This guy loves what he's doing. You see that smile across his face? I love that! It feels good to learn from someone who's genuinely happy about what he's doing. I think it really makes a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to show us your sculpting, I'm just starting out with sculpting and watching videos like this gives encouragement. Thanks again
goldrick wang Hi - the tools you will find at this link are all recommended for beginners www.jacksonsart.com/Art_Departments-A-Z_All_Departments-Sculpture-Sculpture_Tools-CWR_Modelling_Tools/c2129_2128_2178_31127_33872/index.html good luck!
+Mr. VonMeister sometimes +Jake Corrick stops by to answer questions like this, fingers crossed!! But I imagine that the foil underneath the sculpey makes it easy to lift it from the pipe as the foil would not stick to the pipe
What a great teacher he is, and a fine artist. I am just starting out producing downloadable art lessons myself and he has really helped me formulate my own style. Brilliant and fun to watch Jake
Thank you :) yours is one of the only videos that actually shows what some of these tools do texture-wise rather than people showing what's in their tool box and saying what it does rather than showing. Also the foil is a great idea, was worried I was going to have to make my big project out of one large, thick piece of clay.
that was SUPER helpful. The alcohol and just your process in itself was helpful. I just finished my first sculpture and was wondering about baking. I got so much more from your video. Thanks.
Holy smokes you're a serious master. Thank you for sharing you process in such a user friendly way. Your creative use cheap tools and straightforward instructions are appreciated.
I have been using Sculpy ever since I was introduced to it briefly in a college art class. Over the last 16 years I have been slowly building my skills on my own. Never once did I ever think to pop online and take a peak at how other's do it. I learned some very valuable things from this as well as validated some of the techniques you shared that I learned on my own. Very cool. Thank you!
I've been sculpting for years and I'm still learning new methods and techniques everyday. Thanks for posting this vid. Lots of what you've shared I've echoed in my own work but I've shied away from using those wire tools. I'm excited to give them a go after seeing how you've used them.
This guy is super cool and really seems to enjoy what he's doing. i love people who are eager to teach others, world is full of jerks only wanting to hold each other down.
Hello! You are very polite, this is the first video of yours I have stumbled upon. subscribed, thank you for explaining things in such detail. I appreciate it when someone helps me learn things
Great tutorial ,i have been doing sculying for a year now using this great product and also using the hard eyes ,from being a drawer to using the SS has change my life ai so many ways ....Love this product and picked up a lot of pointers on how to use those looped scrapers ......Appreciate your assistance and knowledge .
Hi Jake. Thank you for sharing your amazing work and explaining your process so well. I really enjoyed watching this video and I gained a lot from it, especially how you build durable custom rake tools and also reinforcing how the detailing work should be a continuation of the underlying form already established in the beginning. I'm looking forward to applying your techniques to my future creations.
One of the best videos on here! Excellent job explaining the process. I just picked up some sculpey and am gonna be giving this a go. Thanks for the info!! Great video👍
Just adding this since it has come up a few times: The base is removable after baking. I use the same setup that I have had for years for nearly all of the busts I do in this scale. Once everything is baked, and if you were careful to not put too much sculpey at the bottom between where the sculpture meets the pipe, you can slowly spin and lift your piece off, and the excess armature wire can be snipped at the bottom. Good luck everyone, thanks so much for watching this. hope it is helping. I plan to do another video covering painting techniques, and maybe one for a full body figure if people are interested!
Got plenty of guitar strings. I change mine about every other week. Alsi..I use a lava rock for skin texture . Great video ...will be back often to learn more
Great tips Jake!! I would really like to see an extension of this video of what it looked like after you baked it and the painting process!! Great Vid!! I have a stupid question...what kind of eyes do you use? Is there a possibility of these objects melting during the baking process??
+Mokie R Thank you! hoping to do a paint process tutorial soon. You can absolutely melt the eyes in the oven, but Sculpey bakes at a low enough temperature that it is never normally a problem. I prefer to bake my sculptures low and slow so that I never have to worry.
Thank you for sharing what you know with us.....it was very helpful....im just getting started to sculp....my clay just got here so these videos are awesome!!!!
I just love this tutorial, it is great! I'm not very good at English, but I can understand much of what you said. I think I'm ready to start my adventer with sculpting. Thanks a lot. :)
You're a great teacher thank you (completely new at this... like I've only sculpted a small heart). So much useful info in this fairly short video. Hope to see more!
really nice video. im new in sculpting and just started a figure with super sculpey. would need advice on which acrylic paint i can use for a nice result? martha stewart or apple barrel or folk art.any advice? thx
Hi Jake, absolutely loved this video! I'm very new to sculpey and obviously I'll be starting small and then working up to projects like this. I was curious where you bought your eyeforms/glass eyes from?
Hello! Amazing work! I want to get into sculpting and your video is the first one I ran into! With that being said, I have some questions: 1. Air bubbles? How do I get rid of them or how do I know if my piece has them? Will my sculpture blow up in the oven? 2. Stands for sculpting..where do I buy them? 3. What paint will work with super sculpey? I want it to look as clean as possible. I'd like to stay away from the 'elementary paint'. Hope to hear from you soon! -Landon
I see your questions have not been answered yet. Here's my personal experience with Sculpey: 1. This need not be a big issue, as it doesn't normally occur when conditioning the clay well before use. Try not to trap air in the clay while kneeding it, or when putting layers of clay on top of one another. Trapped air can show up as tiny white spots or little cracks on the surface after baking. Cracks can also occur when you bake really thick layers of clay. So don't. 2. Be creative, anything could be a stand for your sculptures. I have used candle stands for this purpose and find they work really well. 3. Acrylic paints are recommended and totally safe to use on Sculpey. I know some people use solvent based paints, such as heat set oil paint or enamel paint. Be careful when using solvent based paints though, as they could affect the baked clay through chemical interactions. I hope this helps. Good luck and have fun sculpting :)
I am new, totally new to sculpey. It looks so cool. The metal and wood form that your sculpture is sitting on, you bake that as well and that becomes part of the sculpture?
This guy loves what he's doing. You see that smile across his face? I love that! It feels good to learn from someone who's genuinely happy about what he's doing. I think it really makes a difference.
Reminds me of Jonnie the paper mache lady. The energy and love for what they do is remarkable.
That rubbing alcohol method for smoothing is an amazing tip. My life just got like 30% easier.

Super Sculpey polymer clay!
Thank you...that was a great tutorial!
Hey! This guy was awesome in Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge

loved watching your tutorial.... you inspired me.... you're fantastic.... Karl, from Dublin.
I am new, totally new to sculpey. It looks so cool. The metal and wood form that your sculpture is sitting on, you bake that as well and that becomes part of the sculpture?
Yes, you always leave the aluminium foil base inside the sculpture.
Well yeah but does he take it off the base or what ?_?
were did u get the eyes?
The best tutorial
I doubt he remembers me but I knew Jake when he was just getting started around 07. Really talented and nice guy 😊 I'm really happy for him
looks easy but this guy is fantastic, the good ones make it look easy. i sketch first.
Thanks Jake, was everything I hoped
Thank you for this great tutorial, just bought some Sculpey and I intended to make a t rex head!
This was awesome. I have been wanting to take this up without the actual use of wed clay for my plans.
