end up taking both drones on trips. That’s fine for drone specialists but when I have tripods etc. it ends up too much. I’ll wait if I have a strong need for the Air3s first
Not just restrictions. I can’t tell you how often I’ve been somewhere where people are, and its quiet, and no way I’d blast off an A3s. I’d launch the mini 90% of the time anyway.
My opinion is the air 3 S has a better picture quality. Plus it looks sturdier..but I believe it's 700g compared to the por 4 mini. Where can they be used without being tethered? Or am I reading the wrong rubbish somewhere
I need a help if you want to im thinking of buying dji drone and i can buy dji air 3s with normal basic controler or i can buy dji mini 4 pro fly more combo or with rc2 and save some money for nd filtres
DJI Won’t Put a 1” sensor on Mini-Series drones. It will no longer be 249g, the smallest and the most quiet. I agree that it depends on storytelling, you don’t need 3x all the time, but you need to have an additional lens for flexibility. You will have moments where you would say - “I wish I had 3x Lens here”.
They definitely could use a 1" sensor, by removing the camera's mechanical rotation hardware and using open gate instead. Also, more weight savings by ditching the unnecessary and annoying OA system which simply can't be relied on.
Look up the review by amy. She tells it like it is. Both havd FIXED Aperture. The Air3S sounds like a lawnmower. No way of flying unnoticed. Very annoying and probably the reason why a lot of people dislike drones flying near them. Yeah, even at safe distances. Fiddling with ND filters? What about rapid changing weather conditions? The mini is much more portable, has the exact same sensor as the AIR 3 ( Which is sufficient), is far more inconspicuous when in flight ( less noisy) and is about 350$ cheaper.
if weather is changing, then simply alter shutter speed a little. and no, it doesnt ruin footage just because your shutter isn't absolutely dead on x2 frame rate. if it ends up being high at 1/200 etc, then add a little motion blur in post.
you said the 3S took of somewhere on RTH so where did it go ? Cant say I have ever had a problem with RTH on all the ones I have owned , I have bought them from the very first Phantom the one without a camera or viewing screen , you really did have to keep it in eyesight back then . 🤣
Air 3s has great video but I don’t care for the heavy magenta color profile. I find magenta can be one of the harder colors to edit out. Also the photography side of the air3s is not good at all. I think if you use drones for photography skip the air 3s. The 70mm for photos is almost not useable unless you have perfect lighting. As far as for work in my real estate photography the air3s is a paper weight and not useable for higher quality imaging. The Mavic 3 is my go to for all business photos. The air 3s shadows, highlights, colors, and noise in photos is just no good. I only see video comparisons with air 3s. Not many people talking about the photography side of the drone. I will use the air 3s for video work in log profile, but for photos it’s grounded for the most part. I been trying to run test as much as I have time for but made the mistake trying to use it on a job. Was an editing nightmare and took a lot of time to get it close to being usable. I mean if you don’t have freedom in your country and can’t fly a Mavic 3, then you probably wont be as disappointed. I honestly feel for people living in anti drone parts of the world. Makes me thankful every day. That is until the corrupt political system in USA just out right bans them. 😂😅. Then the other parts of the world will be like Ha! How about that Mr USA I can fly my mavic 3 anywhere I want. Oh wait it’s banned. 😂
totally agree about the photo side of the 3s. i do real estate photos too and i tried the 3s in the fake 50mp upscale mode and it had lots of chromatic ap in the trees and tiles on the roof. and it's impossible to remove in post. purple, yellow, red, you name it and it ruined the photos. lot's of others i noticed have said the same about the 50 and 48mp upscale on the mini and the 3/3s causing this chroma issue. best to just use the true 12mp on those drones as much cleaner with no chroma artifacts...or just use the 20mp on air 2s and mav 3 like you say. luckily the real estate companies don't care too much about super detail so 12mp is enough for me. oh and yes, 3s and min 4 both have high magenta in them but i found the mavic 3 had bit too much green tint in dlog and dlogm. both easy to fix with a little white balance work. the 3s has slightly better video quality despite the lower bitrate compared to the older mav 3. and in low light the new 1 inch sensor is better with the higher dynamic range, but the 70mm only good during the day really.
Of course Mavic 3 Classic is louder. It’s the biggest and bestest drone. It’s not that bad in sound compared to other drones. My OG Avata is the absolute worst. I am waiting patiently on the Mini 5 Pro because of all the nice features on the new Air 3s you know much of that will probably be on the future Mini 5 Pro! I mostly want this drone because of the Anti-Karen Capabilities! 😮
A very well-done and authentic comparison, thank you for not being one of those “buy my beginner cheat sheet” guys! We now have so many incredibly good drones on the market. Especially as a hobbyist, we are definitely exposed to the shark tank of the marketing department. At some point, development either stops or at least stalls. This somehow has to be compensated for. I fly with a Mini 3 Pro. It’s said that it performs better in Active Track mode than the 4 Pro. Why? Because the 4 Pro, with its advanced sensors, demands more processing power, leading to longer response times despite having the same starting weight. My first drone was an Air 2. I had to update it to be compliant with European regulations and get a C-label. The Mini 3 Pro was added to my collection, and I didn’t (and couldn’t) give up the larger Air 2. At the price of an Air 3, I was able to purchase a used (repaired by DJI) Mavic 3. When it comes to “technical devices,” the original Mavic 3 is like an old grandmother. It was literally left aside back then because it was priced too high. Combined with its incomplete release, it was a setback for DJI. BUT what more could you want? I find the quality of my original Air 2 in the built-in zoom camera. The Micro 4/3 sensor isn’t yet “stacked” from a marketing standpoint, but who cares? Complaining at that level is really nitpicking. My personal prediction for the Mavic 4: A stacked Micro 4/3 Hasselblad sensor with an additional LIDAR system. Whether the Mini 5 Pro will also have “only” LIDAR in terms of camera technology remains to be seen. One thing seems clear, though: Below the flagship drones, you’ll find EVERYTHING your heart desires…
I do have all mini4 pro, air3 and now air3s...image/video quality of 3S even in broad daylight is way superior to other two.also clearly better dynamic range on the air3s side, with others two i easily get blown highlights, to compensate it, i have to apply -0,7 -1EV otherwise no chance. Air3s is clearly handles much better. Also lenses on the previous drones are simply garbage, on the corners, even under direct sunlight, lenses on the air3 and mini4 pro can not show acceptable details, it's all washed out, only in the center sharpness& resolution is acceptable. Lens on the air3s give a lot more detail on the corners. air3s is a clear winner in image quality. i'm not comparing flight performance between air3/s and mini4 pro, as it's totally in different league.
The drone to buy right now is the Air 3 as a refurb direct from DJI..... £739 Go on, you know it makes sense. Me I'm sticking with the Mini 2, does everything I need.
The mini 4's video quality is absolute shit. The quality is that of an early 2000's DSLR. You would think they could make up for it in this time and age where mirror less cameras have much better resolution. I'm tempted to just glue my mirrorless camera to it to get what I want if DJI can't figure this simple shit out.
brilliant honest review AT LAST - we need more guys like you. Thanks... :)
I am rocking the mini 3 and is perfect for me
Air3s is rockier and perfecter 😅
Great comparison video and loved the masking transition using the crane 👍

Thanks
Frank
Definitely an Air3 either standard or S or better yet, a refurb Mavic 3 or a Classic.
A mini will fly in 25mph winds but filming might be affected by any gusts.
The bigger drones are more stable and can provide smooth footage in higher winds.
Mini series only advantage is reduced restrictions in built up areas.
@ cheers mate, yeh kinda swaying towards the Air3s with its larger sensor don’t really mind carrying the extra weight.
My pleasure!
Nice video there buddy, like your friend Alex I also film a lot of construction type videos for various clients, I have the mini 4 pro and mavic 3 pro, the 2 of them cover all my needs and the 3 lens option on the mavic means I can get some very cool close shots where no one is the wiser.
Thank you for this peaceful video! I feel very ZEN now and informed. 🙏
the N on the banner wasnt to tell you the 3S was in night mode lol , might have been a slip of the tongue, but for new owners it is the position indicator for the 3 way switch for flight modes .
I really want the Air 3S but the Mini 4 Pro won
While it's slightly worse in video quality, it can fly without registration which is less of a trouble when travel.
If I really want to get into a trouble of registration, I would get something much more better than the Air3S
enjoyed your content, I think we all prefer to fly the larger drones, un-involved people that restrict you.
You always delivered amazing comparism tho. 😊👌🏾👌🏾
Best Mini 4 Pro Use Case: Illegal Flights where you have to stay undercover. LOL
"BUY MY BEGINNER CHEAT SHEETS!!" 😂😂😂
its the camera settings that have to be set for what your doing?
Cheers so much 😊
Very intensive ❤
I'd like to see a mini with that 70 mill equivalent ❤
I’d love that but I can’t see that ever happening with the weight limitations
@Ian.A.Anderson so true, be great if they reduced battery size
Cosa ne pensi del Air2S?
È il drone che uso di più e lo trovo ancora il migliore (non ho Mavic 3!).
I purchased a 3s this week and been out twice with it so far guessed b straight away! I def think the 3s is the next level up it’s amazing but elephant In the room stricter regulations over the 4. I have both will use the 3s where I can
Did you have any issues with customs if your from the US? @fishdiaries
Just curious as to what stricter regulations you are talking about with the 3S?
4:50 - "I like to focus on what I'm doing..." meanwhile antennas are positioned in the worst way.
Yes - I know it doesn't matter too much, I just found that funny :)
Anyway, really enjoyed the video, as always - I'll keep enjoying my Mini 4 Pro, pass on this one I think. Thanks Ian!
You can’t position them upwards with the sunhood. Still gets a good enough signal
@Ian.A.Anderson you can? I have the same hood
Very good test. I wonder that among the four drones which has the most realistic color?
Portability and no permits in a lot of places makes mini 4 pro an easy win for a traveler like me.
I could not find comparision between air 3 vs air3s night video 1inch vs 1/3
Right… strapping in for this one😂😂
Main deciding factor for me are Dronelink supported drones.
4 Pro provides visual better colors and dynamic range. I had the same observation watching another comparison video
Hi there I'm in the market a drone where is more likely to be very windy which model would you recommend
My opinion is the air 3 S has a better picture quality. Plus it looks sturdier..but I believe it's 700g compared to the por 4 mini. Where can they be used without being tethered? Or am I reading the wrong rubbish somewhere
why didn't u add the chapter/timeline??
First time I've seen your channel new Sub Great video
PS it looked like you shot 12MB instead of 48MB on the Mini 4 Pro ?
I need a help if you want to im thinking of buying dji drone and i can buy dji air 3s with normal basic controler or i can buy dji mini 4 pro fly more combo or with rc2 and save some money for nd filtres
DJI Won’t Put a 1” sensor on Mini-Series drones. It will no longer be 249g, the smallest and the most quiet. I agree that it depends on storytelling, you don’t need 3x all the time, but you need to have an additional lens for flexibility. You will have moments where you would say - “I wish I had 3x Lens here”.
I think it’s a must for a drone specialist. Videographers tend to be happy with the wide angle
They definitely could use a 1" sensor, by removing the camera's mechanical rotation hardware and using open gate instead.
Also, more weight savings by ditching the unnecessary and annoying OA system which simply can't be relied on.
@@grahamniven are you high?
Eight miles.
i was taught lots on cameras ty!
Drone B had better fidelity at a long distance of those houses on the mountain.
when do you think the mavic 4 is out people say in a few months?
I’m not following rumours. My friend thinks it’s close though
11:39 shots fired at dm productions shill tuber confirmed
🤣
😂 I also thought that when I heard the accent.
My 3s RTH is broken almost crashed twice. Haven't tried it again
Sounds like you’re having the same experience as I did. Mine just went crazy. RUclipsrs seem to be making out it’s an ‘upgrade’ RTH🤔
Hello I live in a really windy area, air 3s was a no brainer for me the mini can’t,limits the areas I can fly safely
you said the 3S took of somewhere on RTH so where did it go ? Cant say I have ever had a problem with RTH on all the ones I have owned , I have bought them from the very first Phantom the one without a camera or viewing screen , you really did have to keep it in eyesight back then . 🤣
It went the opposite direction it was meant to go and nearly crashed into a tree. Alex hasn’t had any problems since though with it
Mini 5 pro highly unlikely to get 1inch sensor due to weight constraints
me personally, im waiting for mav 4 classic with var aperature and twin lense
A few of my drone friends are saying the same
1:42... yes, easily...shockingly...
air 3S has a higher more colored contrast default profile.
like they stole ideas from Autel.
I could tell just from the first 2 seconds that it was air3s for drone b , quality of image was much sharper and clear
Sure, with a good quality 4k monitor
@@Ian.A.Anderson on a FHD monitor as well lol
totally agree about the photo side of the 3s. i do real estate photos too and i tried the 3s in the fake 50mp upscale mode and it had lots of chromatic ap in the trees and tiles on the roof. and it's impossible to remove in post. purple, yellow, red, you name it and it ruined the photos. lot's of others i noticed have said the same about the 50 and 48mp upscale on the mini and the 3/3s causing this chroma issue. best to just use the true 12mp on those drones as much cleaner with no chroma artifacts...or just use the 20mp on air 2s and mav 3 like you say. luckily the real estate companies don't care too much about super detail so 12mp is enough for me. oh and yes, 3s and min 4 both have high magenta in them but i found the mavic 3 had bit too much green tint in dlog and dlogm. both easy to fix with a little white balance work. the 3s has slightly better video quality despite the lower bitrate compared to the older mav 3. and in low light the new 1 inch sensor is better with the higher dynamic range, but the 70mm only good during the day really.
nice vid but think i will still stick with my M4P for my travels.....up till now ;)
Good choice. I prefer to spend the budget on getting to locations
@Ian.A.Anderson it's not just budget it's also restrictions and space
Of course Mavic 3 Classic is louder. It’s the biggest and bestest drone. It’s not that bad in sound compared to other drones. My OG Avata is the absolute worst.
I am waiting patiently on the Mini 5 Pro because of all the nice features on the new Air 3s you know much of that will probably be on the future Mini 5 Pro!
I mostly want this drone because of the Anti-Karen Capabilities! 😮
i no air 3s is like a flying brick compared to mini 4 pro?
1:46 trees are much nicer on the air 3s
I guessed wrong with the first test. FR. I think the Air3S has bad chips in it.
good idea thanks Sincerely Rob
Unmatched 🙃
I got it right. I think it was the greens that got me.
Close though isn’t it until you crop in
@@Ian.A.Anderson yeah it was close. I guess it's because I'm going out weekly and filming Bristol Zoo. Lots of green.
@@Ian.A.Andersonyour hat link, have you scrolled down and seen the brilliant photo shop of the man "wearing" the hat?
DOF is so clear
buy my beginner cheat cheats 😆 awesome comparison mate but ille be sticking with the mini 4 pro just to the restrctions where you can fly the air3s
Yeah I’m happy for now to have used it for the day
N mode is not night mode. its NORMAL mode. of course it does not go to night mode
Apologies for the incorrect label (it’s being cut out). But the point about the extra night in camera noise reduction is still valid
I could tell!!!
I agree about the lens
From sri lanka ❤️
lol i have both must have misunderstood question sry
The drone to buy right now is the Air 3 as a refurb direct from DJI..... £739 Go on, you know it makes sense.
Me I'm sticking with the Mini 2, does everything I need.
I have actually been looking at that. I saw a second hand deal £750 flymore combo. Absolute steal
darn
B is much better
a
The mini 4's video quality is absolute shit. The quality is that of an early 2000's DSLR. You would think they could make up for it in this time and age where mirror less cameras have much better resolution. I'm tempted to just glue my mirrorless camera to it to get what I want if DJI can't figure this simple shit out.
Yes I could tell the B is the AIR 3S right away, with more details.
Cheers! 😀
Fantastic drone video please add me
