Ironically Whitney is Dionne's cousin. *He was on Arsenio before his full performance & was asked to do just a little & when he sang a capella Arsenio literally laid on the floor & started kicking his legs up, he couldn't take it & Luther sings like we breathe effortlessly.

There is no one like Luther Vandross. I always joke, "Usher who? Brian McKnight? No... it's LUTHER." ;) He's got the kind of voice where you should listen with headphones so you can hear every nuance. He's jus so smooth, not just with all the runs and melismas but with every note he sings. His tone is gorgeous. And as you see with the video, it's even better live. One of my favorite concerts was taking a road trip to Milwaukee with my friends after high school graduation to see him in concert. What a wonderful evening... I think I spent it just spellbound the whole time, listening to him sing.

    AGREED! It IS the GREATEST
    from the G.O.A.T. (R.I.P.)
    Felt it W/U.
At 1st , the most felt reaction
is Silence , so beyond words,
to the Core of the Soul.

When this was recorded I was living in Japan but a friend of mine told me about this Amazing Luther performance!
When I got back to the USA, one of the first things I did is go to my friend's house and watch this on his VHS player.
Needless to say, this performance was, is, and always will be; Stunning!!!
The reason why they kept showing Dionne Warwick is because 20 years earlier she had a hit with this song written by Burt Bacharach.
Jamel, thank you for this reaction to one of my All Time favorite performances by Luther Vandross!
Also, thank you for Keeping Great Music Alive!!!
God bless you and your family. Much Love & Respect.
    Take Care. ✌

Oh Luther.... Miss you so much.
I saw him in concert once, in the 90s. It was so amazing. There was once time, he made the seats in The Joe (Joe Louis Arena) vibrate. Amazing.

We lost this man way too early!! Was lucky enough to see/hear him at the U of Arizona back in the day. He always refused A.C. said his voice was more important than sweat. It was 9 pm & 93 degrees outside. Never Ever been so happy to sweat!
