Finally! Someone doing Luther! ❤❤❤ I grew up with him. My mom played him all the time. No one else like him.
He’s a master vocalist.
I was there that night, in-the-round at Wembley. Luther, his backing singers and his band were exceptional. This track was the outstanding number for that evening and his vocals will stay with me forever.
Amazing (pun intended!) when you consider that Luther was once a backing singer for David Bowie 😢❤️
Luther was absolutely one of the best! So smooth and pure and beautiful. Thank you for the analysis.
What a magnificent, well tuned, purring velvety Rolls Royce of a Voice! Only a Maestro can ad lib so effortlessly and creatively, and all in service of the song, not the ego. Wow!
Wonderful reaction but his performance of this song at the NAACP AWARDS WAS EPIC!!!
Also his Soul Train performance in 1982 was a good one too
Yep, his best ever version, need to see a reaction to that, handful on the tube
Yes correct making up with dione.
I'm here from Live from Anaheim. Best version.
tribute to dionne Warwick hands down
Luther was the GOAT!!! ❤❤
I used to be a secret Luther fan. Back in the 80's I was into hair metal, as were most of my friends. But once I ordered a Luther CD thru one of the mail order CD companies (I think it was BMG), I was hooked. His voice is amazing! And the delivery during this song is awe inspiring. He looks like he is having so much fun "showing off" his voice during this performance. Thank you for this review of a unique talent.
Ha! Me too! I had a thick mop of long blonde hair and wore metal shirts and ripped jeans every day. Now I no longer have any guilty pleasures. I'll play some fucking Slayer, then throw on some ABBA. Mr. Vandross' stuff and Maria Carey's first album all got worn right out.
I grew up in Oakland. A secret fan of human league, simply red, Madonna... If a bloke can sing, don't matter the color!!! There is alot of secret fans out there.
Luther was the best ever (IMO) incredible low foundation, sharp and clean upper tones, insane control and emotion in every word. Luther always sang to you and not at you! He is sorely missed...
Watching a bow being wrapped around a present. What a way to put that.
Your face, when you are watching Luther, is brilliant
Luther Vandross was a legendary singer. He had such a unique, soulful voice. May he RIP.
His voice feels like a huge piece of satin against bare skin. Just beautiful!
Luther was off the chain. His voice was hypnotic and amazing
I was at this concert which was unusual for an 18 year old at the time.
It remains my favourite all time concert. The man was a genius
About time, someone of your caliber, analyzing his singing. He truly was a master of the craft of singing; very soulful, silky, sensual voice. ♨️♨️♨️🇨🇦
Luther and his backup singer from this concert Ava Cherry were the backing vocalists on David Bowie's song Young Americans.Great reaction!
I always said it was just effortless, born to sing.
Great clear explanation of what was going on, great reaction, I was one of those to have seen him in concert and I will always treasure this to have seen this Master in concert. There will never be another like Luther!
He was half way thru a concert Live In Wembly. He was waiting for background singers to change outfits. Great concert.
Luther is in a class of his own. There are special moments in his performances that just blows the roof off the top. Forever remembered.
One of the all time greats. Crazy, crazy, crazy voice I’ve ever heard. This in itself was one of the best performances of Luther Vandross
Luther's the GOAT!
THE GOAT!
I listen to all genre of music and his voice is THE male voice of a generation. I like his version of this song even better with his tribute to Dionne Warwick and watch the crowd go nuts! ( On RUclips)..Also his Christmas album is amazing ! Can't wait every year to listen to it. RIP Luther
My dear friend ran Luther's managers NY office during the day so I was fortunate to see Luther many times. Backstage he was sweet, charming and chill...onstage he was a vocal machine and the women lost their minds....some of the men as well. His band was phenomenal and his backup singers (Lisa Fischer) were sublime. The shame is that there is a whole generation of people who have NO idea who Luther is or was.....only the greatest voice of his generation and probably any generation. I hope he and Teddy (Pendergrass) are singing their asses off in heaven!
No one acknowledges that Vandross is really a classical jazz singer out of era. He is really just Sarah Vaughan projected forward in time. Vandross and Carreras- the two greatest male voices of my generation.
Totally agree.
He was absolutely amazing in concert and every song could have gone on forever, but seemed like a moment in time. His concert was truly one of my favorites. Listen to Joe, if you like Luther. He is another black man that takes your breath away when he sings
That’s big Luther baby don’t play!!!! Me and my mom miss him so much, she is his biggest fan.
Luther and Otis Redding are the voices I imagine that we will all hear as we enter into heaven
I love his voice with vocal power. It’s a treat listening him sing
I saw both the late great Luther and the late great Whitney both live. Magical ❤
Oh man id love if you did the NCAAP performance of this song. You can argue that rendition is even more impressive
Finally!! Someone listing to Luther and feeling every note the way, I do. Pure, just absolute joy. Thank You!
Luther was a giant back in the 70s with his amazing vocals
Singing background on David Bowie's "All American".
Love love love Luther... Superstar is one of my favs. 😊❤
The thing that’s so fascinating and brilliant is that there is space and light and dark shading for the notes and it allows it to breathe…it also allows maximum impact. It is incredibly effective.
You are the best among the best reactors, your eyes ,smile, facial reactions and body movements says it all.
Your give phenomenal explanations when you touch on the different parts of his performance, & I love your facial expressions. I agree he has a silky smooth way of delivering the notes, emotions, & dynamics of his voice. I’ve been following The Master as far back as I can remember (the 70s 😊) & he is the greatest male singer I have ever heard. I put him on par with Whitney & Reba as the best at their singing crafts. Thank you for this. You have become my fav at breaking singers. R. I. P. Luther. You are missed.
LOVE Reba!
Luthers voice paints a picture.. Thx for the music Luther World Class🌏👌🏿💯🎤...
LUTHER IS THE KING OF R&B OKAY!! 😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great reaction and insights! Might I suggest doing a run through the 1994 live at Royal Albert Hall version of Luther and Mariah's "Endless Love". I don't think there have been very many more beautiful duets recorded. More technical maybe, more emotionally moving sure... but Luther and Mariah just take the cake for beautiful!
Thanks for all you do!
I’m so glad you got to this , he is one of the best in the business.
One of the best male singers if not the best ever
My favorite Luther song🎙❤
I read somewhere that Luther once said it's one thing to have your audience cheering, but quite another for them to be completely silent so they won't miss anything.
This man had a voice that was larger than life itself. If only he had taken better care of himself healthwise, who knows, he might still be here.
One of our GREATEST voices in R&B music....❣️🙌🏿
"He's playing more with everything else except the melody, except the notes." Yes, this was something I noticed, as well, but could never put into words. Sadly, there's just no one like him these days; no one sings like that anymore. This entire concert is incredible. An immaculate production. Not sure who the md was, but he or she didn't get paid enough! I believe the great Marcus Miller was involved, but I don't know to what extent. Thanks again for this one!
Yes Marcus was very much involved and there was another person, cannot recall his name at the moment.
Years when Luther appeared on The Oprah show, he would always praise Marcus Miller and this name always stayed with me. Way years later the name came up in a line up of getting ready to go on one of my Jazz cruises, Luther had already passed. Got to meet Marcus on the cruise, he was awarded and I told him after the how Luther always praised him on The Oprah W., and he was so very humbled, he did not realize!!
@@lydmarl.475 that is amazing! I can definitely believe it, as Marcus is an extremely down-to-earth human being. As for the other name you are thinking of, I’m not sure. I know that Ivan Hampden, Doc Powell, Yogi Horton, Byron Miller, and Nat Adderley, Jr. all worked with Luther, in addition to Marcus, but I forget who was in the Wembley lineup.
@@lydmarl.475 was it Nat who was Luther’s md? I think it may have been. That would make sense.
@@sethcashman1011 yes Nat Adderley Jr., is the name, it came back, thanks for refreshing my memory. Marcus for sure is a down to earth guy, love him! Just saw him almost 2 months ago at The Blue Note NYC. He is from my area where he grew up in Queens, but was born in Brooklyn, NY, he is like the type to always say to be back home, does not forget where he came from.
@@lydmarl.475 Nat, yeah, what an amazing cat. Makes perfect sense that he would have been the md in question. Do you know the drummer Poogie Bell? He’s played with Marcus for many years. Another wonderful cat. Very cool that you got to see MM at the Blue Note! Haven’t been there since before the pandemic. The last show I saw there was either Chris Dave or Meshell Ndegeocello.
I pray that ONE DAY we'll see another person with his talent come along.
👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 Loved your explanation and insight into this song!
As you said he was brilliant and a huge loss to the entertainment community! I don't think I've heard a magnificat voice like his. And now that he's gone, I think ge would hard to replace
He had a natural, God given talent
and now ge's singing for the Lord! RIP Luther!
And thank you for giving him the alcalaves that he deserves! One of akind! 🙋😘💞🌹
Your voice is so kind. Glad I found your channel
Seen him at Wembley before he passed away. He was so awesome live
If there’s one voice I wish I could have, it’s Luther’s. Just pure silk
Luther had such a beautiful voice. This song is just amazing and one of my favorites, he sang. I was just talking to my wife about him.
Luther's "superstar" at Wembley is just classic and out of this world...
Excellent video! Thank you,
Here is a little back story about the song and about LV.
Luther was a background singer for Patti LaBelle. While in rhe road with Patti he was doing a sound check with rhe sound engineer. As such they were playing with the arrangements for the up and coming performance. It was not supposed to be rhat many peope in the auditorium during the sound check so the lights were turned down.
Unbeknownth to Luther Patti LaBelle was sitting in the audience and was listening to him sing. Upon his completion she made herself known. It was in that moment Luther found himself unemployed because Patti LaBelle fired him on the spot. Her reasoning behind this move was that she felt that Luther should never sing backup to anyone and that was her way of making sure he knew that and to pursue his solo career.
The song House is not a home was first sung during an award ceremony where Dionne Warwick who originally sung the song was present and he sang it to her.
Nice to know... Thanks😊
When music was an aural feast, not intended as a visual feast with Autotune to clean up that singing part of the show.
Such a great performance, from such a musical master.
This song brings back feelings and wondrous memories of my first girlfriend which was my High school sweetheart till this day. I never forgot her. And this song brings incredible memories alive again.❤❤❤❤
I love Luther.
Wish he was still here.
I mean the thing about Luther is that you never feel, in spite of everything, that he is not present in the song. The song never gets lost in his styling. He was one of a kind.
I loved Luther!
He was so smooth....He doesn't ever seem to reach or push for any notes. I hate him! 😂😂I guess that's the balance she is referring to. But he is definitely my favorite male voice.
Great reaction! I loved it!
Amazing
This may sound bad but when i was in the military, putting on Luther was a guaranteed baby maker. R.I.P.
Ya it’s bad! Luther would of definitely that description of his music! Lol
The 'Master'!!!
Great perception
Its a great vocal analysis ! :D
My favorite male singer ever
First Time Ever I saw your Face...Robert Flack....if you get a chance
Miss Lady, you have got to react to PRINCE ....DAM YOI and SOMEWHERE HERE ON EARTH. You will not be disappointed......BUT, there is one performance you MUST REVIEW...Rachelle Ferrell's "AMERICA the BEAUTIFUL" YES, YES , YES!!!!!
That was moving!
Good coach
There was a radio R+B hit in the early '80's that he sang. I didn't know the name so I bought every album but never found it. 40 years later it showed up on RUclips somehow. It was before he went on his own, with a group. "The Glow of Love."

Would like to hear your perspective now James Warren Taylor “JT” with Kool and the Gang and Gregory Hines. Maybe do Gregory and Luther singing together in There’s nothing better than Love. Love Luther.
Can you please do the one from the 1988 NAACP awards? I would love to hear your reaction
please also do Luther Vandross live perf of Superstar 😊
He paints a picture with his vocals.
I know you are analyzing singers' performances, but don't forget to mention the geniuses behind these songs- in this case, Burt Bacharach and Hal David. RIP Luther Vandross, BB and HD.

🌟🥇
Well done he can sing super high without head voice but he might touch that for his own unique beautiful voice. He can hear the echo and he is singing to himself maybe?
please enjoy Teddy Pendergrass - Lady (Live London 1982)
Good evening
Can you react to Lisa Fischer .
She is 😊so amazing. She also was a backup singer for Dionne Warrick Luther Vandross and years for the Rolling Stones.
I'm quite sure you already know this. Thanks for the critique. Awesome. 😊

So you’re discovering a true vocalist. These reaction videos are an easy way to post videos.
I enjoy your videos. Keep it up!
NAACP IMAGE AWARDS FOR Dionne Warwick
Love you covered this but you picked the least amazing performance by him. You must check out the 1988 Image awards tribute to Dionne. That is THE best live performance. IMO at least :)
I would like to play the lead role in a romantic comedy with her vocal teacher.very sympathetic, elegant person 😊
Can you please please do a Reaction to Luther Vandross - Superstar live from wembley
Hello VINTERSEA has asked their fans to reach out to the best reactors on RUclips to do a reaction to their latest videos At the Gloaming Void and Unveiling Light if you like Arch Enemy you're gonna love VINTERSEA
Luther vandross, Al Green, Stevie Wonder and Barry White dominated the 70s soul
Luther came out in the 80s sir. Far as a solo artist!
Why are these stripes through the pictures??
