Having owned a lot of Mercs I could access the following myself. Is it the best ratio of price to reliability? Hell no. Is saying "mediocre" to "very poor" a stupid understatement? I can say yes. The worst Mercs ever built are, in my experience still slightly above Mediocre in terms of reliability. I think there is some sort of Trump conspirancy trash talk going on and in due time the "Made in America, is made with quality" kinda stuff will be everywhere. @@hiiambarney4489 I'm just saying because I like trying to look upon the reliability ratings of cars (often getting mixed reviews), I read these consumer reports and blah blah blah and they point otherwise. Had a Mercedes for 7 years. Went for test drive G90 last week and fell in love. I dont feel much of difference in overall quality. This car is definitely a handsome looking car that will give you a high class feel with much lower investment.
This new G90 design has grown on me so much since first seeing. Those guys at Genesis know what theyre doing. That Creaky Meadows tree comment was too funny! I feel special knowing my old 2013 Genesis uses this same engine but with even more power.
Yellow Circle why you trying to make people complaining about the grill too , because its one of designs that grow on people, to me right now its so classy and beautiful to it .
Genesis is the Lexus of the 2010s. They’re building quality, luxury vehicles that seriously rival the big German brands. The only thing holding them back is unfounded bias/stigma from people who refuse to actually drive a Genesis.
PRN_TestDrive and an identity. They look like generic version or other luxury cars. Infinity and Lexus made a name for themselves with originality and innovation. I don’t see that in Hyundai. Look at the grill on that thing! Looks like a bizzaro Audi!

Look, all of this is going to be opinion anyway, so there's no wrong answer, but if you look at the first few Lexus models, especially something like the 1999 LS 400 we featured, it's a carbon copy of the Mercedes S-Class. Even the succeeding LS 430 looked a lot like the S-Class from the outside. Most people are complaining now that the G20 BMW 3-Series stole the exterior design from the Lexus IS, so everyone's copying off each other.

@@Johnny24rs Have you seen the new 4-series concept? New king of ugly grills. I definitely agree though, that grill is an abomination. Otherwise the G90 seems like a great luxury car.
Just want to say that I love my Genesis G90 5.0 - I got it as a lease return (2019) for an absolute bargain at $57K CAD. I'm not going to lie - there are times when I miss my Camaro that was wrapped in Rolling Thunder color changing vinyl (which I traded towards the Genesis). Almost every time I took that car out, people would give me a thumbs up or do a double take. But after two Canadian winters and numerous spin outs on the 407, I decided to go the more practical route. The Genesis is best described as "stately" - it looks okay when parked by itself, but the car can only be appreciated in full when you see it on the road beside other cars. It's size and overall design language make you realize that the Genesis is something special, and anybody that actually sits inside of it is blown away by the quality. Sure it doesn't attract as much attention as a BMW or Mercedes, but I have had several people ask me if it was a Bentley. Plus, in the 10 months I have owned the car, there hasn't even been so much as a hiccup - the warranty and concierge service is out of this world. If you factor in that virtually nobody else has one (less than 1000 sold in Canada), you have a car that is truly unique and worth every penny. PS: I really hope the 2023 Genesis G90 comes to North America - that car is the best looking full sized sedan I have ever seen. If somebody offered me an S Class or a New G90, I would actually chose the latter despite the lack of brand recognition. It is just that good looking.
I saw this g90 in person couple days ago and it looks really nice. It's something new... everyone in my car at least looked at it for 10 sec and all said that looks nice. I have not been inside but outside looks very nice.
As a Jag owner, I love my car, I love the luxury features, but the constant maintenance headaches and problems the car has is what attracts me much more to the Genesis rather than a German rival. The better service and better warranty at a much lower price point plus running on 87 octane gas is a huge plus, its a cost saving reliable luxury car which you do not really find in terms of the running costs for other brands, the only thing is whether I can get over the lack of power in the Genesis, yeah 420 is plenty, but my supercharger really makes me happy...and the potential to have nearly 600hp versus a 420 hp genesis with less torque is a hard argument, so I guess the bigger question beyond brand reputation is faster and higher maintenance versus cheaper and less of a headache.

Me too!!! 2012 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec 5.0... I purchased it Dec. 2017 for $10,600 + Tax and Fees... I have driven the crap out of this car (55k miles in less than 2 years) and other than the Piston Rings (burns oil) for the 2012 5.0 being an issue the car has been rock solid and fun to drive... So much so my wife got a 2014 Hyundai Equus Ultimate... Both cars are amazing....
@suv tucson I purchased the car with 102,000 miles on it. It was burning oil when I got it. Didn't know it though. Scared the crap out of me. Then I read about the early Hyundai 5.0. They used German piston rings. I was going through a quart every 1000 miles. I use a slightly heavier oil during the summer 10w-40w and during the winter 5w-30w. Now I go through a quart every 1200-1500 miles. Not great but it is what it is. Hyundai switched to US made rings in September 2012 which resolved the issue. I checked $4000 to have them replaced. No car is perfect. A 5+ year old car with over 100k miles and that is my only real issue. I count myself lucky.
To elaborate further. In the last 2 years I have replace the coils and plugs. I am not a mechanic but did the work myself in 40 minutes. Cost me $270 using factory parts. My Alternator was going bad. Cost $310 to have it install here locally. Not at the dealer. They wanted $550, and that is it except for personal upgrades. - New 19 inch Black rims - $610 - Removed exhaust from secondary CATs back. Removed those CATs, removed resonator and replaced with X-pipe, and installed Mag-Flows. - $900.

Excellent and very fair review...nice job, guys. You touched on virtually everything relevant in comparing these two. One thing I do differ with you on, though...you opine that the Genesis cars lack an identity. Since they've pulled their top-tier design team together, I think they actually are creating a unique design language and positioning for their line. It has no legacy, because it's new, and it has necessarily overlap with other competitors. Considering the talent they have working on these, it seems clear that that is specifically their mission. While it is true that the Benz has an identifiable brand feel and aesthetic (some of which you associate with them just because they've been doing it for awhile), it seems in some ways a little dated to my eyes, or perhaps like it's trying a little too hard. Take, for example, the glossy dash with the bank of round a/c vents. I think the understated styling of the G90 is actually prettier in some respects, particularly the interior, and seems a little more Audi-modern than the Mercedes. Just my take. But, I really enjoyed hearing your view(s)...please keep up the fine work.
I even loved Hyundai Sonata 2013 compaired to other cars in it's class. It just gives you the feeling that you can go anywhere long distance day and night with the car and feel comfortable and relaxed like the car is with you.
What you guys didn't do, and what at least one of these cars is built for, is drive it up and down the autobahn at 250+ km/h for a couple of hours at a time, which is how S classes spend much of their time. Then you'd figure out more clearly where the extra cash that you payed for the Mercedes went. High speed stability, effortless way in which it can be driven at extreme speeds with zero stress, etc. is what makes German high end luxury sedans better than any other. Sure you can make a car that feels nice stationary or at low speeds, that has high quality materials in the interior, etc. It's not like Germany has special wood and special cows. But making a car that feels rock solid at high speeds and during extreme driving, is a bit more difficult. The autobahn shows you the difference between true luxury cars and knock offs built for price undercutting. Also note that the G90 is a brand new development, while the S class is in the last year of it's life cycle. New model is already being developed and spied on roads in Germany. So you're comparing the beginning of a generation to the end of a generation. Not to mention that everything about the Genesis that makes it feel as good as the German competitors has been COPIED from those same German competitors. All the materials, designs solutions, details, etc. have a clear "knock off" sense to them. Which is not surprising, considering how many ex-German car company engineers were employed by Kia/Hyundai in the last decade or so, which led to those companies going from making really crappy cars to really good ones overnight. That's what makes them lose their value, because these cars didn't get to the point they're at now through years and years of development and R&D, figuring out what works and what doesn't, solving engineering problems, etc. They got to this point by buying the competitor cars, taking them apart, and copying every part of them, with just enough changes to avoid copyright claims and patent breaches.
I would personally go for the genesis. In the luxury car realm, the Mercedes is just so common. The genesis is different than everything in its class and I can stand out from the rest. Badge snobs can say what they want but at least genesis owners won’t have to step foot in the dealership or service department. They get the 10year/100k mile warranty and genesis and Hyundai are cheaper to run in the long run.
I agree. The S class reminded me too much of an e class. The genesis is so unique in its design, inside and out. I would get the g90 over a new ls500 hands down.
Bro beleive me Genesis is crap. I tried buying the G70 and I did not like it. I ended up with the 2019 Lexus es350, unless you ride an audi, mercedez, lecus or a bmw and a genesis, don't make comments based on what these people are saying because you might actually end up buying a car you don't want. Beleive me I've been there and thank God I did not end up making a mistake
Brand snobbery : If a friend tells me he's got a MB, I'd be like "aww, so nice!". If a friend tells me he's got a Genesis, I'd like " OMG REALLY GIVE ME A RIDE, CAN I DRIVE IT?". We need more variety, newer dreams! Good video guys! (like always)
Yes, and so is Casio watches, but nobody in their right mind would think it's better then a Patek which is full mechanical and cost more then a S Class.

Is saying "mediocre" to "very poor" a stupid understatement? I can say yes. The worst Mercs ever built are, in my experience still slightly above Mediocre in terms of reliability.

I’m a big Hyundai, Kia, Genesis fan. Owner a 2012 Hyundai Genesis RSpec. Best car I’ve ever owned..and I’ve owner many BMW 3 Series
- New 19 inch Black rims - $610
- Removed exhaust from secondary CATs back.

"It's very brown in here... I feel like I'm inside of a tree" 😂😂🤣
I even loved Hyundai Sonata 2013 compaired to other cars in it's class.

Absolutely amazed by our G80 5.0. The warranty and bang for the buck. Nothing can touch it!
You talking like you drove the car high speed. Stop spreading lies
ARkong DRkong I don’t think it’s spreading lies because after all MB has access to the autobahn hence the reason why it’s priced that way.
