My grandma passed, my grandpa told me to put this song on. The moment he sang the first line, he started screaming balling crying. You never know the true hurt of a real man.
It always gave me chills listening to Bill Withers. I'm lucky enough to be old enough to have these songs playing on the radio. So much good music back then.
Ringo Starr was inducted that same year (Paul was there to give the induction speech), and in an interview he gushed about being inducted with Bill Withers. He may not have been a mega superstar, but he was a musician's musician, a singer's singer, and a writer's writer. He was the real deal, and all his peers knew it and recognized it.
I live in WV and Bill Withers is from Slab Fork, WV. He has been a state treasure, and this state has been very proud of him and his career. Amazing artist! My middle son got to meet him a few years ago when he was being honored at West Virginia University, he said he was a class act. Very sad news, RIP Mr. Withers.
Love Bill Withers man, he’s from a little town here in my State of West Virginia. Thank you for giving him some love, Rest In Peace to one of the Greats!
The depth of emotion heartfelt agony his feeling when his womens gone, its raw. Not huge lyrical content in this song but enough to put a knot in your stomach.
May I introduce you to the OUTSTANDING rendition by Matt Andersen-who blows audiences away around the world. Hang on to your hat.....and RIP Bill. ruclips.net/video/jLsye_LJ_Ks/видео.html
The repeated "I know" part was filler because he'd planned to write another verse. Others suggested he not change it. Bill Withers: "I was this factory worker in here, just sort of puttering around. So when their general feeling was, ‘leave it like that,’ I left it like that."
I have always been a Bill Withers fan! We listen to an oldies radio station at my office. I hear my Bill. Who sings that I ask.. they know the songs. Not the artist. My coworkers always know if I ask it's Bill ...weathers. RIP MR BILL WITHERS
Motown of the 60s early 70s was some of the greatest music then.Everyone should indulge into some Percy Sledge,Ottis Redding,Sam Cooke and Bill Withers.
I love, love, love, love this song. Bill Withers had an amazing voice. Jamel, I love your channel so much. Thank you for taking me back to my formative years.
I came up listening to Bill Withers in the days when AM radio played all genres of music and you didn’t know what they were called. You just knew that it was great music 🎶. R.I.P. Bill Withers...
Bill was most certainly an awesome soul...his music is unparalleled. Many don't know he was a Navy man during Vietnam. I believe it was also there he came up with blessed lyrics. RIP Bill
Bill Withers passed away on March 31st at the age of 81, but his family didn't let anyone know until after the funeral. And yes, please do more. My personal favorite is, 'Who Is He (And What Is He To You)?'
What? I just watched a documentary about him, and he looked fine in the interviews. But it didn't say he was gone.. Perhaps I missed that part.. Edit: oh so they didn't tell anyone, ok. Rest in peace Bill
"Can I experience this with this man?" Exactly the right reaction all have when they hear Mr. Withers. He was absolutely amazing. Much missed. Thank you for your music #RIP Bill Withers.
Aint No Sunshine and Lean on Me. God he was a talented soul. The ability to hold a note was mind boggling. Makes me light-headed just listening to him. May he rest peacefully in music heaven.
Do you know what I like about this performance? Everything. Bill's voice, emotion, the utterly professional guitar players and the lovely friendly and laid-back smile of the drummer. Class.
Thank you sir. Enjoy your program. You're the same age as my oldest son. We introduce music to each other all the time. I introduced him to Johnny Cash, Dirty Vegas and Marty Robbins, and he introduced me to the White Stripes! He's even told me about songs from Led Zeppelin I didn't know (you did too!) Thank you. Bc
That song laid me out flat when it came out...Bill Withers could crawl inside your heart and head in a New York second...heaven's got one hellova band! His music is eternal!
I agree 100% with Michael Murillo's suggestion "Use Me"; it's one of my favorites since I was a kid. R.I.P. Mr. Withers ... Your music & your legacy will live on ... 😔
OUt of all of the live clips of this song, this is my favorite. This lineup just drive the mood of this song home. It seemed that he was never ashamed to admit vulnerability as a man. He is sad and lonely and that is okay. Oh and that drummer is MONEY!
I am 56, and grew up my whole life with this man's music. I wish I could share with what it was like to hear these songs as a young child when they were being played on the radio. Grandma's Hands., Use Me. The man was roots, and never left them. A man who could not be bought;. Peace
Bill Withers is important to me because he was one of my Dad's most favorite singers. I was introduced to his music in the family living room where Dad used to play his records. After Dad passed away, Bill Withers music brought him back to me. Now they're both gone. But I'm not sad. The music keeps them both alive in my life.
Man we lost a good musician and songwriter ,I have recently played along with alot of his songs and he was awesome basic chords but placed very stategically got to love his music !!!
You’re not alone, I often know the songs, but not the artist’s name. “Lean On Me” has a very special place in my heart. My dad was a Lutheran minister in the 70’s. Our congregation sang it a lot. It was, and still is, a hymn to me.
Aint no sunshine is just one of those great great songs Jamel. I had to listen again as soon as I saw you’d reacted to it. So good, so damned good, this song always did get to me and nothings changed over the years (tears in my eyes as I type this) .... the great late Bill Withers..... let me listen one more time. Thank you and damn you for playing this.
You should see the documentary on him "Still Bill" it is amazing. He talked a lot about why he wasn't touring, recording. He just didn't feel it but he wanted to badly. He just didn't want to do something that his heart was not into. He wanted to tour and make new music but just couldn't bring himself to do it. It broke my heart. He's my favorite singer of all time.
My grandma passed, my grandpa told me to put this song on. The moment he sang the first line, he started screaming balling crying. You never know the true hurt of a real man.

When Bill Withers was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Paul McCartney sought him out for a photo.
No shade on Withers but the Rock and Roll hall of fame has snubbed a lot of great singers and bands. While giving the nod to a lot of trash.
A musicians man!
Stevie inducted him
