    +tori nall - I don't know why it won't let me reply to your comment, but the answer to your question is, it's not clay. He's working on a resin cast of the maquette sculpture. It had to be molded in pieces so he's reassembling it, patching and holes and seams and then painting it. -Maggie

      so what was the material that was used for the original scuplture, then?

    • @StanWinstonSchool
      @StanWinstonSchool  9 лет назад +1

      ***** some sort of clay. Tim tends to prefer WED clay, but I don't think that he did the original sculpture. Clay type is usually a matter of the artist's preference. Then the clay piece is molded and the resin cast is made. -Maggie

    The sculpture is made from cast resin poured into a mold. The original sculpt, I believe was most likely a chavant clay. - David

    Tim is setting the commercial grade SUPER GLUE into place with another KEY INGREDIENT you'll find at hobby stores - "Zip Kicker". All the pros use this to INSTANTLY 'KICK" the glue so they don't need to spend so much time holding little things in place. Keep your eye on where the GLUE is, though... you can stick all sorts of stuff to YOU. - John

    You do not! But you GOT to start SOMEWHERE. What sets you apart? What's your portfolio look like? Are you telling other artists you want this? People in the field? Are you collaborating in your community with your local theatre or 'film kids' who need what you have to offer? You just need to stick your neck out, contact a few pros and start the dialog. WE always recommend honing your technique... and you can find A TON (all levels) on our site. Start there and keep in touch! John

    Hi, I have a question. I have only acrylic paint and brushes. Of course, I wanna get air brush and other stuff but I have no place to use it :/ Anyway, is it possible to paint the monster kit's color naturally only with brushes?? I mean, a boundary line looks too unrealistic when I painted my kit only with brushes. Sorry for my English :(

    Hi I sculpt horses in clay and want to start molding in rubber and reproducing in resin. Do you have a video/mini lesson that covers molding an animal/creature with complex parts/legs? I was going to take the legs off to make the mold. The sculpture will be made in oil based clay so it will be fragile, easily marked by handling. I hope you can help. Thank you.

      Stan Winston School I'd heard it was a campy Alien Rip-Off but was surprised it had such good production values, set design, a solid cast (Peter Weller and Richard Crenna) and the effects where great even by todays standards (Better even, but I've really developed a hatred for over used CGI). Only thing I thought was lacking was the ending that felt like it had been picked by a test audience.

    • @StanWinstonSchool
      @StanWinstonSchool  10 лет назад +3

      Cybopath, Glad you were pleasantly suprised. And we couldn't agree more with your comment about the overuse of #CGI these days. One of our missions is to educate a new generation of filmmakers about the RIGHT way to create believable fantasy characters by mixing all #FX techniques instead of relying on just one. -Matt

    Yes and no. It is a violation of the owners copyright, but in a lot of cases (but not all!) selling the original won't get you in much trouble. If you made a mold and sold duplicates (ala selling prints) then you can definitely get in trouble even with some of the more "look the other way" companies. I'm not a lawyer, so this is not legal council in any way, it's just an observation based on general experience. If you get sued, I'm not liable :D (just covering my butt).
