The shirt over the mirror thing at 1:06:30 is an "old/deaf" person thing. My grandma (who was also deaf) used to put long sleeve shirts or sweaters over mirrors during storms (when the house would shake from the thunder) with the hope/belief that if the mirror fell/broke... Then the shirt/sweater might either save the mirror as it fell or at least catch the glass shards on the way down. And that way, when she woke up, she would know it had broken/fallen in the night and not step on it.

Back in the early 70s, my family used to live behind the green house on the corner of strandview, which is sadly no longer there.
I believe that building was built around 1978 - 1979.

Interesting elevator info. My husband and I stayed at LaPlaya last fall they had only 1 functioning elevator for both guests and employees to use. I was surprised the hotel was permitted to open and operate with that situation. It was awful to stay in a high-end hotel and be forced to wait 10 minutes for the elevator to come up to the 15th floor, then ride in it with a disgusting trash cart.

what happened in Surfside was much more than the HOA not maintaining and upgrading. you were not there when those buildings went up, I will leave it at that.

I have no actual knowledge about what happened. At the surfside, i'm only repeating things that I heard on youtube and things that I have seen being around my industry.

Many of the concrete structures in Florida are having issues due to age and salt water. You would think that replacing those buildings with a steal building would be a better decision rather than building another concrete high rise. You would also think that it would be way less expensive to build using steal than concrete as well. I'm wondering why so many condos are built using concrete rather than steal?

@@removeitprosdemolition What about galvanized steel? Steel is pretty much the main structural component of high rises.

It looks like Florida is going to have to adopt seismic codes straight out of California. The damage is similar to the unstable structures I've seen on the coastline in and around the LA and San Fran areas. I've heard engineering studies take up to 2 years in some cases, and thats for a residence.

Some cultures cover mirrors at night because they are believed to be gateways or portals to other realms. The portals are believed to let spirits enter our world.

Jewish tradition covered mirrors when 7 days in mourning. So if someone passed away, it’s likely why they used the sweaters. Sitting Shiva.
