Here’s my first video on my new HW30. I don’t think this airgun is for everyone but it is a really nice shooter. I don’t think it’s all that different from my 80’s vintage Webley Vulcan or RWS Model 36 but that’s part of the charm. It’s really cool that you can still buy a traditional all wood and metal springer airgun from Germany 🇩🇪.

    Great, honest review. I totally agree 100% with your observations. I looked at the synergis before buying my Beeman. You showed me the problems I suspected. The Beeman Mantis is going for around $129 with included cheap scope. Single shot break barrel, metal spring. Shooting Superdomes 8.3 grain at 1000 ft per second, 0.3" groups at 33 yards. Pests taken at 45 yards with heart shots, no problem (with upgraded scope). The Mantis even comes with a silencer. I am very happy loading one pallet at a time and shooting with that kind of accuracy. Not sure who that synergis is for, like you said. Thanks much for the video.

    I agree with what you are saying. Most of the youtube videos out there are just advertisements for high end airguns. It's about the shooting experience for me. Some guns I have are old and shoot amazing and are fun to shoot. My Slavia 630 is one of them. It is a freak'n laser out to about 35 yards and probably would be further if I had a scope on it but I really like irons for the most part. Have a great day.

      @airgunsofalaska 2 дня назад

      @@flashgordon99999 I agree and that’s what I’ve noticed as well. Past a certain price point the you are spending more for a name, luxurious features, unneeded performance, etc. Over the years I got caught up in it to a far more modest extent than what high end guns are going for now. Since I’m in the USA, one always has to compare back to a .22LR for accuracy and performance and the vast majority of the time a super expensive, high end airgun makes no financial sense. In the UK or other countries I can see how things would be different. But, because I’m USA based I’m going to have that perspective. Also, most people’s yards aren’t big enough to utilize the performance of a expensive, high end airgun. It’s kinda like what’s the point? It’s like buying a brand new Corvette when you live in Alaska. We’ve got crappy roads for high speed driving and short summers. You can’t use the full performance of the car. Sure it’s cool, but you’ll actually have more fun in an old Subaru since it’s so much more practical for our location. An old beater Subaru definitely isn’t as cool, but you’ll become a much better driver drifting the Subie on snow covered roads than you’ll ever be in the low ground clearance, RWD only Corvette.

    • @flashgordon99999

      @@airgunsofalaska LOL 100% on everything stated. Especially the Corvette statement. I can have more fun in my Jetta TDI (and for much less fuel and money) than I can short term in a Vette. Also I am a mechanic of 40 years (though now semi retired you could say) and don't want to work on a Vette anymore. LOL True about the .22LR as well. I have a few that I like and sometimes the price of a high end pellet is the same or more than a .22LR round (at least here anyway). I use my airguns more for plinking and sometimes small game hunting. I am fortunate that I live in the bush and range isn't an issue but for those in town YES why would you buy an airgun that is 100 + yard capable for a 20 yard range. I liked your comment on the short summers and couldn't agree more. I have grown to enjoy much less the short summers/long mosquito seasons. Keep on plinking and have a great day .

Nice shooting BTW there Scott 👍🍻 I believe, looking at your most recent video, that your Anniversary 362 has a version of the Williams 5D sight, which has seemingly fewer & cruder adjustment capabilities than even the non-target knob version of the FoolProof... Perhaps a Williams of some variety would be a good choice for testing out on your Daisy 1101S, though I wonder if one would have sufficient elevation adjustment for its rather low front sight? 🤔 Take it easy my friend & stay warm 👍🍻🔥🌡️😁 P.S. 20-25 yards might be the perfect plinking range for econo break-barrels. They may not hit every shot but they hit enough to be enjoyable and inspire additional shooting. More expensive rifles allow that distance to increase and still maintain the “fun” equation. The same thing holds true for pcp rifles. And me personally, I’ll take a $350 pcp over a $600 break-barrel. The reason, more hits at 100 yards with the pcp than the expensive break-barrel. Or that’s my belief. I will admit I don’t own any expensive break-barrels so I’m stating beliefs not backed by personal experience or observed fact. So, can you test this “belief” and see if I’m wrong? Maybe test at 50 yards with your can challenge? Econo springer vs high end springer & econo pcp vs high end springer?

    • @airgunsofalaska
      @airgunsofalaska 2 дня назад

      You bring up excellent points and I could have framed my point of view in the video better. I’m thinking that for the majority of airgunners, the performance and long range accuracy capability of a high end PCP is very much overkill for the average sized yard and how they are used. I’d be limited in the comparison you suggest as I don’t own any break barrel guns in the $600 range. My suspicions are a $350 PCP would likely be just as accurate or probably more so because of lack of recoil. A break barrel in that price range is adding a lot of luxury features that don’t really improve performance i.e. expensive wood and checkering, deep, rich bluing, finely finished machining, etc. I like your ideas of comparisons and could do them both but my nicest break barrel springer would top out at around $400ish in todays money. It would be an interesting comparison. 😄👍

    • @motorgearhead
      @motorgearhead 2 дня назад

      @ or if you decide to actually test upon the theories, I would be excited to see the results. And my personal experience with entry-level PCP‘s are that you probably won’t have any misses at 50 yards on the can bottom challenge. Now granted, I am accustomed to shooting in much more temperate climates than you experience in Alaska probably. In fact, I’m coming back from the range right now where I was trying to get Crossman 14.3 grain hollow points on paper at 200 yards. Why would I think I could accomplish such a lofty goal? I was At The Range last week and was ringing steel at 200 yards with 14.3 grain Crossman’s. So today I was actually going for a group. I knew my hold from last week but today temperatures are in the high 20s were last week. They were in the high 40s. Today all my shots fell approximately 2 1/2 feet low. So I shot three mags and only printed on paper with one hit. The only saving grace is that we’ve got a little bit of snow on the ground and I was able to see the pellets trace there impacts in the snow and grouping was pretty good. I just happen to be about 2 1/2 maybe 3 feet low and I’m going to suspect that might be the difference in air temperature as I know colder air is more dense. I didn’t go to the trouble of punching in my ballistics calculator since I knew what the dope was from last week. So while I can’t say the range outing was a overwhelming success. I can say that I learned something from it in the 14.3 still have the potential of getting on paper and grouping decently from what I’ve seen. My next outing I just need to sort out temperature versus hold and make sure that I’ve got a good firing solution to get on target. Anyhow, I’ve been enjoying your work and what you been posting. Please continue. Cheers from North Carolina.

    It looks to be basically a Daisy 131 other than the polymer (plastic) stock as opposed to wood. I have some of all varieties and like different characteristics of each but break barrels are my least favorite. The idea of a moveable barrel/sights doesn't sit well with me.

      I’m not familiar with the Daisy 131. I believe their earlier break barrel guns were made in Spain and maybe even Scotland? My experience with US branded, made in China air guns is variable. Some are good and others are awful. The German made guns are pretty uniform in their quality which is what you pay for.

    • @airgunsofalaska
      @airgunsofalaska 2 дня назад

      Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to make a blanket statement they are all good. Like I mentioned in the video, I’ve bought a lot of Chinese made turds. This Daisy 1101S/Winchester 1100 has a good reputation for accuracy across numerous RUclips channel tests. My guess is Daisy has better QC than most airgun companies who farm out production to China, Crosman for instance. The Germans make higher quality guns, no question about that. But, DIana is offering Chinese made lower priced models that I suspect are not up to the same standards as their German guns. At that price point are you just paying for a name and getting the same quality as this Daisy? The ones that really get me are the plethora of $200-$300 Chinese made break barrels and under levers from the big name airgun manufacturers that are plastic encased junk. Those guns are not worth buying. And then we have the near constant barrage of marketing for PCP’s on seemingly every YT channel. One would think those are the only way to go. Then add in the compressor, portable air tank and you are quickly into the sport for far more money than necessary. I think the current direction they are going with airguns is wrong but I’m likely in the minority with that.

    • @motorosso3349
      @motorosso3349 2 дня назад

      @@airgunsofalaska I agree with your sentiments although Daisy is still on my Sh*t List. My Chinese made Diana Model P-Five pistol started to shoot well after I did a trigger mod on it and fitted a red dot sight. I think the best bet on air guns is to find nice vintage rifles and pistols. The quality is there on the German and American guns (others, too, I am sure). Plus, they probably won't go down in price. I disagree on the PCP issue although the cost is higher for sure. You only need 1 compressor for multiple guns so that cost is spread out. Also, the performance is on another level especially for hunting and longer ranges. Thanks for your thoughtful reply.

    The shock-absorbing mount is not necessary because this rifle has a system that strongly attenuates vibrations, and it also has 2 holes on the rail to fix the mounts even better, unlike the 52 model which will accommodate the optics.

    Love your video style/content, very relaxing and down to earth. Agree with your point, I dont necessarily want to always see the hot new $3000 UberPCP that has just come out. Good to have an airgun channel that is mostly using 'relatable' guns and the simple classics so to speak. I have a question for you, given that you often shoot in the cold. I have been having issues with my 6 break barrel gas ram rifles when the temperature goes below freezing -- do you think spring pistons or gas ram are better in the cold? It has made me consider getting a springer again for this reason

    • @airgunsofalaska
      @airgunsofalaska 3 дня назад

      @@milesstover3724Thanks for the kind words. I only own two gas ram guns and when I tested my Gamo Swarm Hornet compared to a springer in -4°F the springer was less affected. I did a video with the results a few weeks ago. I’m not a big fan of gas ram guns and am now even less inclined to purchase an airgun with a gas ram. I use Yamahalube CV Axle moly grease on my springers and it has worked well in cold temps.

    The deal with airguns seems to boil down to, is it something that you can pass down to your grandchildren like a nice wood and steel German rifle, or is it something that you will just throw away when the seal wears out or something breaks. Great video to add some inspiration to those that are just getting into the shooting sports. Bottom line is to have fun and that you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to have fun. As often as not you might end up with a very accurate rifle without selling the farm. As a young shooter without the dollars to spend on "the next big thing" I always remembered an old saying born in the heyday of the old west I believe. Fear the man with only one gun as he'll likely be very good with it. This always helped ease the pain of growing up poor, plus it helped improve my marksmanship. LOL

    Great shooting open sights with the Daisy! I love a value air rifle. One that gives good value for the money. That you don't have to fiddle with to make work. Just take it, shoot it, and have fun. After doing the 50 yard can bottom challenge with my LGU I broke out my Gamo Rocket Gray and started shooting 50 yards at the cans. Just guessed and shot until I figure about where to hold over with the stock 4x scope and was actually hitting the cans after a bit. I realized while looking at the video footage I didn't even sight it in before with the FX 15.89 grain pellets. Was using Crosman Premiers before. I did get the LGU can bottom challenge video up. Will edit and upload the video messing around with the Gamo Rocket tomorrow. Hopefully I can do the can bottom challenge with it next. We're on the same page playing with these sub 100.00 airguns.
