    1st thing came to mind when saw the thumbnail; I think he likes the Norica 😁 I like the exercise. Almost all my shots are free hand. I so far, obey use open sights on anything I shoot. I only purchase open sight toys. That may change - I’m very interested in JTS THUNDERLANCE, that hasn’t freaking been released yet! At shot show they said , November. 🤨

      @@bayouflats5054 This video was really run to film. 😄 I’m definitely liking the recoilless nature of this gun, I think it allows a shooter to be more accurate than they typically would be with a standard springer or gas ram gun. Not having to modify the way you hold the gun or alter your shooting style around the recoil habits of a particular springer/gas ram gun makes things more fun.
      I’m having a desire to start shooting more of my guns with open sights just to see how both I and the guns do. Cheers!

    Super sweet shooting! The one leaf commander scope is a freaking awesome scope. Mine is on my Benjamin F&T Marauder and it's superbly accurate, If you are going to shoot open sights, I think 30 yards is great distance but if you can manage 50 yards you are a true marksman. Ok sent it back , after reading and looking at all of the reviews, I do not think that it will be a consistent enough pellet gun for me so I didn’t even open up the box just sent it back. I did shoot my HW 97 yesterday and it is the best built gun I have seen in 15 years. Only thing. Comparable was my freedom arms 357 in quality not joking point shooting with no site on the gun. I hit my 50 yard gong twice my 62 yard gong once and put a pellet in a water barrel at 72 yards with no sites my first four shots with a gun. I think I’ll stop playing around with all these other type and get real serious with this 97 . thank you for all of your reviews and cold-weather reports you did help make up my mind. I just couldn’t except something less than the best at my age. Pellet on pellet is very important especially when you’re old and probably got an 8 inch woggle as it is.

      @ it was pretty eye opening earlier in the week. I tried shooting the same silhouettes I was nailing with my Norica and I wasn’t hitting for shit with the expensive German springer. It got me thinking about what a pain in the ass it is dealing with springer recoil. It’s pretty unnatural to hold a rifle so light and gingerly in order for it to be accurate. I’m glad you liked the video and thanks for commenting. 😀👍 I really like my Norica, it’s so easy and pleasant to shoot. Just know going into it that due to the way the scope mounts there will be a trade off in ultimate accuracy when using a scope. With open sights it’s dead on. With a scope the groups (at least on mine) don’t stay as consistently tight as they could. The gun is certainly capable, but the tolerances to have a recoiling action and solidly mounted scope create some variation in the groups.

After all the ups and downs with the Norica I expected to see the chassis with can opener marks on it.....That was a really good sum up, yes its possible it may be off a little with a scope, but its so smooth. I would love to try cans at 50 if I could pick them out !!! Had the Sheridan at 20 1st time today and that was good fun.

      I’m interested in possibly modifying the tube on one of these guns but I’d want to buy a spare tube to try it on. I suspect it’ll be easy to screw something up.
      I noticed with my Benjamin pumpers that the open sights seemed to max out at 20 yds. My 397S is capable of easily hitting targets accurately at 50 yds but I have to use a scope to do as the rear leaf sight doesn’t have enough elevation adjustment.
      They do make a Williams peep sight for the Benjamins that might allow for longer distance shooting but I’ve not looked into it.

Back along you painted can bottoms, i might suggest doing that, It seems like on the ice and snow, the can kinda blends in, or maybe just get some bright colored round stickers to put on can bottoms. I have the PelletGage in .22 and .177 and I'll warn you that they will trick you on some pellets. Crosman pellets tend to have flashing along their length that prevents them from passing through the proper hole in the gauge much of the time. It seems to be a bigger deal with Crosmans because they are a harder alloy than most other pellets and the flashing doesn't easily shear off when you put it through the gauge hole. That leads you to mistakenly believe that the pellet head is bigger than it really is. At least that's been my experience over the last 5 or 6 years that I've had the gauges.

    • @airgunsofalaska
      @airgunsofalaska  27 дней назад

      @@mrhalfstep That’s interesting and thanks for the info! This Norica has been the most picky break barrel I’ve had with pellets being more difficult to seat with your finger. I’ve noticed the tightness of the pellet has an effect on velocity.

    • @mrhalfstep
      @mrhalfstep 27 дней назад

      @@airgunsofalaska When you do start gauging your pellets, as you do the Crosman Domes, add a little pressure to the pellet on the first hole that the pellet won't fit through. It will suddenly pop through. Then try it in the next smaller hole and it may hang up, but with just a tiny amount of additional pressure, it will pop through. You may actually get the pellet to pass through a hole that is .05 mm or 5 holes smaller than it felt like it was originally wanting to pass through. I think it's because it is gradually shaving off the flashing. It's a pain to try 5 different holes to get to the right size, but eventually you'll get to a hole that obviously is too small for the pellet to pass through and that will tell you the true size. Unfortunately you will also have a bunch of different sized pellets from each tin. I find that there are about three sizes that are fairly well distributed, but also a lot of outliers and I think that accounts for why lots of reviewers get fliers that they say "oh, that was probably just me" That's my take on it. Try it yourself and I'll be watching to see if you experience the same thing. I never see it discussed on YT and I don't know if it's my imagination or that others just aren't adding that tiny bit of pressure required to shear the flashing and get down to the true head size.
      Sorry this comment got so long. I guess it's probably hard to read through the long ones. LOL

    I was recently thinking how offhand is a good measure of effectiveness. Like for me comparing the .22 Stormrider to .177 Fortitude. The Stormrider is great for accuracy but it's jumpy and has a very flat stock, where as the Fortitude has much less recoil and the more ergonomic stock makes it easier to hold steady. Say I was battling a rat infestation the Fortitude would likely get more kills for those reasons.

    • @airgunsofalaska
      @airgunsofalaska  26 дней назад +1

      I’m finding it just takes practice. But, not dealing with recoil makes things way easier than the I’d jump and vibration of the typical springer or gas ram gun.

    Still think putting a good red dot on the back rear sight . connected directly to the barrel the red dot would handle the recoil and you would get dead on accuracy for being hooked up directly to the barrel 50 yards a good red dot will pop them cans.. I hit bull’s-eye target with a 22 pistol at 50 yards with a red dot dead on accuracy. Well I used to be able to. I can’t shoot shit with the pistol anymore.i would think a good holosun 507 would fit just right . I have the ice color coming today ,I was going to send it back didn’t like the reports on it in accuracy. With the scope mounted and some fluctuation but with the red dot mounted directly to the barrel that would be gone and if the gun shoots good open sites, then you should have a good shooting gun so I think I’ll keep it for hunting . I got it for 300 new ,same cost as a Gamo just about . thinking it will probably last just as bad as long and hope I can get parts. I was thinking about sending it back in and getting a HW 50 or 80. do have a hw97 .22 , With the trade-in value, I could get a hawke compact air light 24 power scope for the 97 ….what to do ….
