CORRECTION- I state that there are three interior color choices. There are four, black, beige blue and brown. And fun fact- if you go to the Genesis.com website to configure a G90, the backdrop is the 4 Seasons hotel in Seattle.
@Coleen West Not really sure, it's a suburb east of Seattle. I was on a freelance shoot for Microsoft when I stumbled on the location and thought it was a great place for running footage. Hope I can find it again.
8:16, you said that there's dual zone climate controls in the back seats which will make it quad zone. A fully equipped g90 only come with tri zone. 1 climate zone in the rear seats.
Jared Shelton So you gave your unwanted opinion on GM and their cars...And? Lmdao. Nobody asked or cares what you think about GM. No one was even talking to you. I personally don’t care what you think and I’m sure neither GM or Cadillac gives a damn what you think about them either so I’m confused as to why you’re writing me to give your opinion when I did not care to ask.
I love it. I also believe those Emmys because I don't drive or have a car but I genuinely enjoy these reviews (for years!). They are entertaining and informative.
For the life of me, I can't understand why Tom doesn't have at least five times the number of subscribers. My favorite reviews with plenty of quality exterior and interior shots and good information.
I love the format of your reviews. Its just what we want to see and not 20 minutes of fiddling with the infotainment controls. You are as close to Brian Cooley as anybody I've seen, and thats a compliment. He left a void in the review world when he left. I love this new Genesis, it looks like nothing else on the road.
Yup, Brian's a good guy. While I produce videos, I seldom watch others because so many producers waste time repeating the same thing and trying to figure things out on the fly. It's a waste of my time. I do all the fiddling before I shoot because I don't want to waste yours.
I'd forgotten about Mr. Voelk for a few years (haven't bought a car in a bit). He is still a fun and informative car reviewer. I hope he keeps it up for a long time to come.

So impressed with the G90 and the upcoming G80. Elegant inside and out. It's like an affordable Bentley with an incredible warranty. I'm buying a Genesis very soon. Refreshingly different. It's a shame the antiquated State laws with the dealerships wouldn't allow Genesis to sell directly like Tesla. The good old boy system and paying the right politicians ensure an awful, in person dealership experience at Hyundai will always exist. It's a shame there can't be progress in that area
Base model V6 with RWD seems by far the best value for money. Nearly the same amount of torque as the V8, but at a much lower rpm. Very attractive luxury comfort offering!
Thx as always sir for a fine review. I wonder please will you ever be able to offer a review of the new 2020 C8 Corvette? I’d really appreciate your ‘take’. Regards and be well.
I guess I'm their target market - 72 years old and retired. Actually I had a 2017 G90 5.0 AWD which I traded in on a 2020 G90 5.0 AWD. It took me months to get mine (ordered Jan 2020 - took delivery late May 2020) but of course there a pandemic disrupting the world. Anyway as to the wheels - did not like them in pictures but now that I've had it awhile I am getting to like them. But even if I didn't I would still love the rest of the car. I think the 2020 is actually quieter than my 2017 was. Anyway I am the proud owner of a 2020 G90 5.0 AWD Ultimate in Uyuni White with the Beige/Havana interior. Love it and plan to replace it only when they redesign the G90 in three or 4 years. Great cars that need some advertising,
I'd buy this car with my imaginary money for the wheels alone. I think overall the car's styling is generally boring inside and out, but then those lattice-style wheels roll up outta of nowhere like a pair of 90s light up shoes. I love them so much 😍
It's interesting to see because that's more or less what happened with Lexus when it was introduced to the American market. Toyota basically developed a sedan that was either on par or in some ways exceeded the German cars of the time while undercutting them in price. In time, Lexus began to increase its price as it established itself as a "true" rival to the German brands. I wonder if Hyundai is trying to follow the same strategy, down to introducing a luxury sedan. But I think Tom is right. Maybe in this market, it would have been better to lead with a luxury SUV. In time though, once they cultivate their brand image, I think they will also raise their prices, both to increase profit but also as Tom said, as part of the message that this is an exclusive brand.
Luxury cars are in general mostly about image and brand recognition. They have always offered terrible value. Even more so nowadays, since modern mainstream cars are getting better and better. Personally, if I needed a large, luxurious sedan, I would buy something like a Kia K900 which comes without all the high-rolling image crap.
Great video as always! But I disagree that it won't impress people. In fact I think that if this would drive by an S Class, people won't even look twice at the S-Class. For the dealer experience, Genesis does it right in Canada (and very differently from the US). It has some boutique stores in big malls just to showcase the cars and aren't there to sell them (kind of like Tesla did in the days). Everything else is done online. If you want a testdrive, they'll come to you, same if you want to buy one. If you need a servicing, they will come and pick it up for you and leave you a loaner, regardless of where you are (home or work) and regardless of the car you have so even the cheapest G70 will receive the same treatment. Oh and you also get a 5 year free maintenance, valet services, etc. Genesis buyers seem to be quite different from the others. They're in the know. They know they have excellent products in their hands and for prices you'd be a fool not to consider because you're a badge snob lol. You should check out the new G80 which finally showcases the brand's next gen unique design and has no ressemblance whatsoever with Hyundai
David Wolf you could get a cheap sedan with better fuel economy. Most average cars today are just as comfortable as this car in the video. I think it’s just overpriced. You could buy a diesel truck for less money than this gas sedan.
I love the G90, and all the Genesis products for that matter. The Germans have taken tech to such a level that, as you point out, much of it won’t be used. The Mercedes tablet looks clunky & ungraceful. It’s insane! And who the hell needs a perfume dispenser in their car? BMW iDrive has too many sub menus. As far as Audi, I don’t like their styling direction (owned an ‘02 A4). I’m 55 and currently drive a Stinger Premium. Like the styling direction of Kia and Genesis. I get compliments on the Stinger frequently. Reliability is another plus for the South Koreans. Sometimes less is more. You did a great job reviewing the G90. I enjoyed it and look forward to more. Thanks!
I don't mind the physical gauges, but I think they should've done more to make them stand out more. Look at the RAM 1500 Laramie Longhorn's gauges for example. Granted, it's hard to justify when Sonata's and Palisade's have fully digital clusters now.
They developed a new 3D cluster with Continental which will be in the all new G80, remember, this is a mid cycle refresh, not an overhaul. I'm assuming next year's model will receive the same cluster from the G80.
Great video, thank you!! I like the giant amount of wood trim in the interior, very classy !!! Pretty cool looking car over all. I think the best view is the rear end, but the front is starting to grow on me.
Not a fan of the grill. To me, it looks like they put in a piece of expanded metal. If they varied the sizes of the openings and made it more interesting, it would help a lot. Love everything else about it.
This car is not for anyone looking at an upper tier German rival; ex BMWM760 or whatever. But anyone looking at the base Germans would be crazy to not at least take this for a spin. I did. And a comparable S Class is about 50K+ more than this. The Benz was great! But to me, not 50 grand better. The G90 is a sweet car!
Good video! I like tons of options the germans offer but can be a little much. Far as gas didn't buy sport sedan for mileage but mid twenties works for the best performance
Yup, been following Driven since the early 00s, I remember when I got my first cell phone back in ‘01-02 Verizon “online” forget the name of it now haha had a car review section by none other than Tom.
Great review as always and the awards are truly impressive. As for the vehicle: Looks like a nice car. But that grill...reminds me of back when Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki first tried to design"cruiser bikes" and came up with stylistic miscues like the Virago...just inept attempts at going for the class leader at the time (Harley). This grill, and the wheels!, are just feh in my estimation.
Those Emmys remind me of a story I heard about Shelley Winters that I hope is true. Late in her career she had to audition for a role for a casting director who had never heard of her. "Tell me about yourself," he said. She reached into her purse and pulled out an Oscar and plopped it on his desk. Then she pulled out her second Oscar and plopped it next to the first one. "Well, some people think I can act," she said.
I'd say the Lincoln Continental Reserve or Black Trim AWD is another alternative. Those 30 way adjustable massaging seats are great, but I'll wager those G90's seats are too! Alas, no V8 in the Lincoln, which is odd.
The Lincoln doesn't quite measure up to the Genesis IMHO but yeah, it could be thrown on the pile along with the Kia K900 I didn't mention. The new Lincolns, Aviator and Nautilus are quite nice though. Lovely interiors.
Boy, your Evil twin got luxury treatment on this one! This car is SERIOUS stuff. Too bad we don't get it in the Old world... Love that engine sound. 420hp, but... what's the weight of a big toy like this one? Thanks Tom!

Your reviews are so polished, I'd even politely encourage you to do some more long-format reviews. I don't think you need to be Alex on Autos-level of minutia but you're more than insightful enough that I think we'd watch for another 5 minutes and additional commercial break ($$$).
Personally, I think they're approaching the "too long" threshold right now. I like to hit the important stuff, throw in some fun facts and let you all get back to your day. I firmly believe these don't need to be 20 minutes long. That said, Alex is a great guy and works hard on events.
Thanks for the comparison with the previous model, Tom. I like the looks of the previous G60 a lot more. And, what's with this 'huge grille' trend? It's getting ridiculous. Kind of like fins on 1950's cars. Guess that would make the new Lexus RX the '59 Coupe DeVille of grilles :).
Badge superiority doesn't mean anything to me and the qualities of this G90 are great but i would take the LS500 here just because its refinement seems to be some classes above just like its price and in this class i guess that s all it matters. By the way i do find your effort..extraordinary always!
You know the depreciation will be terrible but then again, even the Germans face that. I bet if this needed engine work it'd be 1/3 the price of the equivalent work on a German car though. Very nice looking vehicle, definitely a bargain comparatively.
Estimating the impact of depreciation should take into account the $$$ paid in the first place. Saving thousands and thousands of dollars in the initial purchase more than compensates for greater depreciation years down the road.
I can't think of anything more boring. The podcast Emmy category was "Alternative Media" and it was my video look (some podcasts are video remember) at all of the easter eggs in the Pixar movie "Cars". I also got John Lassiter to sign a model Lightning McQueen out of that interview.
Excellent fun video, you should put your twin brother in the trunk next time😉. $70k plus is heavy for a hyundai but if you don't care much for the brand. Thank you for keep making videos on this dark times.
One thought; WOW, I do NOT want to EVER clean those wheels!!!! Geesh; wonderful car; only "complaint" would be the wheels and the "hidden" grill adaptive cruise "thingie"....I'm with you Tom...could be done better! As ALWAYS, You are the Man in Car Reviews!!! More Emmy's please.....
@@jerrywidner9755 Lol are you claying wheels now everytime you wash the car? I run a detailing business and have performed concourse levels of detailing on Supra's, E type Jags, various Ferrari's and more. Yeah you're right to each his own.
The G90's looks have certainly been improved, and I agree with you about that plastic piece in the center of the grille (which safety system is this for?). Couldn't they have done a better job with it? It looks so 'tacked on' (read: cheap). I am not a fan of the mammoth industrial-looking grille either. The openings are too large, and it has an overall low-rent look about it. Maybe it needs a gigantic Genesis wing logo mounted to it, or perhaps Swarovski crystals. It wouldn't look any worse. I hate to say that Lexus' giant grilles look better, but they do. And the wheels look like an attachment for a KitchenAid mixer to shred cheese or veggies. Okay, I quit.

How would you compare this to the new K900?

... Could be. One targets German lux brands and one targets Japanese. All depends on priorities.
The only thing the German rivals have going for them now is brand loyalty. This is clearly the better value.
It's interesting to see because that's more or less what happened with Lexus when it was introduced to the American market. Yikes! Throw a pair of eyes on the windshield and you have a new Pixar Cars character.
That is one beautiful neighborhood and a great looking car to match.
That G90 should be only ordered in the saddle leather interior. That’s the nicest interior setup.
Well deserved awards
I miss the toilet paper test. I love toilet paper. Never thought I say that.
How about a story on the east coast defender, east coast defender company?
I'm on the west coast
I'll take rear camera mirror on my CT6E over signaling cameras.
I think the pre-refresh version of the exterior looked better
I think its a cool car, i would get the awd v-8 version, but then if i did that, i would just go with an awd suv, even with a 6 cylinder.
Badge superiority doesn't mean anything to me and the qualities of this G90 are great but i would take the LS500 here just because its refinement seems to be some classes above just like its price and in this class i guess that s all it matters. By the way i do find your effort..extraordinary always!
I love it when you say you can have this and something else for the price of the Germans. Can you do G70 review soon? Thanks. Love those wheels
Already did the 70- ruclips.net/video/q41YcR38SXY/видео.html
You know the depreciation will be terrible but then again, even the Germans face that.
I bet if this needed engine work it'd be 1/3 the price of the equivalent work on a German car though. Very nice looking vehicle, definitely a bargain comparatively.
Estimating the impact of depreciation should take into account the $$$ paid in the first place. Saving thousands and thousands of dollars in the initial purchase more than compensates for greater depreciation years down the road.
I continue to be absolutely flabbergasted that there are no massage seats.
Or battery backed propulsion!
I think its an option. Was pretty sure the driver had it too
I didn't even know they gave Emmys out for podcasts...Can you do a video talking about all of them? I really wanna know the story behind each.
I can't think of anything more boring. The podcast Emmy category was "Alternative Media" and it was my video look (some podcasts are video remember) at all of the easter eggs in the Pixar movie "Cars". I also got John Lassiter to sign a model Lightning McQueen out of that interview.
Driven Car Reviews Interesting. Well I hope you get an Emmy for your car reviews!
Beautiful car.. but is your garage underground??
Excellent fun video, you should put your twin brother in the trunk next time😉. $70k plus is heavy for a hyundai but if you don't care much for the brand. Thank you for keep making videos on this dark times.
One thought; WOW, I do NOT want to EVER clean those wheels!!!! Geesh; wonderful car; only "complaint" would be the wheels and the "hidden" grill adaptive cruise "thingie"....I'm with you Tom...could be done better! As ALWAYS, You are the Man in Car Reviews!!! More Emmy's please.....
Get a brush... Wheel cleaning is just spray and agitate. Not hard.
@@d1sturb3d119 you obviously don't CLEAN like I do. YMMV. To each his own.
I don't think you mentioned what the rear screens are good for. Also looks like you can't get the v8 without those stupid rear screens.
