No need to feel the pain, Feel happy. Market needs competition and Genesis is more than a viable alternative. Although long term reliability is yet to be proven, it’s a low bar to cross because it only needs to outlast any European car, not a Japanese one.
@@Jabid21 agreed. I think that's true for Hyundai as a whole. It's no longer the bargain-bin alternative, they are easily competing with and even surpassing the big brands the market. Genesis has already put a lot of the Germans on edge, and the new GV80 and GV70 is only going to increase the pressure.
@@Jabid21 i think he may have been referring to the over abundance of SUV's. This popularity of SUV's is getting out of hand ✋. What happens to the advantage of higher ride height visibility when everyone drives an SUV or truck?
Agree! Savage geese is one of the most informative you-tubers out there, today. Does a dam nice video and very educational. Others on the you tube car reviews come off like a car salesman reading a sales brochure. Not objective or informative. Keep up the good work and Happy New Year.
I feel like the fancy configurator, bling factor, and abundance of options and features, this will end up being baby's first luxury car for a lot of people.. then they'll stick with the brand, at least that's what Genesis is hoping for..
Can you blame them? Why go after the old and stubborn when you can capture the next generation that doesn't hold the same loyalties to the Germans or lexus.
I think one of the biggest highlights Geese missed was the fact that both the 2.5T and the 3.5TT are both dual injection engines...meaning they both have port and direct injection which should be a better setup in the long run compared to competitors like the X5 (direct injection only, also the new MDX 3.0 turbo 6) with reliability. Hyundai and Kia have said that’s the biggest reason they upgraded from the 3.3TT used in the stinger and g70
Really glad they're heading this route too. That's why I went with a Toyota just recently: they dual port their engines. No need to worry about GDI carbon build up like the German brands.
@@isserdigan2835 Yeah but it’s only direct injection and you would need to have proper carbon cleaning every 30k to 40k miles. It probably is a well designed and robust engine, but that doesn’t negate it from DI problems like carbon build up...
If they can afford it. Monthly lease payment on a 72k GV80 is 2.5-3 times more than QX60 Luxe or Pure. The GV80 has a ridiculously high MF, no incentives, and dealers are selling above MSRP. Hyundai is just riding on this hype.
My god.. the music, the beautiful camera shots, your production standards are really excellent. Thanks for all your hard work this year. I appreciate you and jack putting in endless hours of lugging gear and charging batteries and editing late eating cold arbys and pizza.

Great review - as always. I drive a 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan, no rush on next car but it will most probably be a G80 or GV80. Nice to see review looking at it from buyers perspective and trying to find faults. There are too many reviewers that find everything great.
I used to have the 2011 Genesis. 130k miles. Literally zero problems, gave it to my mom and she loves it. Very smooth ride, great powertrain, and I picked it up for 11k 3 years ago
Mark, Jack, thank you so much for making quality content, and for having made 2020 more enjoyable. Keep up the excellent work! Happy New Year to you both, and to all the Savage Goslings out there.
Pretty impressive for a first effort. The germans have had about 2 decades of refinement to get just a fraction ahead with their current generation. And I didn’t know just how much end-to-end process control Hyundai has. Impressive.
At this price point they are no longer in the value game but the lack of dealer service to the likes of Lexus or Audi. They would have to provide much bigger market incentive to penetrate into the segment.
The quality of your videos is always impressive, this has me watching videos for vehicles that I have no interest in. Looking forward to more of your content in the next year.
I cant be any more satisfied with our purchase. I got the v6 AWD drivetrain for my wife. Ride quality is gloriously magnificent, does not lose to any other luxury brands in this category, feels as if I am riding through clouds instead of hard asphalt road. Inside cabin is simple and yet refined and elegant - I much prefer this over some other makers' cluttered panels. Lastly, I notice many people doing double takes of this car. I am mightily pleased with the design - those on the design team (interior as well as exterior), along with the chassis and drivetrain team definitely nailed this one. I am also looking to purchase gv70 for myself as I prefer smaller vehicle when it comes out.
They're doing a great job with differentiation. Great cars. I've been telling people about the HMG/KIA vertical integration advantage since the original Genesis. So good for the money.
What I would point to in any discussion about the GV80 and a comparably equipped BMW X5 is the stellar reliability of Hyundai / Genesis, their ten year warranty, and the absolute *hosing* you will get every time you need to have virtually *anything* done on your BMW. (I'm surprised BMW hasn't started charging for putting air in the tires) Cost of ownership is a huge differential, and coupled with the fact that BMW has not been known for their bullet proof reliability of late, I think that there is a compelling argument to be made for the $10,000 cheaper Genesis. Especially when you take into consideration the fact that the value of both vehicles will plummet like rocks tossed from an airplane the minute you drive them off the lot.
The 10 year warranty can be misleading, it only comes with the top level trim, otherwise It's a $3,500 option on all the lower trims. Tho i was able to get the 10yr warranty on my 2020 kia Sorento Sv6 for 500 bucks
Your right for most of it but Hyundai and so on have been having transmission issues for long term, also that 10,000 dollar difference isn’t enough for the badge of a German brand
Isn’t maintenance covered on New BMWs for 3-4 years. This essentially covers most leases. Doesn’t matter that there is $10,000 delta in msrp when you go to lease and monthly payment is the same due to BMWs superior residuals. This is how most people shop for their X5s. You will find hardly anyone getting into a new BMW that’s planning to keep it 10 years.
@@byronnasem4110it must be incentive to buy their new luxury product, cuz I went to both Hyundai and Kia and the 10 year warranty only came with the top trim And like I said, I bought a 2020 kia, I had to pay 500 bucks when they were asking 3,500 for the optional 10yr warranty
@@jsfbay1 if I can into a GV70 sport for under 55K and it can get to 60 in under 5 seconds, thats a good buy based on percived quality on early videos.
@@AustinF516 I know this post was a month ago, but if you're interested in at least tinkering in the options that MAY come to North America, you can configure the 2021 GV70 on the Hyundai korean website IN ENGLISH and see - potentially - what the NA GV70 Sport 3.5T would look like with your preferences. I fell in love with so many things about the Genesis GV70 and it's not landing until late summer. Using a currency configurator, my GV70 came in over $60k but that's competing with my potential X3 M40i build and so it is less of a heartbreak. The difference will undoubtedly be the future leasing incentives, which BMW will always eclipse competitors. Aside from the G70, these Genesis cars lease terribly. I am considering purchasing the GV70 instead because I do believe in the value, overall reliability (plus better warranty) and then if needed to sell off at Year 3, it would not be an astronomical loss.
I'll never own one of these cars, hardly interested in it, but yet I've watched this video several times just because it's so pleasant to watch and the camera work is amazing.
I was ready to buy a GLE a year ago. Then the last MB dealer that had not ruined a service relationship did so (lied abd also engine oil drained in my garage floor). I still want a luxury SUV equivalent and the main variable is dealership experience for me. Because of that, the price is more equal for this. The main competitor for this seems to be the Q7.
I agree with the reviewers, it’s a fantastic suv for $50-60k, but the subpar dealership and ownership experience, not to mention the lack of heritage and brand awareness, prohibits it from selling at the $70k price point no matter the features and options. Genesis has to crawl before it can walk.
I'm 41yr old Dad and having owned Audi, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche products, the Genesis brand is ABSOLUTELY on my radar and will most likely be my next purchase if I go for a luxury vehicle. I don't care much about the dealership experience. I care about the value for my money being spent. The GV80 would absolutely get picked over all the other foreign brands because they are new, unique and a serious value purchase!
The G80 Sport is such a good car I have driven it quite a bit and it really moves with that low end torque. People who power chip these or the Stingers and now the GV80 are really waking up a beast😁👍. Solid review you guy's did
this is probably the best "$ for $" in 2021. for $70k for top trim, it has more features than a GLE450 costing $80+k. If KIA Telluride after two years on the market still sells with ridiculous dealer market up close to $70k, Genesis GV80 is a homerun.
I drove both the 40i and GV80 4 cylinder advance yesterday. The 6 cylinders I was supposed to drive were sold Saturday morning. I had driven the 6 prestige about a week ago already and was back for a second drive with my sons who wanted to see the GV80. They were crazy about the Car. I ordered a prestige with the 6. I liked the bmw but felt they are everywhere. Plus as a prior Porsche and BMW owner I do not care about the badges anymore. The genesis and its technology are impressive.
People who wind up getting this vehicle are most definitely educated car shoppers who do a lot of research. A lot of people settle. This brand doesn’t really compromise unless you’re very into the brand name itself which most people don’t even know exists.
Excellent car review channel; the level of detail is unmatched. Very organic conversation from people who know about cars. High production video. My only advice is to pin your Lav Mic on your right side so it doesn't rub on the seatbelt.
Great review. I owned a 2012 Hyundai Genesis RSpec and now a 2020 G80 Sport. I was a BMW snob for many years. I will never go back to BMW. To be honest, I have been treated better by the Hyundai dealerships than BMW. Both Hyundai dealerships have gone above and beyond to make a great experience
I can say that my dad went from a 2013 BMW X5 to a 2016 BMW 750i and he now has the Genesis GV80 v6. He likes the Genesis more than either BMW, partly due to reliability issues with both BMWs. I have also driven all three cars extensively and although the GV80 is down 75hp compared to the 750i it does not feel one bit slower. Genesis really outdid themselves with this vehicle.
I think you guys are some of the best car reviewers out there. You guys analytic approach to the mechanics and features is well done but your analysis into why the vehicle is a good buy or not is impeccable. Thanks
i have a 2016 AMG GLC 43 that I don't like for it's harsh ride and the infotainment system and I've been thinking about eventually upgrading to a more luxury oriented SUV for my wife, which will be our long distance cruiser as well. I've had X5s, MLs and MDX in the past and I think this checks all the boxes. Only thing is the dealership experience but the value and features might just be enough to win me over.
Finally saw one out in the wild a couple of weeks ago, and I gotta say, even though I wasn't a fan of the looks before, in real life, it looks awesome. Head turner for sure. Nothing like it on the roads.
14:26 Just point out to the car shopper that, in 5 years the Genesis wont hit you with a $5000.00 bill for something that shouldn't break in the first place. Everyday after you purchase a BMW it gets more expensive. Not so in a Genesis. Note to the rich: Just because you *can* afford some high repair bill, doesn't mean you *want* to.
Color me skeptical. We've had 2012, 2014, and 2016 Hyundais or Kias in various parts of our family. Each model was touted as when "Hyundai/Kia has definitely put their reliability problems behind them", and yet all 3 have averaged 3 unscheduled service visits (i.e. something is broken) a year since new, which is more than any of our Toyotas or Mazdas (or even, God help me, the one Ford) have had in *5* years, despite all being maintained per manufacturer guidance. And that despite said scheduled service being notably more expensive (because it's more frequent) than the Japanese brands. Maybe 2020 was the year Hyundai/Kia ACTUALLY turned the corner on reliability, but at this point I'm going to need to see 5 solid years of data via Consumer Reports or a similar service before they get another chance.
I remember seeing one of these on the street when I was stationed in South Korea last year and I had to do a double take because I had no idea what it was and it’s a unique looking vehicle in a good way.
Great review.... By far the best one I have watched.... One of the issues that pushed me to buy one is the post sale costs. I have had Porches and BMW and I am not sure if I have ever had anmoil change for less than 500 USD. Please include maintenance cost in reviews.
The Koream brands are doing well in terms of maturing their design instead copying other brands like before and the interior has improved a lot! But the thing that is pushing me back from them is the reliability in the long run.
How do you know about the experience. Bet you haven’t even had a Kia/Hyundai, and they are having legal issues with starting their own dealership network.
@@bradleyscarreviews ????????? You walk into a Hyundai dealer. They give you a shitty experience. It's common knowledge they have garbage dealers. Why is this so hard for you to believe.

I’ve test driven an 85k X5 2019. It was underwhelming. BMW has fallen behind in the recent years. MB right now leads the pack in the German SUV’s. The GLS is on another level. I sat in 2 recently, it’s truly head and shoulders above any SUV, including Land Rover.
I came up behind one of these for the first time today my first assumption was a Porsche Cayenne until l looked closer....impressive looking vehicle. This review would put it on my shopping list if l were shopping.
@@pnourani the RX definitely isn’t the better car. Doesn’t have as much luxury, not nearly as much tech, and not as much power by any means, and the genesis gv80 engine is dual and port injection which will make is just as reliable as the RX.
@@pnourani rx is based on the 2013 highlander, although I don't think it is a bad thing. I think a gx is a better comparison to this genesis because at least gx has its unique personality, while rx is just a blank piece of paper when comes to persona
@@wagrj5738 I agree that Lexus has disappointed me a lot. Too heavily focused on ride comfort than driving dynamics and now no 4 door sports sedan outside of IS. I'd love to see more wagon options in the US from manufacturers.
The Genesis GV80 looks amazing! If I could afford a luxury SUV, this would be the one I’d get. Sadly, that’s not my life *cries in poor*. The issues with the dealerships is unsettling, but the concierge service sounds really nice. I’m really excited for your review of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, especially your thoughts the fake engine noise. You don’t like lack of engine noise in Teslas, but I don’t think fake engine noise is the solution.
As a G80 owner, I can tell you the "experience" sucks.... While you wait, you're in the "Chicken Bus" with the rest of the Hyundai owners. I really don't give a crap about mini golf or a cappuccino but a quiet, comfy chair & decent WiFi would be great.
Psychology is always hilarious. People will buy MB, BMW, Audi and put up with the horrific quality and often extremely expensive running costs (except for BMW), yet would never consider this vehicle even though it has better quality, FREE maintenance for five years, FREE concierge service for every service, and so on. But this is the same mentality that will spend $120K on a Tesla Model X even though it was rated one of these most unreliable vehicles sold today.
Image, badge, marketing. Same reason moms are told more expensive less useful CUVs are cool and minivans Are not is the same reason this won’t sell and bmw, mb and Tesla will do better in sales numbers.
As someone in the market, the biggest thing I see against the gv80 is the back seat legroom. The q7 and especially the gle seem to be a lot bigger. This is more like the x5.
This channel is so good. It gives all the info I need and the interesting teat bits as well. BTW, Genesis is breaking it out of the park. Such a good value proposition!
About the MDX I would wait till to see the 2022 coming out in February? What I like is the look and style and that it different and not a lot of people are going to have it like the germans or Asian.
One thing to remember...Lexus and Acura started out as brands few were willing to take a "chance" on. I think it's arguable this product is very good for it's young history and worth a look.
I think you’re remembering the story correctly. When the Lexus LS dropped in the 90s, people were literally throwing their Mercedes and BMWs away just to get one. It was such a huge shift, that Lexus didn’t have to wait so long to become a true competitor. Genesis is way behind on that front, selling only 6,000 G80s in 2021 which was their best selling year. They have a really long way to go and are not making too many waves, other than in the styling, which is from the Germans.
I'm no engineer, but I don't feel that the use of stamped steel on many of the GV80's suspension parts is due strictly to cost cutting. With more of an off-road mission, I think they were going for more strength and durability, much in the same way that Toyota has stuck with their steel understructure on the Land Cruiser. If I were buying something like this and planned on keeping it for at least ten years, I think I'd prefer the steel.
@@stevee8318 I agree, but they build and sell them partially based upon their ability to go there if need be. And while you don't see it every day, there are people who absolutely flog their Land Cruisers and Range Rovers, both of which are rather pricey.
Hyundai/Kia/Genesis are the kings of cost cutting where 99% of consumers don't know/care and pumping them into where they do, which is why those brands are always so competitive from a feature/price cost ratio. They aren't shitboxes that fall apart mind you, but that is why they seem so much more competitive to the Japanese/German competitors in their respective brackets.

Long time owner of multiple "luxury" brands (Lexus, Mercedes, Porsche, Land Rover, and Audi) and I cannot wait to get a Genesis GV70. My wife is considering the GV80 when the warranty on her Range Rover expires. We test drove the 2.5 version of the GV80 and found it very impressive for the asking price.
the napkin origami is savagely metaphoric. Great review, if they took a bit more of there resources to weight balance, I think they'd have a case for the competition, its a good looking design.
A Gv90 is on my Genesis wishlist ✨🔮 I'd also like them to make a coupe, but not just a g70 or g80 with two of the doors taken off. I think if they make a Genesis coupe it should have its own personal style and substance, not a clone or derivative of an existing model.
Genesis is trying and it shows, it will take time to break that loyalty people have with Mercedes and the Germans if they ever do. This might not be enough. It just has to be more and different. Unfortunately, the driving experience is usually the last thing on people's minds at that price, people focus on all the features and comforts. That's another reason why cars today don't focus on a sporty feel, it is the comfort that sells. That and EPA.
100% agree. I love a drivers car. The drive comes first, not the bells and whistles. Cars used to have optional navigation screens.....oh how things have changed lol.
I'm still shocked at the improvements on the Hyundai/kia/genesis lines. They were not great products years back but I'm eating my words now. They are much competitive in just about every aspect. Very nice ride. Great video !

Really love the direction Genesis is going. This looks like a great crossover, and it pains me to say that
No need to feel the pain, Feel happy.

I approve of this routine.
Happy New Years! New Year, new beginnings! Hope you all have a blessed year!
I feel like the fancy configurator, bling factor, and abundance of options and features, this will end up being baby's first luxury car for a lot of people.. then they'll stick with the brand, at least that's what Genesis is hoping for..
It's a brilliant idea. Make a good first impression.
Can you blame them? Why go after the old and stubborn when you can capture the next generation that doesn't hold the same loyalties to the Germans or lexus.
@ACFM hd ye
That’s very true and good point I don’t think there are many TT with Dual injection except Toyota and Lexus
Ugh, wish the stinger would get the 3.5TT
Really glad they're heading this route too. That's why I went with a Toyota just recently: they dual port their engines. No need to worry about GDI carbon build up like the German brands.
The B58 engine in the X5. Has been very reliable. In fact its one of the most awarded engines in the industry.
@@isserdigan2835 Yeah but it’s only direct injection and you would need to have proper carbon cleaning every 30k to 40k miles. It probably is a well designed and robust engine, but that doesn’t negate it from DI problems like carbon build up...

The vertical integration aspect of this company finally clicked for me, thank you!
Oddly enough, there's a ton of leased Infiniti QX60's in my neighborhood - I feel like this will be what they end up all leasing next.
That'll be a massive upgrade. The qx60 infotainment is godawful.
It would be a significant step up from a Pathfinder with some fake wood slapped on
The QX60 is just a pathfinder with some chrome trim and an infiniti badge. The GV80 will be a MASSIVE upgrade
If they can afford it. Monthly lease payment on a 72k GV80 is 2.5-3 times more than QX60 Luxe or Pure. The GV80 has a ridiculously high MF, no incentives, and dealers are selling above MSRP. Hyundai is just riding on this hype.
So true the qx60 is nothing but a pathfinder with slightly better clothing
My god.. the music, the beautiful camera shots, your production standards are really excellent.

At this price point they are no longer in the value game but the lack of dealer service to the likes of Lexus or Audi. They would have to provide much bigger market incentive to penetrate into the segment.
Deep incentives.

The 10 year warranty can be misleading, it only comes with the top level trim, otherwise
It's a $3,500 option on all the lower trims.
Tho i was able to get the 10yr warranty on my 2020 kia Sorento Sv6 for 500 bucks
Your right for most of it but Hyundai and so on have been having transmission issues for long term, also that 10,000 dollar difference isn’t enough for the badge of a German brand
@@JustaPersonTryinToHuman365 That’s false, all genesis models regardless of trim have the 10 year 100,000 mile power train warranty my guy
@@byronnasem4110it must be incentive to buy their new luxury product, cuz I went to both Hyundai and Kia and the 10 year warranty only came with the top trim

When you mentioned the hospital beds shifting your position every so often, that's how I know you were a nurse in your past life.
Local dealer adds $2500+ markup. That is a total turn off. I won’t even open the door when I see that on the sticker.
Loved this review, and I love what Genesis has done. For me, I would not have a hard time choosing this over something German.
The G80 Sport is such a good car I have driven it quite a bit and it really moves with that low end torque. People who power chip these or the Stingers and now the GV80 are really waking up a beast😁👍.
Solid review you guy's did
A seriously balanced review. Makes the suv look compelling for consideration and a test drive.
I like that Genesis has finally found their style, as opposed to doing what they used to do and copying other manufacturers.
this is probably the best "$ for $" in 2021. for $70k for top trim, it has more features than a GLE450 costing $80+k. If KIA Telluride after two years on the market still sells with ridiculous dealer market up close to $70k, Genesis GV80 is a homerun.
$70k you can get k900 or almost 2 tellurides
Know what the KIA dealers call the Telluride? A "Sell Your Ride"... A typical dealer supply only lasts 10 days.
I think the argument over the Acura TLX in their recent video served as a turning point, for the better. Its hard to define but it's there.

Thanks

The dealership experience is a sh*tshow. It’s so bad that I question my purchase of a Genesis.
How do you know about the experience. Bet you haven’t even had a Kia/Hyundai, and they are having legal issues with starting their own dealership network.

Why would anyone buy this over an rx350 though. Rx is the better car for about the same price.
@@pnourani the RX definitely isn’t the better car. Doesn’t have as much luxury, not nearly as much tech, and not as much power by any means, and the genesis gv80 engine is dual and port injection which will make is just as reliable as the RX.

The issues with the dealerships is unsettling, but the concierge service sounds really nice. I’m really excited for your review of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, especially your thoughts the fake engine noise.

No one is going to take a luxury crossover offroad
@@stevee8318 I agree, but they build and sell them partially based upon their ability to go there if need be. And while you don't see it every day, there are people who absolutely flog their Land Cruisers and Range Rovers, both of which are rather pricey.
Look at the baddest off road trucks, Raptor, G-wagon, TRX. They have forged aluminum control arms. Hyundai was cost cutting
Hyundai/Kia/Genesis are the kings of cost cutting where 99% of consumers don't know/care and pumping them into where they do, which is why those brands are always so competitive from a feature/price cost ratio.
