Burt Bacharach wrote this song so it makes sense Dionne covered it as she was his main muse. There is an even earlier live version with Burt (not known for his vocals) and Dusty Springfield if you care to give a listen.

Seriously, what a silky smooth and memorable performance. Just like Whitney they both just commanded the stage with presence. The fact she was moved to tears in the end shows the tribute to her on this award show was something special.

"A House Is Not a Home" was written by (of course) Burt Bacharach & Hal David for the 1964 movie of the same name. Brook Benton's version of the track was used in the movie and released two weeks before Dionne Warwick's version was. Luther's version was released 1981, from his debut album _Never Too Much._ The problem is that when Luther does a cover, he so makes it his own that everyone forgets the original version! 😂
6:03 In this rendition, the woman in the audience *is* Dionne Warwick, Luther's friend, musical inspiration, and great supporter of his career. He was a hugely in-demand background vocalist for many years, singing backup for her and for dozens of other artists, like David Bowie _(Young Americans,)_ Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Ringo Starr, Todd Rundgren, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan, and Bette Midler.
Vandross produced, wrote songs for, and sung in a duet with Warwick on the title track of her 1983 album, _How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye_

When you see the camera keep panning out to Dionne Warwick, not only was Dionne good friends with her, but she was the first person that did this song who songwriter and friend, Burt Bacharach and co-writer had originally wrote for her Because of Bert Bacharach first writing a number of songs purposely for Dionne, did she become well known making her
a singing sensation. Burt Bacharach, even though he has received aclaims for his writing amazing love ballots; I truly believe that unless the singers could sing his songs that they stood a strong possibility that the singers wouldn't have risen to the status that they became. And alot of them knew it and were greatful for Burt and his songwriting imaginations and his abilities. Burt also, was a special talent which the likes we'll never see again. RIP Burt Bacharach!

Yeah Dionne Warwick this is her song but Luther does it so good that Mrs. Warwick gave ownership of this song to Luther

Cannot believe u don't know Dionne @brad. See, we just went over this season one top 5 night. That's why you shouldn't fast forward everything. There is a lot of education in between all that corniness.

Surprised Brad didn't recognize the original singer of the song, Dionne Warwick. Not only were they never a couple but it's well-known that Luther was gay. Great reaction though! 👍

Luther could sing the phone book and it would still go double platinum. He was a treasure.

LOL,..NO they were NOT a couple,..(Luther was Gay) BUT he had LOTS of respect for the Divas of music and he and Dionne had a falling out (she. was one of his mentors) . I LOVE Luther, saw him 3 times in concert and was devastated when he passed

Hey man, could you please make a video reacting to Chuck Berry? He invented Rock n' Roll and it'd be cool if you could make a video on it.

Being a die hard Luther (and Tamyra fan) I hated and I mean beyond hated the glee version. Borderline found it insulting. Not that it's terrible or that it's not great in it's own right, but once you've heard the other two, it's like kid bops trying to do a Patti LaBelle belt or something.

“We’re they a couple that broke up”?
“He’s trying to win her over”
Bro, Um, no. Luther Vandross was gay.
