    Nice diagnose and repair Steve. Back when I had motorcycles the carb would always get plugged up with shellack from the gas. I used to take the carbs apart and boil the metal parts for about 10 minutes to clean. Reassemble and they would run like new.

    I was doing a carb clean on a snowblower and used air to blow through the gas input and blew out the entrance of the fuel passage and I blew out the needle seat which is only a small piece of rubber about an eighth of an inch diameter and it had flown across the area about 20 feet or so and I looked for it for about an hour and thought oh well I will have to go drive and get one ! When I got back I went to put the new one in and right beside the carb there it was sitting there ! What are the odds of that little seat bouncing off this and that and then ending up right where it came from ! I should have bought a lottery ticket that day !

    Back in the 60’s my dad use to remove the carburetor off the old car and take it apart on the kitchen table, that’s how I learned how to get my hands dirty. Once you tinker with things it’s not so hard after all. I’d rather throw it away than pay someone else to do what I can do. I always say if you don’t try how you going fix a flat out in the middle of nowhere. There’s a self reward when one fixes it themselves🙂. Thank you bro.

    I have the same mower from new always took 10 or 12 pulls to start and then would rev up and down always used good gas and a fine screen funnel some times when it does start i get a lot of blue smoke what could be the trouble

    • @SteveRobReviews

      Bill blue smoke on startup is most likely a restricted air filter most times. The hard starting might just be a quick check of the valve to tappet clearances. Worth a try.

      This is not my exact model, but I'm having similar problems with my Cub Cadet SC300hw model with a 159 2-wheel-drive motor. This happened gradually over a period of time. I heard the motor start making noises that were "chugging" along for about a half hour. I even stopped to let it cool off for an hour. But then after about 20 minutes it stopped working. It started on the first pull and ran for about 15 seconds before shutting off. After that, i could never get it started again - even after cleaning the air filter and changing the oil.
      A friend of mine then came over and checked the sparkplug. He said it was fine. He said the air filter was fine. He said the oil was fine. He then checked the carburetor and the round container under it. He said he expected "yellow water" to be in the round thing under the carburetor, but it actually only had very little water, and it was clear. So, he put everything back. He said he really didn't expect anything to be different, because he hadn't actually changed anything.
      But, when I started it up, this time it continued running. I have only let it go for about five minutes, but at least it didn't shut off. It still did slightly make this "chugging" noises, so I'm concerned what will happen when I need to mow for several hours.
      All of my problems started this year when I decided to take the advice to "maintain" my mower with "Gumout" by putting a little bit of Gumout in the fuel tank. After that, problems happened. The fuel efficiency became far less efficient. And for some reason the mower would shut off by itself even when there was about 25% of gas left in the tank every time. When I filled it back up, it would start and run again. I would recommend people NEVER put Gumout in their gas tank!

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  10 месяцев назад +1

      The gumout most likely gummed out the fuel residue and plugged up the fuel passages temporarily. Just keep using the mower as it's ungummed now :)
