Thank you so much. This helps a lot. My mower starts sputtering after 10 minutes, dies and won’t restart for about 5 minutes. Turns out there was grass/debris partially clogging my fuel line.

my lawn mower wouldn't start when I cleaned the carburetor it started but wouldn't allow me to mow forward but I can mow backwards more so going downhill so basically it was the fuel line and the same thing happen when I try to look through it it was pitch Black so I cleaned it out and reattached it and I still could not mow forward so I know I have to change the fuel line but I thank you for your video

Hay I'm mick from the UK and just started a channel mind if I stick around a bit. I have had nothing but problems with the new style of carbs. I tent to replace them I'd they are over 3 years old a the plastic inside starts break down. A good little fix.
I like those simple logical repairs. Unfortunately there are more complicated one's it seems like. Nice video, take care.

Thank you for posting this video, I was having the same problem, I would of never thought to check the fuel line, but that was the problem, clogged up fuel line.

Have you check the gas cap for a defect. It's probably not venting
If the cap is not properly vented, the gas will not flow freely

My Kohler engine (Lawnboy) the same thing. Only there was a fuel filter INSIDE the fuel line near the tank. I took that out and blew through it --no restriction-- and put it back. Fuel tank flow was fine. Earlier, when I'd taken the carburetor off to clean it, I clamped the fuel line so I never suspected. (I took the carb apart twice because I though I missed something.) After I watched this video, I drained the tank removed the fuel line and sure enough, there was a glob of crap that had somehow gotten past the filter in the line. Voila! I'm running again. Thanks.

My Briggs worked like a charm for 20 yrs before this started happening on my DR 46 lawn mower. Had the carb rebuilt, new line, new (improved filter), use only non-oxy fuel, got it home from the service center and the very first time I operated the unit the same thing happened again. I thought maybe there was some air in it from being worked on, but it continued to happen and has kept on happening. So basically the entire fuel system was either cleaned or rebuilt. I'm at a loss.
Sometime a magneto can malfunction when the mower gets hot.

@@scottgriffith7759 Gotcha. Thanks, so I may be looking at replacing my ignition coil. Was sure it was a fuel system problem, so this is good to know about, even if it doesn't actually solve my problem. Can't hurt, right?
@@TwoCatsUp If you had a good one to borrow off another mower that would keep you from having to buy a new one. Just a suggestion if all other checks fail. The coil would probably be the last thing I checked. Could be as simple as a clogged gas cap.

Tru Fuel eliminates fuel issues. To me it is worth the price for not having engine problems.
Good job! I would have cut open the old fuel line to see if it was dirt or maybe the hose was breaking down and thats why it clogged. If you get chunks of rubber in your carb you have to use a wire to check each passage in the carb. If it was dirt in the hose or the tank you were lucky it didnt clog your new carb! If it was rubber than maybe you were not able to clean the old carb properly because maybe you just soaked it in carb cleaned. Whenever I clean a carb I always flush the tank and check the fuel line. Why clean a carb and hook it back up to a tank or hose filled with dirt?
You have more than your share of clogged fuel lines. What do you think may be causing that?
Newer cars, lawnmowers, chainsaws, quads, etc, are all crap these days, quality is a thing of the past, everything is based around money.

Nice video! I have the same sought of setup. Same carb etc. on the Briggs and Stratton engine. Changed the jet inside the carb. Would you happen to know why it still takes 6/7 pulls before she starts?
Valves may need to be adjusted.
interesting video and what a big help because that would be the last thing i would even think of . did you ever poke out the line to see what the block was ?
I couldn't say for certain, but I've heard that the inside of some fuel lines will deteriorate when soaking in ethanol fuel for too long. I would also check the gas tank and make sure the gas is properly filtered. Add a small filter if necessary.
Maybe the vented fuel cap is plugged not allowing the consumed fuel from of the fuel tank to displace the fuel with air thus creating a fuel vapor lock. Try opening the fuel caps some to see if it results differently..

My Briggs 725 ex had the same problem. Tank was clean, Carb was clean, Yet it would die or sputter. After reaming out the old fuel line. I found that it was swelled and disintegrated inside. Not clogged with debris from yard work. Very cheap fuel line. No wonder briggs is filing for bankruptcy. This is the same machine that came from the factory with a large chunk of the carb gasket missing. Terrible quality control.
Hopefully things will change...
I would have taken a chopstick and reamed that old gas line out, just to see what it was creating the clog......

@@SmallEngineDIY Thx, I'll keep that in mind. Eventually I figured out the fuel delivery problem I was having. The GAS CAP failed. The weep hole became pluged with defective gasket. Impossible to tell looking at it. (Craftsman)

Im having a mower that kind of does the same thing, but its like its a very minor clog. It will die intermittently and re start a minute later. Also sputters if you quickly jerk the mower back. I will try this.
Little blow by. Nothing major, yet. Nah jokes aside, plenty of years left assuming regular maintenance is done. Great fix. Curious if it was crud blockage or hose breakdown.
Mine was kinda the opposite. Started and ran good. About 10 minutes in it would keep stalling. But if I tilted it back to me it would start self up again. I pulled the carb and it was 100% clean. No leaks anywhere and fuel cap vent is working.
Do you still have the mower? If so, check the oil. There might be too much oil.

My craftsman rider lawnmower was doing the same thing, running for a few minutes and engine dies. After some frustrating efforts of repair, it turned out to be a clogged fuel cap. Fuel poured out the hose rapidly when tested, but the three part gas cap had multiple holes which were clogged with gas residue and dirt.
That sounds like a very poorly designed machine with a gas cap issue like that. What make and model?
I remember that scene in the movie "Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines" when the biplane pilot made an impromptu landing in a field and asked a lady to donate a feather from her hat to pipe-clean a blocked fuel line.
Help,found crap in tank,float bowl,changed carb,cleaned tank,thought i had it fixed,still quits running after 10-15 min,i even used large syringe as fuel tank to watch flow & eliminated fuel filter & shut off valve, im thinking some kind of heat issue affecting something?? Your thoughts?
I have a Poulan very familiar to that, on my carburetor where the fuel enter right above it where the red orange circle ⭕️ I have a small white triangle shape that a little smaller than the fuel line where it enters have gas coming out it seems like a tube she be hooked up to it or something, I don’t know. Do you know what it can it possibly be? Thanks
I got B$S 6.25 self propelled mower . I ran it out of gas , stopped for the evening and the next day it will start but only sputters for about 30 seconds never smooths out you think it sucked trash up into the carburetor or maybe something else?

Please don't take it that I'm criticizing you but you should have poured it into a container so you could to visually inspect whatever fuel was inside and if something were to come out your not contaminating your clean gasoline remember I'm not criticizing you I'm just making an observation thank you

Sometimes there are inline fuel filters that gets shoved down in the fuel line and cause a problem. I would have cut the hose to see the obstruction.
These new Briggs and Stratton engines aren't as good as the older engines. I sell mowers and we sell mostly mowers with Honda and Loncin engines as they tend to have proper metal carburettors rather than these cheap plastic carbs with plastic fuel jet. We have sold these engines on machines but advise every customer to use fuel additive or a fuel like ASPEN to prevent this happening.
Shit. I just bought a Powermore 132cc on sale for $241.00. It has a B&S so I'm told. The engine is mostly plastic top. I've seen youtubers fixing carbs on these engines.

YOU must be just ignorant. The plastic carbs are designed to make B&S powered mowers 100% tolerant to ethanol & water.
Honda must be still using old technology and will stop all US production of mowers in September 2023.

Here is the real problem. Most people leave gas in the tank over winter. It creats a gummy varnish. Or, they drain the tank but not the carb bowl. That allows guys like you and me to make money every year cleaning thier carb.

I had one last year that was driving me crazy, doing same thing, I removed tank and kept washing it out with gas, after third time a inch square peace of clear plastic came out, that was the problem with it..

Don't know about the 625ex, but on my 450e it's .006-.014; I would imagine it's probably similar on yours. You can set it precisely with feeler gauge, but you can also get a good approximation by slipping a 3x5 index card or dollar bill in the gap between the flywheel and the armature.
What makes the horn like squeak sound before it starts? I've heard that before and want to know what it is.
It is just the compression in the cylinder and the valves.
Probably the crankcase breather reed vibrating.

Any of those online places like repairclinic.com, or Amazon, eBay; your local small engine repair shop......just buy some hose and cut it to length using your old hose as a measurement.

I would have thought it was the ignition coil breaking down, after it gets hot..
sometimes it is...just have to troubleshoot all possibilities.
Video is to long only to diagnose that a fuel hose that has a hole in it. 😥
