    Late to the party here (by 3 years) . I have used all these materials and oddly I have been using DAS to sculpt mummy busts. It works really well because I don’t need or want super detail and tearing actually helps with the dried/rotten appearance of old Egyptian mummy busts. Fun to use and very light

    Once conditioned, I store unused Super Sculpey as logs in plastic food wrap. They seem to store a very long time without drying out.

    I've not made anything out of clay since my school years 😂 so I grabbed myself some DAS clay, got mad at how it dries all over my fingers but managed to make a dragon head. I then decided to sculpt the rest of the body and well its fine, not as good as my standards go, but it's fine. Getting super sculpty now. I qlso tried some cheap clay that says its like china clay, it wasn't too bad but it would not harden right. Saying that I may try it again.

    Great video. Monster clay is my go to…I like NSP too, but monster is amazing to work with. Only issue is molding is not an easy thing to do to make a permanent sculpture or reproduce. It’s expensive and an art form in and of itself, so I pretty much have switched to polymer…the next best thing for permanency. My sculpts have alot of detail, so making molds is not for me at this time 😥

    I started out with Fimo and a random Air dry clay my mom once bought me (It's called Do & Dry) but Fimo is just too hard for me and I don't wanna sit there for ages and knead the clay until it's soft and it also doesn't really fit what I wanna sculpt. The air dry clay works fine but it does kinda tear when you try to get details in wich is why you have to use a lot of water for it wich also means that you can't paint it with water colors wich I'd prefer to use for stuff that has little details like cracks and the clay also kinda smears and doesn't stay that smooth
    I really wanna try out super sculpey, it seems fitting for the little sculptures I wanna do so yeah, probably gonna try that out soon :D

      When buying super sculpey look on the back of the package for production date and even open it and give it a bit of a push some of it is really hard and needs to be worked some comes soft. the pink super sculpey is alot easier to work then the grey. good luck i hope you enjoy it

    After starting out with air dry clay ( Amaco) I switched to polymer clay and found it to be the best for me ( Super Sculpey Beige)

  • @BeastGuyver
    @BeastGuyver 2 года назад +6

    Sculpy also produces super light, glow in the dark (you have to put it under a bright light light to "charge" it first), super flex (remains flexible after baking), translucent, and I think one other variety but I can't remember. I also once came across an "eraser" clay to make erasers with, but it sucked BHDB.

      Glad it helped!!!! Das is a hard clay to get details.

    • @mattiecreates
      @mattiecreates  3 года назад +2

      @Henrik Schandorff that is polymer clay , same as the super Sculpey I show in my video. Polymer clay comes in every color and many diffey brands but super Sculpey and fimo are most popular. DAS has alot of fibers and is like paper machete ..the clay use in the video is very soft and cuts clean. They are not the same clays.

    • @mattiecreates
      @mattiecreates  3 года назад +2

      @Henrik Schandorff OK so i just watched the whole video and not just the time stamp you put in.. it does say paper clay , but it still does not look as textured as Das, and for most people you wont get that kind of detail with das and you will get frustrated. The great thing about this is my video is my opinion based on MY experience to help with buying options. if you think you can do that with Das than please buy some and make a video, id love to see it !!
      But you are going to work 10 times harder with that clay than you will with something like Monster clay , chavant or super sculpey as they take detail no problem , they clean up easy with way less mess and can be smoothed faster no power tools needed.
      Thanks for commenting , have a great day !

    • @maitocujo3567
      @maitocujo3567 3 года назад +2

      @Henrik Schandorff As someone who started scultping with DAS I can guarantee you it's not it haha. Whenever I tried to make those little details with it it just teared no matter how I tried to do it.
      You can't make such little details with it or create such a smooth surface.

      @@firedog1972 Monster clay never dries - it hardens to a more wax-like consistency once it cools. How hard it gets is determined by the version you buy. This stage can be really good for detail work or smoothing/finishing. If you want to keep working on it though, you can use a heat gun on low setting, your body heat (aka your hands), or even a heat lamp to warm it back up to your desired consistency.
