- This is my first time ever reaction to the song the Love Will Tear Us Apart by the English 80's alternative band Joy Division. This is from a single release and their most popular track. The drums, synths and guitar really stood out to me in this track and really reminded me of all the other popular tracks from it's time.

The smiths and joy division are both from Manchester. A city responsible for some of the greatest bands of all time.
Balotelli,do you like Joy Division?Hmm ???
@@pinpen1980 I prefer early new order but I appreciate joy division. I'm from Manchester so I grew up with lots of cool bands! 😊
@@daviddeath6029 👌😎
You can add the Chameleons, another great Manchester band from the same period
@@alexandrestarinsky1055 You can add the happy Mondays, James, New order, the stone roses, 808 state the m people the list is vast.
The pain in this song is visceral. I’m 60 and I still feel it!
If you like Joy Division and Radiohead check out Bauhaus, contemporaries of both JD and The Smiths. "Bella Legosi's Dead" and "She's In Parties" are among their most well-known and a good place to start.
24 hrs and She's Lost Control are by far the best Joy Division tracks. Love will tear us apart is a decent single, and clearly laid the groundwork for what New Order did the rest of the decade, but by no means Joy Division's best work.
I'm a huge JD fan and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" was never one of my favorites, even though it is their best known song. It's probably similar to "Creep" by Radiohead. Also kind of like a starter song to their amazing world, but not really representative.
I'd recommend some other JD songs instead: New Dawn Fades, Day of the Lords, Atmosphere, Shadowplay, Decades, The Eternal, Heart and Soul. If you're looking for more atmospheric songs then these are the ones you should go to. And if you want to listen to a whole album from start to finish you should definitely choose "Unknown Pleasures", one of the most atmospheric and dense records ever produced.
Try "New Dawn Fades" - have a feeling, that could be more up your valley?
Ian Curtis was gifted, but was haunted by demons and drugs, never got the support he needed.A great songwriter, akin to many we have lost too young.
It's not really 80s. It was only released in 1980. It was released a month after Ian Curtis died.
This song was written in August of 1979, so yes sir. The song was recorded at Pennine Studios in Oldham on January 8, 1980, along with the B-side "These Days".
Back this up with The Triffids "Wide open road" and all your pain will bleed away ...
It sounds like you have adopted Radiohead as the soundtrack of your life, this band is mine. The good parts and the bad. Check out the Movie Control. I think you would love it. I purchased it here on RUclips but no idea where else to find it. Just look for clips to get the vibe. Every song has a story behind it.
Try Shadowplay and Transmission next.
1980 summer
You might enjoy the Joy Division movie; Control. This is not my favorite track though.
Leeds leeds are falling apart again 🦊
Manchester City anthem.
Somebody told me it sounds like country music.
Not K
JOY DIVISIONS best song.Check Atmosphere' it's huge.
WTF are you talking about, Jonty/Ollie/Piers/Tarquin/Ben?

They formed as a post punk band in 1976. Joy Division turned into New Order after their lead singer, Ian Curtis committed suicide in 1980.
They were already Warsaw when they went to the Sex Pistols show at the Lesser Free Trade hall in Manchester so I think they can rightly be called punk, not post-punk.
@@imixmuan9081 Yeah. Your probably right. Thanks for the info.
Just weeks before they were supposed to have their first tour in the US... can you imagine? How would the music scene have been different today if they went on that tour?
@@Skyrilla Not much....old fart who actually remembers all this from the time here. U2 and Echo and Bunnymen went on tour about the same time, both were pegged as the "next big thing" and obviously U2 filled that roll nicely and Echo and Bunnymen remained largely an indie band in the US. Similarly Joy Division with Ian Curtis would have never achieved the mainstream success that New Order did. And without New Order, there would have been no Hacienda. No Madchester music scene of the late eighties, no Rave culture, no current EDM. New Order were SO important, despite having some of the worst lyrics in music history. So....things worked out the way they did, and probably should, the obvious personal tragedy of Ian Curtis death notwithstanding.
@@imixmuan9081 I'll agree to disagree, or whatever the phrase is.
Post punk classic. You say more uplifting than the smiths but the lyrics counteract the beat. One if the best songs ever.
You were 15, your elder brothers were kinda progressive rock posthippies and you listened to this stuff. It was so refreshing.
Fair play to ya going out there reaching into the past. Iconic late 70's early 80's post punk JOY DIVISION!
If you like their sound, then you can hear their heat breaking story in the movie memorializing them: Control 2007 - truly an amazing movie
Only together a short time. Reformed under name New Order. Their music gave inspiration to grouos such as young U2 to the Killers.
The Killers got their name from a joy division video.
New Order like Blue Monday??????? i thought the vocals sounded like that song but I didnt wanna sound dumb lmao
The reason for the change was dude to the lead singer Ian Curtis suicide.
The guitars Bernard Sumner took over the Vocals.

Radiohead covered Joy Division's song called "Ceremony". You should check it out, it's on RUclips and it's pretty great.
It's a source of probably misplaced pride that New Zealand was the only country in which _Love Will Tear Us Apart_ was No 1 in the charts.
Fuck all like Radiohead young man, although there's no way you could have known that. Keep listening & doing what you're doing. Cheers.
Yeah the more I listen to them the more I agree with this, they assumedly just share the same demographic i guess
I hope you give She's Lost Control a listen.
This is my former husband and my “song”! And yes, I said former but he’s still my best friend. We just didn’t bring out the best in each other. And we didn’t want the same things after being together for decades. The 80’s are a time we look back to with such fondness - not just him and I, but everyone who was lucky enough to live in that era. 🖤
RIP IC
Sneaking listens to john peel under the bed clothes when i was about 8-9 years old and hearing joy division ,,, been a fan since the late 70's and listen to them nearly every week still
At time when it was hard to get record put out and still became a billion dollar business over the years after 48 later and still a win
... clue into joy division... well worth your time
the reviewer sounds like he's been teleported in from 100 years ago, edwardian english. where the fuck did you get that accent from?
I remember hearing the news that Ian had killed himself, right before they were to grace the USA on their first North American tour.
I would've seen them for sure had they made it here. Didn't surprise me he killed himself, just the timing did.
if you like drums, react to Broadcast's song Letter from Home... nobody reacts to them & they're missing out.
Can you do a review of NEU 75 or just the song Negativeland .Please
Para mí esa época pasó de largo, porque era demasiado joven... pero a finales de los 90's e inicios de los 2000 (gracias napster) descubrí lo que sería mi droga musical: Joy Division, The Cure, Interpol, The Smiths, She Wants Revenge, Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, etc.
It's been used in tv adverts .
Something I liked about Joy Division was their bass...
I actually still dance to this. How can anyone sit still while this is playing, talk about a way to instantly fill a dance floor. lol
Joy Division became New Order sort of. Two killer bands. Do you dig the band Rush? They are a drum heavy band. Cheers!
Du wirst deine Reise machen. I know it. LG
Try a bit of Rush if you like drums

Novelty is my favourite Joy Division track....RIP IAN CURTIS
After the lead singer died they became New Order.
Another excellent Joy Division tune is No Love Lost.
Joy Division New Dawn Fades….give it a go!
Giggs will tear you apart again
Leeds are falling apart again
buy the album and have a spliff and really listen to it - you;; enjoy it
1960s,1970s,1980s the golden age of pop/rock music.
90s weren't bad either. Internet killed music, for the most part. Sleaford Mods, Idles and Fontaines D.C excluded.
