Can you blame them? Why go after the old and stubborn when you can capture the next generation that doesn't hold the same loyalties to the Germans or lexus.
What I would point to in any discussion about the GV80 and a comparably equipped BMW X5 is the stellar reliability of Hyundai / Genesis, their ten year warranty, and the absolute *hosing* you will get every time you need to have virtually *anything* done on your BMW. (I'm surprised BMW hasn't started charging for putting air in the tires) Cost of ownership is a huge differential, and coupled with the fact that BMW has not been known for their bullet proof reliability of late, I think that there is a compelling argument to be made for the $10,000 cheaper Genesis. Especially when you take into consideration the fact that the value of both vehicles will plummet like rocks tossed from an airplane the minute you drive them off the lot.
The 10 year warranty can be misleading, it only comes with the top level trim, otherwise It's a $3,500 option on all the lower trims. Tho i was able to get the 10yr warranty on my 2020 kia Sorento Sv6 for 500 bucks
Your right for most of it but Hyundai and so on have been having transmission issues for long term, also that 10,000 dollar difference isn’t enough for the badge of a German brand
Isn’t maintenance covered on New BMWs for 3-4 years. This essentially covers most leases. Doesn’t matter that there is $10,000 delta in msrp when you go to lease and monthly payment is the same due to BMWs superior residuals. This is how most people shop for their X5s. You will find hardly anyone getting into a new BMW that’s planning to keep it 10 years.
@@byronnasem4110it must be incentive to buy their new luxury product, cuz I went to both Hyundai and Kia and the 10 year warranty only came with the top trim And like I said, I bought a 2020 kia, I had to pay 500 bucks when they were asking 3,500 for the optional 10yr warranty
At this price point they are no longer in the value game but the lack of dealer service to the likes of Lexus or Audi. They would have to provide much bigger market incentive to penetrate into the segment.
Psychology is always hilarious. People will buy MB, BMW, Audi and put up with the horrific quality and often extremely expensive running costs (except for BMW), yet would never consider this vehicle even though it has better quality, FREE maintenance for five years, FREE concierge service for every service, and so on. But this is the same mentality that will spend $120K on a Tesla Model X even though it was rated one of these most unreliable vehicles sold today.
Image, badge, marketing. Same reason moms are told more expensive less useful CUVs are cool and minivans Are not is the same reason this won’t sell and bmw, mb and Tesla will do better in sales numbers.
As someone in the market, the biggest thing I see against the gv80 is the back seat legroom. The q7 and especially the gle seem to be a lot bigger. This is more like the x5.
I’ll take this GV80 over a X5 any day. The new X5 is bland now especially the rear exterior 😒. And since I don’t race my SUV’s and don’t know anyone who does I think 🤔 I’ll be just fine. Great review as usual SAVAGEESE, 🥳HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳
I’ve test driven an 85k X5 2019. It was underwhelming. BMW has fallen behind in the recent years. MB right now leads the pack in the German SUV’s. The GLS is on another level. I sat in 2 recently, it’s truly head and shoulders above any SUV, including Land Rover.
I cant be any more satisfied with our purchase. I got the v6 AWD drivetrain for my wife. Ride quality is gloriously magnificent, does not lose to any other luxury brands in this category, feels as if I am riding through clouds instead of hard asphalt road. Inside cabin is simple and yet refined and elegant - I much prefer this over some other makers' cluttered panels. Lastly, I notice many people doing double takes of this car. I am mightily pleased with the design - those on the design team (interior as well as exterior), along with the chassis and drivetrain team definitely nailed this one. I am also looking to purchase gv70 for myself as I prefer smaller vehicle when it comes out.
@@jsfbay1 if I can into a GV70 sport for under 55K and it can get to 60 in under 5 seconds, thats a good buy based on percived quality on early videos.
@@AustinF516 I know this post was a month ago, but if you're interested in at least tinkering in the options that MAY come to North America, you can configure the 2021 GV70 on the Hyundai korean website IN ENGLISH and see - potentially - what the NA GV70 Sport 3.5T would look like with your preferences. I fell in love with so many things about the Genesis GV70 and it's not landing until late summer. Using a currency configurator, my GV70 came in over $60k but that's competing with my potential X3 M40i build and so it is less of a heartbreak. The difference will undoubtedly be the future leasing incentives, which BMW will always eclipse competitors. Aside from the G70, these Genesis cars lease terribly. I am considering purchasing the GV70 instead because I do believe in the value, overall reliability (plus better warranty) and then if needed to sell off at Year 3, it would not be an astronomical loss.
How do you know about the experience. Bet you haven’t even had a Kia/Hyundai, and they are having legal issues with starting their own dealership network.

The Genesis GV80 looks amazing! If I could afford a luxury SUV, this would be the one I’d get. Sadly, that’s not my life *cries in poor*. The issues with the dealerships is unsettling, but the concierge service sounds really nice. I’m really excited for your review of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, especially your thoughts the fake engine noise. You don’t like lack of engine noise in Teslas, but I don’t think fake engine noise is the solution.
As a G80 owner, I can tell you the "experience" sucks.... While you wait, you're in the "Chicken Bus" with the rest of the Hyundai owners. I really don't give a crap about mini golf or a cappuccino but a quiet, comfy chair & decent WiFi would be great.
The G80 Sport is such a good car I have driven it quite a bit and it really moves with that low end torque. People who power chip these or the Stingers and now the GV80 are really waking up a beast😁👍. Solid review you guy's did
i have a 2016 AMG GLC 43 that I don't like for it's harsh ride and the infotainment system and I've been thinking about eventually upgrading to a more luxury oriented SUV for my wife, which will be our long distance cruiser as well. I've had X5s, MLs and MDX in the past and I think this checks all the boxes. Only thing is the dealership experience but the value and features might just be enough to win me over.
I'm no engineer, but I don't feel that the use of stamped steel on many of the GV80's suspension parts is due strictly to cost cutting. With more of an off-road mission, I think they were going for more strength and durability, much in the same way that Toyota has stuck with their steel understructure on the Land Cruiser. If I were buying something like this and planned on keeping it for at least ten years, I think I'd prefer the steel.
@@stevee8318 I agree, but they build and sell them partially based upon their ability to go there if need be. And while you don't see it every day, there are people who absolutely flog their Land Cruisers and Range Rovers, both of which are rather pricey.
Hyundai/Kia/Genesis are the kings of cost cutting where 99% of consumers don't know/care and pumping them into where they do, which is why those brands are always so competitive from a feature/price cost ratio. They aren't shitboxes that fall apart mind you, but that is why they seem so much more competitive to the Japanese/German competitors in their respective brackets.
@@TheGreektrojan I've been driving the same 2007 Hyundai Sonata Limited that I purchased new for over thirteen years now, and it's been absolutely bullet-proof.
I agree with the reviewers, it’s a fantastic suv for $50-60k, but the subpar dealership and ownership experience, not to mention the lack of heritage and brand awareness, prohibits it from selling at the $70k price point no matter the features and options. Genesis has to crawl before it can walk.
this is probably the best "$ for $" in 2021. for $70k for top trim, it has more features than a GLE450 costing $80+k. If KIA Telluride after two years on the market still sells with ridiculous dealer market up close to $70k, Genesis GV80 is a homerun.
Great review.... By far the best one I have watched.... One of the issues that pushed me to buy one is the post sale costs. I have had Porches and BMW and I am not sure if I have ever had anmoil change for less than 500 USD. Please include maintenance cost in reviews.

People who wind up getting this vehicle are most definitely educated car shoppers who do a lot of research. A lot of people settle. This brand doesn’t really compromise unless you’re very into the brand name itself which most people don’t even know exists.
Genesis is trying and it shows, it will take time to break that loyalty people have with Mercedes and the Germans if they ever do. This might not be enough. It just has to be more and different. Unfortunately, the driving experience is usually the last thing on people's minds at that price, people focus on all the features and comforts. That's another reason why cars today don't focus on a sporty feel, it is the comfort that sells. That and EPA.
100% agree. I love a drivers car. The drive comes first, not the bells and whistles. Cars used to have optional navigation screens.....oh how things have changed lol.
I can say that my dad went from a 2013 BMW X5 to a 2016 BMW 750i and he now has the Genesis GV80 v6. He likes the Genesis more than either BMW, partly due to reliability issues with both BMWs. I have also driven all three cars extensively and although the GV80 is down 75hp compared to the 750i it does not feel one bit slower. Genesis really outdid themselves with this vehicle.
i still dont find myself spending $65k in a genesis, your review is amazing and great comments on the quality and development of the car. Dealer experience is just not there for genesis yet.
Just got my 3.5T Prestige. Traded my 2018 X5 (my 3rd). As long as the ownership experience is good, I won't go back to BMW. The GV80 a better vehicle than my previous BMW's. No even close. Wife might get a G80 when her E class lease is up next year.
I usually don't care for SUVs, and I'm not in the market for one, but this is one of the best looking ones currently on sale, to my eyes. Thanks for showing the sound system data as well, looks pretty good, too. A differentiator on your channel, for sure. Just wish you'd done the same for the C8 Corvette.
I remember seeing one of these on the street when I was stationed in South Korea last year and I had to do a double take because I had no idea what it was and it’s a unique looking vehicle in a good way.
14:30 this is a great point that Jack & Mark bring up is the value prop or the $10k delta... The real winning move is to buy the GV80 at the 36 month trade in point. Genesis depreciate 50-60% (~55% avg) after 3 years so this will be low to mid $30k car with low mileage at year 3 with plenty of warranty remaining. The reliability and total cost of ownership will be much better than BMW. That is the winning move to make!
That's exactly why I buy E Class at that exact point. I get -50% off and can run the car for years without any issues. I have 100k miles on my E Class...looks like new...inside and out.
I’m hoping you’re right, however if the telluride and palisade taught us anything is that demand might drive the prices up. I was hoping to get a telluride for the discounts you speak of after lease is up. However used they’re only depreciating 10-20% at most and depending on trim level they’re not depreciating much at all compared to MSRP.
This is a big step up from my wife's RX350. I'll bet 90% of their sales mix will be 4 cylinder turbos. I'd love the turbo 6 but Genesis made a big mistake topping out over $70k. I don't think it'll be cross shopped much with the German competition, but will be with Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti shoppers.
@@bradleyscarreviews ok you got me there. I'll have to test drive to be a true believer. I think I represent the barrier to entry for Genesis to pull consumers away from Lexus and German brands.
Savagegeese, another top-notch review, with valuable information we don't see elsewhere. Mark, Love the new Genesis GV80 and your review, most everyone gives it great reviews. I know you'll be reviewing the new Acura MDX, we'd all love to see how these 2 match up. TIA
A Gv90 is on my Genesis wishlist ✨🔮 I'd also like them to make a coupe, but not just a g70 or g80 with two of the doors taken off. I think if they make a Genesis coupe it should have its own personal style and substance, not a clone or derivative of an existing model.
We don’t get the V6 in the UK, at the time of writing. There are two engines available, the 3.0 litre diesel and the 2.0 petrol, with just two trim levels. So we can spend £76,000 and just have the 2.0 litre but the luxury (top) trim seems generous and fitting. There’s zero Genesis dealer presence, we have the “boutiques” and the personal assistant set-up which removes any concern about poor dealer experiences but the assistants themselves need to be really ambassadorial in order to not remove any benefit of that.
The things I'm looking for as a buyer: how much will it cost to upkeep, will parts be readily available if something breaks, and how will it look 5 years down the road - will Genesis change the design again making this look outdated in just a couple of years? MB, Audi, BMW(minus the new grill) has kept the same style for decades... how does that affect depreciation. Just because I have more money to spend on a car doesn't mean I don't consider these items. If I am spending more money than say purchasing a Mazda CX-9, it better be worth it.
Help, for sure. Even the police mentioned that the car saved Tiger's life. The crumple zone, roll cage, and the cabin safety features all did their jobs.
Funny how the guys at ThrotellHouse made a vlog that the GV80 is a copycat of Bentley Bentayga...same guy designed both. They point out a lot of copycat. And I'm not complaining cause you cant get a GV80 for more than 1/2 the price. But man GV80 looks amazing.
I think you guys might be thinking about this a little wrong. Its not going to steal BMW/Mercedes owners. It will steal Acura, Lincoln, Volvo, Lexus and first time luxury buyers. My Mother, for example, is moving from a Kia Sportage SX to a Genesis GV70.
The dealership experience is true, I went to test drive a G80 sport and I was standing in the middle of the showroom for like 3mins and no one asked me anything. Then a guy finally approached me and said go to the Hyundai side -_-.
I could easily buy a Mercedes, BMW, or Audi, but I’m waiting for my GV70 sports prestige to arrive. It’s not a matter of price: I WANT the GV70 for look and features compared to the others. Regarding dealership experience, my wife owned a BMW for 5 years, and the BMW dealer was the most arrogant and difficult to deal with I’ve ever run into. That alone would eliminate BMW for me. Genesis is building their own showroom and service center near me separate from he Hyundai dealer.
If the buyer is looking for a 3rd row, what I've found in real life dealership experiences is the Bavarian lot starts with the X7. There have been no 3rd row X5s and our sales people tell us not to expect any. And there are precious few stripped down big dog Germans in the $75K class. Nearly all are at $85K ... thus making the $10K delta realistically moot. The distance up from $50 (let's say, for an MDX or 4 banging GV80) to $85 is massive. I mean, at the base point you are competing against the Palisade Calligraphy. Could I see those buyers bounce up $15K and get a 5.3 0-60 SUV? Sure. But none of them are moving up to an X7.
@@alexcoyg3281 I wouldn’t mistake it because the Bentley bentayga has bentleys signature two circle headlights, plus the front and rear look nothing like the Bentley.
Doesn't matter how good the car is if the dealers are going to deter a lot of potential Benz/BMW/Audi customers. It's like buying a $1200 iPhone from a corner grocery store. The product, service, dealer and aftermarket all have to be up to par.
No copycat? The theme of genesis is the Bentley proportions and image starting with the logo through grill ... with some splash of chrome ..instead of copying a classic European style they should have tried something unique like Korean neo techno luxury theme which they can claim as their heritage..starting with stylish logo ....what Lexus and Acura is doing
I'm really digging the genesis brand but like you guys said, its going to take big incentives or only a certain market to buy over Lexus, Audi etc. My wife and I keep buying Lexus Rx slightly used for good prices every few years paid in cash. They are great rides and are right in our budget every time.
A bass heavy system is better than one lacking it. Easier to take bass out than add/put it back in (my '19 WRX base is proof of this. My bass is set to - 7 (out of - 9) as the 6.5"starlink HU is bass heavy. Any higher bass on the eq, and the music becomes unlistenable)
The problem with the "X5 similarly equipped is $10K more delta" is that there are 1. more discounts on the X5; and 2. BMW leases way better than Genesis. So, in reality, it's a tossup on price. At that point, who's buying the Genesis?
Even with the 10k discount the BMW X5 will still be more expensive even if it’s fully loaded, and the gv80 will also have discounts soon and genesis has way better warranties
@@adilsagadiyev5090 No, it won't. Priced out on BMW's website and Genesis's website, a comparably equipped 40i BMW is $78,800, while a prestige GV80 is $71,350. So, it's actually less than $10K. Also, most luxury buyers lease so the extended warranty is useless. Plus, with the discount you'd get on the X5, you could buy an additional warranty and still be in the ballpark of the Genesis.
A genuine question for you guys. Is the GV80 currently sold in the UK? I currently drive an Audi Q7 2017 reg and I am love it but I am thinking of changing my car in a couple of months. Prior to the Audi I drove the Mercedes GL500 which was amazing. So having driven the Audi and Mercedes brands (before the GL500 I drove the R Class 350, so absolutely loyal to the Mercedes brand), I am looking for a new driving experience. I have never really liked BMW for an explicable reason so I’m not keen on trying it, so I am caught between the Volvo XC90 and the GV90 or GV80 but can’t seem to find any information about it being available in the UK. I’ll appreciate any information you can provide. By the way, I love your videos and I am definitely subscribing for sure.
Beware of the dealership, I like the Genesis, we bought one. But the dealers don't know how to sell luxury vehicles. they sold us additional 2 years service contracts and we did not need to buy it. I can go on and on... just look somewhere else...
Great styling. I would absolutely purchase if they offered a three row for sub 60k, but alas they only offer it on the advanced package. Not many luxury options available in the three row "midsize" SUV market
This looks like a more expensive trimmed Kia Sorento. The design of the front of the door casing and how it blends into the dash is identical, for instance. There is no doubt that it is more expensively built though.

The 10 year warranty can be misleading, it only comes with the top level trim, otherwise
It's a $3,500 option on all the lower trims.
Tho i was able to get the 10yr warranty on my 2020 kia Sorento Sv6 for 500 bucks
Your right for most of it but Hyundai and so on have been having transmission issues for long term, also that 10,000 dollar difference isn’t enough for the badge of a German brand
@@JustaPersonTryinToHuman365 That’s false, all genesis models regardless of trim have the 10 year 100,000 mile power train warranty my guy
@@byronnasem4110it must be incentive to buy their new luxury product, cuz I went to both Hyundai and Kia and the 10 year warranty only came with the top trim
And like I said, I bought a 2020 kia, I had to pay 500 bucks when they were asking 3,500 for the optional 10yr warranty
This is how I’m starting out my new year, watching SavageGeese 🔥😌
At this price point they are no longer in the value game but the lack of dealer service to the likes of Lexus or Audi. They would have to provide much bigger market incentive to penetrate into the segment.
Deep incentives.
Agree. So they are gonna make their own "Genesis" Dealership from this year. Hope, it works well
Psychology is always hilarious.
Same reason moms are told more expensive less useful CUVs are cool and minivans Are not is the same reason this won’t sell and bmw, mb and Tesla will do better in sales numbers.
because our economy and society is fueled not on how practical your choices are, but what choices enhance your self image and reassurance

@@ShaiyanHossain USA in a nutshell
As someone in the market, the biggest thing I see against the gv80 is the back seat legroom. The q7 and especially the gle seem to be a lot bigger. This is more like the x5.
I’ll take this GV80 over a X5 any day. The new X5 is bland now especially the rear exterior 😒. And since I don’t race my SUV’s and don’t know anyone who does I think 🤔 I’ll be just fine. Great review as usual SAVAGEESE, 🥳HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥳
I agree.

Great offering by Genesis! The GV70 sport will be the one im interested in!
Me too. GV70 performance should be impressive with the 3.5L TT V6. Apparently the GV80 performance numbers aren't that great :-(
@@jsfbay1 if I can into a GV70 sport for under 55K and it can get to 60 in under 5 seconds, thats a good buy based on percived quality on early videos.
@@apexconnexion great insight. I will definitely check that out!
Has Genesis leap frogged Lincoln, Buick, Cadillac, Audi, Jaguar, Infiniti, Lexus, and Acura? Bringing the fight to Mercedes and BMW?
The dealership experience is a sh*tshow. It’s so bad that I question my purchase of a Genesis.
How do you know about the experience. Bet you haven’t even had a Kia/Hyundai, and they are having legal issues with starting their own dealership network.
Well, you don't drive a dealership; you drive a car. Hopefully the car part of the experience has been good?
They didn't give you discount or what
@@bradleyscarreviews they said they bought a Genesis though
@@bradleyscarreviews ????????? You walk into a Hyundai dealer. They give you a shitty experience. It's common knowledge they have garbage dealers. Why is this so hard for you to believe.
I think you guys are some of the best car reviewers out there. You guys analytic approach to the mechanics and features is well done but your analysis into why the vehicle is a good buy or not is impeccable. Thanks
Solid review you guy's did
We're leasing a GLC and want something a half size bigger next time. This is really appealing, especially in the 4 cylinder 50k form.
Yup
i have a 2016 AMG GLC 43 that I don't like for it's harsh ride and the infotainment system and I've been thinking about eventually upgrading to a more luxury oriented SUV for my wife, which will be our long distance cruiser as well. I've had X5s, MLs and MDX in the past and I think this checks all the boxes. Only thing is the dealership experience but the value and features might just be enough to win me over.
@@johnlee5307 I think you should get her this!
No one is going to take a luxury crossover offroad
@@stevee8318 I agree, but they build and sell them partially based upon their ability to go there if need be. And while you don't see it every day, there are people who absolutely flog their Land Cruisers and Range Rovers, both of which are rather pricey.
Look at the baddest off road trucks, Raptor, G-wagon, TRX. They have forged aluminum control arms. Hyundai was cost cutting
Local dealer adds $2500+ markup. That is a total turn off. I won’t even open the door when I see that on the sticker.
this is probably the best "$ for $" in 2021. for $70k for top trim, it has more features than a GLE450 costing $80+k. If KIA Telluride after two years on the market still sells with ridiculous dealer market up close to $70k, Genesis GV80 is a homerun.
$70k you can get k900 or almost 2 tellurides
Know what the KIA dealers call the Telluride? A "Sell Your Ride"... A typical dealer supply only lasts 10 days.
A seriously balanced review. Makes the suv look compelling for consideration and a test drive.
Great review.... By far the best one I have watched.... One of the issues that pushed me to buy one is the post sale costs. I have had Porches and BMW and I am not sure if I have ever had anmoil change for less than 500 USD. Please include maintenance cost in reviews.
The SUV craze is as alive and well in South Korea,as it is in North America. Nearly 50% of new vehicles sold in the ROK last year were SUVs.
Excellent Luxury SUV!! The GV80 is the smart buy and the reliable vehicle.
Yep
Why would anyone buy this over an rx350 though. Rx is the better car for about the same price.
@@pnourani the RX definitely isn’t the better car. Doesn’t have as much luxury, not nearly as much tech, and not as much power by any means, and the genesis gv80 engine is dual and port injection which will make is just as reliable as the RX.
@@pnourani rx is based on the 2013 highlander, although I don't think it is a bad thing. I drove both the 40i and GV80 4 cylinder advance yesterday. The 6 cylinders I was supposed to drive were sold Saturday morning. I had driven the 6 prestige about a week ago already and was back for a second drive with my sons who wanted to see the GV80. They were crazy about the

People who wind up getting this vehicle are most definitely educated car shoppers who do a lot of research. A lot of people settle. This brand doesn’t really compromise unless you’re very into the brand name itself which most people don’t even know exists.
Plus the engine of this gv80 is dual injection!
I like that Genesis has finally found their style, as opposed to doing what they used to do and copying other manufacturers.
Looks great so sorry so we don't have it in Europe😕 But thx for great video👍

This will definitely put Lexus ,Mercedes, Audi,BMW, on notice Game Changer.
This car is so much cheaper in USA than here in my country.
You are so lucky guys.
It’s 93,000 $ in the Middle East for the highest trim level.
Genesis GV80- the SUV that saved the life of Tiger Woods. Wonder if this accident will help or hurt its sales?
Help, for sure. Even the police mentioned that the car saved Tiger's life. The crumple zone, roll cage, and the cabin safety features all did their jobs.
I really like how you guys deliver your message!
Saw the GV80 and G90 in a photoshoot in Beverly Hills in early 2020. Video doesn't do these vehicles justice how good (and fresh) they look.

That intro piano was... _provocative_

Yep, they should have hired him for TV commercials.

The problem with the "X5 similarly equipped is $10K more delta" is that there are 1. more discounts on the X5; and 2. BMW leases way better than Genesis. So, in reality, it's a tossup on price. At that point, who's buying the Genesis?
People who want to stand out, but want luxury. who don’t want an Infiniti or Mazda, but love the looks and the price point.
