Genesis was on a break because Phil had moved to Vancouver to try to patch up his crumbling family situation, and when it became clear that things were not gonna work out, he wrote a bunch of poems (for lack of a better description) as a way of dealing with it. Shortly after that, Genesis' manager was checking on him and saw his notebook. He pointed out to Phil that they would be great lyrics and he should write songs for them.

As a black kid in the 80's, Phil became one of my absolute favorite artists whether solo or with Genesis. "Take Me Home" and "I Wish It Would Rain Down" were my all time favorites, but "I Don't Care Anymore" isn't far behind and always makes an impression. Great reaction.

  • @herrzimm
    @herrzimm 3 года назад +93

What makes this song so powerful:
    1) The constant underlying "war drum" sound.
    2) The "build up" of not caring anymore as you reach the point of KNOWING it is about to end.
    3) The "explosion" of not caring anymore because you want to destroy it all in your wake.
    4) The "complex" emotions of frustration vs acceptance of a situation.
    5) The "stream of calm" that flows as the realization that "not caring anymore" gives you freedom.
    6) The "payback" of letting someone know that their "games and bs" simply don't work anymore.

Yeah, it was the beginning of a tough journey. My 3 year old was diagnosed with autism 5 months later. It's been a long, tough road; but I came out stronger, and better, with 3 great adult kids I'm proud of. Yeah, my 27 year old is like an 8 year old most of the time, but he's my precious miracle just the same. Every limit they placed on him, he overcame. 😊 Now you know why it's my theme song.😉👍

This was from his solo album, entitled
*Hello, I Must Be Going.* Recorded after his divorce. I'm sure he was still feeling the bad effects from the break up.
But you're right, sometimes a person can lose themselves in a relationship. When that other person is too demanding, and not giving back as much as they take. I've been there myself, and was finally fed up, and broke it off. There's a really good song by
REO Speedwagon called *"Time For Me To Fly, "* which sums up what it's like.
Everyone has a breaking point, as to how much they can take. The key is to recognize when it's a lost cause, and walk away gracefully, before things become out of hand. A lot of people don't want to let go out of pride, big mistake. Because if it's already bad, it'll only get worse. It won't be good if the couple becomes a crime statistic...

Those first three solo albums by Phil Collins are masterpieces, without a weak song on any of them!
I heard someone once describe them as 'All killer, no filler', & I have to agree!
My favourite album track by PC is 'Why can't it wait till morning', wonderful song, great sentiment!

Check out Land Of Confusion by Genesis. It was written in '86 but it's just as relevant now as it was then. Also, it has a killer video based on the British television show Spitting Image.

Phil gave us great music that is timeless- From his love songs like “Groovy kind of Love” to ones like this and in between - I was in my teens and getting into my 20’s- We played and used these songs to get whatever message across that we needed to, back in the day for sure! That wife and divorce he went through - man! 😳 “In the air tonight” was also about her. ❤️✌️

Same here. 51 in the blink of an eye, I lost my woman, best friend, family, and everything I owned. She took the dog too. Dating at 51, in the days of covid-19, pretty much sucks! I simply do not give a damn anymore! Get outta my way. I do my best to be a good person but, if someone forces me to open that cage where all of my anger is locked away, I almost feel sorry for them

Chester Thompson that black drummer was the unofficial fourth member of Genesis. He was the touring drummer that freed up Phil Collins to play the frontman. He also toured with Phil Collins on his solo tours as is the case here. They would occasionally get into drum battles on stage.

"Thru These Walls"! One of the most bizarre performances I've ever seen. Small venue in Upper Darby, PA. Phil was a total perv! He sat on the edge of the stage wearing a bathrobe and stroking a blanket...one leg dangling off of the stage....glass in hand as if listening into the next room. We sat in Row JJ...13th row. If you like warped find that song!

When I felt major betrayal of the heart in the mid-1980s, this song was good medicine more me, played at the highest volume I could tolerate.
It didn't take away the pain but it made it a bit easier to bear, as did the bottle of Ol' #7 sharing my grief. Thanks Phil.
    Let the music play.
