In 2018, while attending a car show I noticed a beautiful car in the area reserved for Rolls Royce/Bentley new models. I thought that it was a new Rolls model, but it turned out to be the new Genesis G90. I considered this model to be the nicest, understated example of a full-sized luxury car with the best body lines. The new car price at the time was in the low 70's which made this car a fantastic buy. In 2020, I found a beautiful, low mileage first year example and paid only $40K. My G90 has turned out to be the best, most reliable car that I have ever owned. True, understated elegance for a very reasonable price. By the way, my research indicates that this model in South Korean or Western Europe sells for a much higher price. It seems that Genesis wanted to penetrate the American market at any cost.

    • @moogle68

Do you remember what you saw the G90 going for in Asian/European markets? I'm curious how much of a discount we are getting for them to try for an invite to the 1%-ers club.
Honestly, as good of an argument as the G90 is for Genesis being more universally considered a luxury brand, the mass market Kia/Hyundai SUVs/Crossovers that they have been coming out with more recently look so fantastic compared to the competition that they are moving public perception of the brand up market on their own. It's a good sign for any brand when your newest models for consecutive years are so good looking and popular that people are _happy_ to pay $10-15k over sticker in order to ensure they get one. Now they would be smart to work on their reliability, because while they do offer the best warranty available on new cars, I've heard it's hard to actually _use_ the warranty when things happen, and looks will only get you so far if reliability is lacking.

@@moogle68 Several years ago when I checked on the Asia/European prices they were around $100,000. My car is now 7.5 years old with low mileage and I have had no mechanical problems at all, just routine maintenance.

We have been many many places in this car and is very very comfortable on long drives it does all I could ask for in a sedan. The 3.8 V6 is 333 hp a non turbo motor gets 30 mpg on the highway and does it in total comfort. She bought in 2019 for 15k and so far its has been trouble free. I’d buy another one again. I prefer non turbo and no EV.

They get all the depreciation of a normal luxury vehicle, with the added depreciation that people do not care about this badge at the moment. They pretty much told me too bad, so ya, never again. I felt like I was being treated by a Kia dealership from the early 2000s. The dealership "Genesis" Experience is not what it was cracked up to be. Too bad, the car was great other than the constant vibration (there was issues with trim pieces as well, needed replacing every half year). Hope other experiences people have are better. Genesis still doesn’t have much of a dealer network but they’re working on it I think. They’re rolling out standalone Genesis dealerships and forcing them to separate from Hyundai. It’ll take a couple years but I hope that makes a difference because if they can achieve a Mercedes dealership experience then it’ll be hard to keep saying “it’s just a Hyundai”

What the Maybach interior really makes special to me is that Titanic salon looking roof. The (real?) wood also looks like an actual gentlemans club, way more special than the tacky "forged" carbon and ambient light stuff you can also get as an option in most modern middle class vehicles...and they should have gone full electric with the Genesis, that V6 sounds extremely stressed and noisy compared to yesterdays mighty V12.

That carbon is the worst forgery I have ever seen, you can get stickers that look more like carbon, jeez Hyundai are cheap.

I wish Cadillac and Lincoln had done this with the "CT8" (that wasn't) and the Continental. The CT6 and the Continental were both very competitive, but they had their setbacks in execution that really limited their acceptance. Neither brand has recovered from the harm done from breaking into a market only to leave a short time thereafter.

@@memertmemes2586 I never get the answers, but it's always an electronic failure
It's usually the electronic shifter or hybrid component. Or that's the dash messages the car displays.

There will always be people who don't care about a brand's pedigree. They will choose lesser models and kid themselves (They think It's just as good). It takes year to develop a reputation (Mercedes, BMW, Porsche). You can't be a real luxury car just by copying luxury features and saying you are a luxury car. The day you can sell a Genesis for the same price successfully as the Maybach will be when they are regarding as the same. Don't believe that, ask Audi or Acura (Phaeton or the NSX)

I love the refreshed genesis I got to drive a g70 3.5t compared to my Audi a6 I felt the Audi interior was better the genesis had 360 camera and adaptive cruise my Audi does not but has the option for it the interior cabin space is smaller than the a6 but that’s because the g70 is coupe ish felt a lil more enclosed without a lot of wiggle room love the exterior of both they have beautiful lines and curves with. Somewhat aggressive design

The passenger seat slides forward. The plan for Genesis which has already started is it will completely be a different brand. At some point soon they only want it to be seen as Genesis, no Hyundai attached as much as a company can do it. Kind of like VW and Bentley. You know there are some VW touches but you'd be hard pressed to find them. I think their cheapest version is just under $60k.
