Please react to tangerine by Led Zeppelin and Mona Lisa’s and mad hatters. I had requested this before I just wanted to know if you were planning on doing it.
My dad used to tell me when I was a kid that Peter Cetera was the best singer who ever lived. At the time I rolled my eyes. 40 years later I get it and have a deep appreciation for Chicago.
I don't care what the haters think, Chicago in the 80's was amazing. Peter Cetera's unique voice and melancholy lyrics are perfect. There is an amazing tag at the end of that song that was cut off that is quentisentual Chicago.
The problem is, as amazing as it may be, it really wasn't the same band. On this song none of the brass (nearly half the band) are absent, replaced by orchestra. Robert Lamm was MIA, and it is a little cute of him to play along to keyboard parts he never recorded, or lip-sync vocals he didn't sing. This is more a construction of David Foster, the producer, who had a thing for rewriting or co-writing a band's material, and replacing members with session musicians. This song is basically a Peter Cetera solo song co-written with Foster. But technically it was released as Chicago, so there you go.
"There is an amazing tag at the end of that song that was cut off that is quentisentual Chicago." Yes, there is, Mustardseedish. It's a shame that's missing here. It's like a completely different song merged with this one. I had the album (yes, album . . . I'm that old) so that's the way I'm used to hearing this.
Dude! You have reached the tip of the iceberg with Chicago. “Stay The Night”, You’re The Inspiration”, “25 Or 6 To 4”, “Saturday In The Park”, “Hard Habit To Break”... so, so many.
@@AluminumCloud74 Perhaps, but it is like listening to We Will Rock you, without We are the Champions immediately following. Without it, you feel short-changed.
I remember the R&B group doing the cover was Az Yet, which was good. I remember Peter singing a spot in the cover. Peter is my all time favorite singer. That voice has captured my attention since childhood (1970's). Can still listen to him for hours on end. 🙂
This was basically a David Foster and Peter Cetera solo project using the name Chicago. The rest of the group went along with it because they were desperate for a hit(and $$$) after the death of Terry Kath.
@@Dawnfrnj They were all good. iMho 😉 I think the problem is a lot of people got used to the band sounding a certain way and it changed. Yes, old Chicago was excellent ... but if you just take the post Terry Keth stuff at sound value, it was really good too. It was different, but it was good. (Music is subjective though - we can’t all like the same things) I try not to make musical comparisons too often because when I do that, I feel that I miss out. @@aaronhiggs Yes. They really became a different band, especially after David Foster got ahold of them. I won't knock their ballads, but early Chicago is still in my blood. They were my first concert at the San Diego Sports Arena, on their first album tour (Chicago Transit Authority). That ticket stub is a treasure to me.
Chicago is such a talented and unique band. I've loved them from the start. Peter Cetera has such a beautiful voice. I love when he sings "You're going to be the lucky one". Today's bands can't hold a candle.
I remember when Chicago first came on the scene. It was love at first sound! I didn't know any one of my peers back in the day that didn't love Chicago. Peter Cetera... one of the most identifiable voices ever. I’m only slightly biased as a Chicagoan.
His voice is so Romantic.

Yes Livin' In The Limelight is my favorite solo song by him. It is so rare and kind of lost to most anymore. Jamel would like that song I think.
I've said it before, but if the band with the name "Chicago" didn't make the city of Chicago proud, they would've been run out of the country.
