What is the best Clay for you! Part 1 Das clay , SuperSculpey , Chavant NSP , Monster clay

This is a quick review on each one of these and what may or may not work for you!! Super Sculpey Monster Clay Chavant NSP Das Clay
I've not made anything out of clay since my school years 😂 so I grabbed myself some DAS clay, got mad at how it dries all over my fingers but managed to make a dragon head. I then decided to sculpt the rest of the body and well its fine, not as good as my standards go, but it's fine. Getting super sculpty now. I qlso tried some cheap clay that says its like china clay, it wasn't too bad but it would not harden right. Saying that I may try it again.
The music at the end was ridiculously Loud
It was literally my first vids i ever made lol Thanks for your feed back
🗺️,Arkgw,biqd?!
Das is brilliant, you just have to know how to work it. Super sculpy is my least favourite. I really like milliput super fine as well.
Beautiful sheath👍👍👍
Thank you for the kind words! <3
It’s there something like epoxi clay but that dries softer? Like some sort of soft plastic but that you can model with
7:40 You are what?? 🤨
can you mix the Chavant medium and hard to make something in the middle?
yeah definitely. but honestly the medium is pretty firm. Hard is good if you want to do take away sculpting.
Thanks for the informative video. I work with beeswax, but it sticks. I will buy Monster Clay .
you wont be disappointed
I want to make standing snakes and mosaic them (so detail isn’t so important). Which clay would you recommend?
Oh and cosclay is marvelous…I use it for like tails and ears etch…things that can snap off easily…it is wonderfully flexible…very good comprehensive review of clays….wish I had had this when I started many years ago.
Great video. Monster clay is my go to…I like NSP too, but monster is amazing to work with. Only issue is molding is not an easy thing to do to make a permanent sculpture or reproduce. It’s expensive and an art form in and of itself, so I pretty much have switched to polymer…the next best thing for permanency. My sculpts have alot of detail, so making molds is not for me at this time 😥
Super informative thank you! Seeing this I wonder why the soft or even medium version exist, right? I mean if you can soften it for molding, don’t you want your shape to hold as much as possible once you’re done shaping? And then if you want to make any modifications you just soften it up again with heat. So it seems like getting the hard version is a no-brainer. Or am I missing something?
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Soft and medium can be use for people with arthritis a lot easier. Also if you want to "quick sketch" and idea you can work the soft a lot faster. And to be honest its all personal preference . Hope the video helped.
What a very informative video, thanks so much. Can we use the torch on Chavant clay to soften it?
This is exactly the type of video I was searching for. Thank you.
no worries im glad it could help !!
Late to the party here (by 3 years) . I have used all these materials and oddly I have been using DAS to sculpt mummy busts. It works really well because I don’t need or want super detail and tearing actually helps with the dried/rotten appearance of old Egyptian mummy busts. Fun to use and very light
Monster clay is the best material i ever worked with, really awesome
I agree it really is an amazing material to work with! Thank you for watching
fucking thank you dude, i looked so many places for a comparison like this.
No worries i did to and thats why i made these... to bad i rambled for 20 min haha i should really redo these lmao. Glad it helped. What clay are you thinking about going with ?
For projects that take a long time, you need to cover the Chavant to keep the dust off due to its tackiness. A Monster Clay project is not tacky and you can rinse the dust off in your sink.
Once conditioned, I store unused Super Sculpey as logs in plastic food wrap. They seem to store a very long time without drying out.
0:38 you mean "a love/heat *relationship*". key word missing there.
Brilliant!!!! 👏🏻❤
Thank you very much! Appreciate the kind words
Saya dari indonesia. Dimana dan bagaimana saya dapat membeli monster clay
Amazon
I do sand sculpting as a hobby and want to practice my skills while not at the beach. Would clay work help me? At the beach we just build up forms, pound the wet sand in and remove everything we don't want. So it's a bit different than clay in that you can just take a little piece add it where you want. Sand doesn't rebond like that. Maybe I could use Monster clay, pour it into a small form and start from that. How easy is it to remove large chunks of clay?
fundamentally it is similar but sand has a completely different texture. and the huge nice sand sculptures you see the professionals do is a special mix of sand and clay that has a specific moisture content. I bet if you youtube sand sculpting recipe there is something. if you like sculpting in general id pick up clay of some kinda and just have fun playing around making stuff
So I want permanent sculptures-If monster won’t work, sculpey won’t work for me, what should I try? Nsp isn’t really permanent, so is das my only option? Are there any other options? Is there any way at all to make monster permanent? I’d like to try silicone molds, but my sculptures might be big and I can’t buy very much silicone- what do I do?
One word... OUTSTANDING 👍😷👍
So did you ever try monster clay hard? And if you did, would you suggest that or medium? Great review by the way, gonna try this out for the first time. Unfortunately I could only find das, but knew it wouldn't be to bad for a first timer, but still would like monster clay. Thanks!
So i never tried hard monster clay. but i did use hard NSP. If you like the idea of carving away and refining that way, its not a bad choice but i think for 99% of people Medium is fine cause it does get as hard as a candle when it cools down, which allows you to carve in fine details. Thanks for the kind words and support. Have fun sculpting!!
@@mattiecreates Thank you! 🙌
We’re can I get monster clay in alberta Canada
Can I mix with water make it liquid for surface?
I recently got chavant clay and it's so damn sticky, I found heating it for 15 second bursts in the microwave on some baking parchment also works Only way I've found to clean it off my hands is using vegetable oil and dish soap, otherwise the residue is impossible to get off I'm debating getting some monster clay because I've heard it's easier to work with, hence why I'm here haha I'm using it to make sculpts to make molds or foam patterns from it
i dont recommend heating in the microwave for chavant only monster clay, use a crock pot or a heat lamp above it and let it slowly melt. or a very very low setting in the oven, chavant is very waxy and oily it is sticky when warm but once it hardens more it carves alot easier. i also use chanvant hard or medium. monster clay is alot less sticky than chavant and similar characteristics. i think i will do a video on a how to build a hot box.
@@mattiecreates would a heat gun on a low setting also work?
You’re a very talented artist as a new fan I have to thank you for sharing your process. You made it look easy and it is not, fur takes patience and practice. Next up for me is your eye painting video. Stoked to have found your channel.
Thank you that means alot, i am trying to "up" the quality of my videos haha my older ones are ...well not the best quality. but i do have alot more vids planned and appreciate your support !!!
Amazing work!
Pause on the tips 😆 Ill make them stay longer or talk next time 😛
Wow it's really nice 🙂
Thank you so much!
I love how it kind of looked like a waffle in the beginning 😂 also the sad face on the tub of varnish (was it varnish?) sent me! I’m glad he didn’t stay sad 😂😂 this is beautiful work! 10/10 Timelapse!
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it 😀
Beautiful! Can you share the colors you used? Thank you
So Sorry i missed this comment! My main colors i use are yellow ocher , burnt sienna <-- these are my main i play with different hues, burnt umber, white , black, some yellow and reds. I try not to use black to much as i usually mix burnt umber and ultramarine it makes a very dark mix. hope this helps, i will try and explain better in my future videos ! Thanks for your kind words! 🙂
Polymer clay is my favorite clay
it is a great clay to work with ! Thank you for watching
7:41 "Im currently in the works of getting hard...."
I really appreciate this review. I have been wondering about these different brands and you answered lots of my questions!!!! Thank you!!!!
Glad it helped, I had alot of similar questions and couldnt find alot of what i needed so i made this. im glad it has been so helpful to people .
I really appreciate the detailed review. Very helpful as I'm just starting out.
Glad this is useful!! there is so many choices now in days.
I know you mentioned that an armature isn't needed for the monster clay but would that be for any size sculptures? Like could you sculpt a adult body from size from the waist up?
Maybe with the hard mo ster clay as it gets pretty firm but at that scale it would just be a waste of clay. And would be very heavy. Anything big scale I would always recommend and armature.
@@mattiecreates any idea how much clay that it would take for something that size?
Great video, thanks. If you are using lighter fluid let it totally evaporate before putting a flame to the clay lol. Also it’s your making a mould with anything that has a thermic reaction ( fibreglass or plaster) avoid monster clay, and stick with NSP.
Does the sculpy Flex if you have an armature under it so you can make a bendable figure? Thanks Great video
if you dont bake it .. sort of ..but you would be putting finger prints in it, id recommend plasticine for stop motion
I brother i just going to start to make a sculpture but dont know what kind of clay to buy. I want the clay be harder easy for make find details
Sculpey firm , monster clay medium or hard and or chanvant NSP hard or medium , just remember the monster clay and chavant dont go hard.. but you can make the super sculpey firm hard by baking it!
So helpful! I have been wondering about Monster clay for a while. However my go to clay is DAS!!
Awesome informative video - I'm trying to sculpt an "Add-On" piece for a motorcycle helmet which I'll then cast to make a silicone form. The resulting form would then be used to create the final version of the Add-On. Don't know how it will turn out but I'm sure I'll learn a lot in the process. Thanks Mattie
Hey no problem , im glad it gave you some insight. And thats gonna be an awesome project!!!
@@mattiecreates Cool & Thanks. Will let you know how it turns out but make take a while. All the best.
what do you think about a traditional water based clay? The stuff they also use for pottery
i absolutely love it , but i dont have a kiln and i dont have much experience with it. id love to make bonsai pots and what not.
🙋🏻♂️Buenas tardes. Excelente vídeo. Me ha gustado que explicas porqué te gusta y porqué no. 👍🏻
Gracias!!
Can I reuse monster clay after making silicone mold from it ?
yes you sure can , that is the beauty of it, you can reuse it and keep practicing and making stuff with it!
@@mattiecreates thank you !
now use both the medium and hard, but what happen if you want to reuse it?
i mix hard with my medium all the time i actually like it the best that way its a perfect in between . or just keep them separate ( this comment was for monster clay )
@@mattiecreates ppl say they use and reuse monster clay all the time , but in wondering ppl always say i use medium for the majority of my sclupture but use hard one for the detail but what happen when you want to destroy thr sclupture and want to use the clay again, isnt it mixed ? and how it look for the finished product ? i mean after you finished ur sclupture you just sell it like that?
