One of my favorite songs to play on the piano back in the day. Such a beautiful song. The record version had drums and bass come in on the second verse I think. I know they came in, just not sure if I'm remember when correctly.
I remember seeing this at the time on TV and making that piano error. From what I heard he wouldn’t perform “Against All Odds” for many years afterwards due to this error. I guess it bothered him so much he couldn’t bring himself to perform it again.
Phil was part of the most amazing things about Live Aide. First, he performed on both continents. He performed in England and then jumped the Concord and flew to Philly. Then he performed this amazing set. AND THEN, he was the 2nd drummer in the Led Zepplin reunion.....he was so amazed at being in the middle, he missed his drum intro. There were some sound issues in Philly, so for him to sound so amazing int his set......priceless.
The studio version did have drums and other instruments come in after the first verse that builds the song into an emotional intensity that can't be captured here. But this solo performance is magnificent.
I read somewhere that Phil always makes a mistake on "Against All Odds". It's probably one of his most technically advanced hit singles for piano, and his primary instrument is drums, so he struggles with this one.
I wish I could remember the interview, but he says after this particular performance he started hiring people to play the piano for him because of that mistake in the beginning. Edit: It was VH1 Storytellers: ruclips.net/video/o7-CvO1x7DE/видео.html

The best song ever...
Phil is fabulous! As always. Drummer and here he is smooth on the piano. What a performer. Thanks for revisiting this song on your channel.
