I think for those of us entering the segment, the constant complaints you hear from people about repair costs is whats keeping me out of the bmw/mercedes/audi class of vehicles. The genesis is a reliable vehicle, like the lexus is. Not to the same extent, obviously, but this is the nicest car i can buy without fear of the car breaking down and costing me a small fortune. Yes leasing fixes the reliability problem, but you have to be on another level of wealthy to throw lease money away.
I remember watching one of your early reviews maybe within the first dozen reviews and I commented that you were too stiff and robotic but had amazing production quality yet no comedic entertainment. Now you've absolutely nailed it in all of you videos from the last year. I hope your channel keeps growing. Wonderful job
Good v! One thing that a lot of people miss about this car is that it's not a rede. It's just a refresh. They did do much of anything to the interior. The exterior looks awesome to me. I'm excited to see what they'd do with a full redesign. Also, the depreciation argument is going to begin going away. Kelly Blue Book says the Telluride/Palisade depreciation is only a hair greater than the Honda Pilot. I think we're approaching a turning point for the Korean brands.
As someone who appreciates more retro design cues as well as simplicity, reliability and ease of maintenance in vehicles that are solid and refined, I can't help but love this thing. I think it looks much better than a brand new BMW 7 Series. I even like the gauges, because they're clean and simple and have good contrast, unlike those shitty digital gauges most cars have these days.
I like simple cars too, which is why the Tacoma and 4Runner appeal to me. I currently drive a '19 Kia Optima S, which has more features than I use. Some new features I really love, such as side view, forward, and backup cameras, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. I really don't want to drive a car without those features ever again. Some things are nice to have and I would expect on an expensive car, such as heated/ventilated front and rear seats. Where cars start to impress me is in overall build quality, fit and finish, choice of materials. I expect power, quick throttle and brake responsiveness, and accurate steering with minimum dive or body roll. I also expect a quiet cabin. My Optima fails in several of those categories, but since I just paid it off, I'm willing to live with its imperfections while I save up for a better car, perhaps a Genesis.
Uh oh... 2021 g90 😆 Edit: although I personally like both center stacks 20/21. Everything genesis is very nice. I wud go get a g70 right now if the 3.3tt had a manual. And if i had the $$ of course ha!
I thought they had the best sound system of any luxury car I tested at the Auto Show this year in February. It blew me away! Nice luxury automobile from Genesis. I hope to see more bells and whistles engineered into their cars in the future at a great price. They know tech sells and they're doing a good job of that so far 👍!
Two things of note: 1) It's true that Genesis doesn't offer those "extra rear seat luxury options", but you won't be getting those on the other flagship sedans either unless you option them with the ultra-pricey add-ons and packages that take the vehicles well over $100K territory. Most of them in their base forms don't even come with the standard features of a Genesis G80 (i.e. adaptive cruise control), nevermind the 90. A huge advantage of the Genesis vehicles is that they have few option packages and are generally loaded out the factory- can't say the same about any of the German brands that nickel and dime stupid things like a heated steering wheel. 2) The depreciation of Genesis is wildly overstated. While they don't hold their values as well as Lexus (no luxury brand does), they're far better than the likes of any of the European brands and even Japanese brands such as Infiniti. People simply think they "depreciate more" than other brands because they don't realize that the MSRP of the vehicles was originally far cheaper than the competition to begin with. Know that both a G80 and Audi A6 from 3 years ago both selling for $22K now doesn't take into account that the G80 was around $42K originally while the Audi was over $60K (for a V6 trim- also standard on the base model G80) BEFORE options.
I have to say Genesis has killed it with the new design of their sedans and especially their SUV the GV80 which IMO next to Land Rover's is the best looking SUV on the market.
Mark. You are working too hard. That’s a lot of videos you have put up in just a few days. Chill the F out. Don’t burn yourself out. We will need you when we all start sneezing. You’re the cool hand across our fevered brow. Haven’t watch this video yet but I’m sure it’s gold.
The resale value for these is actually getting better I actually work at a dealership where we sell Genesis and we won't buy them at auction because they're too expensive. They typically go for high $30k and after having to certify them, we would have to retail them for around $40-43k. So resale values are right on par with the rest of the competitors. And realistically all vehicles in this class depreciate horribly. It's this class of vehicle.
If these are your editing skills, they are absolutely amazing.🤯 And for that reason and the fact that I love cars 🥰 I will be subscribing because I'm enjoying every video I click on. Cudos to you man👏🏾👏🏾
This is probably the best review I’ve seen of this car. It’s an interesting vehicle, but I’m still not sure what market they’re going after especially in a segment where badges really matter. Bargain luxury with poor resale value just doesn’t make sense to me. Hopefully, the next generation will really deliver true luxury - never underestimate Hyundai, they’ll definitely keep improving and Genesis will probably become the next Lexus-like success story.
As the owner of a G70, I would add one thing about Genesis as a luxury brand: they still have a LONG way to go in term of dealer experience. I really live my G70 and wanted it because it combined everything I wanted in a 4 door rwd car but trying to find one and buying it requested dedication. Dealers are atrocious and pull all the cheap tricks. It was a letdown after owning a BMW for many years
So, I totally thought he said, "Shut the f*** up about the pho!" and I couldn't stop laughing! As an Asian-American, I gave that pass. I literally dropped to the floor doubled over from laughing. I'm still laughing replaying that in my head even though I misheard it.
Great review. I'd keep in mind that Genesis is still building up its brand; is is a Lexus/Infity in its infancy. Design-wise, I think it is very elegant and some areas are just plain beautiful -- but that's only my subjective opinion. Having said that, buyers these days are more persuade-able and easily put off by brands in general, including luxury brands, by stupid shit and unnecessary/frivolous options or the lack thereof. Two examples I can vouche for are clients of mine who switched from BMW and Audi to Genesis because they figured that the reliability of Genesis' products has not only "evened-out" with their former premium brand vehicles but on some cases surpassed them. Also, repair costs was an issue as both of my clients dealt with astronomical repair bills when out of warranty, especially for the A8. As a matter of fact, the client who currently owns a 2016 G8 already put a deposit on a 2021 GV80 and his wife wants the just released G80. I think once the G90 goes through a full transition instead of a refresh, it'll be more up to par with its premium brand vehicles it aims to compete.
Even if price was no factor, I would buy the 90 before a Benz or BMW. Not going to lie, I do love Audi as well so this or a A8 would be a difficult decision. I own a Genesis 2015 which is now called the G80, and I fell in love with that car immediately. Been looking to trade in for quite a long time and still can't pull the trigger, that's how much I love that car. The first cars people look at when they have money is Benz, BMW to let other people know they have money. Sadly, that's exactly why I would NEVER buy a Benz or BMW. Not that I have money like that, it's just the point that I don't want put in that lane with THOSE PEOPLE! I know Benz and BMW are great vehicles, but the persona that comes from the people I much more relate to is a label i dont want to be connected with. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis gave me a car I wanted with the G80. When my friends first got in and asked what kind of car it was and I told them it's a Hyundai, they couldn't believe it. Many said they thought it was a Caddy, or Mercedes. I have ( associates who buy BMW and Mercedes, and when they get a new car and show up at a golf outing, you can see that personality come out of them that's a huge turn off. They act as if it's no big deal but cant shut the F up about every detail all the way down to the negotiating with the salesman. I hope to make more money in my life one day, but I'll NEVER be that person or will allow my wife to become
Honestly they could really capitalize on that if they wanted. Show a bunch of new money elites in a high rise office comparing textures of their business cards like Patrick Bateman, then show the smart dude that bought a better luxury car with better warranty for less.
why is it, that many automakers , make a pretty good looking vehicle and then DESTROY it with a F**KING mega mouth grill that consumes 75%+ of the front end of the car! The rest of this car looks pretty good and that grill is vomit inducing!
Don’t care about massagers, stupid lighting, more crap to maintain, this car is absolutely stunning , would buy it in a second. It impresses me, don’t give a hoot what others think.
I’ve owned an Audi and I wouldn’t take one if you gave it me. CONSTANT problems, and from what I hear from my BMW owning friends, they have similar issues. I drive a Stinger and LOVE it! I’m not ready for something as large as a G90, but I love the looks and the value, especially CPO’d. The Germans have gone overboard with menus, sub-menus and sub-sub-menus. It’s overkill, it’s complicated and frankly, I don’t want to fuck with it. I don’t WANT perfume, I want the smell of the car...period. I’m 55 yrs old and loved the Mercedes products from the 80’s & 90’s. Simple, elegant, stately. Maybe I’m just getting old, but sometimes less is more. Love to get your feedback

Few things. 1: it will struggle because of their dealership set up. 2: It’s a great deal. 3: It will also struggle because of perception. People have to be “excited” for the brand. That’s why there’s always some form of halo car or performance.
Yep just reinforcing my statement by saying that the genesis g80(in Australia were don't have any other model except the g80 3.8 ONLY-also it's THE BASE MODEL 3.8 not v8 5.0 either and it's just called genesis with OUT the g80 tag, now my point is the cost of that vehicle before taxes in Aus is $80k A.u.d- TOO EXPENSIVE !!!- (we have 50% luxury car tax for ANY vehicle over $45,500 as well), so people are saying on car forums that it should be no more than $50k aud maximum otherwise what's the point in buying it, everybody inside the car on the street will be perceived by others as a bunch of tightasses- and don't say that people buy cars for themselves not to impress others, because at any price point image is every- thing!!! ,except at the very, very entry level 3 cylinder vehicles that are the very basic of cars that are pretty much fazed out of the car market now ,e.g; daihatsus' little hatchbacks, that were designed in the early 60s'.
this is the equivalent to an old school Peugeot pepper mill. it does exactly what is supposed to do without overburden the driver. German cars are more like electric pepper mill, useless features that don't add any value in the day to day operation. its only marketing fluff, paying off JD Power and benchmark BS
Yeah Mate yes sir. That’s what I mean by that, there are things in the automotive industry currently that don’t add any value. I think Lexus and Kia are on the right path. It’s refreshing to see that they can build cars without insanely unreliable parts and technology. Yet they drive just fine .
How I think of this car is that it lets you dive into the flagship luxury executive segment coming from a full size sedan like the Chrysler 300 or the Toyota Avalon. In other words, for someone who has saved some money and wants to experience an executive luxury car, the Genesis G90 could be the first encounter.
I really don't see why anyone making that kind of money would buy anything other than the S-class, and before you camry driving fanboys start, Im talking about people with that kind of money, not people with 8k trynna find a deal on craigslist, It's simply the best car on the road.
Perhaps they have the notion that it's something that would make it unreliable over years. It seems like, Genesis wants this car to last atleast 10 years, hence the 10 year warranty on these things. But yes, seat massagers should've been thrown in as it's literally found in every other full size lux cars atleast as an option.

I remember watching one of your early reviews maybe within the first dozen reviews and I commented that you were too stiff and robotic but had amazing production quality yet no comedic entertainment. Now you've absolutely nailed it in all of you videos from the last year. I hope your channel keeps growing. Wonderful job

I rewatched that section like 5 times and I just now noticed it's flipped! haha

Uh oh... 2021 g90 😆
Edit: although I personally like both center stacks 20/21. Everything genesis is very nice. I wud go get a g70 right now if the 3.3tt had a manual. And if i had the $$ of course ha!
@Will Johnson Oh, I fully agree. I wouldn't buy this thing with anything else other than the naturally aspirated 5.0 V8.
it's like watching father in the front seat bantering with this 8 year old in the back
I stay chuckling at work as I watch your videos while I do "essential work" because of your snide commentary. Love it.
I really love the Genesis brand
I thought they had the best sound system of any luxury car I tested at the Auto Show this year in February. It blew me away!
Nice luxury automobile from Genesis. I hope to see more bells and whistles engineered into their cars in the future at a great price. They know tech sells and they're doing a good job of that so far 👍!
"it's the poor, sir" Although, that tractor cost more than this car lol
Yeah, but he can just drop straight cash on the car. But the poors farmer for that tractor? 20 year loan.
Two things of note:
1) It's true that Genesis doesn't offer those "extra rear seat luxury options", but you won't be getting those on the other flagship sedans either unless you option them with the ultra-pricey add-ons and packages that take the vehicles well over $100K territory.
Is that a Street Triple in the back? Are we gonna get bike reviews?
another well done video, thanks for sharing, your sense of humor never gets old

When you say it like that, he sounds like a Russian dyno tuner.

My favorite SG review in a long while.
I have to say Genesis has killed it with the new design of their sedans and especially their SUV the GV80 which IMO next to Land Rover's is the best looking SUV on the market.
The comedic touch is a must. Definitely separates you from the crowd.
The Burger Zone ™️
Tfw Turbowski is at the counter.
This is the original 1989 Lexus LS of today. Relatively simple compared to the competition, good value, and very competent at it's core mission.
Mark. You are working too hard. That’s a lot of videos you have put up in just a few days. Chill the F out. Don’t burn yourself out. We will need you when we all start sneezing. You’re the cool hand across our fevered brow. Haven’t watch this video yet but I’m sure it’s gold.
I disagree. Mr. Goose needs to continue hustling. Work harder.
2020's right now still high 40s to low 50s wiith low mileage
I love the wheels.
I don't. Thay look like used wheels from an old Jaguar.
Those are like those Spindle wheels! I have those on my Lincoln Mark Viii and, yes, they are annoying to clean 😂 they look good though
They’re awful
Have fun spending an hour cleaning each wheel if you like washing your own car.
I rather switch the wheels out for a 2019 model G90.
If these are your editing skills, they are absolutely amazing.🤯 And for that reason and the fact that I love cars 🥰 I will be subscribing because I'm enjoying every video I click on. Cudos to you man👏🏾👏🏾
Did turbowski quit the channel?
"You can move shit around back here." So good.
Wow she is a beaut... The G90 is really nice too. Premium content as always guys :)
These large grills need to stop.
Ghost Geist People complaining about large grills need to stop
I like them
Why? Along the lines of "because they're ugly and unneeded" is not a reason.
They're alright if done properly.
See BMW for an example of garbage design.
They look like the car hit a chain link fence.
I'm really excited for you to drive the 2021 G80 after seeing this. It looks like it will be a seriously impressive car!
The last time I was this early, BJ Boof spun his Korean SUV off the snow-packed road.
Your delivery especially with the explicit language is a work of art. Not to mention your life stories 😂😂🍻
nice bike in the backround!! thats what i got, a '16 street triple RX
Just got a Speed Triple myself! Goose has great taste.
It was a letdown after owning a BMW for many years
Isolation chamber you say?
No wonder Joe Rogan owns one.
I don't want, neither am I trying to impress anyone. I simply get what I like and I'm comfortable with it.

Hahahaha...so you're saying in 10 years...I can automatically have street cred?! Sweeeeeet.
At least they'll be easy to spot around the corner with those wheels. Great selling point for a customer service standpoint !
Yup, just like the 7 series.
I was waiting for Mr.Goose to test this vehicle.Thank you.I hope soon you could test GV80.
Great-looking car. Amazing to think about the difference of North Korea vs South Korea.
Such a shame.Same people, two different political systems.
Btw founder of Hyundai was from North Korea.
I own a 2015 Equus. Simply the best car ever made that nobody wanted. I love Hyundai. Hyundai means "don't be a snob" in Korean.
I think the K900 is even more underappreciated.
Honestly they could really capitalize on that if they wanted.
Show a bunch of new money elites in a high rise office comparing textures of their business cards like Patrick Bateman, then show the smart dude that bought a better luxury car with better warranty for less.
I’ve never been this tranquil during an intro like ever
why is it, that many automakers , make a pretty good looking vehicle and then DESTROY it with a F**KING mega mouth grill that consumes 75%+ of the front end of the car! The rest of this car looks pretty good and that grill is vomit inducing!
Thank you, as always, for the humor!!!! That plus the quality of the vids is why I subscribe!

I love that you guys really test the audio and provide the graphs. No one does that.

WTF is this girlfriend story, I was drinking coke and spat it out my nose XD
The rear looks like a lincoln
Song yong ho azera taillights to be sure
One of the most offensive looking front ends on any car in modern times. Put it next to an A8, S-Class, 7 series, or LS, and you'll see.
I like the skid plates on the front. Woun't get hung up on tree stumps like my last luxury car.

Few things. 1: it will struggle because of their dealership set up. 2: It’s a great deal. 3: It will also struggle because of perception. People have to be “excited” for the brand. That’s why there’s always some form of halo car or performance.
It's too expensive either way.
I love my Peugeot pepper mill I think it's nearly 40 years old and still grinding
My immediate first thought of that interior dash layout? 2013 GS350 dash.
Damn fine car inside and out. But seriously don't know why it doesn't have massagers.
Massagers are only worthwhile if they have a happy ending.
@@geethsan1567 Interesting take. I always thought the long warranty was a good selling point. At least from 2013, the Hyundai Equus had massaging seats and almost sure comes with the same warranty.
wow right on point! i said Genesis is awesome but they have to stop sharing parts ( obviously ) with Kia/Hyundai. As you said the secondary controls/gauges/touch screen. its not its own.
The new ones have different interior screens and center controls. However... I see them giving them to newer optimas and pallisades probably.
