    • @AFCompany
      @AFCompany 4 года назад +23

      To be honestly they really haven’t. They screwed themselves by trying to upscale Hyundai with the Genesis and Eqqus then turning one upscale model into a brand. They also have a horrible dealer network and most of them are connected to Hyundai which buyers looking for luxury cars won’t stop at.
      They needed to go the Honda/Acura route and make a luxury division from the start. Acura was so successful it was outselling Mercedes and BMW when it came out, so then Toyota copied with Lexus and Nissan copied with INFINITI, all solely due to how successful Acura was as a Japanese luxury brand.
      So Genesis really hasn’t done anything. They make beautiful cars for sure but no one is buying them because no one knows where to buy one and the general public doesn’t know what Genesis is.

      When I bot a 335d in '11, I called local BMW dealer asking for quote for oil service. He said, "$235". After I hung up, he called back apologizing for misquoting the price. I was momentarily relieved, but then he said, "I was wrong. It's $285." Later, at the parts counter, I was charged $16 for a liter of DEF in BMW's special, non-reusable filler neck bottle. Reminded me of the old joke where a sales clerk said to a customer, "Thank you for not saying anything about my hunched back." The customer replied, "Hunched back? Hell, everything else in here is so high, I thought it was your ass!"

  • @jerrybarrax5618

    Another great review. I'm not crazy about that humongous grill. The flip side of the depreciation problem is affordability on the used car market. I bought a 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 in February and got a really quiet, luxurious, well-appointed car with over 20,000 miles left on the factory warranty for just under $22k. I love the torque, effortless acceleration and sound of the naturally aspirated 3.8L V6. It's the quietest car I've ever owned and has a terrific 15-speaker sound system. The clarity and sound stage is awesome and the bluetooth connection is much faster than the one in my 2014 Accord.
    It's not as agile as my Accord, so I totally agree about the handling. It feels like a big car and doesn't corner as responsively as I'd like. There's a little creak from the panoramic sunroof on cold mornings with the shade open, but you can close it and the noise goes away. That's my only gripe.
    Despite the lack of premium dealer experience, the build quality is excellent. According to CR, the Hyundai and Genesis brands are more reliable and have better customer satisfaction ratings than Honda, Acura, Cadillac and most other brands. It's a solid value all around.

      The G80 stomps the Lexus... The ES is filled with hard plastics, its infotainment is crap as usual, it seems its quite heavy, and built on McPherson strut FWD platform... The least noble of configurations for a premium sedan.
      The G80 on the other hand ticks all the boxes. The interior is lauded. Some even saying is on par with Porsches on fit and finish. Nicely padded materials all over the place. RWD and fully independent suspension, so, better driving dynamics than the ES at least. Longer warranty and quite a decent track reliability wise. And its quite a lot more exclusive right now since its not selling as much as the competition.
      The G80 just stomps the ES. The ES probably has very little aspects in favour. The hybrid is quite efficient and refined. But you can get that from a Camry too. And being a simpler car will probably make it a more reliable and economic car to own. One of those double wishbone arms in the G80 probably cost more than the entire front suspension on the Lex.

    This new G80, despite the added power of the 3.5T and reduction in weight, is slower to 60mph and the 1/4 mile when compared to the 2018-2020 G80 Sport with the 3.3T. That car weighed 300lbs more than this new one. Not sure if the new transmission tuning has something to do with it, or if this new engine's combustion is being restricted for emission purposes. Could also explain why Hyundai/Kia opted not to feature this engine in the G70 and Stinger. Perhaps it needs extra tuning and is not yet ready for prime time performance like the 3.3T. Any thoughts on this, Savagegeese?

    We went from last gen G80 to Volvo XC90. Absolutely love the XC90, would be an easy re-lease, however, I do miss the quietness of the 80, so we may get lured back in the next two years, maybe to the SUV or even back into the G80. For us, it was the level of luxury, refinement for the dollar and lack of brand recognition/public perception. I place a high value on Genesis' ability to provide higher levels of luxury while laying low. The Bowers system in the XC90 is incredible, but the Lexicon is no slouch either and the isolated interior certainly helps. Amazing review as always.

What, are the folks at Genesis crazy and made the mid size sedan better than the full sized one? Absolute nonsense. Any of the 6L E Class hybrid Mercs are probably even more quiet than this due to the superior powertrain. Volvos are insanely quiet too. DB count does nothing. A single variable test is incapable of determining the noise level of a cars cabin.
